Season Tickets Arrive!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There are few things quite as exciting as those UPS packages that arrive in mid August, containing season tickets and media guides. Mine arrived today and I was able to quickly verify my seating assignment. (I moved slightly this season since my buddies and I have consolidated a few seats from our old block arrangement…)
The first thing that jumped out at me was how slick and nice the media guides are this year. Whoever put them together deserves a pat on the back. They are very well done and are a wealth of information packed into 208 pages of pure unadulterated Yellow Jacket history and tradition.
The tickets themselves look nice. Instead of player photos or images, they all feature pictures of past and present Georgia Tech coaches. The seven coaches that were chosen are Heisman, Alexander, Dodd, Rodgers, Curry, Ross, and Johnson.
At first I did a double take and thought to myself, “Man, they just backhanded Chan Gailey by leaving him out like that.” But then I realized that I didn’t see a George O’Leary ticket either.
Some people may argue that there were motives to leaving those two coaches off the tickets. I would argue that there simply wasn’t enough room for them when you look at the coaches that were chosen.
Heisman, Alexander, and Dodd were giants at Georgia Tech and heroic figures to Jacket fans.
Pepper Rodgers (Class of ‘55) and Bill Curry (Class of ‘65) both played football at Georgia Tech before coaching here. They are legacies regardless of their records.
Bobby Ross won the National Title at Tech in 1990 and is a no brainer to grace a ticket.
That leaves one ticket…for the new head coach…Paul Johnson.
In just under two weeks we get our first peek at what could be another legacy in the making. Is it too premature to hope that one day we’ll mention Paul Johnson in the same sentence with Heisman, Alexander, and Dodd? Maybe it is…but its still fun to dream!
Go Jackets!

Congratulations on you tix, can’t wait to get mine! As you mentioned in your last blog Chris - always a few butt sniffers in the Jackets yard! Grammar is horrendous; has to be the same loser.

Last year when they honored Ross at halftime for the NC they had him and his family sitting in the upper East stands above me! I didn’t realize it until we saw him walking up the stairs following the halftime presentation. I know he and the administration were at odds a little when he left, but give the man a skybox…he won the national championship for goodness sakes!!!

It felt like Christmas this morning when I saw that big brown truck roll up! My ten yard line tickets cost $800 (I could moved closer to mid field but I love my seats). I’m a die hard non-alumni that is proud of the fact that I don’t have to take out a second mortgage on my house (single wide if I were a UGAg non-alumni fan) to get tickets. It warms my heart to see our redneck rivals posting on our blogs. YOu know they are sweating and it’s not just because the el camino broke down and they can’t get to their job @ the Waffle House

From what I heard from a few folks at the game, Ross WANTED to sit with the regular folks, not be isolated with the VIP’s in a box.
Hey all African-American athletes. You want to play for a school that’s fanbase associates Atlanta with the “ghetto” because of the numbers of African-Americans in the city? UGA fans are quick to point that out about Atlanta. Go to UGA to entertain the bigots or come to GT for inclusion. If you can tote the rock, they’ll love you. If you can’t, you are considered ghetto.
Just look at the posts that UGA fans put on a GT blog if you need any further proof of a typical UGA fan’s bigotry.
THE FACTS ARE: Only about 7% of UGA’s enrollment is African American. UGA was ranked LAST in 2004 among flagship Universities in recruiting African-American students
Georgia Tech is the top producer of African American Engineers in the United States.
Yea, UGA fans. Keep calling us Ghetto. Eventually athletes are gonna figure out how bigoted you are and make a choice to attend the better school - Georgia Tech.

Its obvious that some of the UGA posters haven’t stepped on the GT campus any more than they’ve stepped on the UGA campus…which is…not at all!

I thought it was interesting to see an article in today’s paper with instructions for fans attending UGA’s fan day. Who needs instructions for fan day?
Then the more I thought about it I realized most of UGA’s fans have never actually seen the campus (much less the inside of a classroom) so maybe instructions are in order after all.

How about the Tech player charged with rape? Did he plead out?

You just stay the bigot that you - and many of your fellow mutts are - Dawgbite.
EVERYONE knows what you are really referring to when you refer to GT as Ghetto. You are referring to the large African American community in Atlanta. Your bigotry is made more pathetic by your trying to pass it off as saying you are only referring to our campus - which obviously you have never ventured onto.
African American athletes should take heed of the bigotry that flows out of your fanbase - and head 60 miles west to a more inclusive situation - Georgia Tech.
Coach Johnson is on the Miami tickets. I bet DawgBite and others in the UGA (sic) fanbase can really give us some bigoted zingers about the city of Miami.

Well, you’re doing your people proud then - not that I believe you one bit that you are black. Your bigotry shows through. I refuse to believe that anyone in the black community would slander GT for being in a majority black city like you have.
You stay classy, bigot.

Once again and this time I will say it slowly so you can understand without some kind of electronic device to do your thinking for you. People call your campus the ghetto because it is butt ugly. Looks kind of like Beiruit. Trash littering the streets everywhere you look. Unkept landscaping all over the place. Has nothing to do with race, people, etc. Your campus is just ugly and unattractive. Now maybe even a moron like you can understand jjacket. But if YOU want to try to turn it into something racial for your own purposes that is your prerogative. This brother enjoys seeing racebaiters like you look stupid.

Yes,it is my perogative. You are now merely excuse making for your racist comments. You are the racist. Nice way to try to flip it to me, but YOU know YOU are WRONG. You know WHAT YOU said.
You have evidently NEVER been on GT’s campus after reading your description of it. You just tke the typical UGA racist view of the city of Atlanta. (OHHH BLACK FOLKS, MUST BE THE GHETTO - is essentially what you are saying.) Very nice campus. Lots of trees. Plenty of well kept landscaping.
Now go away or join our century and start treating folks with respect instead of being a bigot. I will ALWAYS call your (bigoted) kind out, no matter how much excuse making or backpedaling you try to do

I see absolutely nothing racist about the above statement jjacket. It does appear to me that you made an attempt to go racial with it. Stick to football in here jjacket. And yes jjacket I too have seen parts of our campus that needs the grass cut and some sprucing up. You are the guilty party here jjacket.

jjacket Chris was rather polite with his rebuke but actually jjacket just STFU! You went racist. You give me the impression of somebody that is such a big sensitive puzzie that even words that apply to all races and nationalities offend your sensibilities. In other words you are one of those perpetual victims. If you can’t take the heat get the hell out of the kitchen little girl.

jjacket….dawg never said “black folks, must be the ghetto.” Those are your words for what YOU wanted to hear. Now, I am a UGA fan and I have never been on the GT campus; so I cannot speak about how the campus looks, but I do know that if you cross the street there is a homeless shelter and there are whites, blacks, and latins that congragate there that I would not want my child to associate with.

Boggs: Suggest you look up the word ‘legacy’ (Try ‘legend’, although that would be a stretch in this context). Road Scholar: How ironic is your name? UGA 2007-2008 - 2 Rhodes Scholars; GTU - not so many.

Got my tickets, very exciting. I like the looks of them with the different coaches…although it is a semi-slap in the face to ol’ CG.

UGArbage,
How is that a slap in the face to Gailey? In case you forgot, they guy didn’t win a single championship of any kind (and no you don’t get rings for winning the Coastal Division) and he didn’t beat his arch rival in 7 years. What did he do to get his picture on a ticket?

I’m glad that i’m a bulldog and not a ramblin’ wreck. Georgia is so much better…. anyone could tell…. so say GO GEORGIA, and Tech can Go to H@LL!!!!

Richard-
I understand why they didn’t put him on there, and I don’t think he should have been either. I never liked CG, but he did have some good #s for a tech coach (no losing season, win % was decent, # of bowl games). I know that he was the definition of mediocrity, and that we want better, so please do not respond about that b/c I agree that it was time for him to go.
I still believe that it is a slight slap in the face for him, even though he doesn’t deserve to be on a ticket, and im sure that he didn’t expect to be either. I suppose that I see it as a slap b/c of the timing. It is the year after he is gone, and of course we have to put CPJ on there b/c he is the new coach (and the freakin man) alongside all the other GT greats. Its like we are saying that we have another great coach now (as opposed to our crappy last coach). I hope and believe that CPJ will turn out to be one of the greats, but do you see how it can also be inferred as a shot towards CG? Either, way, I don’t care enough to argue, and I agree with you that he didn’t do anything to deserve a ticket spot.
I don’t want this to become a CG bash fest again. The man is gone, time to move on.
