An update from Jonathan Dwyer

I spoke with Jonathan Dwyer Wednesday afternoon, after he had gone to the state Capitol to receive a resolution from the House and Senate commending him for winning the ACC player of the year award.

He offered some tidbits about what’s going on with the team in offseason conditioning.

1) The team is motivated to prove it isn’t a one-year fluke.

“We feed off that. We’ve got a lot of guys coming back, so we’ve got that to our advantage.”

2) Dwyer is in a workout group with, among others, safety Morgan Burnett, quarterback Josh Nesbitt, linebacker Brad Jefferson, B-back Anthony Allen and safety Dominique Reese.

“We try to motivate each other to work out. Sometimes you get tired after awhile working out. That’s what it’s all about - you try to get better, you try to push each other to the best of our abilities.”

3) While the first offseason strength and conditioning program under Paul Johnson was a shock to a lot of players, it’s gotten tougher this year.

“I think they’ve picked it up a notch. It’s more up pace. … We know we all have the same goal of getting better, of trying to be a national-caliber team and winning the ACC next year. Knowing that we have to work hard and do all that to get to that level, then that’s what we’re willing to do.”

4) Dwyer wants to improve his initial quickness.

“I know I have decent breakaway speed and whatnot, (but) I know that my first couple steps can be better. That’s what I’m working on now, to try to get quicker and be able to add more agility to my game.”

5) Dwyer met with Johnson and position coach Brian Bohannon to review some film from the season. Consistency of effort and blocking are two ways the coaches and Dwyer want him to get better, something we wrote about before the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

The goals are “to improve and try to be able to go every play. Hopefully this year, I’ll have Anthony Allen to help me out and other guys, so hopefully the backs will be a whole lot fresher, so everybody won’t be as beat up as much. … (The other goal is) working on blocking techniques and to be more consistent.”

Good to see all you DAWGS don’t have anything to keep you busy this off season. Here’s what your list of tasks for winter-spring might look like:

1) Find a new Basketball coach. 2) Find a new QB and RB & Watch the draft. 3) Practice barking at the local cats and small children. 4) Hang out at Walmart on Friday nights with random sporadic “monster truck” shows in the parking lot.
5) Teach your football recruits to read so they can get into school in time for the fall practices. 6) Continue to wait on that next National Championship….

I wonder if Mark Richt or the players considered that game to be a fluke? Yea, I’ll bet they were all saying that to eachother walking off the field. “Fluke man…fluke…do over coach..do over please”… Maybe you should go ask them if giving up 409 rushing yards is a “fluke”?

Definition: Fluke 1. an accidental advantage; stroke of good luck: He got the job by a fluke.
2. an accident or chance happening. 3. an accidentally successful stroke, as in billiards.

Did our players accidentally fall foward every play and get 409 yards or did they actually use athletic ability and effort to gain those yards. It was not a fluke when UGA beat Tech for 7 straight years. It’s not a fluke that your team lost this year. If it makes you feel better you can continue to say that. Enjoy the rest of the year thinking about the “Fluke”. The fact that you’re on this blog day in and day out talking about “fluke” is awesome and actually makes me feel great everytime i read it. The reason being - that makes me know you’re thinking about it. You’re thinking about Tech… still. 4 months later…you are still thinking about that game. You wouldn’t be on here otherwise. You’re still angry about it. You’re trying to make yourself feel better about it. You’re not on the UGA blog talking about offseason stuff. You’re on here and it makes you feel better about the loss to vindicate it as a fluke. Please continue to say it. It only makes us know you guys are thinking about us and that devastating loss.

We’re you on one knee as well in front of your tv while this was going on?

Matthew Stafford accidentally threw a pick six and Richard Samuel accidentally fumbled a kick off return deep in UGA territory. Take your pick on which accidental fluke was the difference in the game.

Did Matthew Stafford accidentally humiliate your pathetic secondary with over 400 yards passing? Did Georgia’s offense accidentally score more points than Georgia Tech’s offense (42-38)? Did Georgia’s offense accidentally gain more yards than the unstoppable triple option?

Excuses are for losers and that’s exactly what Georgia was in this year’s game, but it was a total FLUKE. No, winning 7 in a row is not a fluke. Winning your first game in 8 years IS a fluke. You nerds are all in to math right? Didn’t you take statistics?

If Tech fans didn’t get so carried away we wouldn’t have to have these discussions. You don’t own anyone. The tide has not turned. You have not arrived. It looks like Jonathan Dwyer understands this. Why can’t the fans?

Yes, I’m sure our secondary walked off the field feeling “hummiliated” after they WON. Moron. Our Secondary scored a TD and they were on the winning team. Not much doom and gloom there. UGA lost to their in state rival on their home turf to a bunch of freshmen and sophmores. seems like the hummiliation lies with the dawgs there.

I want to prove to all the GT fans that us UGA fans are not all homers by stating the following:

1) In my heart I know Dwyer is better than Moreno and I’m not afraid to admit it. At this point I would rate All-time RBs at GT and UGA as follows: #1 - Herschel Walker, #2 - Garrison Hearst, #3 - Jonathan Dwyer, #4 - Tied with Moreno and Tashard Choice.

2) I do not think Paul Oliver, who didn’t even make all-conference and was drafted in the 4th round of the NFL supplemental draft, shut down Calvin Johnson. Only Reggie Ball hurt Calvin Johnson. UGA fans look so hurt and pathetic when they go down this false path.

3) AJ Green will never be as good as Calvin Johnson. AJ Green is great but he is no Calvin. Again, UGA fans can’t understand and deal with the fact that Calvin went to GT.

I love my Dawgs but I so desire to have sincere opinions and believe the truth!

I am still questioning whether or not Paul Johnson and staff can recruit a top 10 RB out of highschool like Gailey did with Dwyer. And I am talking about a big back like Richard Samuels or Dwyer.

Question for Tech fans-

Why are you all constantly reminding Georgia fans of the score from this past year? It was a great game, and it’s fun to enjoy a victory, especially when you are the underdog. But we OWN you in the overall record. I didn’t post ridiculous chest-thumping blogs on the Orlando Sentinel site when we beat Florida in 2007 because they’ve owned us in recent years. It just wouldn’t make sense in the grand scheme of our rivalry.

That being said, how can you revel in a victory that is essentially meaningless? If you win every game for the next 21 years, then you can come back to this blog and bring your smack talk. Until that day comes, shut it.

For any UGA fan to come to a Tech blog and tell us to ‘shut it’ is just as lame as Tech fans repeating the score over and over. The mutt fans do too much trash talking to not take it like a man when they lose at home…when you talk trash ALL YEAR to us, you’re going to get an ear full when you lose. Show some spine and take it like a man.

Intelligent UGA fan, I agree with almost everything you said except for Dwyer, since he is only a Jr. next year.

The jury is still out on him, and hopefully he’ll be back for his Sr. year. I’m not saying he’s better than Herschel, just Garrison.

Hey JB

Your right i didnt know it was 8 in a row. i dont look up stats from over half a century ago. I was alive while wiped the floor with you jackets for 7 straight yrs. Good for you not being able to see something like that. it was in the 50s when yall did that, bet you could tell me one person on those teams. I dont know why you tech fans have this sense of entitlement you lost 4 games we lost 3 you spanked by lsu with no touchdowns. why dont yall win more in consecutive years before opening your mouths again. why dont you finish in the top 10 6 of the last 7 yrs like we did, otherwise shut your mouth

UGAY, only excuses i see is your fans like mike and yourself can’t seem but to make excuses for all your losses. Bragging rights come on a year to year basis you idiot. NEWSFLASH, 45-42!! DEAL WITH IT! Were you alive for that wipeout or i mean blackout in athens when bama steam rolled ya’lls a* all over the field, passing and running?? what about the florida thumping ugay?? you were alive then, right? we got beat in the peach, sure. you don’t see me making excuse after excuse! were you alive when florida thumped you 7 of the last 8 games? i love how uga fans rejoice by uf whom is a rival, wins a championship and somehow it makes you start bragging about the sec? who gives a sh**. you cant play with florida, and i bet you never win another sec crown again with meyer and saban around. hell, i bet kiffen starts pounding ya’lls a* soon for years to come! you point to recent years, well you just got beat didn’t you? until you come to realize that your second best in the state, and paper chumps, and get rid of that 8 game losing skid of your head, i would shut my mouth if i was a ugay fan!! 10 ,20,30 years, who cares! that losing streak is yours to claim, and that is what is priceless redneck! 8 straight, 45-52, beat you in hoops, getting ready to pull out the broom when baseball rolls around, its great to not be a ugay fan in 09! open your mouth when you got something that makes sense, otherwise, keep getting owned by uf, and enjoy that 2nd place feeling in the state, you may get used to it for awhile!! suck on 45-42!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey UGA we have a few more records that just the 8 in a row. in 1978 gt’s drew hill ran the 2nd half opening kick off 102 years for a touchdown. ok that broke a tech record but it also broke a couple of uga records too and l think those 2 records still stand after 30 years. UGA did get lucky and won that game 28-27

1)Herschel #2)Eddie Lee 3)Lavette 4)Choice 5)Moreno. Lots of other good ones but not so noteworthy. Let’s let Dwyer finish before he is judged. He most likely will jump into the top 5 somewhere. From what I’ve seen so far he is as good as any of these 5, although I don’t imagine he will have Hershel’s stats.

You Techies keep the comedy coming! Only thing that matters overall is who leads the series, how many wins you have the past 40+ years and especially how you’ve done since 1991. Other than two wins that would never have happened if replay existed (1998 and 1999), you’ve won TWO GAMES fairly since 1990. In 2000 and last season. And in case Dwyer doesn’t know, UGA players ar working out just as hard if not harder. You will lose again in 2009 right on Grant Field to a superior team and program. Then it’s off to Notre Dame for Paul Johnson!!

By Chuck Uga

January 29, 2009 8:16 PM | Link to this

Intelligent UGA Fan is neither.

Too bad a good blog is tainted by a damn liar. Jonathan Dwyer better than Knowshon?!! LMAO. And Garrison Hearst WON the Doak Walker Award. Dwyer has zero chance of that. Hearst was the second best RB ever to come out of Georgia, even better than George Rogers. Only a moron would not recognize that. And look for Richard Samuel to be as good if not better than Dwyer once he is healthy and playing regularly.

By Chuck Uga

January 29, 2009 8:24 PM | Link to this

And why do Techies come on here, realize they can’t boast about much of anything then run to the Florida-Georgia series as some sort of atonement for their shortcomings?!! BTW, that ain’t working anymore as UGA is 2-2 the past four games which is proof even that series is changing. UGA has the top winning percentage and overall won-loss record in the SEC for tha past ten+ seasons!

You are a complete dumba$$ if you think knowshon is a better back then dwyer. First of all if you know football at all you would know knowshon was the thrid best back during the tech/ga game and to this do do not understand what the hype is about knowshon. He always took himself out of games instead of grinding it out, (but that was to keep everyone fresh) bull$hit!! Dwyer is a bigger, stronger, and faster then knowshon and come next yr in the pros it will show. The last thing i would like to add is im a tech graduated and im just glad we have a coach that has put the rivalry back into what used to be good of fashion hate. The bottom line georgia and tech are both back in the national picture and the last sat in november are once again a joy.

Been on the pipe again Chucky?

Alert All Bloggers!! Chucky just announced that he sets the standards for everything that matters! Not NC’s, Not long streaks ETC,Etc. Just what he says matters & not before 1991. Replays? “What if” a frog had wings? The Doak Walker Award? LMAO.

Anyone in their right mind would take Dwyer over Knoshow. It’s a no brainer.

The only thing GA has over Tech is money & a bunch of fat chicks with round heels.

You are a complete dumba$$ if you think knowshon is a better back then dwyer. First of all “no show” was the 3rd best back during the tech ga game and if you look at the stats they are very similar all yr long. Dwyer is bigger, faster, and stronger and it will show in the next level. To be honest im don’t see what the hype is all about in knowshon. Everytime i see him run he has a gap the size of the grand canyon and yes in leaped one person. So what, every back has done that or just some run right through them aka Dwyer. I believe instead of always talking smack about why we won or it was lucky or defense stinks just be glad that once again the last sat in november will be alive with good of fashion hate.

UGA get your fact straight before you come on here. The record between the two teams is 59 Georgia wins, 39 Georgia Tech wins, and 5 ties. Georgia Tech’s longest winning streak, and the longest in the series, was eight games from 1949–1956. Georgia’s longest winning streak in the series was seven straight games from 1991-1997 and again from 2001-2007. Georgia Tech won the most recent game in the series on November 29, 2008, 45-42.

Some more facts: Georgia Tech holds 4 national titles and Georgia holds 2 national title for a total of 6 national titles. In their “50 Greatest College Football Programs of All Time”, Street & Smith ranked Georgia Tech at 16th, and Georgia at 18th.

You like that UGAY fans.

To all Tech Fans: Please lets not stoop to the level of UGA fans. Yea we won, but lets have some class. And as far as next year, who knows. It does make me happy to see JD getting fired up already, and if he does infact significantly improve from last year then this is going to be one heck of a year for the yellow jackets.

UGA fan. Just continue to take your bunch of 5 star recruits, top recruiting classes and under achieve. Keep living in the 1980 era, and watch FL and AL continuously win the SEC. Get your satifaction in beating a group of 3 or 4 star smart kids at Tech when you can, and that may even be a while now since you can’t hang with the FLs of the world. I can imagine that it is frustrating to have such high hopes each year and not live up to them. Just remember, 1980, 1990. I think 1990 is more recent last check. And cry split championship, that’s fine. But LSU split too with USC, but we all know that those rules don’t apply to the SEC. Have fun next season watching FL and AL kick your teeth in. And, TN will get better too before you are able to catch up. Man, now I can really see why you come here to a TECH blog to get pleasure. Nowhere else for you to go really. Maybe you hit the GA Southern blog too since you ‘own’ them too.

i just wish once in a gt uga argument, you wouldnt have to bring up other rival schools how elementary. i dont bring up your rival series of the weak acc. you just better be glad that you dont have to play a team like florida bc i know what they have done to us the last 20 yrs. imagine you had to play florida every year, look what we have done to you the last 20 i dont even want to think what a team like florida would do to you. stop bringing up the uga florida series just because you know we own yalls a**es.

Dear uga fans-

Please continue coming to GT blogs to get your noses rubbed in 45-42. You idiots can try and say whatever you like about the history of the series, but the fact is, we won. So by all means, continue to be pathetic and come to our blogs, to talk about what a fluke it is.

Do you think cmr has any endzone celebrations or blackouts scheduled for next year? He certainly is the gimmick coach of the decade isn’t he?

45-42. LMAO at you pathetic rednecks

As a side note, i guess the economy really is getting bad. Look at all of the white trash on our blogs during the day? Are you telling me that the recession is hurting the pizza delivery and lawn maintenance business as well? Tough times

45-42 STILL LMAO
