Awards, bowls and hedges
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia Tech is the ACC’s highest-ranked team (15th in the BCS), so the Jackets should collect some hardware this week.
All-ACC Teams will be announced today, followed by Coach and Rookie of the Year on Tuesday and Players of the Year on Wednesday.
For Coach of the Year, it likely comes down to CPJ, UNC’s Butch Davis and B.C.’s Jeff Jagodzinski. Tech and B.C. each was picked to finish fourth in its division.
For Offensive Player of the Year, it probably comes down to the ACC’s leading rusher, Jonathan Dwyer (1,328 yards, 13 TDs), and its leading receiver, Hakeem Nicks of UNC (60 catches, 1,005 yards, 9 TDs).
Which Jackets do you think deserve ACC honors?
On the bowl front, we might not know until Sunday because everything depends on the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
That bowl gets first pick of ACC teams (after the champion goes to the Orange) and might want Virginia Tech should it lose in Tampa.
The fact that Georgia Tech will be the highest-ranked team available is just one factor. Virginia Tech would be better for downtown hotels.
The Gator Bowl in Jacksonville picks next, followed by the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando.
CBS Sportsline projects Tech will play LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. (Also, Boston College to the Orange, FSU to the Gator, and Va. Tech to the Champs Sports).
Scout.com projects Tech will face Minnesota in the Champs Sports Bowl. (B.C. to the Orange, Va. Tech to the Chick-fil-A and FSU to the Gator).
ESPN’s Bruce Feldman and Mark Schlabach have Tech playing Nebraska in the Gator Bowl. Both have B.C. in the Orange, Va. Tech in the Chick-fil-A and FSU in the Champs Sports.
Which of those three bowls do you prefer? And which matchup do you like best: LSU, Minnesota or Nebraska?
Finally, a few readers have written to complain about the Tech players taking branches from the hedges in Sanford Stadium after the 45-42 win.
I had a chance to talk to junior center Dan Voss on Sunday, and here’s what he said:
“I don’t think taking part of those hedges — it’s the last home game, everything is going to grow back by the time they play again. I don’t think it’s disrespecting the field there. I don’t see us grabbing it as any sort of disrespect.
“Georgia played a great game. It wasn’t any slight at Georgia or the players and coaches. Everybody was so happy and wanted a memento of the game. Everybody grabbed themselves a little bit of history to keep.”

Complain about taking hedges? What sissies UGA fans are. Come on - I’d be more worried about giving up almost 100 points to their two main rivals (Tech and Florida) who run “high school offenses”.

If Georgia fans want to keep Tech players and fans from snatching the hedges, they simply need to play better and win the game.
I’ve been to a few Tech wins at Sanford Stadium and at each one, players, and some fans, take twigs from the boxwood hedges. Who can ever forget the picture of middle linebacker Ted Roof with his helmet on backwards with huge branches of hedge sticking out of the earholes?
Nothing is sweeter than whipping the dogs in Athens.

If I were still a player, I would want to go to Orlando and play a Big 10 school.
I would much prefer spending a few days in Orlando than staying in Atlanta.
The Gator would also be better than staying in Atlanta, but the FSU “homeboys” probably want the local team in Jacksonville.

Despite rocords and where we finished, it appears that the fan’s performance, not the team’s, will make the biggest difference in what bowl game we go to. In the Times Union story about the Gator Bowl this morning, Gator Bowl officials are listing Clemson above Tech in their list of choices. FSU appears to be the first choice, unless for some reason the Chik-fil-A bowl chooses FSU, which I don’t believe is likely. I don’t know what the Champs Bowl folks are expected to do, but if BC goes to the Orange, VT to the Chik-fil-A Bowl, and the Gator takes FSU, what are the chances that Champs will choose Clemson ahead of us? I think the best scenario is VT to the Orange, and Chik-fil-A choosing us. I would prefer a Gator bowl berth (45 minutes from the house), but really don’t want to get dissed for a 7-5 team.

I would say that I felt the most pride on Friday night watching the Bulldog pre-game show on channel 46. The difference in the way the Tech players spoke and acted compared to the way the Bulldog players spoke and acted, but by the end of the show I felt sad. All the money in college football has let/encouraged school presidents, administrators and coaches to b******* thier schools and athletic programs. The latitude (academically and behaviorally) given to some of the players at some of these schools is sad.
I am proud of the standards at our school and of the behavior of most of our players and staff, cogats Jackets, never forget, how you conduct yourself is more important than your won loss record.

Isn’t it the case that opposing teams quite frequently grab sprigs from the hedges after winning there? I think that happens a lot to UGA from other SEC schools.
I can see how tempting it would be to kids and don’t think it is worth making much of a fuss over.

I would prefer a rematch with LSU and the chance to make it 3-0 against the SEC. In this economy I would worry more about all Atlanta businesses getting money than just the hotels. We put in for tickets to Nashville because that is the town the family wanted to visit, but we will go anywhere in the eastern time zone except Miami. Went to last game against UM at the Old Orange Bowl and Miami is not a family fun town in my opinion. If Tech wants a better Bowl spend the money and get the tickets.

I’d love a rematch with Nebraska. I think we deserve better than LSU and it would be better to get our team out of town, not because there is anything wrong with the Peach Bowl (It will always be the Peach bowl to some), but it is better for the kids to get a trip away.

Don’t forget that the UGA fans defoliated the hedges after they beat Tennessee one year…better than a barrel of Roundup or a pack of goats…so bad they had to be dug up and replanted…
I’d like a rematch with LSU in the Peach Bowl. I’d rather play LSU than Ole Miss since we have Ole Miss on the sked in 2010 and 2011.

I have got some of that hedge growing wild in the edge of the woods behind my house. It grows so wild, that you have to be really agressive in cutting it back unless you want it to take over the back yard. Breaking off a little bit for a souvenir only helps the grounds crew keep the hedge under control.

I want to go to the Chick-fil-a bowl. The Chick-fil-a representatives were at the Miami and Georgia game. They should have been impressed. On its blog Chick-fil-a bowl indicated it does not like to take the loser of the Championship game because it wants a team coming off a win. Tech is the logical choice. If the Chick-fil-a bowl does pick Tech, I hope the fans will buy tickets big time and show this deserving team support. I guarantee you LSU fan will support their team.

Just wanted to say that regardless of what bowl we go to…it’s great to be a Yellow Jacket! I have been a Tech fan from birth. I am wearing all my Tech stuff this winter just simply out of pride and to rub it in the pups face. I now walk by the dawg faithful in the mall or wal-mart and see them look at my Tech attire and then look away or give me an eat sht and die look. HAHA…Payback is a btch! Revenge is best served cold! They better get ready because with CPJ there’s going to be a whole lot more crying on the pup side.

If I remember correctly, the worst damage inflicted on the hallowed hedges in Athens was by their own fans when UGA beat Tennessee several years ago, the infamous “hob-nailed boot” game. Fans rushed the field and climbed over the hedges to tear down the goal post. Some of the fences that are hidden by the hedges were also damaged and had to be replaced. The small branches a few Tech players took were nothing compared to the trampling of the hedges by their own fans that night. The hedges will grow back.
Wasn’t there a Florida-UGA game that UGA won several years back when players tore chunks of the field up as mememtos to take home? How about the large inflatable Buzz many years ago that someone took a knife to during the Tech-UGA game? Before UGA fans start complaining about other teams disrespecting their field, they should start looking at themselves and think about how the campus is trashed every home game by the fans leaving their tailgating trash all over the place? This past Saturday wasn’t particularly bad because the rain kept many tailgaters away, but I’ve been to several UGA home games in the past five years (not just Tech games either), where the campus is littered with trash almost everywhere you look. Respect your own campus and maybe your visiting fans will follow your lead.

Can we move this game to Athens every year ? That crowd seemed kind of wimpy on Saturday. If we were to do that I think it would be best to cut those weeds on the sidelines. I have heard that UGA players use those weeds to hide their sqeezins’ during the game.

Based on Leeman Bennett’s last comments, with the win over Georgia, I think the Chik-fil-a bowl will be gunning for Tech:
“A win against Georgia will give Tech a big boost in our minds, but first things first.”
Despite the tourist impact, etc, I would love to see Tech face LSU at the dome. After the win over UGA, the fan base is energized an I suspect we’ll see a good turnout of fans considering the dome is 2 miles away from campus. And this whole ACC vs. SEC story is stacked with drama. Love to see Tech pull out the V.

I agree that the players would probably like to travel, and FL is a great state to play football in during the winter months. But I would be o.k. with any of the 3 bowls. My frustration is with the opponents. I wish we could get a stronger opponent to play, instead of a 5th place team from one of these conferences. I really think we would match up well against an OK St., Mizzou, Oregon, Pittsburgh, etc. If we go to the Chick-Fil-A bowl, I will definitely attend.
Of course, I never want to see our guys have to go to the Blue Turf bowl again, but I wish we could meet Boise State (they are undefeated) in a more climate-friendly environment.
In regards to the awards, CPJ and Dwyer should be locks. Burnett should also be a lock.

Tech deserves better than crappy LSU! Against the SEC this year, I kinda feel like Tech has “been there, done that”. Is the ACC ever going to get out of their stupid contract with the “EAT MOR CHIKIN” Bowl that lets that bowl get first pick of non-BCS ACC teams, but gets fourth pick of non-BCS SEC teams?
I guess my first choice would be the Huskers in Gator Bowl, though remembering that even the Hokies lousy offense was able to put 35 points on Nebraska, I would expect the Jackets to be able to handle them, as well.

Georgia will have pictures of the Tech players with hedge branches on the bulletin board for motivation, so it works both ways. Who can forget the famous picture of Bill Curry and John Dewberry with arms around each other and holding a piece of the hedge after Tech broke the 6 game streak in 1984 (35-18). Some UGA fans are just pathetic. You should be more p** off that we ran for 409 yards on your hardcore SEC defense than taking a branch from your stupid hedges. Get used to it though because Nesbitt and Dwyer are sophmores this year. Roddy Jones, the guy that rushed for 214 yards and 2 TDs, is a Redshirt Freshmen. Ouch.
A team ranked 15 in the BCS deserves a better bowl than the Champs Sports Bowl. I would be happy with either the Gator or Peach Bowl.

Personally, I’d like to play a program that is both beatable and respectable. Minnesota is on the rise and could be motivated (although I don’t think they’ll win if we play them), but I don’t know how their tradition is. LSU and Nebraska bot have great, respectable traditions. LSU is having a down year, so we can win that one AND stay home! Nebraska is rebuilding, and beating them in a bowl game in Florida with a mobile quarterback isn’t real hard. Just ask Bobby Ross.

It angers me that these bowls are allowed to “pick” teams. This should be a reward and if the #2 “pick” doesn’t pick the next highest team, that is a shame and a slap in the face.
We need to remove these personal decisions and make it straight forward. Forget about filling hotel rooms, etc. These bowls are a reward for the players for a season well-played. Don’t leave it up to the business men wanting to make a few bucks.
Currently, Chick Fil A Bowl has the highest ACC pick after the BCS bowls. They should be required to take the highest available ACC team, period.
The Bowl in line is the Gator and they should also be required to take the highest available ACC team. And, that won’t be FSU regardless. The top three teams are VA Tech, BC, and GA Tech no matter how you look at it. FSU is not in the top 3 at all.
We must do this because it is fair and the right thing to do. We also must do this in order to move towards a real play off. We have to start making decisions on the field and take out the personal influences of voters and business men.

Those stupid hedges aren’t boxwood, they’re Chinese privet, a noxious, invasive weed that does more damage to Southern acreage than kudzu (look it up). You could cut them down with a chainsaw and sprinkle the stumps with Roundup, and they’d be the same size as they are now by next September.

Denizens, not to worry, GT will not under any scenarios be heading to the Champs Bowl. Forget what any prognosticators are saying. The Champs ain’t happening. GT deserves better and will get it. In fact, are you aware that GT is only 5 spots removed from being eligible for an at-large berth in the BCS. Seriously.
No, the Jackets will head to the Gator Bowl to face Nebraska IF BC beats VT. VT will then head to the Chicken Bowl. If VT wins then GT is in the Chicken Bowl against LSU. BC would then be passed over by both the Gator and Chicken and land at the Music City. FSU would go to the Gator and Clemson to the Champs.
The bowls you can rest assured have all figured this out and are awaiting the outcome of the ACC game. Regardless, GT will only go to the Gator or Chicken. Oh yeah, I will take the Gator.
Think about this: how happy do you think the Orange Bowl is with a possible BC vs. Cincy matchup. Wow, talk about a butt-ugly matchup no matter how much you spin it. The Fiesta ain’t real happy now that their dream matchup of Texas/USC won’t be happening. Oh and the Sugar. If Alabama loses as predicted to Florida then they get a lucrative Bama strolling in to the Dome to face who? Do they choose an undefeated Utah (possibly getting burned again after last year’s Hawaii debacle)or go with a power school like Ohio State. Bet they take OSU.
All the BCS has done is create a system that now has college football DI schools playing in an antiquated year-end merry go round of bowls. Major College football is the absolute hands-down worst sport for determining their end of year champion. For every person you find in favor of the BCS I will give you 100 that are against it. Until college football can see the light and mesh the bowl games with a playoff system I will never acknowledge that we have a true national champion. My guess is that Texas will have the last laugh.
Wonder how many voted for Obama because he was in favor of a playoff? Just kidding….kinda.

i know that the tech alumni and students are proud of their team and excited about what the future holds.
Second, i must give my vote to Paul Johnson for coach of the year - not just ACC but nationally. he has truly earned it. i have a lot of respect for him. although Saban has done an incredible job i think Johnson deserves it.
wish we could have gotten this one in athens because it is going to be that much tougher to get the next one in Bobby Dodd.

I have a comment about the Gator Bowl, it no longer has the luster it had 10-15 years ago. They didn’t support the ACC teams in recent years, and probably be a better fit for the SEC. Maybe the ACC could make a swap with the Outback Bowl for the Gator. It I was a team, I’d go to the Chic-Fil-A Bowl as the number 2. It’s been known for years that this bowl is the number 5 bowl amongst the bowls. They have continually been 3rd-4th in attendance and they have the best show on New Year Eve when every one is celebrating in the bars, and others are watching the only bowl on that night. The Champ bowl is a great place to go (Disney and other theme parks), and someday will be the number 3 ACC bowl. Who in there right mind wants to be Jacksonville on a cold foggy day in January.

Tech deserves a new year’s day bowl. the Peach Bowl at the very least. ( i know it is the chick-fil-a bowl but i refuse to call it that in honor of the Lions Club of Atlanta).
i bleed red and black but a man should get what he had earned. Tech is better than the Champs Sports Bowl. that is total crap if they play in the Champs.

This is a little off the subject but just something to think about:
The ACC and SEC played 10 times this year. The ACC won 6 of the 10.
The top 4 SEC schools were Alabama (1-0), Florida (2-0), Georgia (0-1), Mississippi (0-1). So the SEC big 4 went 3-2 against the ACC.
The top 4 ACC schools were VA. Tech (0-0), Boston College (0-0), Ga. Tech (2-0), and FSU (0-1). So the ACC big 4 went 2-1 against the SEC.
I am sure the ACC will also be higher rated when the next BCS conference standings come out. So you can make the argument if you are a SEC fan that the top 2 are clearly better than any team in the ACC. But I think you can easily make the argument that the ACC is a stronger overall conference and once you get beyond the Top 2, the ACC is definitely better.
ACC #3 Ga. Tech beat SEC #3 Georgia ACC #8 Wake Forest beat SEC #4 Mississippi
Thank you and good night.

All I can say about the bowl thing is, any bowl that passes over GT to take VT/BC loser, or FSU or Clemson or whoever, is just plain stupid.
Hmmm, let me take boring teams that have zero offense, are not even ranked or fired their coach mid-season over the TOP RANKED TEAM IN THE ACC who has one of the most exciting offenses in the country. If the Jackets get disrepected in their own backyard by the Eat Mor Chikin bowl, then expect sales of chicken sandwiches to decline sharply in the Atlanta area. I understand the desire to sell hotel rooms, but supporting the local population who put up with the traffic and headaches of these annual sporting events that don’t involve your team (including regular season kickoff games that try to upstage the opening game of the local team’s season) should be a bigger consideration. The venue after all was built with GA tax revenues, so they better get their sh!t straight and not go passing over the local team.
And the actual game on the field should count for something. Wouldn’t a GT-LSU matchup be much more compelling than VT-LSU? I mean, VT has zero offense and they got clobbered by LSU just last year, 48-7. GT is 2-0 versus SEC teams this season. Or a GT-Ole Miss matchup. Two first year coaches having excellent seasons with exciting offensive elements (the option based spread vs. the Wild Rebel).

I hate the Peach Bowl, we always play poorly there, and it seems someone always seems to ruin their knee, ala Godseyl, who was hampered his senoir year because of it. I believe that the kids regardless of what they say really don’t get to excited about giving up Christmas at home to stay and practice at Tech and play another game in Atlanta. They all want to go somewhere, like maybe warm florida, see the sights have some fun and then win a bowl game played in a real bowl atmosphere. No direspect to the PB, but for TECH its just not the same thing.

Dawg Fud- Thank you for your kind words-It has been 7 LONG years coming-I’m excited in what is taking place at the flats-CPJ has this team going in the right direction- it will be nice to get this back to good ole fashion hate games. I only hope that enough kids were watching on Saturday (RB’s). I think any running back would like the chance to play for CPJ-I love his emotions on the sidelines you can tell he loves the game-Also his sarcasm is classic. Good luck in your bowl game Dawg Fud-but I still have to say it——GO JACKETS AND THWG!!!

Again Denizens Larry Hartstein has it wrong. GT will NOT be going to the Champs Bowl. Forget the Champs Bowl it is not happening regardless of what happens in the ACC game.
Look at it like this. Regardless of the ACC game, GT will end up as the highest rated ACC team in the BCS heading into the bowls. What chance do you give that John Swofford of the ACC and Dan Rad will let Tech slip to a #4 selection. NONE! ZERO! ZIP! ZILCH! NADA! And Minnesota at that….Not one poll anywhere had even one voter extend even a vote for Minnesota. They are ranked somewhere over #40 in the nation. You can look it up.
The Gator is the best matchup for Tech as far as quality opponent. Nebraska is the highest ranked opponent of the possible matchups. Agreed 100% that the Chick/Peach is the highest stature bowl but until it becomes more significant to the SEC we will continue to get their #4-5 selection. That means LSU, that garnered a whopping 3 votes, will man that spot. The problem with the SEC is they have only 3 ranked schools (Ole Miss is in one top 25 and heading to the Cotton). The Peach has no choice but to take an LSU that travels well anywhere.
So the Catch 22 is do you want to go to a bowl with less luster and play a higher ranked opponent or a higher profile bowl(in some views) and play a lower ranked opponent in your home city. Always go with the higher ranked opponent which is why I think the Gator will take the GT/Nebraska matchup and thank it’s lucky stars it is getting such a high profile game.
Lastly, it was this same situation that presented itself in 1990 when the ACC had no tie-ins and GT (undefeated) had to go to the bowl which gave it the best chance to play a higher ranked opponent. The Citrus. Remember? The opponent, you guessed it…..NEBRASKA!

Since I live in Orlando and most of my family lives in Atlanta, I will be at any bowl in Atlanta, Jacskonville or Orlando. Just in case, I bought tickets to the ACC Championship game in Tampa that now I may or may not attend.
We need a win in the bowl to stop that losing streak at 3.

BEn Gilbert….you are correct fellow denizen. No doubt the Techsters want to leave town and can’t blame them. No disrespect to the Peach. None at all. They just can’t get a quality SEC opponent unless they talk with the Cotton about Ole Miss.
My two cents says that the Gator and Peach will have a conversation similar to this involving GT. VT will go to the Peach if they lose to BC. No doubt in my mind about that (they can’t go to the Gator as they have already played and beaten Nebraska this year at Nebraska). The Gator will guarantee the ACC & Tech that they will take GT vs. Nebraska regardless of the ACC champ game outcome, unless the SEC can swing Ole Miss into the Peach.
One last thing, you can bet your last dollar that Rad and Swofford are lobbying the bowls on Tech’s behalf with the above scenarios. Put the probability that Tech plays Nebraska in the Gator at 90%, Peach 10%, Champs 0%. Oh yeah and Peach Bowl if you want the ACC to really regard you as a top-tier bowl please give us a top tier opponent. Since the ACC is a higher ranked league this year why do you get the #2 selection of the ACC but the #4 selection of the SEC. Think about it. In the meantime the #15 BCS team is taking it’s game to the Gator against a higher ranked opponent.
Rock on….WWDD (what would Dodd do?)

So how many years on Coach Johnson’s contract? I would raise it to ten and take the chance.
Also. Regardless of which bowl the Jackets end up in I don’t want to hear any complaints from the players about the Bowl or the opponent. It seems that we’ve seen some of that in recent years and got whopped by inferior teams. I doubt that Coach Johnson will allow such foolishness.

Chick-fil-A Bowl, take GEORGIA Tech, not Blacksburg Tech (please, Mr. Cathey - I always eat at Chick-fil-A’s).
Don’t whine about clipped hedges, UGA fans. They’re privet hedge, aren’t they? You can’t kill that stuff, no matter what you do.
If you must whine, think of this: Roundball season is coming up, and Georgia Tech holds an insurmountable lead, all-time, in the Tech-Georgia series. It was that way before there ever was an ACC, and it has only gotten worse.

Dadgum, I just have to correct you about 1990. The ACC did have a tie-in to the Citrus, that it only could have gotten out of (opening the door for Tech to play CU in the Orange Bowl) if the ACC champ was ranked high enough (#2, if memory serves) when the bowl commitments were made. Tech didn’t achieve it’s #2 ranking until the very end of the season (a result of some losses above them), but was already committed to the Citrus bowl at that point. Plus, I think Nebraska lost their last game to Oklahoma, taking even more of the luster off of that matchup.
So, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Even back in 1990, Tech deserved a better bowl matchup than they got.

Dawg fans are hypocrites. They love to cry when opposing players and/or fans take a sprig of their hedges, but think nothing of doing it themselves.
I too remember the game just a couple of years ago when the dawg fans destroyed the hedges after a big win (might have been the Tenn win) getting a souvenir (that’s 80,000+ fans compared to, what 50-60 players). Their groundskeepers were genuinely worried the hedges might not survive and have to be replaced completely.
I would venture a guess there are not many UGA fans that have attended a few games that haven’t taken a sprig of the hedges at least once.

Larry,
Peach is all that matters to me as a fan. I think Tech is due to play in the Peach, they have not been there for 8 years, and it is time, VT just went 2 years ago, and lost. So send VT somewhere else.
Other teams you forget are UNC or Clemson, since so many teams finished at 4-4 in the conference, really a 4-4 team could go to the Peach or Gator, although it is likely that a team with a 9-3 should go to the Peach, especially since they are ranked, and should VT lose to BC, they would be unranked, and representing the ACC in the 2nd best bowl?
That is when Swofford has to step in and do what is best for the ACC, how do you let the loser of the ACCCG play in a top bowl when they are not ranked?

GeoffDawg, is that 1-7 going to be the constant refrain for the next 364 days? It’s cute that you like living in the past and all. You know, the past in which GT has more bowl wins than UGA, as well as more national championships (including the most recent one)? Is that the past in which you like to live? Or is your brain so caked with bong resin that you memory only goes back to 2001?

If not mistaken, after victories in Athens Tech players have grabbed some of the hedges for ages. As for the Bowl, Tech will be happy whereever it ends up. The key is if Tech can focus on getting the 10th victory which has to be record for a first year coach and his program at Tech. Still eating crow as after the first half it appeared the Dawgs were rolling to victory and with our third quarter season performance I decided to take care of some business only to come back in the 4th quarter and watch what had to be one of the best Tech/Ga. games from the Tech perspective I can remember. My hat is off to a great season all around by the program and it’s staff.

If you all think about it, the Chick-fila (Peach)Bowl is the best option for Tech! It will be seen by more people nationally than the Gator or Champs because of its time slot, and ESPN does a lot more than CBS to promote it. CBS is terrible in handling college football: terrible announcers, little to no replay! The Peach would pay us more, would be a sellout, and would provide much more exposure for national recruits! Also, it positions Tech to play in a season opening Dome game against an SEC team! Rumor among coaches is that Ole Miss is campaigning hard for the Peach vs. the Cotton for recruiting and alumni purposes!

The whole hedges defoliation debate is so humorous to me - but typical.
CMR has a character problem within his squad, thus their uninspired and undisciplined play.
He is the coach that has set the standard for poor behavior of his team both on and off the field.
You recruit petty criminals with no character and you get consistant run-ins with the law off the field.
If you do not instill discipline on the field, you get lack-of-class displays such as in Florida last year. Florida gave them a good beat-down for it too.
UGA has always appealed to the intellectually marginal athlete due to the, ah, less rigorous academic standards that Dooley was so gifted at perpetuating.
Remember Jan Kemp? Ha ha ha….
So, if you don’t want someone to get your goats (hedges), don’t let them know where they are….

If the mutts did not make such a big deal about their famed “hedges” then nobody would mess with them. Auburn has hedges around Pat Dye Field and you never see anyone taking pieces from there. Get rid of the “between the hedges” crap and nobody will mess with them.

I prefer playing a hot Nebraska team over a declining LSU and Minnesota. Beating MN brings no benefits and with ARK beating LSU there would be nothing to garner from a win over the Tigers. Nebraska, Bo Pellini, Big 12 match up would bring more attention to the program and provide a bigger bump going into 2009.

Also congrats tot he “nerds” for coming up with a formula to beat my beloved dogs——Gimmick offense+CPJ= 45-42…who cares how much the defense gave up it is how much the offense scores right? Also please don’t pick on Willie-he is our (Chan). Now that is some good coaching!! I love CPJ comment- I told the boys “we play for 60 minutes” never does he give up and I think that just keeps rubbing off on this team-I’ve said before and will repeat Tech is still not running 100% of the triple option offense- I’ve saw Navy 4 times now and they are running a much more complex offense right now- when it does get installed—-LOOK OUT! I really don’t care what bowl they go to although if they play at the Peach that would give me an excuse to fly home and see my dad as well-on another note not that I’m a fan but looking forward to Southern Cal putting a hurting on the PSU boys- maybe that will shut some of these folks up here as well- GO JACKETS AND THWG!!!

Truth be told, it hadn’t occurred to me to mention 1 and 7 more than once, but now that it seems to get under your skin, you should be prepared for a constant barrage. How about this - your first win without ineligible players in 18 years. How does that strike you? There are voters out there that weren’t alive the last time you won legitimately. Horticulture lesson: This past spring a section of one of our privet hedges in the front of the house died. I think I was a little over aggressive one day with the Round-Up sprayer. My wife was worried about the unsightly hole in one of our hedges. I told her, “don’t worry sweetheart, in a few months you’ll never know it”. Sure enough, by summer’s end it was just as full as the rest of them. Puppies, by next fall your hedges will be fine. Ask the folks over in the Ag Dept. That is, after all, your specialty…..

I believe D-Rad will consult CPJ on the teams desires, and will decide what’s best for GT and the team, and will lobby hard for whatever THAT is.
The big picture that’s barely been mentioned is the absolutely crappy bowl tie-ins that the ACC has. Another reason not to like Swofford… I won’t go through a line by line comparison, but puhlease, why do we (as a conference)continually have to suffer through crappy bowls? Even the Orange, our conference “premiere” BCS bowl, has the Big East champ as the opponent. Big whoop.

To Brent Cunningham: I have been a GT fan for as long as I can remember … Born and raised in Griffin, GA. I just wanted you to know that you were always my favorite player at Tech … I am 68 yrs. old now, but still remember you carrying ball. I read somewhere in a paper once, that trying to tackle you was like trying to catch a butterfly with two fingers. My son when he was nine years old had an old mustar
