Choice, defense will prevail

There’s a lot for both Tech and Notre Dame to prove this weekend.

Notre Dame wants to reinforce that their high preseason ranking is not a delusion and they’re deserving of national title talk. The defense has a chip on their shoulder after giving up plenty of yards and points last year. Quinn, Walker, Samardzija, and McKnight look to become the 2006 version of the four horsemen.

Tech wants to prove that they are equally deserving of title talk. The Tech defense looks to shut down a talented offense with three new starters in the secondary. Calvin Johnson wants the ball early and often despite being double- or triple-teamed. Reggie looks to begin his breakout season by making big plays, particularly through the air.

I expect our defensive front will be too much for the Irish, particularly in the second half. I expect to see a lot of pressure from our guys, with several quarterback sacks and turnovers. I also expect the Tech ground game to be fantastic. Several long drives and many, many carries by Tashard Choice will wear down the Irish D.

The best way to beat a good offense is to keep them off the field. Tech will execute this strategy flawlessly leaving Weis and company wishing they had more defensive help.

Final score: Tech 24, Irish 20

And the dream continues for the Techies. Your analysis is poor. If Tech bliztes every play, which they are sure to do they will get burnt. Why? Because ND runs a pro offense. What does that mean? It means they will have hot routes and checks for their WR’s and QB. They will run screens to Darius Walker(who said no to Tech). GT young secondary will get burnt over and over. Final score ND 34 Tech 17. Enjoy seeing your stadium filled with ND fans, almost like when UGA comes for its biannual beat down of the Jackets on the flats.

I agree with you mostly. I think it will be a great game. I expect to see some more complicated things happen on offense with Nix calling. I think Calvin will get some catches, but the running game will be the difference maker. I think they will show so much respect for Calvin that it will open the run game. I think that the guys in front on the defense will make up for the young secondary.

SGLC, I guess your liberal arts degree didn’t pay off. Biannual are events that happen twice a year, where biennial are events that happen every other year. So go make out with your sister and support a school that you couldn’t get into.

Saturday night Tech beat N.D. in a close game, 19-17. Upon awakening Sunday morning, non-Tech fans found they still could not spell or punctuate properly.

The best team won. ND “D” was better. #10 for ND was/is good!!

Where was Ball to Johnson in the second half? I think Chan must have been calling the plays??

But, RBall did his job.

All that talk about how bad ND defense was and they outplayed Tech’s. Of course the fact that Nix went ultraconservative in the second half probably didn’t help either. Where was CJ in the 2nd half?

Did you Bugs notice, that in the first half, Chan wasn’t wearing a headset and let Nix call the plays?

And that in the second half, he was wearing a headset and your team suddenly couldn’t move the ball or sustain a drive?

I love it! Chan is the Man! As long as he remains y’all’s coach, I am going to be his biggest fan EVER!

Oh yeah, Chan Gailey has no balls. He didn’t go for it on a 4th and 1 when a QB sneak would have given his team the opportunity to win. Instead he punted it, and then, when Notre Dame had the chance to either go for it or punt, Charlie Weiss, a man with extreme balls, went for it.

You play to win, not play not to lose. That’s why you lost. Chan Gailey and Greg Knapp must hang out a lot, because they both have no balls and can grind their respected offenses to a sudden halt with their lack of playcalling acumin.

You lost because Chan Gailey is your coach…

JUST LIKE I SAID YOU WOULD!

BirdDawg, kind of like what Richt does against Auburn and Florida, huh? Plays not to lose? Go back to your blog and enjoy your victory of that directional Kentucky team and figure out who will be the mutt’s QB. By the way, Tech and the mutts are both winless in D-1A in 2006! Nice job.

Ramblor, don’t worry about our QB situation because stafford is going to be a star. You need to worry about your sorry a* QB who cost you the game last night. The tech defense played sensational only to see the inconsistent loser reggie ball ruin a chance at an upset. What the hell is tech going to do at QB this season?

Here I am - Tech’s defense was as good as advertised, the game should have ended 20-10, ND really needs to find a kicker.

The real tale of the night was conditioning. Just like I posted on a previous blog regarding all the Tech injuries during preseason and two a day practices, it pointed to a lack of proper offseason conditioning. Notre Dame just ran the ball down Tech’s throat starting at the end of the second half and continuing on after half time.

No fumbles, no interceptions, no turnovers on either side. Reggie Ball did his job - the ND offense and offensive line was just too much for Tenuta to overcome. However Tech fans, I think that is the last time this year you will see ND held to 14 points.

Wrong on the spread, right on the victory… man those guys in Vegas know what they are doing don’t they? Go Irish.

Wow, you were pretty bold to predict we would score 24 points. In Chan’s 4 seasons as coach we’ve been able to score 24 or more points an average of 5 times a year, and most of those have been against teams like Wake, UCONN, Duke etc. Against any team ranked in at least the top 35 we can’t get more than 17. Chan took a team that averaged 31 points a game under O’Leary and has turned up into a chicken s team that can only hope to win big games 17-14. Get ready for another 7 win season of GaileyBall…It’s Chantastic.
