Overachieving Jackets nearing regional crown

OK, be honest. Did you think at the start of the season this could be a regional champion Georgia Tech baseball team?

It hasn’t happened yet, but Tech is 2-0 in the Athens Regional and in commanding position to earn what most likely would be a super regional trip to N.C. State. Not only do the Jackets need just one more victory, with two chances to earn it, but they’ll have two of their top four starting pitchers (Eddie Burns and Zach Von Tersch) available to go against Georgia or Lipscomb’s fourth and fifth starters.

Danny Hall and his team would like nothing better than for Georgia and Lipscomb to play a high-scoring elimination game Sunday afternoon to use up even more of their pitching. Already, Georgia had to use Joshua Fields for an inning today.

I hope UGA loses. I don’t want to face UGA at home.

Oh, how sweet it will be to eliminate the droolers @ home! Do it for #40, Jackets.

Early in the year, when the pitching was so hot, I thought we had a shot at this and more. Later in the year, when the pitching went south, I thought we would win a regional and lose in the Supers round. I hope I was a pessimist !! Just about anyone can win this thing if the breaks go their way and they pitch decently and play defense.

Well, the boys have a great chance. Lets atleast have adequate pitching and a lot of long ball. Go get ‘em.

Unfortunately, Georgia seems to play best when their backs are against the wall. Danny Hall’s teams always lay down and die when they face some adversity. Danny once again ran us out of a potential big inning early in the game and Georgia followed up by taking the lead themselves. Danny again proved that he has no idea when to take out a struggling pitcher. Tech will probably have twice as many players get drafted as Georgia, but Georgia gets a lot more out of their players than Hall does. If we lose tomorrow, Danny should resign.

They are not exactly getting the job done right now. Maybe next game.

I’m really p** off. CarolinaJacket…I agree with you, not getting it done in key situations. However there are still innings 7-9 left. Hopefully that bats will wake up. I really HATE UGA!!!!

They must be able to see it coming. The disappointment. Dawgs have all the momentum for tomorrow night.

Reggie Ball might as well start the game on the hill for the Jackets.

I can’t remember the last time Tech beat UGA in a game of huge significance. As much as I love the Jackets they will go down tomorrow as sure as a Braves one run loss on the road.

I hate those rednecks. No Tickle Pile tonight. They ruin my life.

Well that sucked. Their pitcher pitched a good game and the umpire had an expanded strike zone. What can you do? When you can’t hit, you can’t win. Hopefully Tech comes out and plays tomorrow night. We’ve already smashed Georgia twice in baseball this season and one was at their home. The last time we played UGA in a super regional, they knocked us out at home. It’s time to return the favor!
