From your keyboard to Paul Johnson’s ears…

Coach Johnson answered Glenn’s question about the team’s progression and how far into the playbook they’ve gotten. He was more expansive with the first, less so with the second.

“I think we’re still a work in progress. I think at this point, we’ve kind of made progress every week. It remains to be seen, Will we make progress from the last game to this one, with taking the week off? That’s a good question. That’s why we play the games.

“I think our team has made some progress; we’re not close to being where we’d like to be. … We’re a lot better now than when we started, I think. We’re going to have to be. Our schedule’s gearing up that way, too.”

On the offense: “There’s always other things you can do. Will we do anything Saturday we haven’t done? I doubt it. It kind of is what it is.”

I’ll try to dig into this a little more.

All that matters is beating UGA. You were hired to beat UGA. 11-1 with a loss to UGA is failure.

Belichick visited PJ at least once at the Naval Academy. By the words of his last response, sounds like the Great Hooded One rubbed off on the young fella from Sylva a little too much.

No sense in digging deeper into our playbook against Duke and Gardner-Webb. Save the deeper plays for Clemson, FSU, and hopefully put aside a few pages to bring out for U[sic]GA.

I don’t know if CPJ plays chess or not; however, if he does, I would NOT want to play against him!

At this point, I think he has enough of the total offense installed to put The Jackets in a position to be able to win any game we play. The question, now, is less about what plays are available to call and more about when to call the available plays…. and CPJ is a Chess Master when it comes to that kind of strategy!

Go Jackets and God Bless!!

I’ll take 11-1, even if that 1 is uga. if they consider florida a bigger rival, we do not have to make that game any more important to us.

Just as an FYI, I wasn’t really expecting Coach Johnson to answer the question, maybe planting a little seed for Duke to start worrying about…

I say use as many plays as we need to to beat Duke. If we run the triple option 53 times and we win, I’m good. If we don’t run a single play twice and we win, I’m good with that too. By the time we get to week 6 of our schedule, we should have most of the playbook installed. Although, at some point I expect to see a reverse option.

All it takes to win is to score more points than your opponent. Let’s keep doing that.

We will beat Georgia, may not happen this year and Coach Johnson shouldn’t be punished with high expectations because he is turning a mediocre program around faster that anyone expected. One of the reasons why Georgia doesn’t do what people expect is because they have all these bandwagon people riding and distracting them from winning. The poor player gets to the stadium and it is a circus. Notice this year and last where the losses occurred for Georgia. Of course the player thinks he likes all this until he realizes he has a game on his hands and can’t concentrate on the business part of being a bulldog. And then you listen to the radio shows and it is a bunch of know it alls explaining to the world how stupid the decision to do this or that was all because the team has embarrassed the listener, who would have never shown his a* like that if he had known they were going to lose. Tech is lucky to have a coach like Johnson. He is leaving his best on the field every week. I can promise you there is no one in this community that wants to beat Georgia more than Johnson and has more ability to do it. The problem we have is we play them the last game of the season after they have had some humility, and it is hard beating a team like Georgia when they have come down to earth and the circus has left town. We can and will but I much rather play them on the first game when Sports Illustrated had done a number on their head and the fans are butt naked cocky. It must be great to be an Alabama fan this week. But you know they are thinking of the next SEC opponent and forgotten who Georgia is, so maybe playing them the last game of the year so you can enjoy it the whole year ain’t a bad idea after all.

You’re right GT. UGA can be like the Energizer Bunny. They take their lessons seriously. Defeats like that have a way of making them better and at the end of the day they finish in the top 10 again and again and again. Defeat seems to make them better. I too wish we played them 1st game of the year.

You’re right GT. 1st would be better. Right now UGA has forgotten Bama. They know if they take care of business they can get a rematch in the SEC title game. Richt is undefeated in those games and beat guess who to get revenge. Nick Saban. And we get to play them after they have gotten dead serious about the task at hand. I would much rather play them the 1st game. A residual of that is this blog crap talk would be over before it ever got started. Better for both teams. At some point I worry that the obsession with beating UGA will cost us a game with another opponent. The closer to that game we get the more the danger. They can’t afford to think about us with the gauntlett they have to run before us. That is probably advantage UGA.

anyone who accepts 1-11 with a win at UGA instead of a top 25 (or hopefully top 10 under CPJ) regardless of UGA is an idiot

The way they own you it might be better for that that bad case of pen&s envy you Tech fans have if you don’t consider them important anymore. It will end a lot of your pain and suffering for you for sure. Great idea!

I’d like us to move COFH off of Thanksgiving weekend so more Tech alums would be around for the game and not elsewhere in the country eating turkey sandwiches.

As a hardcore GT Basketball and football fan, i also am a fan of UGA football as well. It just makes sense to me to go for whatever team has a chance to win a national championship….this year thats UGA well see at the end of the season. Perhaps in 2 years i believe GT will be right there around the top 10 as well and may the best team win.

But for now…. RUN THE TABLE UGA…. get revenge on AL… and play in the national championship and represent Georgia!

And how come for every football recruit we possibly talk to theres a blog about it…. yet in the program thats most likely to win a national championship in the next few years……GT HOOPS…theres been very little mention of the #1 RECRUIT in the nation Derrick Favors?? Do yall realize we already have a solid top 10 recruiting class for 2009, and with the addition of South Atlantas Favors (the best big man to come out of Atlanta since Dwight Howard of the Magic) Well be a lock for #1 recruiting class of 09.

Coach I want to thank you. You have been like a massive dose of Viagra to what had become an impotent football team. Now if you could just do the same for our limp dic%ed fan base who can’t get it up long enough to actually attend a game you will truly be the messiah Tech has proclaimed you. Maybe the base needs to be given one of your famous tell it like it is tongue lashings. You know, the one about walking the walk instead of talking the talk. A huge percentage of the Tech fan base is nothing but talk.

Can someone explain what a reverse option is?

By Daniel

October 1, 2008 11:09 AM | Link to this

I think a reverse option is where everything starts in one direction and the QB can option the ball to an A back coming from the opposite side. I could be wrong though.

I do not know if we have left mediocrity, but I do know the play is more entertaining, and the hustle is up 200% The foundation is being laid for the players to win. Now, they have to learn how to be winners. That takes time and fan support, so get up off your bums and get buisy supporting them.

The best thing about this particular team is that they are young and really dont know any better. As this team grows over the next couple of seasons these players will realize how lucky they are to have a coach like Paul Johnson..

stand up Tech fans, be Proud

GO JACKETS!!!
