Hi Larry,
I gotta say its a pretty safe over/under. I still say over under GT points 38, assuming they succeed in making the BC D-line run after the ball all game thereby fatiguing them by the 4th quarter were GT will score 2 TD’s to seal the deal.
Can’t give BC more than 21 points on offense because they couldn’t score more than 21 last week against a weaker defense than GT’s.
I think you are right on cue with the sacks, although BC O-line is relatively young and with Michael Johnson, Derrick Morgan, and Vance Walker could do some damage to their O-line.
Turnovers, I think you are about right. I can guarantee you one thing though, I bet those guys DO NOT want to be the guy to turnover the ball. Johnson will become harsher and harsher for those mistakes as the year progresses.
I give Dwyer rushing 115, and Nesbit rushing 100. I also give Nesbit passing 150, I think CPJ will pass a little more in this game.
Either way, I feel good about Tech’s chances!!!!!
Give ‘em hell Jackets, Wreck ‘em!!!!!
Again, Nice to have you on board Larry! GOOO TECH!!!!!!

I know its dangerous to try to compare past games and apply it to the current situation. However, I don’t look at last years GT-BC game for comparison, I look at the BC-Navy bowl game from 2006. BC won 25-24 on a last second field goal. Some of the differences is that BC had Matt Ryan at the time and GT has more athletes than Navy had (albeit these athletes are younger). But I guess what I take from that is BC has the same defensive coordinator as it did in 2006 and Navy was able to rush for 322 yards in that game and actually outgained BC in total yards, 403 to 315. Does that really mean GT will run all over BC? Of course not. I just feel like it demonstrates that Paul Johnson’s offense can be competitive with someone like BC, plus Navy was not run over by BC’s offense. I believe GT has a better defense than Navy, even if they have all this inexperience. I think it will be a good game and will test GT for sure.

Ramblin Wrecker, I wish I had a dollar for every time I have seen a Tech fan trying to convince himself with “tech has better athletes” than Navy, therefore CPJ should roll, without mentioning that the competition is a hell of a lot stronger at this level than it was at Navy as well. All but 3 or 4 of the teams on tech’s schedule have better athletes than GT, and things being relative, CPJ is possibly going to have a harder time competing at this level than he ever did at Navy.

I could care less about Tech or UGA, but after watching the Tech and UGA replays on CSS, compared to UGA, Tech’s players look like they’re running in wet cement. UGA plays much faster than Tech. I suspect that when Tech encounters that kind of size and speed from any team that the result will be really ugly for that option offense.

Our best chance will be passing and side to side running with the option, as long as our O-line can make their blocks without being called for a chop block. That way we can wear down BC’s D-line.
We will definately find out how competative Tech will be in the Coastal Division this year. All-in-all it should be fun to watch and see how far they will have developed by the next home game against Mississippi State.

I wonder if Bobby, Tommy and TJ will be posting under the same name come 3:30 Saturday. My guess is they will probably be posting under some other name but talking the same game only about VT. TJ, GT losing by 21? We’ll see, just let them play the game. I’d understand if you are a fan of the opponent for that week. It is ok to predict rediculous routs then. I would wager quite alot that GT does not lose by 21. And if you truly think they will, then call up Vegas and put your money where your mouth is. Oh yeah, if forgot that half of your SS check goes towards your lot rental. What a punk. One more thing, to say Tech is rank #80 in the nation is just pure ignorance. That was a preseason poll which means nothing. Anybody remember Michigan or Tennessee’s preseason rank? Kind of pointless now, huh? GT will win Saturday and these punks on this blog will just post under a different name.

I hear the security guards at Boston College are going to frisk Jayboe Shaw down for whiskey bottles before they let him into the stadium Saturday.
Anyway Tech should get a beatdown by Boston College, Mississippi State, FSU, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, and Georgia.
Maybe by Clemson too if they have any talent up there and are embarrassed by their game with Alabama.
Tech should end up 6-6 in the All Cupcake Conference and be back in the Humanitarian Bowl for the ACC’s last tie in date to that bowl. That is unless Boise does not want them back.
Then it is the Emerald Nut Bowl again.
Love the uniforms. They look like crap.

Larry, for what its worth I don’t think you need to worry with carrying on the O/U tradition. I’d rather have your insights going into the game.
I’m really excited to see how our team does against ACC competition. On the road, against a staunch run defense is a tall order for the guys still learning the offense. I’m feeling optimistic. But one game (either way) isn’t going to dampen my enthusiasm for Tech’s future with CPJ. I sat 10 rows behind the bench last Thursday, and I saw more energy and coaching from him than from Chan in his entire Tech tenure. There are horses for courses, and CPJ is the right guy for us.

I’m a W&L grad (originally from Kentucky), so I don’t have a dog in the fight, but I have to make this comment after reading the posts on this blog regarding the intelligence of UGA/GT grads. I run a commercial credit team at a medium-sized bank in Atlanta, and I have 3 UGA grads and 2 GT grads working for me. All five are intelligent people. All 3 of the UGA grads are extremely personable, and 1 of the GT grads is pasasble in social situations (the other is not). All five have relatively equal quantitative skills. The UGA grads are hands down the better writers. Bottom line, among my experience as a supervisor, there is negligible difference in their mathematic aptitudes, and there is no contest among their communication skills. So what are all the tech people talking about regarding superiority?

Look at it this way Tech fans. At least when Boston College humiliates you this year it won’t be on television. Just remember that you aren’t in your own stadium this year. Larry - I think the most important determinant for the game will be turnover margin and points of turnovers.
I’m extending Tech turnover U/O to a Margin comparison.
If Tech is on the positive side, I think they have a good chance to win. If they are on the negative side, could be a rough day.
There are a lot of variables in this game that are difficult to anticipate. Thus, it will be interesting to watch.

Hey Ramblin Wrecker,
Good insight and analysis on the old BC-Navy game. That is the benchmark. The match ups to watch are the BC outside linebackers containing the QB on the option, and whether the GT defense can contain the faster BC running backs. I think the running games will be the key, now that Matt Ryan has moved south to Atlanta.
(I’m just amazed at the GT-UGA animosity. Must be a southern thing.)
