7 reasons Jackets will win

VT has been a perennial power in the Big East/ACC for the last decade. During that time, they’ve been unyielding on defense, phenomenal on specials teams, have recruited well, and have turned Lane Stadium into a tough place to play.

That said, I think the Yellow Jackets roll on Saturday. Not roll on their back and play dead — that’s for canines — but roll up an impressive win against the Hokies.

Foolish? Irrational? Overly optimist? Maybe so, but at least let me present my case:

  1. Crowd noise will not be a factor. GT has experienced upperclassmen who have played in this type of environment.

  2. There’s speed everywhere on this team. I’ve said this all year. We fly to the ball on defense. We create space on offense. Wheeler, Hall, Robertson, the Johnson boys (Calvin, Michael, James), Rashaun Grant, Kenny Scott — they’re all speedsters. And I’m leaving out many more.

  3. Jon Tenuta is coaching our defense.

  4. Inexperience on offense for VT, particularly at QB. The Hokies have looked shaky against teams that you shouldn’t be shaky against.

  5. Calvin Johnson must be healthy or all bets are off (although we all saw what we can do with a gimpy leg against UVA).

  6. Special emphasis on special teams. GT coaches have worked diligently putting the right personnel and the right schemes on the field. We must play perfect here or my prediction will prove foolish.

  7. Reggie is playing well. He’s not racking up the statistics, but he’s playing good fundamental football with few mistakes. And he’s having fun again.

I’ll say GT 24-13.

I agree totally! except I will stick with my earlier prediction of 24-17. I also have a hunch that either Anoai or Richard will have a big game by giving us a couple of sacks. The key to this game is going to be keeping the momentum on our side and the crowd on the rear ends.

I can’t wait to see Reggie lower his shoulder and lay that smack talking Victor Harris on his A S S.

Good points. We have to be solid all over to pull it off. I really think we can do it. The team chemistry is important and the intangibles of the team have held us together. CJ will play. Our defense will attack the QB. Hopefully our special teams have gotten it together. Add it all up and you got a tight victory. We have what it takes to upset the Hokies. Let’s just hope we play our best! Go Jackets!

I think we have an excellent shot at an upset. we are faster on offense, if we can throw in some misdirection plays early, I think it will help to throw off their balance, and cause them not to be as aggressive. which will open up Calvin. Touchdown!!!!

You guys must be smoking crack! The offense is average at best. The defense is good, but there is no way that my Hokies go down to a average GT team.

In my time as a Tech fan, I have found that if three things happen, Tech usually wins:

  1. We can get at least one touchdown from either the defense or special teams.

  2. Be on the plus side of the turnover scale.

  3. At least one really big play on offense.

This could be said to be the keys to success for all teams, but I found it does work for Tech.

And as someone stated years ago, no matter what the record, Georgia Tech does one thing every year to make you proud. For us to be great, this has to multiply. I say it all starts tomorrow.

I will be there.

I can’t wait.

Georgia Tech 24, Virginia Tech 14.

There is no way we will be able to put up 20+ points.

  1. Gailey gets the lead, he will play not to lose.

  2. VT at home. Name a team in past 10 years besides Philip Rivers and co to put up big numbers

  3. VT…they always field good defense. Bud Foster is just as good at Tenuta.

But, if a GT team can win, it’s this year. 17-14 GT wins a low scoring game on it’s DEFENSE.

Andy, Great to see someone is optimistic about GT’s chances against VT. I suspect that Patrick Nix has been quietly creating the most potent offense GT has had in quite a while, and they will be up to the challenge. Jackets take care of business smartly. GT 28 - VT 10.

Andy You said that Reggie has not put up stats. Wow! you must not read the paper. He set school records last week against Virginia.

This is impressive Tech fans. I’m starting to think you guys have a good team this year. You guys are gonna give us all we can handle this year for sure. I really don’t mind you guys winning, as long as you lose the last game of the year. GO DAWGS!!!

Congrats Bugs. A win over a team that humilliated you last year. You turned the tables and the Hokies faces are redder than a Bulldawg jersey. As a member of the FANS OF CHAN, our group takes full credit for the victory. Without our support for your coach last year you would have run him off and be on the losing end in Blacksburg again. The FANS OF CHAN never gave up on CHAN, even when all of you did. You can thank us now.

Hey VTforever. .

”. .who needs forever anyway. . “

The month of ‘forever’ now appears to be over. If we’re ‘average’ what would that make Va Tech?

Awsome game and a awsome victory over a over confident cocky bunch of has beens. Beamer ball is over. Bring on the rest of the ACC it is time for a old fashioned smack down.
