Duke no match for Tech

The defense was smothering. Jonathan Dwyer was overpowering. Demaryius Thomas was ridiculous. And Tech is 4-1, 2-1 in the ACC, after another dominating performance at home.

The final was 27-0.

Duke punted the first eight times it had the ball, then failed to convert a desperation 4th down.

With QB Josh Nesbitt sidelined, Dwyer and Thomas stepped up with their best games of the season.

Tech dominated time of possession throughout but led just 3-0 at halftime.

The Jackets wasted a beautiful opening drive when Jaybo Shaw and Dwyer failed to connect on a handoff and Duke recovered the fumble at its own 9.

But with Thomas catching five balls and Dwyer running for 101 yards in the first half alone, Tech kept moving the chains.

Tech went 1-for-2 on 4th downs in the half, then CPJ elected to kick a 20-yard field goal instead of going a third time.

CPJ wanted to go for it again on the first drive of the second half, but a false start on David Brown forced a punt.

No matter. The Blue Devils’ no-huddle offense couldn’t do anything against Tech’s defense. In fact, in the third quarter, Duke had minus 1 yard of total offense.

When Roddy Jones scored on a 4-yard TD run — following a pass interference call drawn by Thomas — to make it 10-0, the game was basically over. Duke might not have scored that many points in eight quarters against Tech.

The run defense was outstanding. And whenever Duke completed a quick out or a screen, the secondary was there to keep it to a minimal gain.

Tech should break into the Top 25 after this performance.

Duke has been a nice story this season. Tech looks like the real deal.

We passed for more yards than we ran today, which is scary. Granted it was all to one reciever. I bet you could have made a lot of money taking the other side of bets that we wouldn’t have a 200 yard reciver in any single game this year.

Once again we dominate.

450 total yards, only gave up like 130, and 85 or so on the last two possessions against back ups.

Domination more then the score reflects.

Still to early to be ranked though.

I agree FJR!

Wow, the first half had a few let down and that old feeling was coming back, “Oh boy here we go again……NOT!” Great second half. Jaybo nice arm young man! Good to see the ball going down the field. Way to go Thomas and Dwyer! Thank you Defense, and all the Jackets for winning the game you should. Have a good week of Practices. I remain “Not Disappointed!”

We need to turn these red zone opportunities into TDs. I guarantee that UM, FSU, UNC, and UGA are not going to get worn down like Duke did today.

Defense looked awesome, though!!!

GT has a killer instinct with CPJ that we never did with Chan the Man.

This defense is special guys. I predict that with this D, we will not lose a game in which we have less than 3 turnovers all year.

The offense is making fewer and fewer mistakes. The offense is going to be explosive, that’s a given. If they don’t make mistakes, some really good teams are going to have a lot of trouble stopping it.

Its nice to feel like your team’s destiny is in its own hands. If Tech plays mistake free football they’re going to win. With a certain former coach’s offense, that wasn’t the case. He played to not make mistakes and thus even when his teams didn’t make mistakes, they could still lose. CPJ has these guys playing to make plays and they can only lose if they make mistakes. I’d take the latter every day over the former.

Game ball to the defense. Impressive performance by a swarming ‘D’. On ‘O’…got to get better blocking to compete with the big boys. Nesbitt can rest another week, but GT will have to turn it up a notch or two on offense at Clemson and the remainder of the season after that.

Another solid win, but improvement needed.

Great win. Should of put together the plays a little better in the first half to get some points on the board. Seems that Duke’s punt/kick returns were not stopped - need some serious work there. Jaybo is looking good. Its going to be interesting when Nesbitt returns - I see a dual threat offense maybe?

This win shows two things with Paul Johnson. We will not overlook teams we should beat and the man can flat-out coach. Give Duke credit , they were prepared and they palyed tougher than recent Duke teams. But unlike Gailey , Paul Johnson made halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball and we put them away. The future is looking awesome !!!!

Gots to agree about that D. I don’t like to win games by defense alone but I can see future games that the defense will be the reason of a close win. I really would like to know our defense rating after this game. Its got to be top ten in passing and maybe now in rushing d. Duke’s 35 yards rushing was pathetic.

Teams will either choose to stop the option by bringing their safeties closer to the line, which Duke did very effectively, and play one on one against our wideouts, or keep those safeties back and let us chug the ball up the field 5 yards at a time. Either way we got the weapons to make teams pay! Great games by Dwyer, Thomas, Shaw, and all of our secondary. Go Jackets!!

Wow! Great win for Tech. The D line gets the game ball. They dominated all game long. Dwyer had another great game and what can you say about D. Thomas. He made some Calvin Johnson-esque catches out there.

Jaybo Shaw really battled out there. Watching it on TV he was wincing after every run in the 1st half. It was clear that Duke’s plan was to really work the freshmen over. The first half had to be frustrating for him, but he did a fine job taking the game over with the passes in the 2nd half.

Really impressed with Duke’s defense. Their line and LB’s played tough today and Jaybo will be sore tomorrow. I know we gashed them for some big gains, but they blew up a lot of our pitch plays 3-4 yards in the backfield. Cutcliff deserves a ton of credit for turning Duke into an actual football team.

As well as Jaybo played, I thought Tech missed Nesbitt’s size and explosiveness in the first half. I expect Nesbitt to play the first half against Gardner Webb and Shaw to play the 2nd half.

Can’t wait to see this team play again.

I must say the first half I thought how boring but it was almost as if Tech just kept throwing the jabs before the knockout in the second half. Tech just continues to grind it out. I was watching at a bar with Penn State fans, one said “I thought it was 3-0 at half” I said it was his repsonse “WOW” how do you stop them running and passing-I said this is the most this team has passed. I then told him with our back up qb. His response “SCARY”
This team is only going to continue to get better week by week-The Buzz is back at the flats!!!

We did look great all day today on defense (a little uncoordinated on offense, but only the first half). Seemed like once we were able to prove to our team we could score a TD, the flood gates opened.

My game ball still goes to the entire defense. I really believe they are the leg this entire team is standing on, and will continue to carry us through the rest of the season.

I feel as though we dominated, but I could tell this was definitely a different Duke than what we’ve seen in recent years (their offense needs some major work). They really impressed me on thier defensive secondary and their special teams - felt like we couldn’t get a punt return all day!

This is the kind of game (under Chan Gailey) we would have played conservatively.. and possibly lost. The defense was amazing!! Which is a Godsend, because the offense needed time to catch up.. which every week it looks like we’re adding a new wrinkle, and getting closer to Paul Johnson type offenses of past. Jaybo played his heart out, got to hand it to the kid. We definitely missed Nesbitt’s explosiveness - but Jaybo did what we needed him to do - mange the offense. Having a capable backup is worth its weight in gold. Over time, our offense is only going to get better. I think we’re top 20-30 right now.. Clemson game will tell us a lot. Remember our toughest games are at the end. But, love the results!!

Last year’s team would not have regrouped at halftime the way we did today. Last year we would have hung our heads and been in a fight with an inferior team all the way till the end. CPJ continues to roll. Give the experienced Duke team credit in the first half, but GT is for real.

I realize we still have a ways to go, but realize this win was with a true freshman in his first start. Nesbitt is a stud, and when we have both of our top weapons in the backfield, this offense will continue to be very difficult to stop.

Also, everyone saw today that Bay Bay is also a great athlete, and another potent weapon. Things are looking great on the flats.

This is about the AJC’s coverage, on-line anyway.

For those Tech fans out-of-state who must depend on on-line coverage, the AJC repeatedly disappoints. The Raleigh newspaper had a story up within minutes of the game’s end, when AJC had only the score-by-quarters posted, and a headline saying Tech won. As of this minute — 5:05 p.m. — if you want to see stats and agate, you have to go to ESPN.

It ain’t like it’s rocket science, since student assistants compile all the stats and do a play-by-play narrative. I know things are bad at the AJC, but geez. If things are going online, then the paper needs to get really serious about its intent.

S. Carolina isn’t terrible. That was an okay win. They have a pretty great defense and they just beat Ole Miss on the road, the same ole miss that beat Florida in the swamp. So as much as I’d like to discredit UGA’s wins, calling S. Carolina “terrible” is just ignorant. Now that they got Kenny McKinley back, I think they’ll finally get their offense together, as they put up a lot of yards on a decent Ole Miss defense today.

I’d rate the South Carolina win as ever so slightly better than the BC win.

Bottom line, both teams have 1 loss and neither has beaten a great team. UGA played one good/great team and got destroyed and GT hasn’t played a good/great team, but lost a close one to a good team. Thus they’ve had pretty similar results this far on the field.

SEC fans who are calling Miss St. the worst team in the SEC by far were singing an entirely different tune when they held Auburn to 3 points. I heard all about how that defense was going to destroy Tech’s gimmick offense after that week.

Has Tech proven a lot thus far? Not a lot. Have they shown a lot more than they were expected to show? Absolutely. Will CMR be scared s** to defend this team and have stafford decide to throw randomly into triple coverage? I bet you he will be.

Matt Stafford reminds me a lot of Rex Grossman and Jeff George. “I’ve got a cannon for an arm, I’m gonna throw the ball deep. F* the coverage, I have a cannon.”

Uh, college sports fan, that rebuilding Boston College is 4-1. That’s like referring to ‘Bama as rebuilding.

For all the crap that the ACC gets about being the poor, ugly sister, we have 7 teams with only one loss. 4 of those 7 losses came from a team that was or would be ranked. UF lost to an unranked team. UGA did lose to a ranked team, but looked just as bad as Clemson did. Clemson is probably the 4th best team in the ACC. How does that compare to the SEC?

Great Win TECH. This was the perfect game for us at this time. We worked on pass defense and we did an excellent job shutting Thad Lewis down. We also found out that Duke was better than we thought and they exposed the areas we need to work on. So this means we will be prepared for all of our upcoming opponents. This game is 90% mental and if you slack off you will be beaten. We moved the ball pretty well in the 1st half but a fumble and penalties stalled our drives. We adjusted and came out in the second half and kicked butt. Pitching a shut out is no easy task but we did it. A lot of people say oh its just Duke. But no one predicted a shut out. Jaybo. Gutsy game young man. The throws were on the money and its amazing what our receivers can do when they catch the ball on the run. I will say that CPJ should consider throwing more in his offense. I believe we could do some big things with the talent we have. I was just elated to see BeBe Have such a huge game. The kid deserved every bit of it. He has been busting his but and his payday has come. I hope he has many more games like this to come. Don’t change the offense CPJ just add a little more of this air attack to the package. Is Dwyer a beast or what? I still don’t understand why some may people what to predict loses that we may have. We are capable of winning out. With our D we are in every game. So, why would you predict a lose to anyone. I hope those people don’t live life that way. Anyway. Go Jackets!!! THWG

This was a feel-good game for the hometown team, but let’s not over-spin the outcome. Sure, Duke is a much better coached team than they were a year ago, but Tech beat an out-classed Blue Devils team on the relative strength of the two teams’ talent. Tech still has a long way to go to return to a level of regional and national competitiveness outside the 2008 ACC.

If your kids beat Georgia, they can prove me wrong and make a believer out of me. I dare them! It would be great for football in the state of Georgia to return some balance to the Tech-UGA rivalry.

People why do you keep trying to determine who is and who is not a strong or weak team. Look at the scores week in week out. Any given Saturday a team that looks unbeatable is beat. A blowout prediction ends up as an overtime win. Matchups are different every week. Navy scored 31 against Duke and lost. Scored 21 against Wake Forest and won. Alabama scored 31 at the half against UGA and only 14 after 3 quarters against Kentucky. Etc etc. Execution is what you judge a team on and attitude is what you believe in and and the Final Score is what you take to the bank.

What a fun game to attend!! We’ve heard a lot about CPJ’s offense, and how it won’t work against the “big boys”. However, today our coach showed that he is more than willing to adjust his offense and take what the defense is willing to give. For all his detractors after the MS State game, I’m glad Jaybo got another opportunity to show his arm strength and accuracy. Jaybo might be a half-step slower than Josh, but he runs the offense much better, reading the defense and getting the ball to the right man … and he gives our passing game a dimension that it lacked against BC and VA Tech.

After last season, my biggest disappointment was losing Tenuta as the defensive coordinator, but after the first five games of this season, I’m no longer worried about that. Great job defense!

great win for the team…

food for thought. we played almost as many qb’s in the msu game as chan mediocre gailey played in 7 years of mediocrity.

we know chan an cpj is no chan. thank god.

i think we have a chance at beating uga if we stay healhty.

our strenght which is our d front 4 plays to uga’s weakness … a young and inexperienced o line.

i think that….

st uga > gt

d gt > uga

ol gt = ug

o skill players uga > gt (due to new sytem)

if we can penetrate the oline of uga like we did today. i like our chances.

keep in mind that uga is a team that does not respect gt period. this will be huge imo.

here is hoping that we can beat uga before they play in the conference championship game. this would end their win streak and we could brag that gt still has the longest winning streak in betweeb the two schools at 8.

and if we beat them could we not claim the sec championship too ? that is if they win it.

im with mj. 11-1 is a POSSIBILITY not a probability.

I am happy to see Tech win again. The D continues to improve each game. The O did OK today but keep in mind that there was a freshman QB. He did well but still there is no substitute for experience. He will be a great one with time and experience. I think Nesbit was missed today but it is nice to know that Shaw was gaining valuable experience and will be able to step in when needed. Also we do have to give credit to the Duke defense. They were good and also had two outstanding linebackers. The beauty of CPJ’s offense is that you do what the defense gives you. Duke was determined to stop the run so, the passing game was good. People who criticize the offense or who are surprised that it needed passed for lots of yardage don’t understand it. GT will be a great football program in the near future thanks to CPJ and some good recurting.

A) gtfanThere is no way UGA makes it to the SEC championship, let alone wins it

B) Let’s not talk about winning the UGA game quite yet. Comparing them and us is one thing, talking about keys to victory to a game almost 2 months away is another matter entirely.

C) my bet is that we have a game with a lot of turnovers we lose that we shouldn’t. That possiblity decreases with each game, but I’d still characterize 11-1 as a very remote possibility.

Yes Tech is a good team now but there will be inconsistencies since they are young and inexperienced. That means their play could be inconsistent. I don’t want to see all these exeuberant fans thinking Tech will go 11-1 and if they don’t blame a darn good coach because he didn’t live up to your unreasonable expectations. Enjoy the winning but expect there could be dissapointments because of their youth. I have seen this all too often in my old life time. 1Jacket7,

11-1 is doable, in that it is possible. But its just not likely. The team is too vulnerable to tunrovers. And I am worried about the Clemson game. That’s jsut the kind of game that tommy bowden always wins. Just when you think he’s cooked, he beats a pretty good team and gets a contract extension.

Is 11-1 possible? Sure. Is it remotely likely? nah.

That being said, I’d say we have about as good of a chance as going 11-1 as UGA does. WHich is to say not much of one.

Lets just win the games in front of us and stop all this 11-1 nonsense. When we get to 10-1, we can talk about 11-1.

All I’m saying is if you go over board with your expectations, you and others like yourself won’t give CPJ the credit he deserves. I only want the best for the Tech program. Let’s give him a fair chance before you decide he should be 11-1. When you have 75 players at the fresh and soph level, lets just give them a chance to mature. Sorry I don’t meet your expections because I am older and have seen a lot more football than you have. Whatever makes you feel better— call me senile, demented, or alzhimered! I’ve just seen to many fans decide the talent is better than expected and then blame it on the coach went expections fail. CPJ is one heckuva coach. Just be patient and the glory will come. Yes, Shaws stats were good. All I have said is expect they won’t be consistent. Pray that they will. Just please don’t raise the bar too high and then be dissapointed and blame the coach. We have a great coach and a bunch of confident, committed players. We are a very fortunate student/alumni group right now.

Let’s enjoy. If we win out, we are 11-1; if we don’t, we don’t. As long as this team keeps playing sound fundamental and hustle football, we will have a reason to be proud and loud. Let’s fill BDS up and support these guys. They deserve it.

I promise that Clemson, FSU, NC, Miami, and yes, even Virg. are not going to lay down and let us win. We will have to earn those wins. And those are games we need to think about prior to UGAG.

I am so glad we have a coach that can make in-game adjustments. When one thing doesn’t work, he will try something else. Wow, what an astute idea. Too bad Chan never could seem to figure this out. But those days are behind us.

You missed a very pleasant day down on the Flats (as long as you brought your sunscreen).

Go to the games!

Not really mentioned here - but the officiating was terrible. In our favor, but still terrible.

Solid win. I am glad we are still ahead of where I thought we would be. Hopefully some up-downs will take care of what I hope was some off-week-induced sloppiness. Still, I am giddy as heck with the team’s effort.

Big Bug, Shaw may run it more smoothly but teams won’t respect his running. Duke was all over him all day, and it made the TO not work. Nesbitt may not be the best executioner but what he lacks in that department he makes up for in respect and big play ability.

Shaw not so much.

It is quite possible that Tech will not play a ranked team the remainder of the season (yes including the trailer dawgs). Tech could finish in the Top 10, and dawggies would still contend that Tech hasn’t beaten anyone yet. It would be tough for Georgie because we would have whipped their ‘neck arse.

Amen jabster.

It was embarassing at kick-off to see so many empty seats. Talk about uninspiring. With all of the enthusiasm on this board, we should be seeing a full house at our next game.

CPJ is The Man and this team is playing with purpose. Let’s support them.

I was really concerned in the first half and the first part of the 3rd qtr. It looked like Duke had figured out how to stop the triple option. Then CPJ figured it all out. He took what Duke was giving up and unleashed the passing attack which was awesome. It opened everything up. The defense, of course, was fantastic. I can’t wait until the Clemson game in Death Valley. I went there once and witnessed the John Dewberry led Jackets win one. Here’s to a repeat performance.

One thing an old friend & ex bulldog player once told me back in my gambling days was that after an injury layoff when a ball handler comes back he will have a case of fumbleitis. I have observed this to be generally true. Clemson is not the place for Nesbitt to get his groove back. I say if he lays it on the ground twice, yank him.

jaybo seemed to run just fine against smu.

  1. as the folks that really know fb have stated…. some of the problems were due to our o-line not jaybo.

2 duke had more experience playing d against our o than any other team we have played. give them some credit. jaybo sure looked better when our coach made some ajustments eh?

as far as jaybo vs josh go. josh is older and has had the chance to let his body mature an fill out. lets see how jaybo looks after a coulpe years in the weight room like josh.

that being said i do believe that josh is superior physically to jaybo but jaybo runs the o a bit better. i am happy to have both.

we havent had the luxury of having one top notch qb in almost 8 years let alone TWO.

I was on the ‘85 and ‘86 national champion teams at Ga. Southern The big plays you are seeing were the norm so get used to them. Of Course it was 1-AA (not Div. 11 by the way) but a good coach is a good coach .You will continue to see Dwyer have huge days, Did anyone notice Dukes backers were lined wide trying to take way the option pitch? So what did CPJ do run The “B” back or Dwyer. When the backers lined up tight then the option came open especially the lead option. I am so excited for Tech. Keep in mind we were considered to be UGA’s lil’ brother because When Southern started the program most of our coaches were from UGA Erk, Hugh Nall, Pat Douglas, etc. then Erk filled the off. coordinater position with CPJ. So thats the ironic thing CPJ is Erk’s protege and that tenacity was learned from Erk.Just ask CPJ. But I never liked (UGA)them anyway didnt like to be considered anybody’s lil Brother. I am a huge Tech fan now. CPJ, Coach Sewak, and Giff are like family. Who thought they would be 5-1 right now? To be frank Tech is not far from being undefeated. I know, I know its still premature to crown them the champs. But the Success is going to come from the long term and more importantly changing the culture from the previous adminsitration. You guys are fun to watch. Keep it up Coach!!

Hey UGALY Fans: Quit whining! Your schedule isn’t exactly tough. I mean you beat 4 teams to start the season that basically suck, then you lost to BAMA. Also, when you see Vandy on top of the SEC East, that’s scary and sad for your conference. Maybe they will beat you again for Homecoming. Maybe you will have another blackout? Maybe McCain/Palin win the election? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, but keep dreaming. I can tell you that many more losses are coming your way. You will be lucky to be eating a Chicken Sandwich in Atlanta. By the way, it’s kind of been quiet about your Heiman hopeful Knowshon? What happened? GO JACKETS!

Georgia Tech strength of schedule is Official NCAA SoS Number 46, and that counts all of your games all season long that you have played and that you will play.

UGA Number 1 SoS.

http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/2008/Internet/toughest%20schedule/fbs9gamescumm.pdf

The facts of the matter are that Vanderbilt is higher ranked than every single solitary ACC team.

Your conference sucks.

What you do against the likes of Duke, really concerns me. Right.

Duke, Jacksonville State, Mississippi State, Garner-Webb, Climpson Farmers, Miami of Florida, Virginia… Good Lord.

That’s 7 teams who between them have not won 9 games this season.

Why is it that Georgia Tech is NOT RANKED in ANY Poll while UGA is Top 10 in ALL Polls this morning ?

Try answering that ?

Because Vanderbilt would be the highest ranked team in the America’s Cupcake Conference.

Yet is the 6th highest ranked team in The SEC.

8 in a row.

I said after the last game that Shaw could run this offense better than any other QB. Most of the game Duke stuffed the run, and it was the excellent passing of Shaw that got Tech safe room. We know that Nesbitt is a better runner and a bigger fumbler, but he doesn’t pass accurately. I think going into next week, coach Johnson will have maybe his biggest offensive decision, go with the QB that has moved the offense better, or go with the QB that has the most physical skills. If he goes with Shaw, he establishes him as the starting QB, until he proves he can’t win with him. If he starts Nesbitt, he has a problem replacing him if he’s not hurt. I personally don’t believe in the idea that no one loses their job to injury, this is not the pros. However, since I don’t have a clue about Nesbitt’s psyche, you wonder if he would pout and create a problem on the team.

Mr. BuLLdawg… Half a season gone and you’ve only dropped 9 spots in those polls with four weak opponents and one beatdown from a good SEC team (emphasize good, not great). It probably won’t take as long for you to drop at least another 9 spots with the second half. Look on top of the SEC East…Is that Vandy sitting up there ? Go black yourself !

Or, why is that the AJ-C tries to cover up the RAPE charge against your FOOTBALL PLAYER ?

Jerrard Tarrant, your Starting Cornerback on this wondrous CUPCAKE playing football team, charged with RAPE. $40,000 bail on that one.

Or, little Joey Hamilton, your **Coach PAUL JOHNSON Associate Director of Player Personnel this year who took his 1st and ONLY paycheck from The Georgia Institute of Technology and got drunk, hit another, left the scene of the accident, could not even stand up, and left his drugs in his car when the Police did finally run him down.

Syed Haris Ahmed, Georgia Tech student, planning terror attack.

Just pull for your program, show up on gameday and support your team, and we’ll find out how far the Jackets have come when we got to Athens in November. For those who say that Nesbitt should return as the starting QB because of his experience, athleticism, or big-play ability, I urge you to look at the stats. Both young men played well and had fairly significant minutes against Jax State. At this point, Josh has played the entire games against BC and VA Tech, while Jaybo has played (almost) the entire games against MS State and Duke. If you look at the offensive performance since the Gamecocks games, you will see a remarkable difference.

In the games where Nesbitt was the only QB, Tech gained 622 yards of total offense, vs. 954 yards in Shaw’s two games. Nesbitt completed 11 of 21 passes for 182 yards, with 1 TD and 1 interception. In his opportunities, Shaw completed 12 of 21 passes for 273 yards with two TDs and 0 interceptions. Against BC and VT, Tech committed SEVEN turnovers vs. only one against MS and DU.

The one area where Josh seems to have a relative advantage over Jaybo is in rushing. Josh accumulated 201 yards in 43 rushing attempts, while Jaybo only gained 74 yards on 27 attempts. However, one could make the argument that Nesbitt might be too quick to keep the ball for himself rather than distributing it to one of his open teammates. Thus, while he has better personal statistics, the total team offense suffers.

I think Navigator is correct … if Nesbitt is healthy enough to return for Gardner Webb, then CPJ may have his toughest offensive decision of the season. Personally, I hope he’ll stick with the true freshman.

With the latest slight to the ACC by GT not being in the top 25 after showing they can be a dominant team…… its time for fellow fans to realize that no matter how good GT is…. even if they went undefeated next season or the year after….. no playoffs = NO SHOT at a national title.

We need a 8 team playoff with all the main conference champs, with 2 wildcards. Until this happens…. dont look for ANY ACC team to get enough respect to be “voted” into the big game!

It is great to see that teams with high academic standards such as Vandy, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, and Duke [even though they lost big Saturday] demonstrate that they can also play quality football. I know, in fact, that Tech cannot even recruit many of the high profile players in Georgia because they cannot meet the academic requirements. It is to their credit that they do as well as they do and even, occasionally, win championships.

I don’t understand it - why are they treating Tech like this? After all, GT beat Miss State 38-7; of which MS only lost to No.4 LSU by 10 (34-24) and Auburn by 1 point (3-2). What’s-up with that? Maybe because they aren’t some SEC darling? BTW - It looks as the SEC is way over blown this year - just look at UT (were they not in the Top 10 at the beginning - but lost big time to a PAC10 school who is going nowhere this year) - look at Auburn (almost beat by MSU and beat by Vandy). Georgia just barely beat SC (though SC beat themselves with a fumble in the end-zone and interception near the end-zone) - but SC barely beat Wofford (23-13) and UAB (26-13) - two very real powerhouses (NOT). Tech - once again - is robbed - but let’s see where they are by the end of the year.

Nice analysis saywhat….by this logic Houston is better than the nerds on north avenue…..Houston beat East Carolina who beat VT which beat the nerds….another reason to have a playoff system instead of the current system which is a beauty contest. Georgia Tech could play for the ACC championship in December, without having played a ranked opponent. Then they could join a team from the Big East (and other poor teams) in a BCS game. Meanwhile, either Mizzou or Oklahoma, Florida or LSU, Alabama or Georgia, Penn State or Ohio State will go to a second tier bowl. Even if we don’t have a playoff system, the BCS games should match the top 10 teams, as ranked by the coaches poll. Forget the small insignificant polls and the teams who refuse to schedule good competition, of which there are many.

There are instances where teams with a weak schedule (Boise State of 2006) deserve a BCS game. Coaches will know that. They will also know the Hawaiis of 2008 and the Ga Techs of 2009 are a product of their competition.

By KneeJerk

Realist, I somewhat agree, but why include UGA in that mix? What is the latest spin on Bama’s squeaker following the whooping of UGA. Kimbo Slice was about as impressive this weekend as UGA was last. Who has Penn State played that’s worth their salt? Ohio State as well? I think the jury is still out on LSU. The only SEC team that deserves to be in the top 10 is Bama. I remember thae SEC homers bragging that they had 5 schools in the top 10.

If you say that Tech hasn’t beaten anyone and therefore doesn’t belong in the top 25, you have to mention that UGA hasn’t beaten anyone, and by your logic, wouldn’t belong either. The problem is that UGA doesn’t belong on this comment board. The mutts lost to the only decent team they played…and lost bad…at home…with another gimmick blackout…If Tech doesn’t deserve to be ranked, you can’t logically make the arguement that UGA does.

I’m a UGA fan, but I am impressed with Tech’s progress. If they learn how to win, then they will be a tough out for a lot of teams. I still think my Dawgs can take them, but I do believe they deserve to be in the top 25.

I expect GT will only get better at executing their offense, with a couple of breaks and few injuries, I expect them to come into the annual brawl with a 9-2 or 8-3 record.

To my UGA kin, understand that it’s GOOD for GT to do well before playing us, it makes the rivalry more interesting and makes the win more significant.
