Beesball, BCS/Bowls and a random thought
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Mike’ll probably blog more later on Tech being eliminated from the ACC tournament (you walk nine, and they walk two — especially when a team hits like Miami — and you’re not going to win very often).
Here’s a quick thought, though, driven by a BRILLIANT blog by Tony Barnhart:
Why not go back to the straight bowl system, with conference alliances if you want them, and then do a plus one?
Sure, there’d still be controversy, but that’s not going to end. It’s just not. No way, no how, even if there was a playoff.
And Tony did a brilliant job of pointing out why presidents/commissioners are standing their ground.
So go back to the bowl system of yore, and the best two teams (subjectivity will remain an issue, of course) and play one more.
Whether you retain the numerical rating system that picks participants or amend it, I don’t know, but what about it?
And will Tech sign another basketball player this spring. Talk about a tough recruiting circuit. The Jackets have been digging dirt without getting any deeper for a long, long time now.

Why not talk about Tech’s latest football commit? If it had been UGA, something would be slathered all over the ajc’s front webpage by now. You guys are lazy.

I personally am interested in seeing how long it takes for them to even mention the new recruit. Pretty sad that a major paper gets scooped by us rank amateurs. If it was a UGA recruit they’d already be talking about how he was a 4 star that probably deserved to be a 5 star.

The comments about the AJC are absolutely right: everything reported is pro-UGA and negative, neutral or never reported about Tech. Since this bias is so prevalent in the AJC’sa sports reporting, I suggest that the AJC initials really stand for Athens Journal-Constitution.

We need a 16 team playoff system. PERIOD. We don’t need any system that depends on someone’s opinion…especially a sec homer like Tony. The BCS is probably the worst system ever developed. The 34 bowls are meaningless, and they are having a harder and harder time selling the tickets. Do a 16 team playoff where teams earn they way ON THE FIELD. Take all opinion out of it. It would be the greatest sporting event in the history of the world. Why these idiots cling to the present system is insane. And, finally, thank God and Greyhound that Chan Gailey is GONE FOREVER!!!

Nothing like starting the day with a good laugh, and you nerds rarely disapoint! By the way your intense jealousy is quite a compliment and very satisfying. To be so darn “smart”, you geeks can be so “stupid”. The AJC is a “news”paper. They have to sell advertising. Thus they need a “market”. What has been going on at the trade school on North Ave. for many years now is by no means considered “news”. Most importantly your football program(what a joke) and its fanbase(a bigger joke) has CERTAINLY proved far beyond any douby that there is no “market” there.Let me remind you ONE more time: 1. Last bowl game-241 tickets sold!!!!! 2. At least half your conference (the mighty ACC no less) games your cracker box stadium is 2/3rds full at best!!!! 3. The last mighty ACC championship game you went to the stadium was at BEST half full!!!! Now I do admit that it is quite a road trip to Jacksonville and no on expects many of you guys to “pony up” and go to the expense and trouble to travel that far to watch a sorry a$$ football team!!!!!!!
Re: your latest commit. Sounds like a great kid who should fit well in CPJ’s offense. Who knows…he may beat us one year, but that is highly unlikely!!!!
In the meantime: you nerdy a$$ geeks either create some “news” or create a “market”!!!!
Otherwise: STFU or go start your own newspaper(which i remind you once again is a “business”!!!
See you in Nov. for your yearly beatdown!!!!!
GO DAWGS AND THWGT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps: The very first time i go to one of our blogs or UGA sports.com, and dont find any of your pimply a*******es there….I will NEVER come here to one of your pi$$y blogs again!!!!!!!!

Scout.com has a really nice interview with the qb commitment. He seems like a good kid and a real winner.

I think the Basketball recruits are smart enough to know Hewitt will be fired next year. He should have been fired this year.
I do wonder when the AJC will report that 4 star QB who committed.

Ramble On
Yeah there you go, go ahead and show how much of a FAKE tech fan you are by undermining the coach. You do know we played the hardest schedule in the nation last year after loosing 2 lotto picks…RIGHT!??
You DO know we just signed one of the top guards in the Nation in Shumpert, and are VERY likely to land the #1 Recruit in the nation in D. Favors…RIGHT!?? Do you have any idea HOW GOOD wed be in 2009!??
A Junior pt guard in Miller, a good junior forward in Lawal, Shumpert at the 2 spot, and Favors holding down the middle. Wed be a top 3 ACC team NO DOUBT!!
Hewitt is a good coach, weve had more freshman pt guards in the past 5 years than anyone ever expected…and play in the nations toughest conference.
Give it a rest man, its fans like you that jump the gun that messes up programs. Just like i was telling the UGA fans they had a good coach in Felton, when they were calling for his head before the SEC tourney.
GT Hoops is back, and it starts this year! We will be a top 30 team this year, and a top 10 team in fall/2009!
If we dont do anything in 08 or 09, then yes, time for a new coach. But Hewitt has proven hes a GREAT recruiter, now that he finally has a non freshman PT guard again, lets see what he can do with the talent! I predict BIG things!
I do think the athletics dept should bring back that defensive coach that left tho.
Stick to football Ramble….you dont know SHT about Hoops.

Yall football fans on here bicker like little girls. Why dont you put your efforts into making your sport meaningfull again instead of always fighting each other??
Join together, BOYCOTT the BCS, dont buy tickets to some meaningless holiday bowl game or another chic filet or taco bell bowl. WHO CARES who wins the fight for 30th place in the country.
I think its lame to see a 6-6 team jump up and down at the end of the season yelling “were #1” when all they got was a free tshirt and a coupon for a free pizza.
Pee Wee…i mean College Football….where ALL the kids get a trophy!
