Smackdown

A little rest did wonders.

In dismantling Miami 41-23 before a national TV audience, Tech looked like a totally different team than the one that lost at North Carolina 12 days ago.

Jonathan Dwyer, Roddy Jones and Lucas Cox ran wild. The 0-line, particularly the right side, opened up huge holes. And QB Josh Nesbitt gutted it out on a bad ankle. His third-quarter touchdown run — on 4th-and-1 — pretty much sealed the win at 34-10.

The defense, already without DT Vance Walker and CB Jahi Word-Daniels, lost LB Sedric Griffin and S Dominique Reese early to knee injuries. But the ACC’s stingiest unit played a terrific first half.

Michael Johnson’s interception return for a touchdown, on a short slant route, made it 10-0 Tech early in the second quarter. It was Johnson’s first career INT. Then Rashaad Reid picked off Jacory Harris.

Miami kicked a field goal with six minutes to go before halftime.

But on Tech’s next offensive play, Jonathan Dwyer took it the distance. He broke two tackles on the 58-yard TD. That put the ACC’s leading rusher over 100 yards for the 8th time this year.

Dwyer dragged defenders into the end zone on his next score. It was 24-3 at the half.

This emphatic win not only keeps Tech alive for the ACC title. It had to impress the reps from the Chick-fil-A, the Gator and the Champs Sports bowls.

And don’t you think it gives Tech a lot of momentum heading into Athens?

Very impressive performance, tonight. This gives us a ton of confidence going into Athens. Way to go Jackets, celebrate and get ready for Georgia week. I am ten times more confident going into Athens this years than I ever was the past 3 or 4 years. Lets get healthy, lets get focused and lets take care of business.

I’ll bet even Jack G liked the perfect option tonight (even though JShaw did make one booboo on an ill timed pitch).

Paul Johnson is a baaaaad man, and a great coach!

Now, please get our key players as healthy as possible. We need Word-Daniels, Walker, Griffin, Reese, and Dwyer back quickly.

I don’t know if we will beat the mutts this year, but I know we can, and I know they know we can. This is great!! If the mutts win, it will be their last for a long time. Let’s hope that last year’s win was their last for a long time.

Go NC State! Go Clemson! and Go Duke!!

Mr. DAN: Please make sure Coach Johnson is happy!! He needs to retire as the Yellow Jacket coach after 20 or so years of success.

Hey UGAy FANS: Maybe you should try a whiteout instead of a blackout? I think it works a little better. All you rednecks must be worried after watching GT dominate Miami. As far as Knowshon, he suxs. Dwyer is much better and it will show next week. Get ready for a azz kickin between your crappy redneck hedges. Forget the Gator Bowl, Forget the Chick-fil-a bowl, beat UGA, get to the best post season bowl with a team that is exciting and playing its best football at the end of the season!

Besides the idiots at the Gator Bowl want to bring in FSU who will have 5 losses after FSU gets whacked by either Maryland or most certainly Florida. And the opponent the Gator Bowl wants the ACC to play? a 4 loss Notre Dame who will have 5 losses on it by the time it gets done playing USC.

If anything Tech fans, pray for Chick-fil-a, but at 5-3 in the ACC, at least we will not be sent to the Emerald Bowl or Smurf Turf this year!

this is what weve wanted all year. Good O-line play and limit turnovers and we knew we’d win. That’s what we did and if we use the same formula next week we’ll see a lot of the same

Great Win! Congratulations to CPJ, his staff, and the team for an outstanding performance. This season is already a big success, but a win over the puppie dogs would be the crown jewel.

The dogs have a great deal of talent. We’ll see if they have the patience and discipline necessary to stop the spread option running on all cylinders. Lets get some guys healthy and see what happens.

I can’t wait until we get these guys runinng behind a healthy offensive line. Go Jackets and THWG

Realpuppy-Tech’s front line is a lot better than the dogs offensive guys and all dawg nation knows that-The truth of the matter is that all these “young” guys you refer to now have almost a whole season under there belt-oh yeah I forgot-TECH starts 16 of those “young” guys. UGA has not stopped anyone with the defense this year and that is true all I’ve seen all year FIRE Wille. Truth be told we may have struggled but UGA escaped both KY and Auburn and were lucky to get out with a win-I look for Stafford to be on the ground a few times come Saturday-AND just like Tech Fans-NO dog fans thought they would be 8-3 coming into the game on the 29th-oh yeah don’t talk to much about conferences- Everyone seems to love the Sargin Power Rankings- Big XII-ACC- and SEC- The dogs have not won big all year so what makes dog fans say that now is beyond me-Don’t bring up LSU-they almost lost to TROY- yeah I know Tech beat GW 10-7. It will be a great game and IF we play like we did tonight-the Jackets will win-

The UGA defense is a joke. Ours is not. IT will be a high scoring game, but our Option will wear your D down, while ours stays nice and fresh. GT will own TOP, and the pups will be left with memories of the last 7 years and nothing else.

By GT GRAD

November 21, 2008 12:32 AM | Link to this

GT beat Miami MUCH MUCH easier than Florida could manage (remember the Miami vs. Florida game was very close well into the 4th quarter).

GT dominated Mississippi State in a manner that none of the SEC teams could even fathom.

Several bloggers have posted obnoxious comments indicating GT would not even be competitive in the SEC. It amazes me that so many SEC and UGA fans continue to claim GT and the ACC is weak even with so many facts to the contrary; GT is a much smaller school with a huge disadvantage in recruiting; however, the GT vs. UGA games are almost always very close. Even the past 7 games……..GT has lost the last 7, but 6 of these 7 games were very close. I was at 2 games where most of the UGA fans thought they were going to lose late into the 4th quarter (Reggie Ball lost both games for GT; UGA was given those 2 wins by subpar QB play). If UGA is supposedly SOOOO dominant and GT is supposedly SOOOO weak, how could this happen? Think about it. You will see what I mean unless you are too biased and ignorant to consider anything which does not support your inflated opinion of the UGA football team.

Important Fact: GT still holds the all-time record of 8 in a row. I hope we prevent UGA from winning 8 in a row, but I feel fairly confident that UGA will not win 9 in a row based on what I have seen so far this season at GT and UGA. As a GT fan, I sincerely hope we stop the current streak at 7!

Don’t be too surprised if GT starts to beat up on UGA like Florida does each and every year. Remember, you heard it hear first from some guy who uses the handle GT GRAD!

The future of the GT Football Program is VERY bright indeed!

Go GT!

I hope we dominate UGA and handle the victory like a class act with integrity!

Great game for Tech. Johnson’s strategy the first three plays opened up the option the rest of the game it seemed. It let Miami know we have reverses and passes in store. Just wait until our passing game gets clicking. This offensive line played great as well as all facets. It’s interesting to watch Johnson’s option run varied options to keep defenses somewhat off balance. But the view here was Miami did’nt stack the deck because they had to protect the short pass and the reverses. The defense also play great. 2nd most rushing yards ever against Miami.

Georgia doesn’t hate Tech as much as Tech hates Georgia because the nerds are such a non issue to us. When you spend 7 years in a row beating someone, you tend to kind of let them slip out of your mind! I think it’s funny to see the usual happening though… you don’t EVER see Nerd fans anywhere, until they win a game or two, then all ten of them come crawling out of nowhere. Why do I dislike UGA? Because EVERY YEAR everyone MASSIVELY overrates them And they are from the SEC which EVERY YEAR people massive overrate.

If the SEC had a season where a bunch of teams had five and three records it would be instantly touted as evidence of how “Tough and competitive’ the conference was. If the ACC had undefeated and one loss teams in conference record at the top, it would be claimed it was evidence of not having depth. The SEC is like the teacher’s pet. They get a free pass, no matter what.

I will sat on the sidelies watching the eejit and the clown make funny faces while the jacket offense confuses them. Mediocre Stafford will not perform up to the hpye. Man, you nerds from that trade school on North Avenue sure are making AND drinking the Kool-Aid after your “big” win over The U. Let’s compare our teams respective losses: the nerds lost to VT, UVA and NC (only ranked team at #25). The DAWGS, on the other hand, lost to #1 Alabama and #3 Florida, one of whom will be playing for the National Championship. Oh, and let’s not forget that the nerds still had 8,000 tickets left for their “big” game last night and that trade school on North Avenue is the first one in NCAA history to actually TEAR DOWN seats in their stadium after a CO-national championship (which was awarded by a poll that no longer exists). The nerds will get beat like a rented mule by the DAWGS and the streak extends to 8 in a row. As a closing remark, I would like to note that when the ESPN cameras scanned the student section last night the women looked either like talent scouts for a cemetery or like they needed to be hosed down and fed some peanuts after the game!!! One thing you people need to remember is that that Oline is missing two starting tackles. For the most part outstanding job upfront. Where as UGAg makes excuses about their Oline tech just keeps chugging along. There is a huge drop in talent level from first to second string especially on the D line. I was one of the posters who said CPJ was great hire. I was a huge Ga Southern fan when Erk started football again at GSU. It was CPJ who installed this offense there and it immediately became unstoppable. They destroyed highly favored teams in the 1AA playoffs. I also followed CPJ’s turnaround of Hawaii and Navy. With good athletes this offenese can be great, with great athletes this offense will be unstoppable. It was nice to hear informed announcers recognize that this isn’t about three yards and pile of dust run but relies on the big play when defenders discipline breaks down. You think it’s working now, wait when the QB grasps the reads as second nature…… you aint seen nothing yet.

I’ve been giving the O-line a hard time all season. So I must give them a shout out after last night. By far the best game they and the teams played all year. These long run depend on more than O-line though. The receivers blocking down field is huge also. Great game Jackets.

To hell with Georgia!

realdawg, Tech will show what a running game is all about. Other than Bama and the Gators there’s not that much in the SEC so again you show what little you know. You and the rest of ugay fans surpise me talking trash after being taking to the woodshed twice. Close your eyes say goodnight and remember there’s next year.

Hey Tech fans:

A few observations from a “non-redneck-used to be wealthy until the DOW dropped below 9000” UGA fan:

  1. You are a competitive football team again. Thank goodness! It gets pretty boring when GT is down for so many years. Time to get the rivalry cranking once again.

  2. Miami is the most poorly coached, undisciplined team I have seen in a long time.

  3. Next week ought to be alot of fun. I can’t wait. I think both teams will be focused and prepared. It should really be fun to watch.

CORRECTION: UGA didn’t “lose” to Alabama and Florida… they were HUMILIATED by those teams on national TV! By the way, Miami would beat both Kentucky and Auburn whom the dawgs barely beat. GT waxed the Canes.

Why do Georgia fans act like they are going to roll through Georgia Tech. They haven’t rolled through GT in like 6 years, all the other games were really hard fought. In fact, Georgia hasn’t blown anybody out all year. I think it’s safe to say GT wouldn’t have struggled with Vandy, KY, Aub, TN, and SC the way Georgia did. They are about to get exposed…again.

Folks, great win for the Jackets program at a great time. Very very impressive.

Notre Dame is a poor football team and not deserving of a Gator Bid at this point. Very doubtful the Gator will take them this year. That is if they want to hold on to what little credibility they have left.

VT looks to have the huge upper hand now to the big game in Tampa. I think FSU beats Maryland to get to Tampa. Almost certainly the loser of that game will go to the Chicfila bowl. The Gator looks to be the spot GT will land. My guess is that a Big 12 team (perhaps Ok.State) will be the opponent unless Notre Dame upsets USC.

GT45 UGA will be ready. As for who has had the “better” season, I’d say 9-2 trumps 8-3. How about who has exceeded expectations? GT wins that one, hands down. Your team has come through a lot of adversity and should be congratulated for your success this year. Be happy with it because even the most die-hard Jackets would not have envisioned this for your team.

Why don’t we do away with all the predictions and smack talk on these blogs and let the teams play the game to see who wins. I just hope both teams bring their A-game and we can finally agree on which was the best team in this year’s battle.

See you in Athens!

I went to the game last night, luckily I got a free ticket. It kind of reminded me of going to a high school game with all of the empty seats. What a terrible showing for what was such an important game for Tech. Yes, the option looked very good last night. But you played a very bad Miami team with no talent. Georgia will drop 40 on GT this year. How bout you girls sell out your games when it counts. UGA has only two losses and they were to the #1 and #3 teams in the country. Seriously, you guys lost to UNC, VT and VA and only scored 10 points on Gardner-Web. Come on guys, be reasonable. You will loose again Saturday. Go DAWGS!

Did Snapshot just brag about hanging out in the library? I must be on the wrong site. I am literate and love reading…..the AJC’s cover page dressed in RED! Same ole’ Jackets with a different coach. You are better but you still don’t understand that, in college football, you don’t brag about losing 3 games in your conference and still being able to win it. You are right that the SEC is not as strong this year…we only have two of the top four Nationally ranked teams…I don’t recall any of the ACC teams in the top 21! As a matter of fact, that LSU team that you bash as being pathetic, is ranked higher than the best ACC team…even Ball State is ranked higher. Go figure. You guys should Yellow Out next time. That looked like a small Klan rally last night!

Dawghater, Your reference to UGAy exposes your homophobic prejudice and makes you a bigger redneck than the Georgia fans that you attempt to ridicule. The ACC and Miami is a lot different than the SEC and Georgia. You should be proud of your Tech team and coach, but calling people names isn’t going to help you beat Georgia. Perhaps you are a “closet” fan yourself.

Awesome win. When can we get an injury update? Last night I though Coach PJ was gonna have to go into the student section and ask if there was anybody up there who’d played any high school ball…if we don’t get Word-Daniels back, UGA’s receivers are going to carve us up like the proverbial Thanksgiving turkey. tech looked great last night, and it looks like it will be a great game in athens next weekend. but don’t you guys feel just a little bit hypocritical? i mean, after uga had their blackout and got blasted by bama, all the gt fans were saying how stupid it is to call for a blackout. some even made these comments last year after the auburn and hawaii games. well, the whiteout is the same freakin’ thing. all in all, i think anything that brings the fans and the team together and gets everyone pumped up is a good thing, i just think a lot of tech fans have a very short memory on this point.

The week after the Tech/Clemson game I was listening to one of the morning radio show announcers on the Clemson flagship station in SC. I won’t give his name because he doesn’t deserve any publicity. He stated that Paul Johnson’s triple option was “high school stuff” and Paul would never win at BCS level with the TO. You can see the TO getting better and better. One thing I was glad to see PJ do last night was start out with some passes to loosen up the defense, it seemed to work well. The Jackets will come out against the Dawgs fighting like the Barbarians going after the Romans. Hopefully, we get a win in Athens to cap off an unexpected great first year for PJ and the young Ramblin Wreck.

While viewing the Tech vs Miami (FL) game one of the announcers let it slip that GT only has a 75 man squad. Is 85 the full complement? CG couldn’t keep Tech academically honest during his watch. If CPJ and GT can get some injuries and ailments mended, UGAY will have a fight on its hands. But if all the new sprains and hurts take hold at GT, the Jackets will be hard pressed to resist for the full 60 minutes.

Some of these comments confirm my feelings toward Tech grads with the “holier than thou” and UGAY crapola. You looked good last night against a young miami team with no offense. Congrats.

Now you will be facing 4 stars of which 2 are projected very high in the next draft. Little bit different animal.

Should be high scoring like 35-31. If you don’t get healthier on the defense side of things, UGA will light you up. Of course we have WM to even things out which is why it will be like an arena league game.

Should be fun.

ROFL! You Tech weenies kill me with your naive hope and false bravado. It brings to mind an old Peter Sellers movie by the name of “The Mouse That Roared”. What gives you nerds any reason to believe or even hope you can beat a top tier SEC team such as my DAWGS in our house just because you’ve beaten a few 2nd rate ACC teams and squeaked by Gardner-Webb this year? Georgia has a history of giving up double digit points in the 1st half to most of the wishbone wannabe teams it’s faced in recent memory, but the 2nd half always tells the tale when ‘boners are worn down and Georgia runs away with it. NO SIR-EE, BUMBLEBEE!! NOT IN OUR HOUSE !

By GSU Eagle

As a Georgia Southern alum, I can assure you that UGA does NOT defend the triple option well. Four years ago when the Eagles brought that “unique” offense to Athens, GSU put 28 points on the board. Eight years ago, I watched Adrian Peterson, the one now with the Chicago Bears, rushed for 152 yards against a Dawgs D that had a slew of NFL draftees. In short, UGA had been remember to play assignment football when it plays Tech.

Anyone that argues about Georgia struggling in road games against Auburn and Kentucky must not have been among the 30,000 in attendance against Gardner-Webb. Sorry, but you cannot make that argument when you have to block a field goal to prevent overtime against an FCS opponent with a losing record.

Be happy to get a win any time you get it.

Hey G-Dawgchitman: Your team suxs azz! The SEC is down this year with the exception of UF, which kicked your azzes and Bama, which did the same. Everyone else sucks. Look it up and you will see that the ACC is ranked ahead of your almighty SEC, Sorry Education Conference in football man. 17% graduation rate, preseason #1. One would think with a graduation rate of 17% you would field a good football team. Also, I saw a news conference where they stated that Knowshon was going to win the Heisman.
