Thank you, Calvin
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I have one word for Calvin Johnson: Thanks.
Thanks for showing me that me a player with unbelievable talent can be remarkably humble.
Thanks for putting your team first.
Thanks for being a hero to my little boys (thanks for giving them five on Yellow Jacket Alley).
Thanks for saying that you will complete your degree. I believe you will.
Thanks for the school records: 2,927 yards receiving, 28 touchdowns receptions, 13 100-yard games, to name a few.
A lot of people will remember Calvin for “the catch” against NC State where he reaches back and makes the one-handed grab. This year’s games against Virginia and VaTech were memorable. Maybe his best all-around game was his last against WVU, but I’ll never forget his breakout game against Clemson as a freshman.
And that the thing: There are so many great plays it’s hard to remember them all. Good luck, Calvin. You’re a class act and a great ambassador of Georgia Tech.

Yes thank you CJ! You are an awesome player and a great person. We will never forget you on the Flatts and you will definitely be missed. I will follow you no matter where you end up and you are sure to be a superstar! It was fun to watch you on Saturdays and I wish you much success for your future. Definitely one of the best to ever play at GT! I’ve never personally encountered a person so humble about their God-given talent. Thanks for that humble thanks and a shy laugh when I told you to go kick VT’s butt and you did! Congrats CJ! You’re awesome!

“Ball from under center, sets, throws, Johnson’s there… It is … CAUGHT! Touchdown! Calvin Johnson! SON OF A GUN! He has ABSOLUTELY lived up to the legendary billing! And with 11 seconds left… Georgia Tech has taken the lead! ARE YOU SERIOUS? Reggie Ball took 3 steps, looped it. AND THE LEGEND IS BORN! CALVIN JOHNSON! Holy smokes!”

I only wish that I could shake his hand, look him in the eye and say a personal “thank you.” Players like that come around all too rarely and VERY rarely to Georgia Tech. It was a joy to watch him play. He deserves the praise and admiration for what he’s done for the Tech program. He deserves every buck he gets from the NFL. The only drawback is that the NFL (a.k.a. Thug Central) doesn’t deserve him.
Thank you Calvin.

Not to mention the game saving TD catch vs. Clemson with 11 seconds left that gave Tech a 28-24 lead. I will NEVER forget where I was on that play.
That game ties the Texas-USC game last year for the best game I’ve ever seen. Probably even a little better.

Money is money and Life is life. Go for 1 and LIVE the other. Remember D. Pollack #47 @ UGA. His money and pretty wife will last only so long but if he got that PAPER it will last a lifetime. You don’t owe me or any TECH fan a thing. U only owe your Mother and Father. Best of Luck on your life. Keep u’r head out of the clouds and u’r DIC!K out of the TRASH and U will B O.K.

Yeah, thanks Calvin. I don’t think GT has had a first player picked (draft) in my lifetime. Too bad you couldn’t have broken a lot of records, but we know what your achilles hill was.

Calvin thanks again for the great memories and the class you brought to our organization. You may be the best we have ever had before your career is over. I have a basketball signed by the Finals Team and a Football signed by you! They are prized possesions and I will never let them go. Take the money, you have earned it. I also hear Tiger Woods wife has a twin sister, maybe you call him next?

Calvin, I double the thank you for showing that a great reciever can also be a great person. You have made me be glad to be a Tech fan I will forever be glad to see you on a football field and point out that you were at Tech. Thank you for three great years and may God bless you with the ability to continue growing at the next level.
Can’t wait to see you inducted in the Hall of Fame.

Great Tech playing career. Thanks for putting up with this coaching staff and hopefully they have learned somethign along with way. Good decision to go pro, as one has to take an opportunity and seize it if they are in a position to do that. Half the battle is seeing there is an opportunity. That is what is great about good educations like Tech. One learns how to think not just go through the motions. But the big diversions lay ahead in the NFL. Please don’t let some of those guys ruin the Calvin Johnson that Tech fans have come to watch and know. Show these preaddonas there is another way of being an NFL player and it’s much better. Just be yourself.

Calvin you are one of the best players that has ever worn a Tech jersey. You were an absolute joy to watch on that field. I always said, “get it within 5 yards of Calvin and he’ll catch it. Don’t worry”. I was at Clemson when you had your “coming out” party. I will NEVER forget that game. You are a class act and your parents raised you right. Good luck in the Pros. I know I’ll be following you. You are worth every penny the NFL offers you, plus some. Thanks for the memories and GOOD LUCK!!

Nothing left to say but thanks!
I hope that the Falcons end up with you. Vick needs a wide reciever to throw to other than Lilie.

Thanks CJ for leaving! Congrats on a great career at Tech. We probably couldn’t handle you if played with a real QB.
Look forward to seeing you play in Detroit next season. They desparately need a QB so look for them to draft you @ the #2 postion if the Raiders don’t get you at #1.

Hey gdawginkalamazoo, thanks for the compliment to CJ. For 3 years he could have had his way with any team on the schedule if he weren’t held back by others (not mentioning names). WVU gave him the ultimate compliment when they put 2 men on him at the 5 yard line and just flat said score on us some other way. GREAT CAREER CALVIN!!!

Harry has a good point. I’m a UGA alum and life-long fan with little regard for GT but Calvin is one of the best receivers I’ve ever seen. And I grew up watching Jerry Rice, John Stallworth and Steve Largent. He is also a true class act - something we can rarely say nowadays about a star athlete. What is also rare is I don’t think we need to worry about his values and personality changing. He obviously comes from a good family who will keep him grounded.
I honestly hope he ends up, somehow, in Atlanta but wherever he goes, I look forward to seeing him play catch with some comparable talent. Best of luck, Calvin.

As a dawg fan, I am glad that watching Calvin will occur on Sundays ( mostly ) in the future. A truly talented and classy player. Like many Dawg fans, I wish he had picked UGA. I hope that shows the respect we ( UGA fans ) have for him.

Calvin…after watching you play live at every home game for the past three years, you alone were worth the price of admission. i have never seen a talent such as yours. people compare you to Terrel Owens with Randy Moss type speed. well i have a feeling that people will start using your name first when it come to comparisons. you are a class act my friend and it was more than a pleasure watching you in the stands. during your last home game against Duke, i think you caught two touchdown passes. and i can remember the guy next to me saying “we sure are going to miss him”. all i could say was “we sure are”. this was a older white gentleman, and i could tell he was a life long fan, probably an alum. but just that moment made me realize how you brought people together. he and i had something in common, something that only Tech fans could appreciate for the past three years. and that was watching you play. and you never let us down Calvin, never. i wish you would have stayed around one more year to get another shot at UGA or even and ACC championship or beyond, but i cant help but to wish you the best in your pro career. and it really doesnt matter to me where you play in the pros because i will be a fan of that team becasue of you. for a moment i regret not waiting around a little longer after the games for an autograph, but i realize that i signed football or shabby piece of paper can be taken away, but the memories cant. so as you leave that it what i will always cherish, the memories..
Thanks Calvin

Wow on January 8 when you announced you were skipping your senior season && heading to the NFL I was bummed! :( Actually I think every Tech fan was! But I am extremely happy for you! You have such rare && amazing talent! Not only are you a amazing player but your an even more amazing person! Watching you dominate the field every Saturday…not even triple-coverage coverage stopping you…it was the highlight of my weekends! I know I will miss seeing you catch touchdown passes in Bobby Dodd Stadium! You are gonna be even more amazing in the NFL if that is even possible! It was about 1 month before the Gator Bowl && my mom told me we were dropping off something for you to sign…I was extremely excited! But when we came to pick up the football & you were standing there waiting for me w/ my football I almost cried! You were the nicest person I ever met…seriously! It was my dream to meet you in person && I never thought I would get the chance! I can’t wait to see how many records you break or make! You deserve this soo much! No matter where you go I will have your jersey…even if it is a team I really hate! Not only am I a Tech fan but a Calvin Johnson fan as well! I wish you the best of luck in life && the NFL! Hopefully like I told you I will be interviewing you one day!

I would like to say thank you for your years at GT, and wish you the best of luck. However, I recommend you finish what you start and complete your degree.
I was somewhat disappointed that you did not return for your senior year and complete your degree, because I believe one needs to finish what one starts, but to go 1 in the first round of the NFL draft is hard to pass up.
Beat of luck, but get back to school and finish that education. One day that degree from Georgia Tech will have much more importance than anything you accomplish in the NFL.
