Seems like a good time to hit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m standing on the hill overlooking practice, and thinking, “Man, I haven’t seen any injured players yet in two-plus days.”
Of course, there hasn’t been any real contact yet, but the past couple years that I’ve been around you’d always see a smattering of players over on the side, “The Beach,” area as it has come to be called working out, stretching, doing whatever. By now, there would usually be some muscle pulls and the like keeping few players on the sideline.
But not so far. Is that because there are fewer injuries, or because players are more concerned that they can’t afford to miss time under a new coach? Are they sucking it up more?
And then I realize I don’t see senior David Brown, who has been working at No. 1 RT since mid-spring. R.-Fr. Clyde Yandell has been working there today, and sophomore Luke Snider, a walk-on from Norcross, behind him. I can’t find Brown anywhere. So I’ll check on that. EDIT: He’s at his grandfather’s funeral.
Also, although, I don’t see him out here, I just learned that backup FB Matt Kamp of Milton High, a junior, is out for the season with a lower leg injury.
So much for initial thoughts.
Quick hitters …
It’s more exciting out here when all the pads are on. And they’re not … yet.
Fr. A-back Marcus Wright can really run. He’s uber fast. But. He roasted safety Mario Edwards on a pattern straight up the seam, left Edwards literally spinning in his track, and a perfect pass was delivered. Wright dropped it. EDIT: he dropped a couple more later.
Fr. Tyler Melton keeps catching balls, and running nice routes. Paul Johnson was complimentary after practice. Said he’ll play this year.
Roddy Jones is almost always, maybe always always, one of the No. 1 A-backs. It appears to be that Greg Smith and Andrew Smith are splitting work at the other No. 1 A-back spot.
A.J. Smith has worked at No. 2 RG, and No. 1 LG, where Jason Hill continues to get most of the work.
It’s not quite as hot as Wednesday, but it ain’t air-conditioned, either.
S Morgan Burnett is wearing a soft cast on his left wrist. He broke it in the spring, and didn’t even know it. It bothered him long enough they checked, and it was broken. He anticipates wearing a soft cast when the season begins, too.
Practice is at 9:45 tomorrow, and the Great Jacket Encounter is at 3, kids festivities beginning outside the stadium on Callaway Plaza at 2. You can get autographs and pictures, etc. No charge for admission. Try to park in the Peters parking deck. The plan for players to wear the old uniforms and thereby keep the new ones in the dark until the Aug. 19 unveiling have been shelved. Players will be in the new unis. Maybe that has something to do with the fact new jerseys are already on sale in some places. Or, maybe not.
Coach Johnson on Wednesday mentioned a new depth chart coming out today. I’m told that does not necessarily mean it will be made available for public consumption. That remains unclear. EDIT: Not for public consumption.
More contact today, but not a lot, than Wednesday and Thursday. Players are in shells. Full gear Sunday or Monday.
Matt

The excitement with CPJ is much, MUCH higher this year than in years past under CCG.

Hey guys, Bob Stoops just booted Josh Jarboe! He’d be a perfect fit here at Tech.

The R-Jr B-Back out for the year is #46 Matt Kamp. Spoke with his mom this afternoon, and apparently they had planned on his having ankle surgery during the off-season, and the issues were worse than originally thought.
Good luck to Matt and all the young men in the White and Gold!!!
And it’s interesting to see the option reps being practiced on the Flats again.

ACtually, I am less excited this year than most. We don’t know how the CPJ system will work out (though I have read some stuff that is encouraging) and even if it works well, this fall is likely to be rough. We have now seen these new unis and they are of that new fangled design that Miami and VT wear that don’t look anywhere near as good as the classic design style we have had for years. Then, if we did not have enough question marks on our own side, we have to deal with the bunch in Athens with their number 1 ranking that came out. So I don’t find this to be a particularly exciting fall for now. Maybe things will take a turn come September.

I don’t think we need Mr. Jarboe on our team. Link

Who cares what Jarboe did. We need to win.

I agree TechGrad84. At least Jarboe didn’t push dope or rape somebody. Who cares when it’s a player like Jarboe. The end justifies the means if we ever want to beat those damn mutts again. Sign him CJ.

I don’t think a kid who couldn’t make it to the first game at OU would survive very long under CPJ either.

So we want someone who already has gun charges on the team? Yeah, I can just see that kid meshing with PJ.

Jarboe could have a second chance in Athens. They have no memory regarding character issues.

**The excitement of having a real college football coach instead of a NFL retread that turned out to be the worst coach in the history of the NCAA (as predicted in advance)is tremendous. The 6 year nightmare of historic proportions is over. Uga’s favorite Tech coach is long gone. Halleeeeedamlooooooyah. Thank God and Greyhound that Gailey is gone….FOREVER!!!!!88

Matt, is Jarboe even a possibility?

Anybody that thinks we need Jarboe is a complete idiot. This kid is going to be nothing but trouble. Most kids don’t really get into much, if any trouble until after they get on the college campus. Jarboe has definately speeded up the process. I’ll settle for winning the 7-8 games a year with good character kids before accepting the win at any cost mentality. On another note, if the pictures I’ve seen of jersies in the book store are our game jersey, I cast a no vote for them.

Sorry for my previous comments. My mommy let me use the computer for a while, and I am just so mad at Chan Gailey for not asking me out that I had to use those few minutes to bash him again. When I am angry, I could type anything.
By the way, do any of you know a good cure for male to male oral fixation?

Did I mention that Tech’s former coach is the antichrist?
I did? OK, sorry….. Did I mention that I still wet the bed? It’s embarrassing, but I feel like you guys on here are my friends, and I could say anything to you. I am a UGA fan, but have LOVED criticizing Gailey on here. Tee hee hee…
Oh, wait a minute……..I have to go. GEORGE MICHAEL is on TV!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the update Matt.
As for the new uni’s, I was hoping for the throwbacks with white helmets, or the traditional look. As long as Tech plays like hell, it really doesn’t matter. the
I’m interested in seeing who shines with the pads on. Marcus Wright will get his hands in time (up/downs get old fast). He’s a speed demon, who is going to be a dangerous weapon catching it and running it. These A-Backs are going to be exciting to watch once the scheme is in place.

Chan Gailey, worst coach, etc, etc, blah, blah, ad infinitum. What I really want to say is that we need to get the Jarboe kid if at all possible. He would not be a good fit in Athens, those players only get in trouble for drinking, whereas we can offer a real opportunity for him to perfect his thuggery and criminal activities by pairing him up as a roommate with one of our drug dealers, rapists, or hit and run drivers. UGA may lead us in number of overall arrests but our guys are arrested for much more serious criminal activities because the Bulldogs are too dumb to organize a good drug pipeline and just go around drinking beer. Thank God and Grayhound, etc, etc, etc.

Thank you for the updates Matt!
How are the QB’s looking? Sounds like the passes were there, just some drops.
