One colossal flop
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Intimidated? Scared? Whatever word correctly describes the way Georgia Tech’s baseball team played tonight in Athens, it has to go down as one of the biggest flops in the team’s history and in the history of Tech’s rivalry against Georgia.
Tech couldn’t pitch, couldn’t field and, after the first inning, could barely hit against a patchwork pitching staff.
This from a team that won more than 40 games and made big-time comebacks against N.C. State (for a victory) and Miami (in a loss) at the ACC tournament. All of that will be but a footnote. When Tech people talk about the 2008 season (on the field, at least), the memories will be of the last two days.

what can you say? regardless of sport gt chokes against uga and this is coming from an avid gt alum.
football - lost seven straight with the last four games being an annual demonstration of inventing new ways to collapse bball - hewitt couldn’t take the 86 celtics into athens and win against the uga intramural team baseball - every year gt bball is ranked very high in preseason and almost every year they underperform. go figure
it’s just a pitiful state of affairs. you have your arch rival in a position where they have to beat you twice and you get blown out twice. sad, sad, sad.

From a diehard Dawg, I was worried about having to face the Jackets twice in a row. I am just sorry that we had to be in the same regional, as both deserving of a shot at the CWS. I guess that Lipscomb woke us up! Oh well, as they say, wait ‘till next year! And come on Dawgs,if you have to post here, show some class! And congrats to Tech on a good year anyway!

As a dawg fan I am really proud of tonight’s outcome but still wish the people who set the brackets had put us and Tech in separate regionals.
Tech is better than a lot of teams that will advance in the tournament and it’s sad to see a team that had a lot of talent and a terrific season go home because of the early pairings.

Lets be honest here. Back in January you could count on one hand the number of people whio thought Tech would even make the post season. We all knew the hitting was there, although no one predicted the power and slugging Tech would put on display all season, but we also all knew pitching was a HUGE problem. If this is a rebuilding year for Tech baseball, as all the experts were saying back in the winter, I’ll take it.
Then of corse the tremendous distractions that occured during the season didn’t help. Hats off to this Tech team. They deserve it….from Tech and UGA fans alike.

Losing to UGA is really getting old. I can’t believe how Tech performed tonight. I don’t know what to say anymore. I’m glad you UGA fans still have your fun at Tech’s expense. I agree that if it were the other way around, I would probably be acting the same way most UGA fans do. So I can’t really say anything there.
The jokes about Michael Hutts are sick and I wish they would stop. Say whatever you want about the teams, but don’t attack someone else’s son.
I have started to face the fact that UGA owns Tech in sports right now. Hopefully that will change, but it doesn’t look good for the future. I can say unlike a lot of dog fans I know who would give up on their teams , I will always be a Tech fan through the good times and the bad.

Funny how from the start of the year until the last 10 or so games of the season uga had no interest in baseball. Just proves again that the mutts are a bunch of fair weather fans. When your precious baseball team was something like 13-10 nearing the halfway mark of the season you people were nowhere to be found. Why is that? You are nothing but a bunch of bandwagon jumpers and sorry excuses for fans. You know, if you are going to be a fan then BE A FAN!!! Quit pretending just so you can jump on the blogs and show your total lack of class and absence of intellect. (For what it’s worth, thanks to Rabun Dawg for bringing a small bit of taste and tact to uga.)

Techfan, you are absoulutely correct. Any disrespectful reference or “joke” about the Hutts tragedy is absolutely disgusting. As a life long UGA fan, I don’t wish to see GT athletics succeed at anything, but that is in regards to sports, not life.
Anybody who shows such an incredible lack of class should have their comments instantly removed and be forever banned. It is one thing to talk trash over sports, but it is NEVER excusable to make light of such a tragic situation.

To the truth… How sad is it that your whole grip on life seemingly revolves around the tech/uga rivalry. If you really have to slam Michael Hutts to make yourself feel better then you have some deep-rooted issues and probably need some professional counseling. I’m sure I can’t say anything to help you realize how utterly tasteless you are but maybe one or two of the other uga fans can step up and give you some idea. You aren’t worth a pile of cat puke to make comments like that.

No one said that the comments were inaccurate idiot. There’s just no need for it in a blog about a baseball game. Talking about how a player’s life was taken away by doing drugs. Yeah it was stupid of Hutts to do that, but there is no need for it here or to prove your point that UGA is better than Tech. Plus, the people on here blogging are not the players on the field. Its the fans, so yes, in fact that part is inaccurate.

Full Metal Doofus,
I was in Athens the first week of April when the Dawgs were 19-11. Is that good enough? Do I qualify as a REAL fan in your eyes now? Because your assessment of my stature as a fan means SO much to me.
I bet I went to just as many Tech football games as you this year…1!
Don’t attribute the problems of your fan base to UGA. We host Baseball Regionals, National Swim Meets, the Gymnastics Natl Championships, Tennis Champoinships, Golf Regionals, and 92 thousand plus 7 times a year for football, win or lose. When you can say the same, then you can talk trash about fairweather fans. Until then, get back behind your keyboard, put on your headset, and play some World of Warcraft. I hear there are some great weapons for sale on eBay.
And $5 says you never attended a single class at GT.

To all Tech people, I apologize for the insipid remarks of a few Dawg “fans” regarding the tragic loss of Mr. Hutts! That is something very hard to overcome for any team and DOES NOT reflect the opinion of the majority of the Bulldog nation (especially those of us who graduated from this fine institution) Hopefully, many of your current and future players in all sports will learn something from his poor decisions and better themselves and their lives from that knowledge! I rib you guys alot, but it is only in good faith as I expect the same back given different outcomes. I do not dish it if I cannot take it! I hope the majority of you feel the same way! Richard,
I did bloviate a little (Man, I hate O’Reilly), but that’s kind of the idea behind a blog. It’s fun and a chance to poke fun at one another without anyone getting really embarassed. See, I’m not really No.1Dawg. My name is actually John and I’m a ‘91 grad of UGA. I attend church regularly and my neighbor is a Tech grad and he’s a great guy. I might rib him a little about the game tomorrow, if I think about it. So, you see, we take on slightly different behavior behind the cloak of anonymity. That’s part of the fun of blogging. Kind of like the rare nose-pick while in the car. You can get away with it, because there’s a good chance no one knows you and you feel a little better afterward, especially if you’re out of tissues.
Relax, I don’t think any of the Techies are ready to change their lives over what I wrote.
Now, the Dawgs are in the SuperRegional, the Pens forced game Six, and I’m finally wound down from a great night of sports and thinking of all the work I have to do tomorrow, so, good morning all.

After reading some of these posts it is clear that UGA lacks class. A bunch of grown “men” barking and harassing kids. WOW. Grow up. Remember UGA was the National 8 seed. They were the favorites. Tech was the 5th best team in the ACC and UGA was the best in the SEC. What a joke. If that is the best the SEC has, you’re in trouble. Here is a perfect example of the lack of class the fans at UGA have. One of the fans asked our team if Michael Hutts was going to pitch tonight. Be proud our yourself UGA. Truly classless.

Steve, while that comment WAS indeed classless, Tech is truly throwing rocks in a glass house when talking about class. Don’t talk about other fans not having class. EVER AGAIN. From tech’s throwing fish at Notre Dame fans, to throwing stuff on the field during a game, and my personal favorite, the hanging of a sign that read “Get ready for a real massacre” when VT came to town last year. Give me a break. There may be some dawg “fans” on here showing their @ss, but Tech has ZERO wiggle room to talk about class, or lack thereof. Shut your mouth, and take your beating like a man.

Steve: The talk earlier this week was that the 5th best team in the acc was better than the best in the SEC. That UGA didn’t deserve that national seed. That a team losing to Lipscomb was no match for the jackettes. Obviously not true. We will see what another acc team brings this weekend. You (and your team) can watch it on ESPN. BTW, I AM proud of myself (although I never took calculus and I’m sure you think you are smarter).

I can say this. I was at the game and sitting up on kudzu hill with my friends who were also unable to get tickets. The Tech players kept their collective cool against a brutal and continuous onslaught of heckling and chanting. I mean to tell you, it was rough out there. These guys were getting demolished and demoralized, and maintained their class and dignity. I, for one, am not so sure we Dawgs would have been able to handle it if the bat had been in the other hand. Congratulations on a good season Techies. See you in the Fall.

All this talk about “class” out of Tech fans is beyond hilarious. I don’t remember any Georgia fans throwing things at the opposing team last night like Tech fans did during last year’s nationally televised football game against Boston College. Amazing how quickly that whole embarassing fiasco was swept under the rug. Or what about a Tech football player intentionally trying to injure a Georgia linebacker during last year’s annual beatdown? Again, there was hardly a peep out of Tech fans about that CLASSLESS act. Could you imagine the outcry if a Georgia player had done such a thing? We would never hear the end of it. People like Steve would be talking about it for years. For the love of a vandrook, please get over yourselves Tech fans.

In all reality UGA should not have hosted a regional. Tech had a better record, a much higher RPI, and beat UGA 2 out of 3 in the regular season. If Tech hosts, Tech wins. UGA is a difficult place to play. I give the UGA players credit because they took advantage of the situation. They did a great job.

Steve - You are so funny. Nothing you are saying is based on reality - because in REALity - the scores where 8 to 0 and 18 to 6…. Get back in the real world..
Reality is VT GET READY FOR A REAL MASSACR hung over I75 right after the mass murders at VT before the football game - is in REALity much worse then a drug addict that has a blessed life and throws it away on drugs. Life about choices - choose wrong you lose. He was a loser and so is Joe Hamilton, Qunicy Carter, Thurman and all the other druggie losers!!!

Idiots - you are the idiot.
UGA has now hosted 4 Regionals and this will be our 3rd Super Regional since 2000. We have never lost one.
Since 2000, we have won three SEC titles; hosted four Regionals and three Super Regionals; been to CWS 3 times (4 if we get in this year).

I will (as testimony I offer some of my previous post) be the first to admit it brings a smile to my face and a satisfaction within my soul when UGA (or anyone) beats Tech in any competition. That being said the posts that have invoked the death of a young man are without a doubt tasteless, insensitive and have no place in the spirited banter amongst Tech and UGA fans. That discourse has and always will be a part of this In-state rivalry. That is what makes for a great rivalry. But to show such disregard and disrespect for this young man, his family and the entire Tech community saddens me as a UGA Alum and lifelong fan. I offer my thanks to the Tech team for a spirited competition, the past two days, and wish nothing but the best for the young men on their team. QD

What is it you don’t comprehend moron. Flash back to the AJC article on the pitiful Tech drug testing program with it’s non-existent penalties for drug use. I guess your head is so far up your azz that you can’t see the rather clear picture of an institution that can’t administer academic programs for it’s athletes or a drug program that might have saved Michael Hutts life. It is fans of the trade school like you TJ that guarantee scandal after scandal after scandal. And I guess Joe Hamilton is innocent too huh? Come back when you have developed reading comprehension skills beyond second grade. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when some UGA player dies. We will see if he/she gets the respect they deserve.

As a newcomer to the blogging world, it amazes me how hateful and stereotypical many of the comments are. How many of the fans writing here actually went to the schools? How many played sports after high school or have kids who did? Why do you get so personal? Boy, I love beating Tech because I grew up in Atlanta many years ago when I was the onyl Dawg fan around and Tech was always kicking our tail and all my friends were always teasing me. But lets get real: these are only GAMES. Who thinks Iran is a big problem and who has family serving in the military in a war zone?

If it happens - you act like Hutts was killed charging up Iwo Jima or something. The guy was an addict who abused illegal and dangerous drugs. And he paid the ultimate price. People should respect the Hutts family, but to eulogize and victimize Hutts is ridiculous. He did it to himself.

Congratulation to Tech for a fantastic season. Keep your head up and be proud of your team. You deserved to be a number one seed. We should be meeting each other this weekend.
I’ve understood getting down on your football and basketball program, but the baseball program has been top notch for at least 15 years.
Hoping the Dawgs can pull out this weekend and make it to Omaha. Would be great to win a second World Series!
Very proud of these boys, it takes a lot of character to come out of the loser’s bracket and win!

Guys, we all have our ambitions and goals in life. We have met some, and will never meet the rest. We try and try and try, but come up short. We look at others and may get jealous. We look as some and may feel better about ourselves.
This is about football, but it could also be about choices. Michael Hutt didn’t have that heroin shoved down his veins,(no evidence), Stafford didn’t have someone beat him into submission to hold that keg over his head, but it goes deeper than that.
I would’ve loved to be the guy. The guy that was in the news or the blogs, hell, who wouldn’t????
Guys, the folks whod don’t post crap are our worst people.

“Underachiving GIT nowhere near Regional crown!” I believe that headline is the more appropriate one! Thank you very much. See you on the gridiron! (8)

The death of Michael Hutts is really a tragedy. It is also so sad that his roommate had to find him and never played another pitch.
What I don’t understand is that this tragedy never seemed to inspire the Tech baseball team. Some athletes/teams seem to rally and be inspired by tragedy but not this time.
None of my comments are meant to be critical. Just wondering !!! Any ideas???

I understand the fact that Michael was doing something stupid and that he should not have been. I was a good friend of his growing up through high school and had no idea he even had a problem. The fact that is trying to be made here is that there is no point in bringing up the topic at all. Talk about the game, but not about one player. Its just wrong regardless of how he died.

Hi,I’m Seong-Ho,Yoon living in Jinhae City southkorea now.
AJC.com brave bulletin I can’t write from yesterday now.
Something fraude exist I sensed and I want to send messege to people of Atlanta Braves.
I didn’t meet and talk with any people of USA from past to now for important things.
I didn’t receive any money from people of USA. Keep in mind.
Babylon now can threathen my families and relatives freely. Keep in mind.
May the force of Messiah be with you
P.S:P.S: Below is my blog’s some article
Freemason
Theseday it is easy for you to read articles about freemason ruling whole world in the web. But, really speaking, this is trick of the most malevolent Babylonian living in korean peninsla for the purpose of imputating their sins to freemason and the original culprit are Baylonian whose language is korean.
And what is Freemason?
[18Century passport of Freemason]
The painting upper direction was in the passport of Freemason in 1785. Look presicely.
In top-most, the world Justice exist. God is Conscience and Justice sense.
In the below, Someone’s face is painted like Sun, and the middle of his forehead is wide, dark eyebrow, nose a little wider than the white, and you can find this face is something like Asian. Yeh Solomon, Osiris, Messiah,Lion’s face.
In the below again, Isis and another wife exist, and in center of both located Pheonix which means the guardian of Isis.
In the left side, Pyramid is and in right You can catch the flags of Judah’s 12tribe.
The sentence of script I can’t read for this word I don’t know well. ^*^
After all, this Freemason meant that people who didn’t forget Solomon and waited Osiris, and they were connected with Judah’s 12Kingdum. They knew so well about reality theeseday I am writting over the world.
[Article about Messiah]
And upper document someone wrote I think you need to contact, but never easily you could meet with them I think. But, they don’t know this fact “Allah is Messiah” and they would be people of Judah. The good people have to hand in hand with them, and you can’t trust people who don’t want to meet and help me, if they would avoid me they must be slave or descendant of not Judah but Israel. Person who can’t talk about Neutron and Resonance Schumann would be like witches and wizards who can’t tell “Voldmort” and you can’t trust them all and unbelievable. Originally Freemason pursuited the whole kinds of Justice about history, laws, economy, etc, and Freemason who chase Common Sense Babylon made must be slave or hyperjesus.
This Freemason was started to be fully attacked by Neutron from 1880’, so they caught the information about Neutron by intelligence office, they informed this secret to Judahs’ 12tribe’s Kingdums, World War1,2 were occurred by very this information You exactly have to know I think. Freemason informed the King of Japan and Japan invaded korean peninsla and southchina, but the insufficient information couldn’t defend themselves from implanting spy, therefore Implanted inslaved bosses of Japan attacked Hawai Island by the order from Babylonian who was living in north china and southafrica.
If Freemason would dislike the war about Babylon, that is proof of inslavery, because they were people who named Atomic Bomb to Neutron Clear Bomb. This fact the kings of Judah’s 12tribe couldn’t tell a nation for poor scientific knowledge, and they didn’t want to make nation to be horrified.
Mr.Obama is Freemason 32th degree I found article about him theseday. And he quit Jesus Religion. This fact is enormous hope to the good people in Asia around.
May The Bright Morning Star be with you Real Freemason ^*^

Tech certainly can not win in sports, but I’d still rather be making $15k more out of college. UGA grads can just hang around athens and work in bars/liquor stores with their pysch and sociology degrees.

Wow! Where are all of these classy UGA posters during football season? As a techie, I truely enjoy the rivalry. But I have to say, here lately, when UGA has been so good, you really see all the bandwagon “fans” jump on. It seems that they are the loudest screamers and most arrogant posters…just a thought. I appreciate the classy UGA fan, however odd it is…
