To paraphrase the late, great announcer Jack Buck, do you believe what you just saw?

Down 28-12 at the half, Tech came out on fire, scoring three touchdowns in the first seven minutes.

Jonathan Dwyer went the distance on the first play from scrimmage. Roddy Jones dove for the pylon — and got it — on the next TD.

Tech converted both 2-point tries (pitch to Dwyer, Josh Nesbitt draw) and it was 28-28 with 8:11 left in the third.

After Michael Peterson ripped the ball loose on the kickoff return and Marcus Wright recovered, Dwyer scored again on the very first play.

Just like that it was 35-28 with 7:55 left.

The defense forced another punt.

Jones’ 62-yard run, on another perfect pitch by Nesbitt, put the Jackets in business again. Right tackle Austin Barrick (formerly a tight end) ran 11 yards on a lateral, and Scott Blair kicked a 28-yard field goal to make it 38-28.

Tech ran for 201 yards in the third quarter alone.

Knowshon Moreno’s TD run cut it to 38-35 early in the fourth.

Then Nesbitt had to leave with an injury; Jaybo Shaw replaced him. The Jackets got a huge first down when Shaw tossed to Jones for a 7-yard gain on 3rd and 4. Nesbitt returned after missing three plays. With Georgia’s defense needing a third-down stop, Jones scooted 54 yards along the right sideline for a crushing TD.

But Matthew Stafford answered with a TD pass — his fifth of the day — to A.J. Green. It was 45-42 with 4:04 left.

Jones turned in yet another big play, returning the kickoff to Tech’s 44. Tech ate the rest of the clock, never giving Stafford another shot.

Tech 45, Georgia 42.

While I do not agree that it will be a while before UGA defeats Tech again; I do agree that it is once again ‘a rivalry’.

This was a good day for us Georgia Bulldogs. It proved the two main flaws of our team this year: 1-Why do we start fast and fade. Because we are ALWAYS out coached. The other coaches make adjustments our coaches have no answer for. 2-We have a horrible defense. Begining with the coach, we will never challenge for the the national title with this defense.

The drought breakers are among the best. In 1984, Tech 35-18 in Athens, ending a six-game Georgia streak. Then a 3 point win in Athens in 1998, ending a seven-game streak, and then today in Athens. It’s fantastic when the big wins are in Athens.

First congrats to Tech, I know they will enjoy this win more than UGA would have. Second, we need a new defensive coordinator… I know we gave away two touchdowns on turnovers but 42 points should have won this game going away. The D has been gashes this year and I don’t care that we had 7 players out with season ending injuries on D alone, this has been either an underachieving group or their schemes are wrong. I think the two halves of this game showed it was the latter. For goodness sake, Gatner Webb didn’t get cut like this. It didn’t ruin the season, Florida did that but the D should be embarrassed this year. Fire Martinez!

Gotta give credit to Stafford, Moreno and the rest of the UGA offense. They played like champions and never EVER quit. They stuck in there and played with heart. If you’re offense scores 42, they have MORE than done their part. They played with guts and heart. Good job guys. Too bad your D couldn’t play as well as you did.

It’s not the kids on the team that I want to rub this in on. It’s the idiots that come on these blogs and talk smack about how the ACC is weak and PJ’s offense is nothing but a high-school offense and a gimmick. Those idiots will be crying in their beers tonight while they watch the replays and look for places where they can find places to blame the refs or claim that Tech was cheating.

BTW - Anyone know Willie Martinez’s real estate agent? Tough to be moving in this market.

Hats off to the entire GT team, especially Coach Paul Johnson, Josh Nesbitt, Jonathan Dwyer and Roddy Jones! Props to Morgan Burnett too - I always love it when the defense scores! Many of us are now believers in CPJ’s triple option offense!

I admit in the first half, particularly the second quarter, my thoughts were “here we go again!” However, the third quarter was a gift from above! Unbelievable: three touchdowns, going for it on fourth down, recovering a fumble on a kickoff, and going for two extra points and making it - twice!

Also, I love the “I hate you guys!” video - a bit crude, but I agree with the general sentiment - well done!

I guess that if there are any doubting Thomases out there there is no hope for you. Football is all blocking and tackling no matter the offense or defense.The rest is great coaching. Looks like Tech has a good one. Anyone who can take mostly Fresh and Sophs and win as they have this year deserves to be the Coach of the Year! In his initial speech as GT Head Coach at Tech he said that day that “the priority was to beat Georgia”, mission accomplished.

What a man, what a clever head coach!

I’ll wager that Bobby Dodd would be so proud of what CPJ did today, and how he did it.

Great Win Jackets. Even down by 16 at half I did not feel panicked. The reason is CPJ. He has done the best job working with what players Gailey left for him, which most people thought only 3 or 4 wins good. Given time and his personnel he can make Tech into a national power.

I am so happy for the seniors and for 7 years of grief the Tech nation has had to endure. As much as I despise UGA, they are still a very good football team which makes this win even sweeter. Even though VPI won today, this I think is even bigger for the program. The ACC is there for the taking next year, but for now and 364 days to come, bragging rights over UGA.

Give credit? Bah. Haven’t you heard that the credit market is really tight now? Forget that. Tech won. S* the legislature’s little playground team. You knowshon that the legislature changed the university calendar from quarters to semesters because of UGA football, right? Despite the fact that the second largest school in the university system is GSU, and the quarter system allowed all the working people there to be considered full time when only taking two classes, and despite the fact that Tech had the largest non-mandatory co-op program in the USA (which was made possible because of the quarter system, which allowed students to work one quarter and take one quarter off and still graduate in a reasonable amount of time)? I hate UGA, I hate everything about that stupid school, and Athens, and the legislature, and all the dumb trailer park denizens who run around yelling “Arf Arf Arf!” even though they can’t spell it. Bleep UGA. Knowshon what I mean?

The defense was weak and sloppy at times, but they also got some necessary stops. The offense was unbelievable…

and now we can shut up these uneducated ugay fans who are always mouthin off about a school they never attended and a sport they could never play….

but the best part is not that we kicked their bullpu$$y azzes on their home field—the best part is that we will do it again next year, only we will beat them WORSE… in ATL… with or without Staff and No-Show… AND we will win our Division too…

Georgia was not overrated, GT was underrated.

OK, maybe UGA was a bit overrated at the beginning of the season. I’m not going to gloat about this win. Just let the puppies go away and be quiet.

And where is Mr. ACC sux. The ACC is doing OK against the mighty SEC today.

Great win today and the good stuff has just started. We lose no starters on O and only 4 (although 4 big ones) on D.

Now lets go win a big bowl game and come ready to ramble in 2009.

I am thrilled with the win, of course, but I wouldnt gloat too much. That was what a rivalry game should be.

If you had told me we had to score 45 against UGA to win, I would have thought we were sunk.

Grea testament to the character of CPJ and the team. It would have been easy to fold after the first half.

Blah, Blah, Blah. All that matters is today. WE won, you lost. UGAG fans are such poor loosers and no nothing about sportmanship. They’ll probably be screaming, “Fire Mark Richt” before you know it. That would be pretty stupid. UGa played three good teams all year and where 0-3 against them. A good season for Tech; a great season for a 1st year coach. We are so glad to have Paul Johnson; he is a smart man. Now we will be to go to a quality bowl game.

We were first Ga fans, then we were Ga Southern fans (and still are) but we had Paul Johnson as a coach. Tech will have a lot of Ga Southern fans now and you just have no idea what is in store for your team. His little “high school offense” made its mark at Ga Southern, at Navy, and just wait until you see what he can do at Tech. He is a great coach and you Tech fans are in for a ride and we will be cheering you all the way. You will see a National Championship!

Coach Richt has been exposed for the poser that he and his team has been all year.

I said in the pre-season that that CMR was rueing the day that Coach Paul Johnson was hired.

He knew then that the UGA-Tech game would be competitive.

Only Gailey has perpetuated the farce that Richt was competent at his craft.

Saban, Meyer and Johnson has showcased Richt as a pseudo-coach, that snows the media better than the competition….

UGA needs to not only sacrifice Martinez, but might be better served to jettison all of them for some bona fide results.

On second thought, please keep Richt.

He is so easy to figure out and Tech will enjoy whpping his A— until Athens tires of him and finally relieves him of his duties.

The sad fact is that 50% of all UGA fans are not graduates of the University.

This is obviously because they cannot relate to the intellect that is GA Tech.

Is it any wonder that three Astronauts are Tech Grads?

UGA is always going to be a sham of a univeristy and a football squad.

Great game, great win for GT. Awesome display by Nesbitt, Dwyer, Roddy, AND Stafford, Knowshon, and Massaquoi. I wouldnt have thought Tech would win without the D holding UGA to under 30 points. What it came down to is crucial turnovers. WE took them and got 14 points from them. Jones and Dwyer also broke key tackles for long gains. Go Tech! Should be a better rivalry over the next few years.

Super comeback! I thought it was out of reach, and then we had the lead!

Credit the mutts. Stafford’s quick slant passes to Massequoa were unstoppable. This game matched up to very good teams. We had 2 big turnovers go our way and that was the difference.

I’m hoping next year we pay them back by matching the 51-7 stomping they gave us with Greene, Pollack, et al.

Now I’m looking forward to see how well recruiting goes this winter!

Too bad Grizzard and UGA 6 1/2 weren’t around to see it. When was the last time the dergs got 42 points and lost? Willie Martinez would make a great new head coach for Clem and his Son. He could be replaced with a cardboard cutout of Erik Russell. How about the Peach Bowl (or whatever it’s called nowdays) inviting Tech and UGAy for a rematch so we can thump them again. Wow!!! Great game guys. I was pessimistic about this game thinking that we would be whipped along the lines, but I am sooooo glad that I was wrong. I don’t care if we go to a bowl game or not, this was the icing on the cake of what was to be a rough season in transition.

To think that we beat the preseason #1 declared MNC on their home field, in their back yard, with their own pregame show on Ch 46 CBS, which should immediately be lifted by a giant bull dozer and moved to Athens where it and Gil Tyree belong.

THWG and thank you Paul Johnson and your team for ending the drought!!!!

First of all thank you Mr Radakovich for restoring our pride and dignity with the hiring of P Johnson. We are deeply grateful. Thank you PJ for making our team believe in themselves. As stated already, please, DRAD do whatever is needed to keep our coach happy and at Tech. Be assured, we will support you. This is much better day than if we had lost to UGA and had won the Coastal champ. We greatly prefer this win over going to the Tampa game.

Comparing this game to others, FSU is a better team than UGA, Virginia and North Carolina could certainly beat UGA on a given Saturday, and I would consider Boston College and Virginia Tech to be equal to UGA.

Exciting game with lots of ebb and flow.

Interesting tribute to Munson (who was always better than Ciraldo). Tech pretty much gashed the Dawgs hobnail boot style in the 3rd Qtr though.

Tech needs to beef up its defense under CPJ. Lack of top quality linebackers really enabled Stafford & Massaquoi today.

I surprised some the dumb a$$’s that call themselves Tech Fans. It’s okay to have something/anything to say, but replicating it over and over.

On a statistical point, David Braine said fans could not/should not expect 10 win seasons at GT. Two years ago, Tech had 3 chances to win 10 or more. This year they have another chance to win 10. Braine is a good example of managers with no management ability.

In a way, I’m glad Tech didn’t get a free pass to the ACC championship. Let’s face it, they lost a game against UVA they shouldn’t have, and mailed in their game against UNC. Next year Tech needs to get their priorities set early that winning the ACC championship is #1. Even though they’ll probably get a decent bowl this year, they lost out on a chance to play in the Orange Bowl. You have to play in these games to recruit the very best players.

Congratulations to the Georgia Tech players. You never quit and can be proud that you went to Athens and beat a very talented Georgia team. And congratulations to CPJ and his staff. I’m not sure what you told the boys at alf time, but I give you all lots of credit for keeping the team focused when they could have quit.

I wasn’t a Chan Gailey hater, but I did hate that he never understood the importance of this game. Down 16 at the half, Chan would have led us to a 45 point loss today. The difference is staggering. How can anyone not like this offense?? It ‘s easily the most entertaining football I’ve seen in the last 20 years.

I sincerely appreciate the Georgia fans that have come on here and shown some class in congratulating the Tech team. You guys have a great offense, easily he best that Tech has seen this year, Stafford and your receivers carved us up like a plump Thanksgiving turkey. We were very lucky to escape with a win. I’ll be very happy to see Staffod jump to the NFL.

To the trash talking Tech fans.. show a little class. I’m not at all sure that the “best ” teeam won today. However, I am sure that the tam with the most heart won!

Thanks again Jackets for a very entertaining 2008 season. Just wish I was back in Atlanta so I could get out and see you more often. Good luck in your bowl game.. Hope it’s in Florida where I can attend.

Awesome win Jackets! It feels wonderful to finally get that little red and black mutt off our backs! The victory was made even sweeter knowing that this TECH team denied UGA of the ONE goal they had left on their list.

1) Win the National Championship - nope

2) Win the SEC Championship - nada

3) Win their division in the SEC - no

4) Beat Tech for the 8th straight time -NOT!

This TECH fan didn’t know what to expect from Johnson’s first season. I am extremely happy that they went 9-3 this season. It’s a great start to the Paul Johnson era. Congratulations TECH for a great season!

UGA IS a football factory, as one Tech player reportedly mouthed, today. UGA did field a good team today - Tech just outfought them. Now let’s see, Jackets, what does being a football factory get a school? It gets you prominence in just one sport, which features some mass play. But otherwise, Tech owns the record 8-game football victory streak over UGA; Tech has four football national championships, to UGA’s one; Tech has already won the 61-year-long Tech-UGA Freshman football series by two games (concluded in 1993, it will never be renewed); Tech is very far ahead of UGA in their all-time baseball series; Tech is very far ahead of UGA in their all-time basketball series I can’t see that being a football factory gets a school anything except empty glory, and money, and we all know the money’s currently going down the drain, too. Everybody is aware that you can play football in an S.E.C. school for a long time without ever having to go to class, although you might have to go to jail. Maybe some of those “casual” fans, who never went to Tech or UGA, ought to drop UGA, and come home to Tech.

If the ACC cannot beat the SEC in total head to head wins this win, it will be a disaster. The SEC is the next to last conference in the NCAA this year (after the Little 10). Who told these people that the SEC was worth a da…m. ? The Big 12 makes the SEC look like church football. Lets schedule more SEC teams and drop Gardner-Webb. I would love for Tech to get UT and Auburn on the field. I would much rather win with 85,000 drunks in the stadium than the avg 60,000 that we play in front of in the ACC.

I wish GT had a school of journalism. That way, they could get some decent and fair press coverage once in a while…..I’m a GSU graduate, and currently live in Annapolis, MD. I bought NAVY season tickets when I moved here in 2004 because I think that CPJ’s version of the triple option is the most exciting and thrilling offense in college football. There IS a reason that Erk Russel chose CPJ to institute that particular offense at Georgia Southern when he be re-started football there back in 2001-2002. It goes back to when Coach Russel had to defend against another “high-school” Coach, Paul “Bear” Bryant and his version of the triple option called the “Wishbone”. Whether you call it the “Wish-Bone” “Ham-Bone”, the Triple Option”, or the “Spread Option”, when that offense is run to perfection, it is unbeatable.
BTW, my favorite shot on TV was late in the game when UGA VI was holed-up in his cute little doghouse, while Tech was proving once again that if you can’t run with the big ones, stay on the porch (or in the dog house.) THWG

Well GT….ya’ll played a good game. I knew CPJ would do a good job for ya’ll! I was at GSU when he was there and was able to put up similar numbers rushing every game. I do believe your team will continue to improve. Good luck in your bowl game. It is nice to see that the UGA-GT rivalry has be reignited. You now see what difference a coaching change can make…so you should understand why UGA fans are calling for the firing of Martinez…..so keep in mind when that finally happens UGA will be able to slow your offense. So childish. Tech won, congrats on a big win. But do you really think this is all that meaningful? You won by three points after losing seven in a row and something like 13 of 16. I’m sure a lot of this screaming is cathartic but it seems really silly.

The offense IS gimmicky but it is very well run and well run gimmick offenses work in college. I think it would be great for this to be a meaningful rivalry again but I’ll need more than one game to declare it so. Good luck in your bowl, Jackets.

The most important difference that CPJ brings is belief. GT was down 28-12. It could have been easy for Tech to feel this was gonna be another one of those games… Instead, they lit the house on fire in the second half.

I did not care for the the defensive play that allowed ugay to score their final touchdown, but this team is fundamentally different because CPJ has the passion, the desire, the will to win, and he instills it into his players, despite what all the critics are saying.

It’s not the most beautiful win, not the most exciting, but it is the most satisfying because it prevents ugay from matching our 8 game win streak and it provided a national backdrop to forcefully confirm the sea change that has occurred at GT. These coming years are going to be a real pleasure to watch!!

Where does it rank? Well, sit down, sonny, I’m a real old girl. It is big - very big - but it has to go behind the 1990 win over #1 Virginia to give Tech its chance at a National Championship (the year UPI Coaches poll was honest but AP gave the 8-3-1 Colorado Buffaloes their prize). The most incredible win I remember against UGa was 1969, when 3-6 Tech scored a touchdown, missed the extra point, and the defense held on to finally intercept a Dawg pass for an attempted tying TD in the end zone. The only two other games I would rank ahead of this one are the homecoming win against Notre Dame in its glory days in 1976 and the only genuine pasting of Georgia I ever saw in 1974 (34-14) back in the (November 30?) sleet storm of 1974. It was a very similar win to this one, with Tech running the wishbone option offense and Georgia at a defensive disadvantage in the muddy sleet of Samford Stadium. But this was definitely a good win and it means Tech still has the longest streak in the series (8). Paul Johnson is a hero!

But I have to say that the GT players defiling the Hedges is reprehensible. I Hope there were some GT coaches somewhere repremanding them for that… no different than stomping on the logo midfield. The AJC is becoming more like a tabloid every day for posting those pictures. These players are kids, and I hope your coach will teach them about class because I do believe Paul Johnson to be a classy guy from what I knew of him. Congrats again GT.

To Tech Fans far and wide, on this earth and above; I wish you could have seen us. Not just the team and the coaches that the TV focused on but, our FANS and our Band.

A DAWG Fan at church graciously offered me a ticket and as much as I couldn’t bare the thought of what I went thru in 2006, I had to go. And then the lord opened the heavens and the much needed rain fell. Not so much that UGAy fans would have an excuse, but just enough so the fair weather Walmart Alumni would stay home and make room for us.

There I was, inexplicably sitting across the aisle from Larry Munson and our coaches on the other side of him. I was reminded of a business trip I took for Scientific-Atlanta when I found myself in Moscow’s Red Square. Yea thou I walked thru the valley of the shadow of the dark empire, I feared no Shawn (nor Stafford either). And across the way I had a glorious view of our fans filling their upper deck and in the Southwest end zone. OUR band could not be drowned out. I heard the dawg fans around me growling about how sick they were of hearing that song. And when we stormed back in the 3rd quarter, Mark Richt gathered the UGA team in a semi-circle around him like a choir section at church. You should have heard the red menace then. Oh they thought the great savior was about to anoint another blessed come back. BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE, our team was bouncing. Our band was playing, our fans were singing.

And then it happened. We kicked off and stripped the ball and glory be to God and Buzz on high. You know what happened next. Another one play drive. Later though is when the most spiritual thing happened. Of course the Dawgs would rally. That’s what happens in great battles. They’d pulled to within 3, 38-35. With the might throng roaring, around the right side and down the UGA sideline Roddy romped. For those of you who went to commercial, this is when it happened. It got deathly quiet in the mighty cathedral. It was as though the closing prayer was being said. It was truly eerie After that it was just a matter of time.

I greeted the coaches as they ran from their booth to the locker room. I walked subdued with my hosts as they filed out mournfully. I caught a glimpse of the team gathered before the band. I could hear you all the way across campus to the Meyer-Butts building. I was with you in spirit, whether you were in Athens, Atlanta, Lawrenceville, Boston, Raleigh-Durham, Dallas, Austin, Denver, Silicone Valley, Seattle, around the world or in outer space. And to you all I say, “it’s GREAT to be a Yellow Jacket, oh it’s GREAT to be a Yellow Jacket”.

And for some of you to say that Stafford and Moreno are overrated, after they put 42 (again) on you is comical. Still, congrats, but don’t count on GA’s D being this bad again. Last, as a Dawg graduate, the thing that p** me off the most is how teams that win at Stanford feel entitled to tear off part of The Hedges. This is property, not a decoration. what an amazing game…in so many ways. First of all, my congrats to the UGA fans in section 104. very civil and good natured. Maybe because we had a fair amount of GT fans there.

I was so pleased to see the 3-1 record the ACC posted against the SEC (4 bowl bound SEC teams i might add). You’ll see much more mention of that in national media than the AJC.

Some classy dog posters here - thanks for that. Meanwhile the same obnoxious ones never return for their crow. I was talking with my son about it on the way home from Athens and guaranteed there would be at least one “I physically kicked some GT guy’s a**.” Thanks for proving my point dawg.

Looking forward to wearing my GT gear around Atlanta with pride. Now…let’s make it a basketball sweep as well!

ACC 6 SEC 4; better ACC 4 Big 12 0! Will the media check the facts for possibly the 1st time instead of just repeating the same comments they hear from others. The ACC is the only conference with a winning record over both the powerful SEC and the Big 12. Seems the ACC beats them head to head. The only conference that is ahead of the ACC is the Big 10, one game when Northwestern beat Duke. But the media will contuinue to belittle the conference. On Friday’s Sports Center the ESPN commentators (one was Flutie) could not hide their snickering when talking about this weekend’s ACC match-ups. Well who’s snickering now? Admit it media, possibly you are wrong.

Congrats on the win yesterday, Tekkies. Enjoy it while you can. The future may not be quite as bright in your neck of the woods as you might think.

Tech fans will soon discover why no other coach at a major D-1 school runs the option. It might be when you’re playing your 7th game of the season and your 4th string QB is in the game because the first 3 are injured.

It might be when you play your 3rd straight opponent who has mysteriously unlocked the secret of how to defend the option. Most of the quality opponents you guys played held Tech to 21 points or less. Your 3 big games came against FSU, Miami & Georgia. Teams like Virginia, UNC, Va. Tech & BC did a pretty good job of keeping the option in check.

Notice any correlation? Tech is always going to struggle against teams where the term student/athlete is not an oxymoron. Any team with a halfway decent defensive coaching staff and players who have a clue how to handle their assignments will do a decent job against the option.

Unless your coach can locate the next Tracy Ham, the option is only as good as the opposing defense is undisciplined. Fortunately for you guys, Georgia’s defense, mostly its brain dead DBs, did pretty much every thing it could to ensure your victory yesterday.

The vaunted option did not exactly shred the porous ‘Dog defense in the first half. But sticking to your assignment for an entire game is simply more than a lot of ‘Dog defenders can handle, and we all saw what happened in the 2nd half.

Pretty much every enraged ‘Dog fan is calling for Willie Martinez to be fired. I doubt that’s the case on your end, but don’t you think your guy would have stopped blitzing after it didn’t work the first 15 or so times & maybe give your overmatched CBs some help.

Be thankful that the geniuses on the other sideline had burned 2 of their 3 timeouts & that you guys scratched out a late 1st down. If Georgia got the ball back with more than about 30 seconds on the clock, either the game was going to OT or the Tech fans at the game would have been contemplating suicide.

Unless of course, one of the ‘Dog linemen was called for holding, nullifying another 30-yard pass to Green or MoMass. That would have been your only hope.

See you next year, hopefully with a new defensive coordinator and probably with a new QB & TB. Should even up the odds a bit.

Virgil, when Ugay was up I kept telling all those around me to be patient, Tech would come back and win. I also told them not worry as I was not worried. Maybe I had more faith in PJ than some. PJ is the man, the reverend rich or how ever he spell his name is just average but with good athlete which covers up his lack of coaching.

One thing that shouldn’t go unhearlded. This young TECH team has gone through a slew of injuries, continuing even yesterday and yet some one keeps stepping up and doing the job. Considering the youth, injuries,new system, coaches etc, this has been a pretty amazing group of young men.

Coming into every year there is the goals to beat UGA and compete for the ACC championsip but now with CPJ the bar has just been raised

there is a legitimite chance that this group of guys on offense (assuming non go pro and barring injury) that this team will be a SERIOUS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER in 2 years and should be the favorite iin the ACC next year

I’m sure your projections of Tech’s option demise will be as good as UGAG’s #1 preseason ranking. Oh wait. That was totally wrong.

To 74 UGA Grad, Thanks so much for your analysis of our programs future trials due to the ever so predictable option,though your insights are accepted in the same spirit as they were offerred. I would like to point out one “correlation” you seemed to overlook, and I only do so as you seem to be a truth-seeker, and so would accept no less. The missed correlation in the four games you mentioned is that in those four games, GT had three turnovers. It would seem that the losses were due less to the opposing teams ability to stop the option or their “figuring it out” than to GT’s youth and inexperience. Hope you take this correction in the same spirit that your insights were meant.

One thing Georgia fans find particularly amusing about so many of you Tekkies is your unswerving delusions about your football program. Unfortunately, a lot of fans of my alma mater display the same symptons, but most of them are simply mindless cheerleaders barking in the stands. You guys are supposed to be brainiacs, so what’s your excuse.

To Woodstock Jacket, you assume that since I went to Georgia, I live and die with how the football team does. I don’t. I watch the team on TV, hope they win and neither exult when they win nor mope when they lose. I actually even pull for Tech sometimes when a kid I watched play in high school plays for you guys.

The truly pathetic thing is that people like you take more enjoyment from the supposed misery of your opponent’ fans than you do from your own team’s success. Given how lopsided the rivalry has been of late (and how thoroughly obnoxious many of the Bulldog faitful are), I’m not surprised at the outpouring of pent-up bile from the Tech side. But I’m not surprised that your unwavering faith in Tech’s rise to the top is as unshakeable as ever.

Georgia was never as good as its overblown pre-season rep. The only people who bought into that were the diehard ‘Dog fans and media mental midgets who confuse big names on offense with national championship contenders.

If ya’ll really think Johnson’s offense is going to make you a BCS program, I hope you don’t take it out on him when it doesn’t.

Enjoy the Peach Bowl and your powerhouse opponent from Columbia or Baton Rouge. You guys have your best season in years and you don’t even get a bowl trip out of it.

Also celebrate your 6-4 record against the SEC, which pretty much stinks across the board this year. Any of you hard core ACC fans ever wonder why it is that the Peach Bowl matches the No. 2 team from your conference against No. 5 or 6 from the SEC? One of your rocket scientist grads should be able to figure that out.

Some random thoughts on the game, the rivalry, and fans (both sides)… First of all the game yesterday will go down as one the greatest in the series and one of Tech’s top three victories of all time. If Dawg fans can immortalize the Theron Sapp drought breaking game of ‘57 then Tech fans will surely be talking decades from now about the drought breaking game of ‘08. Having broken John Heisman’s first year coaching record ( 8 victories) on The Flats with his ninth win yesterday, CPJ certainly has got Yellow Jacket fans feeling good and thinking positive thoughts. We may actually be witnessing the beginning of another great era in Tech football history by one of its yet to be greatest coaches.

If nothing else, yesterday should be a wake-up call to Georgia fans that things are going to be quite different in the rivalry for the foreseeable future. But they shouldn’t get down on themselves too much. Mark Richt is a good coach and will continue to get great players and win most of his regular season and bowl games and occasionally win a SEC championship for good measure and who knows… maybe even get that next elusive national championship that seems to be many of their supporters only obsession in life. Providing of course they don’t tell him out how to coach or worse… run him out of Athens. They should be glad they have him. He’s a class act and one of the premiere coaches in college football. He and their football program will be fine if not great all the time like they want (or expect).

The difference now is UGA will not, I repeat will not dominate the Tech-GA series like it has and will have to accept the fact it can’t count on the annual Tech game as a automatic W. UGA fans may not want to recognize or admit it just yet but their team’s road to the national championship got a whole lot harder the day PJ was hired at Tech. As it is, I foresee no long winning streaks by either school against the other and blowouts by either may become a thing of the past too. This state and the region in general has way too many great football players for Tech to not get its share and CPJ will definitely get his share… you can bank on it. And when Tech does lose, it won’t be because he got out coached. He’s not Chan Gailey!!!

I can’t possibly add anything that hasn’t already been said about this year’s team and the great job they and the coaching staff did. Yeah, not all the goals they set for themselves were attained but who could’ve ever imagined 9-3, beating UGA the way they did, and coming within a eyelash of going to the ACC Championship game in Tampa. If every season could be as satisfying as this one has been then I’d never really have anything to complain about. It’s like when after you wash your car and it seems to drive better then so is life a whole lot better when Tech beats Georgia. Even God must be a Tech fan if what they say about the streets in Heaven being paved with gold… old gold that is.

And one last thing. I really do enjoy a lot of the stuff on the blogs. Some of it is unbelievably funny and outrageous. But some of it is overly optimistic, ridiculously naive , and otherwise absolutely classless… from both sets of fans. Understandably, us Tech fans have a right to celebrate and for the next year rub some of the obnoxious UGA fan’s nose in it but we really do need to keep it clean and intelligent. Let’s try to rise above the riff-raft and act like the school and the football program we purport to love and admire. Just keep saying Georgia Tech 45 Georgia 42. That says it all. GO JACKETS and THWG!!!

The media polls have done it again! Such a disservice to GT with this major error. Both the AP and the USA polls have the GT football record as 8-3 not the correct number of 9-3. This is bowl selection week and common sense tells everyone that this error will rank GT lower than we should be. A .750 rating is much better than a .667. And if this incorrect number is what the pollsters used for sure it would result in GT being ranked less favorably than the correct number.

I live in Omaha, NE and am a HUGE tech fan. I’m probably the only one in the state but that’s ok. Just looked on the bowl projections from ESPN and looks like it will be NEBRASKA vs GT in the gator bowl.

My dream has come true, NU vs GT. Everyone in the state worships nebraska because it’s the only big college we have and there is no pro team. It’s gonna be great to be able to rub it in their faces after we win it.

The truth about the SEC: Now that the regular season is in the books, we can go ahead and say it. The SEC was exceptional at the top this season. Case in point: Alabama and Florida. Ole Miss made a nice run and is playing really good football right now. Otherwise, it was a pretty average league. Never was that more apparent than last Saturday with Georgia, South Carolina and Vanderbilt all losing to ACC teams. And, no, we’re not talking about basketball, either. Auburn and Tennessee each had losing seasons. The Vols were so bad that the dean of SEC coaches, Phillip Fulmer, got fired. Who knows if Tommy Tuberville is safe? Defending national champion LSU tanked thanks to an underachieving defense and finished with a losing season in the conference. The SEC couldn’t even fill all of its bowl tie-ins because not enough teams could get to .500. Outside of Tuscaloosa, Gainesville and Oxford, it’s not a season they’ll be remembering for years to come.

74 UGA grad, I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for someone to magically figure out how to stop CPJ’s offense. You seem to ignore the facts that: (1) This is Tech’s first year running this thing and the games they lost they had three turnovers a piece (ie a very young team, green at running the option based spread, stopped themselves). Notice however, the points/yards got better at the END of the year as the team progressed along the learning curve. This doesn’t bode well next year for the opposition, “disciplined” or not. (2) CPJ has been running this thing for years and continues to adapt and to perfect it. I don’t think any D coordinator is going to throw anything at him that he hasn’t seen and doesn’t know how to ADJUST to. (So fire Willie—we don’t care).

fu- Here is NCAA football rule 7-3-2: Any time during the game, quarterback A10, who is not outside the frame of the body of normal tackle position toward a sideline and is attempting to save yardage, intentionally throws a desperation forward pass that falls incomplete where no eligible Team A player has a reasonable opportunity to catch it. RULING: Intentional grounding. Penalty—Loss of down at the spot of the foul. The clock starts on the snap (Rule 3-2-5-a).

I know that the CBS announcers (eventually) called it a “tackle box”, and that you must have confused that with the one in your truck where you keep your lures, so I hope seeing the actual rule might help you.

MOMASS had a heck of a Senior Day game, but not even he had a reasonable chance of catching that ball.

I take the time to comment on your inane post despite reading time after time after time last year that you make your own luck, and that sometimes you just have to overcome bad calls. 45-42.

One of the youngest teams in the country. I can’t wait for next year. We were two fumbles away from a one loss season, UNC was the only bad loss. I hope we learn something from Georgia, about high expectations. I tell you one thing as long as Tech plays good football and sits at the end of Georgia’s schedule the dawgs will be a better team because of it just as Tech is because of Georgia.

In August, UGAY ranked #1. GT picked to go 3-9. Early November, UGAY BCS ranked #11, GT unranked. At any point up until we skunked Miami would any sane person have thought it possible….???

I’ve been a GT fan since I was a kid in the mid-50’s. This Tech victory is in my top 3, simply because of the 7 year losing streak, our new regime and the way we stormed back after getting our a*******es handed to us in the first half. Only two better wins I can remember: 1990 41-38 victory ove #1 ranked UVA, setting the stage for our National Championship and the 1962 GT 7-6 victory over Bear’s National Champ Alabama team that had won 26 in a row. (I can still see that ‘Bama player going to his right trying to score a 2 point conversion late in the game, getting stuffed at the one. (The ‘69 Tech 6-0 win over a good UGAY at the end of a pretty dismal GT season was also particularly sweet.)

I Love Tech and I think we are set for some fun seasons to come. Go Jackets and TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!!
