Gladiator vs. Knowshon
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, enjoy the day.
I’m thankful for many things. In relation to this blog, I’m grateful for the passionate fans who post insightful, respectful and funny comments. So thank you — you know who you are.
Brad Jefferson, the Tech middle linebacker known as Gladiator, appears to be rounding into form just in time. Wednesday, he said he felt “98 percent.”
Jefferson dislocated his left wrist in the season opener and didn’t make an impact until Nov. 8 at North Carolina, when he had six tackles, five solo.
Against Miami, Jefferson stuffed RB Graig Cooper on 3rd and 1, forcing a punt.
“It’s all about watching film and knowing their tendencies and what they like to do on what down and how far it is,” he said. “I made my fit, he was there, and it all worked out.”
Jefferson was more demonstrative after that play that he has been all season.
Coaches say Jefferson, one of Tech’s strongest players, missed so much time that he hasn’t mastered all the defenses. He doesn’t stay on the field on every down. He’s out there when Tech plays its base 4-3, and Kyle Jackson comes in when Tech plays two linebackers and five defensive backs.
Still, Jefferson will be critical to the Jackets’ hopes of containing Knowshon Moreno. Jefferson did not hesitate in calling Moreno (1,244 rushing yards, 15 TDs) the best running back Tech has faced.
“They’re a great team all the way and Knowshon Moreno, you can’t take nothing from him,” Jefferson said. “He runs the ball hard, he finds his holes, they block well. I mean, we’re just going to have to stop ‘em in their tracks.”
He added that he’s “looking forward to me and him introducing ourselves.”
Jefferson, a sophomore listed at 6-2, 227, said a few weeks ago he might not have been “physically capable” of tackling Moreno. Now, he feels he is.
Of course, it won’t come down to Jefferson alone. But there’s no minimizing the importance of a healthy Gladiator.
Tech also gets back DT Vance Walker, which means Elris Anyaibe goes back to his valuable role as the No. 1 backup in the D-line rotation.
On the season, Georgia averages 160.6 rushing yards, while Tech gives up 120.2.
How do you think Tech’s defense will fare against Moreno?

Larry,
You mentioned that Bowen is starting Saturday. I have read on several message boards that he suffered a serious neck injury during practice yesterday. Do you have any / can you get any info?

It depends entirely on which Tech and which Georgia teams show up. For instance, if the Georgia team that played that first half against Alabama, or that game against Florida, shows up — they’re in trouble. Likewise, if the Tech team that played Gardner-Webb shows up, they’ll get blown out.
Another huge factor is whether Nesbitt is healthy. Without him, Tech’s offense is much easier to stop.
I think Georgia’s more balanced attack will be hard for Tech to stop, but if the Tech running game really gets untracked, that Georgia offense will spend a lot of time on the sidelines.
So really, anything can happen. Should be a good game. I’m normally a Georgia fan, but this year I’m pulling for Tech. I want them to do well under Johnson and besides, a Tech win will silent a lot of truly insufferable Georgia fans.

In the dogs’ loses this year, Knowshow been hit hard. He’s not very tough mentaly. You hit him hard, and get in his head, he’ll pull himself out. You make the dogs 1-d, frustrations will occur, and they will get rattled. Once rattled, they start getting penalties, dropping the ball, making poor passes, etc. The dogs have a lot of physical talent, they just aren’t tough enough upstairs. That’s been enough to beat Tech under Gailey. Will it be enough to beat PJ’s team. I doubt it.

It will be a war, no one comes out flat for their former players at local schools, I know I would not. As with all games,it comes down to who makes the fewest mistakes. If Tech puts the ball on the ground 3 or more times, they will lose. If UGA throws 3 or more picks, they will lose as well.
The forecast is for rain off and on Saturday. I am forecasting A LOT of mistakes.

Ga. hasn’t faced a defense like Tech’s, except for Florida and Alabama. Knowshow should be no different against Tech. Look for Stafford to throw and throw and throw. They will score. Most passes will be in desperation. IE:third and long fourth and long. If Tech stops those plays,Tech wins… If not,it will be a long day. Calling for rain..The perfectly executed option will roll. The desperation pass will fold. Tech wins, but not by much. No need to try to predict the point margin over GA. Score doesn’t matter, only a win is Techs goal. GO MIGHTY JACKETS!!! THWG…………….

Happy Thanksgiving to you Larry and to all the Tech fans, Tech done a pretty good job of stopping Moreno last year so i’m sure this year Tech D will have a good handle on how to stop him, UGA offense is a little more balanced this year though, may take some short passes to Moreno to get him some opportunities to run. Just my thinking. Hope the rain holds off for the game, coldest game we’ve had in years in Athens was against Tech a few years ago.

GT 17 - UGA 13 UGA redzone troubles continue with BOZO doing the play calling. AJ gets a fade in the endzone & 2 field goals from outside the 20. GT one 50+ DIESEL DWYER run to Paydirt and a Nesbit score with a 38yrd- field goal added to seal the deal. NOSHOW 74 yrds rushing, Dwyer 156 yrds rushing, Fatt Matt 200 yrds passing between the 20’s, 1 int 1 MoMas fumble, Nesbit 78 yrds rushing and 60 yrds passing and 1 fumble. UGA FLAGS 6-65, GT FLAGS 4-35. My View of the game and we will see what happens.

How come people act like this is the first time Tech has ever faced noshow? Noshow will probably have the same type #s he did last year against Tech with 45 yrds on 17 carries for a 2.6 avg. These are similar #s he had against UF and UA this year. Noshow pads his stats against sub par defenses then is a noshow in the big games.

Ever year Teckkies start buzzing about having a shot at our dawgs and fur the last 11 years they have went home as loosers. This year ain`t gone be no different. This year the weather will be cold and wet and frostbit Nesbitt will turn the ball over four times. Tech losses 27-14.

The word is loser, not looser. Why can people not learn this easy difference???
I have decided the real losers are those who have no grammatical or spelling abilities. Why can so many who blog not understand the difference between to, too, and two? How hard is this? What has happened to public education?
Anyway, I feel better now that I have vented. Happy Thanksgiving to all UGA and GT alumni.

On the Shane Bowen situation:
The team is not releasing anything, most likely until gameday.
If he is out, Steven Sylvester is listed behind him on the depth chart at OLB. Tony Clark is another possibility — he’s the OLB behind Anthony Barnes. And Kyle Jackson can play inside or out.
Also, Correy Earls is listed as the starter again at one WR spot. He didn’t start vs. Miami b/c of the “effort” problem against UNC, but still played quite a bit.

Alabama wreck,
Please don’t sit there and correct people’s grammar. It makes you (and us) look petty and elitist. Talk about football.
Talk about things like how CPJ has been game planning for UGA all season. I think he’s got some special stuff lined up for UGA. I can’t wait to see it. Talk about how our D-line should make it hard for Matt “the spoon” Stafford to stay upright. He’s gonna get drilled, probably a lot. If UGA does a lot of max protect, I think our young but non-blitzing D can handle 3 on 7.
Oh, by the way, feel free to talk about how the streak ends on Saturday.

Yes, you are right. It just pains me to know that our elementary schools are doing such a bad job. I am from the hills of NW GA originally, and if I can learn simple things like (to,too, two) and (lose vs. loose) coming from such an area, you would think anyone could? But I digress. The game is most important.
The main thing is to beat UGA.

You’d like to think that this game tomorrow morning is going to boil down to UGA’s Number 24 Total Defense against the nation’s Number 1 SoS versus Georgia Tech’s Number 19 Total Defense against not even a Top 25 SoS, according to the Official NCAA Strength of Schedule.
You would have us believe that (1) The Tech fans are not and have not been all over the UGA blog being as disrespectful as they can be all season long yet again this year, and that (2) this game boils down to Georgia Tech’s Number 19 Total Defense in the NCAA against UGA’s Number 24 Total Offense - which you break down to just Knowshon Moreno.
Good Luck Nerds and Nerds’ Coddling AJ-C beat-writer.
In case you have FAILED to ADMIT it, Tech’s Passing Offense is Number 116 of 119 teams all season long.
UGA’s Passing Offense is Number 19 in the nation, not Number 116 like Tech’s is.
Which is why UGA’s Offense is Number 24 Total Offense and Tech’s only the Number 53 Total Offense.
THIS GAME BOILS DOWN TO GEORGIA TECH HAS NO MATTHEW STAFFORD, MOHAMED MASSAQUOI, AND AJ GREEN.
Your Starting Cornerback is NOT PLAYING IN THIS GAME because he is OUT ON $40,000 BAIL on a charge of RAPE.
His name is Jerrard Tarrant.
That is why you are going to lose this game.
Georgia Tech has NOT been ranked ahead of UGA in the Final AP Poll the entire Coach Richt Era.
Your season is no where near as impressive as UGA’s.

The days of Homer Rice, Whack Hyder, Bobby Dodd and previous Gentlemen of Sports at the Georgia Institute of Technology and their Academics no longer exist as an advantage for Georgia Tech in this Rivalry.
Tech used to claim 6 National Championships in Football, according to the Official NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records Book with all those same Polls the same who have listed UGA in the same NCAA Football Records Book with 6 National Championships too.
Only Tech has Never Been ranked National Champion by the Final AP Poll which now this season, has UGA listed in their up-coming Final AP Poll Top 25 for the Record-Setting 12th Consecutive Season which no other football program in America has accomplished the Last Now 12 Consecutive Years.
Listening to Tech fans (both of them) talk about Academics when we have a football game to play this Saturday morning, is a riot. Remind me again which team it is who Lost 6 Football Scholarships 2007-2008 for Academic Cheating. That’s Tech.
Which football team it is who has the Worse Academic Progress Rate (APR.) That’s Tech again this season as it was too last season.
Which team it is who played Reuben Houston against us right directly after that same week he did an interview with the AJ-C stating that he was trying to set up a drug deal on the campus of Georgia Tech for 93 lbs. of drugs with his kid on his lap when he jumped from the van seeing the Campus Security behind him. That’s Tech.
Next, you will tell us you are going to play Jerrard Tarrant, out on $40,000 bail for RAPE , who is your Starting Cornerback for Paul Johnson this season. That’s Tech.
Paul Johnson hired Little Joey Hamilton as his Assistant Director of Player Personnel. How sweet. Spends his first (and only) paycheck on drugs, gets so drunk he “couldn’t even stand up,” gets in an accident driving, leaves the scene, is caught a few minutes later on campus still with the drugs in his ashtray and open container. That’s Tech.
It doesn’t get any better than this, does it ?

To discuss the Academics of your football team. That’s what Tech wants to discuss, believe it or not.
Tech is harder because more of them flunk out at Tech.
Ha ha ha.
Heard it all now.
Try recruiting football players who don’t get caught up in the drug deals down there in the slums of Atlanta where your “campus” is, who can do the work down there and don’t Lose to Number 33 Virginia Tech, Number 34 North Carolina and Number 51 Virginia in the latest BCS Standings while we Lost to only Number 1 Alabama and Number 2 Florida.
Why is Tech Number 22 and UGA Number 11 ?
That answer is because Tech Lost to 3 Unranked Teams and UGA to only Number 1 and Number 2.
Because UGA has the Number 24 NCAA Total Offense and the Number 23 NCAA Total Defense against the Nation’s Number 1 Official NCAA Strength of Schedule, while Tech has the Number 53 NCAA Total Offense and the Number 19 NCAA Total Defense against a schedule not Ranked in the Top 25 of the Official NCAA SoS.
Oh, this is a cyclical series now-a-days, the AJ-C surmises this week.
B.S.
Since 1991, UGA has Won Two (2) Seven (7-Game) Winning Streaks against Tech. Tech has Lost 14 of the last 17 games.
I will not even bother telling you your 3 “wins” in the last 17 years all 3 cost you NCAA Major Infractions Database FOOTBALL PROBATION. That’s Tech.
Then, that entire football staff MADE UP THEIR ENTIRE RESUMES. That’s Tech.
Your attendance languishes down there with 49,000 showing up and your fans (both of them) come running on every blog here on the Internet saying some hockey game is the only reason why your washed out white-out in the last game was only one-third white anyway. That’s Tech.

Why is it that your “student-athlete” MICHAEL HUTTS died of heroin overdose when his Dad and his Tech roommate, both, said that it was known that he was doing heroin this year. Georgia Tech tried to cover that up by not allowing the Tech roommate of Michael Hutts play any more games at all after he said that. That’s Tech now-a-days.
Trey Dunmon was thrown out of the last football game for Georgia Tech for intentionally trying to injure an UGA football player last year, our Linebacker now in the NFL with 50 other former Bulldogs, Brandon Miller. That’s Tech.
It has been a year from Hell for the Georgia Institute of Technology, this year. And, the Gentlemen of Georgia Tech’s past, are LONG GONE. Oh my, how the Mighty have fallen.
And, you come in here like you have the bragging rights. That’s Tech.
The Tech fans are Known to Be in Fact the Dead Last Worst Football Fans in the Entire NATION throwing debris at the players, carrying horrid signs and acting like thugs from the slums of an inner-city which has passed you by. You have 27 percent women on your campus and 41 percent Asian. That’s Tech.
Tech cannot recruit its way out of a wet paper bag any longer with all this bad publicity, but you cannot even begin to try to address any of the bad publicity.
BOTH of you Tech fans.
No one could write such an Opening that you want to discuss the Academics at Georgia Tech.
Your school president, athletics director and football coach were all 3 run out of town on a rail for the Academics of your football team.
And, you come running in here wanting to discuss what ? Your Academics of your football team ?
Choose your point in this post and let’s have at this discussion you state you want to have, both of you Tech fans.
Are Tech not the Gentlemen of the Past any longer ?

Paul Johnson’s Division 1-A (Bowl Subdivision Record at Navy 6 Years ) :
Against Ranked Football Teams, like the 1 he faces Saturday morning :
2007 :
LOST to Number 15 Rutgers 24-41.
Rutgers ended up NOT a Top 25 team in the Final AP Poll.
2006 :
LOST to Number 24 Rutgers 0-34.
LOST to Number 11 Notre Dame 14-38.
LOST to Number 23 Boston College.
Rutgers ended up Number 12 in the Final AP Poll.
Notre Dame ended up Number 17 in the Final AP Poll.
Boston College ended up Number 20 in the Final AP Poll.
2005 :
LOST to Number 7 Notre Dame 21-42.
Notre Dame ended up Number 9 in the Final AP Poll.
2004 :
Played NOT 1 ranked football team.
2003 :
LOST to Number 25 TCU 3-17.
TCU ended up Number 25 in the Final AP Poll.
2002 :
LOST to Number 21 NC State 19-65.
LOST to Number 9 Notre Dame.
NC State ended up Number 12 in the Final AP Poll.
Notre Dame ended up Number 17 in the Final AP Poll.
From 2002 to 2007, six years, Paul Johnson did not play any other Final AP Poll Top 25 team, nor ranked team at the time of the game other than just these 8 games in 6 years at NAVY.
Paul Johnson’s record against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams in 6 years at NAVY was Zero Wins and 7 Losses.
The highest ranked team in the Final AP Poll that Paul Johnson has even played in all his games in the Bowl Subdivision (1-A) is Number 9 Notre Dame. That happened twice and Paul Johnson LOST both.
In 6 years at NAVY, Paul Johnson played exactly eight (8) ranked football teams, and LOST every single solitary game. 1 of those 8 ranked teams at game time, ended up NOT in the Final AP Poll Top 25 and that was Rutgers Last Year who Paul Johnson Lost to.
But, don’t get me off on a discussion about Un-Ranked Teams in the Final AP Polls that Paul Johnson LOST to because that number is 26 (twenty-six) including Number 33 Virginia Tech today, Number 34 North Carolina and Number 51 Virginia this season.
26 Losses in Seven (7) Seasons for Paul Johnson to Un-Ranked Teams, including this season.
Paul Johnson is 0 Wins and 7 Losses against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams.
Paul Johnson also has 26 Losses against Un-Ranked Teams in the Final AP Poll.
Boston College is slated to play LSU in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, and The SEC will continue to Rule the ACC, knocking Boston College out of the Final AP Poll Top 25 no matter what a Lousy Maryland team does against them this week.
Georgia Tech is slated for something called the Congressional Bowl 20 December 2008, some 13 days before the Georgia Bulldogs play in the New Year’s Day $4.25 million dollar payout CapitalOne Citrus Bowl in Tampa. The Congressional Bowl has a payout which will not cover the expenses for sending the team who has Lost to 3 Un-Ranked Teams, and whose Paul Johnson has NEVER beat a Final AP Poll Top 25 team.
