Bad news/good news

It’s a bad news/good news story for Tech at halftime.

The Jackets trail 28-12 in Athens and will get the ball to start the second half.

They can’t stop the Bulldogs, but Virginia is winning 14-7 in Blacksburg.

Offensively, Tech must get Jonathan Dwyer going. Georgia has done a nice job clogging the middle. Tech’s best plays have come on outside tosses.

Morgan Burnett’s pick-six got Tech on the board, but the banged-up secondary has been exposed. No Jahi Word-Daniels again because of the hamstring, and safety Dominique Reese, trying to come back from a knee injury, missed a tackle on Mohamed Massaquoi’s long TD.

Georgia is playing pitch and catch. Massaquoi has 3 TDs already.

Can Tech turn this around?

I really thought we needed Jahi, and it is showing. It will be a long day if we don’t hit Stafford, and so far, it looks like a long day.

Go Jackets!! I appreciate the effort.

We are not awful, but the UGA passing attack is very good, and our pass defense is only mediocre. Mediocre will not stop a great pass attack. On top of that, we are missing our best cornerback in Jahi Word-Daniels.

It would take a miracle now, but I believe in Coach Johnson, and I know he will do what he can to make the game today competitive.

Either way, UGA better enjoy today if they win, because I believe it will be their last for awhile.

Go Jackets!!

The only reason the Gnats are 8-3 is because they play in the ACC - the ALL CRAP CONFERENCE. Georgia will beat them down this year - same as the last seven years. All the nerds are already clammering - wait till next year. Maybe your two douchebags can make another lame rap about the streak???

We knew they had the better athletes. If we continue to get no pressure on Stafford and their defense continues to play as disciplined as they did in the first half then it will be eight in a row no question. We’ll see if CPJ can figure out any changes that might give us an edge. But Richt and Martinez are good coaches too so I am not expecting it. I think CPJ is going to need one or two recruiting classes to have a shot. But it’s not over until it’s over. Go Jackets!

Tech fans wouldn’t it be nice if we took off a week before the big game to prepare? ThUGA acts as if this game doesn’t mean much, but CMR takes off a week to get his gang ready and it pays off.

This looks like ThUGA’s day. Not bad for the preseason #1.

AlabamaRamblinwreck,

Are you really pulling the “we don’t have Word-Daniels” card? Really? Typical yech fan. I actually hope that GT makes the ACC championship game so the conference will lose even more credibility….if that is even possible. Let me guess….the game won’t sell out AGAIN. Your conference is the joke of the country. I heard that the Mountain West is going to take the ACC’s place as a BCS conference. Goooooo Dawgs GATA in the second half.

From a UGA grad and former Redcoat…..still a ways to go, but if the Bees win, it’s simply because you guys deserve it. 26-point third quarter, and we can’t make a friggin’ tackle to save our lives…..PENALTIES, PENALTIES, PENALTIES!!!!!!!! AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

I propose a trade - we’ll put Reggie Ball in our hall of fame as the best QB in UGA history, if you’ll tajke Asher Allen as Tech’s best DB.

This is classic UGA-Ga. Tech….till the last man falls, but Georgia has to make a stand, and QUICK, if the Dogs are going to make it 8 in a row.

Hate to say this, but great game, Tech. Whatever happens from this point (nid-fourth quarter, Tech up 10), you guys have played a hell of a game.

By Overrated!

I tried to tell everyone that the SEC sucks this year aside from Alabama and Florida. Georgia has been beating up on sub-par competition, and gets hit in the mouth everytime they face a decent team.

Get used to this UGA. Paul Johnson is ten times the coach that Mark Richt is. Just wait until they start getting even better recruits at GT.

By jwatl

November 29, 2008 3:37 PM | Link to this

Georgia and Mark Richt embarrassed themselves in Athens today! Paul Johnson just out coached Richt!! With the talent Richt had, this should have been a cake walk. Instead, like the game against Alabama and Florida, Mark Richt had his shorts handed to him! During the off season, Richt needs to take some serious lessons in discipline and defense.

WOW!! Jackets ahead 38-28 n 4th Qtr, ~ 7” left. The YEllow Jackets look like they are going to break the Drought and keep Bobby Dodd’s record of 8 straight intact. Kudos to the Dawgs for having such a great run over the years, but the Rivalry needs to get back on track. The Jackets and Bulldogs were even when Dodd was coach, but now it will take a long time for the Jackets to catch up. The biggest step is aways the 1st one, and Tech may have taken it. It still ain’t over, bUt it looks great.

I love how Tech walks away with a W and is clearly the better team. Yet the overrated Preseason #1 Bulldogs are still talking smack and telling us to “go to hell”. Preseason “#1” just got run over by preseason “We don’t even give them a chance”.

Let this be a lesson to all you smack-talking dogs. If you had a little more sportsmanship, this loss wouldn’t burn your pride so badly.

you know, the best part is not that we kicked your bullpu$$y azzes on your home field—the best part is that we will do it again next year, only we will beat you WORSE… in ATL… with or without Staff and No-Show… AND we will win our Division too…

So much fun for us long-time Georgia Southern fans to see the triple option work. Please don’t do like our AD — he stopped believing in it!!! What a great, great win.

Do it PJ and Sewak and Giff and the rest of the former Georgia Southern guys. I loved it!

Congrats Jackets Helluva Game!

Sorry Virginia couldn’t do the same.

True Story: The house is divided, so my brother called me in the middle of a Funeral (We are Funeral Directors)to tell me we (GT)are sorry. I replied, “Surrender the Flag Peacefully and I will allow you to leave the Forth (UGA)with honor!” He laughed and hung up mobile. Well, by the end of the 3rd Quarter Techs ahead and my brother hasn’t answered the phone since. Great Game Tech!

Great game ThUGA. Thanks for the hard fought battle. While it is great to be a Yellow Jacket this year, Tech fans know the pain on the other end…we’ve been there the last seven years.

All I can say is CPJ has us back on track. Tech fans, let’s hope that we can make a rivalry of this game once again….Go TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good point. Good thing we don’t have those pesky G-W Bulldogs on the sked next year…but we will have a Sly-less MSU and of course UGA back on The Flats, with or without Staff/Moreno/Massaquoi.

Meanwhile, we pulled off the Bulldog hat trick!

And UVA better watch out for revenge x 2 next year…I don’t care if it’s in Charlottesville. Next year we TCB in the ACC.

And the winner of the GA/TECH game is GA. SOUTHERN. Who’d have thought that low life “south GA” (meaninbg anywhere outside metro Atlanta)could provide a coach that could pull this off! Get in line Arthur Blank. Johnson is the best thing that ever happened to NAVY and now TECH!

Have to congratulate the Bumbles on a hard-fought win. You guys played a hell of a second half while the Dogs couldn’t tackle their mothers in their own kitchen. CPJ deserves a world of credit for the job he’s done this year, and I hope that this will be a wake-up call for CMR and the Dogs. I will be so damn glad to see Asher Allen graduate! That clown has singlehandedly kept a half-dozen opponents in the game this year with his dumbass penalties!

On the other hand, if we don’t hand one over to you guys once every seven or eight years, you just get SOOOOOO b***!!

Looking forward to a rivalry that is going to have real weight to it again!! Next year in ATlanta, Bees!!

I told all the option haters almost a year ago that PJ was a winner. I have followed this guy when he was at Ga Southern and watched many practices at the Naval Academy.

You have witnessed two back to back 400 yard rushing games vs Miami and now the arrogant puppies from athens.

Ga Tech will explode on offense next year. The 2nd year is always the biggest jump for Paul Johnson’s offense.

At Ga Southern, they ran for 280 yds/gm 1st year and then 378 yds/gm the 2nd year. At Navy, they went from 270 yds/gm in the 1st year to 323 yds/gm in his 2nd year. Defense was always an issue at the academy and if they can maintain what they have going currently, you can expect to see close to 400 yds/gm rushing next year.

The last time div 1 teams ran for 400 yards a game was nebraska and oklahoma and you know what that means….national championships which is exactly why PJ came to a BCS team.

By the way, GT is 2-0 vs the almighty SEC. racking up over 850 yards in total rushing yards for the two games.

Georgia’s only hope is that next year the Jackets fumble alot because when you take an extra week off to practice against the option and can’t stop it, then they never will. Time to call Lou Holtz for a clinic….these young buck cordinators haven’t seen this offense and it shows.

Will the media check the facts for possibly the 1st time instead of just repeating the same comments they hear from others. The ACC is the only conference with a winning record over both the powerful SEC and the Big 12. Seems the ACC beats them head to head. The only conference that is ahead of the ACC is the Big 10, one game when Northwestern beat Duke. But the media will contuinue to belittle the conference. On Friday’s Sports Center the ESPN commentators (one was Flutie) could not hide their snickering when talking about this weekend’s ACC match-ups. Well who’s snickering now? Admit possibly you are wrong.

Today was sUGAar sweet. To beat Georgia on their turf in a year they were overrated and predicted to be in the SEC (Sorry Excuse for a Conference) Championship game as well as the Ntional Championship game was fan-tech-stic!!! I will say though that our secondary sucked today and our O-Line was a bit suspect as well. I can alsmot guarantee with the starters we have coming back next year, we will be a pre-season top 15 and if Stafford and No-Show go pro, then Georgia is on a downward spiral for a few years. But nonetheless, GREAT WIN TODAY CPJ AND JACKETS!!!!!!!

By Techfan

November 30, 2008 12:13 PM | Link to this

What a great game. Stafford threw for over 400 yards and they scored 42 points. If your offense puts up those type of numbers you usually win. My hat is off to the Georgia Tech offense and CPJ. I’m not sure if CPJ started doing something different or the GA defense just didn’t stay home or both, but it worked.

Bottom line is that both offenses played great and both defenses left something to be desired. But in the third we stopped them enough and slowed them up enough to come out on top. I am so happy to actually be in the game again and to have a real coach.

But how long can we actually keep him? It is a rare coach that wants to stay at Georgia Tech long term. Whatever we have to do to make that happen we should try. CPJ is a class act just like CMR and I want him around for a long time. But I guarantee you there are already schools looking at him with what he has done in this one year. Can you say Notre Dame?

Georgia fans, you can’t be down about 7 years straight. You have a great coach, great players, and mostly great fans. Anyone who is down on CMR is just plain crazy.

Go Jackets!!!!

The truth about the SEC: Now that the regular season is in the books, we can go ahead and say it. The SEC was exceptional at the top this season. Case in point: Alabama and Florida. Ole Miss made a nice run and is playing really good football right now. Otherwise, it was a pretty average league. Never was that more apparent than last Saturday with Georgia, South Carolina and Vanderbilt all losing to ACC teams. And, no, we’re not talking about basketball, either. Auburn and Tennessee each had losing seasons. The Vols were so bad that the dean of SEC coaches, Phillip Fulmer, got fired. Who knows if Tommy Tuberville is safe? Defending national champion LSU tanked thanks to an underachieving defense and finished with a losing season in
