Some NFL team will get a Choice bargain
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tashard Choice doesn’t have first-round speed, but he’s got first-round heart. I think some NFL team will get a bargain when they draft him. He’s the kind of guy who will do what it takes to make a contribution, and his attitude has got to be a plus for any locker room.
The NFL draft is a strange weekend for a guy like me who covers college football. It’s always interesting to see what the pros think of the players I’ve covered and/or followed over the years. And it’s always interesting to me to see what the pros get right (Calvin Johnson) and what they get wrong (James Butler, who went from undrafted free agent to starting 12 games for last year’s Super Bowl champions).
I’m curious to see where Gary Guyton and Philip Wheeler will fit in, and of course Durant Brooks, and I’m wondering if some other Tech player might turn into the next Butler, Michael Matthews or George Cooper, finding a job in the NFL after not finding favor on draft day.

Brooks is the interesting one. The guy is probobly the biggest can’t miss prospect in the draft, but he will be drafted late because of his position. He could probobly start for all but 3 teams in the league today.
Now I’m not saying NFL teams would be wise to invest a high draft choice in a punter (like the Raiders using a first rounder on Janikowski), but we saw for the last two years how valuable a player is that can always pin an opponent at their 10, or send a punt 77 yards out of his own endzone.

This is coming from a Dawg fan…. Durant Brooks is a amazing prospect, but won’t get drafted until the 5-7 rounds due to his position. Philip Wheeler is a badass linebacker size will make his draft stock go down but I would draft him 2nd round anyday. Tashard Choice is a grinder. He may not have the 40 speed but he makes it up in his determination and desire 4th-5th round.

Good comment Ben. I agree, watching the Tech spring game I definitely missed Brooks. I hope the Falcons are smart and spend a 6th rounder on him.
Choice is a great running back if you have a good offensive line, as he always seems to get something out of nothing and knows how to follow blocks. I hope a team like Indy takes him, as he can run, catch, and protect the quarterback.
Stewart Mandel called Phillip Wheeler his most underrated linebacker in the draft. He mentioned something about NFL teams arguing where they want to play Wheeler (inside or outside). If you had to rate the two, I would say that Wheeler is probably better right now, but that Guyton is the better athlete. A team will be getting a steal with any of them.

I agree that Choice will make someone a fine pick. And, I think so will Thomas Brown from UGA. Hope both get to play at the next level. Both are classy guys.

Butler was the leading tackler for the Giants in the super bowl too. Only Rodney Harrison had more between the two teams. Not bad for a guy that didn’t get drafted despite being THE safety on one of the better defenses in the ACC his senior year.

Hey people I think that Gary Guyton is the biggest sleeper in the upcoming draft. Just look at the and his post season productivity profile Gary Guyton

Guyton would be my choice at linebacker.
Wheeler is good and has gotten the press but Guyton is faster and is a better tackler.
Someone is going to get a real bargain with Guyton.
He is the real deal.

The question should be, “in what round will Taylor Bennett get drafted?” I mean, the guy was the savior for tech right? (muffled laughter)

Choice and Brown and both runners that should stick with the teams that draft them. Both have the heart to contribute at first on special teams. When these guys get their shot people will know we have really good football players in Ga.

Man, you just can’t have a useful blog without knuckleheads. As a dawg fan, I think Choice might make a slightly better back in the NFL than Brown. Now Brown is strong as hell, but I think Tashard’s build will help him more. Thomas is just a little too small. But who knows.
I can’t wait til tomorrow to see who our “hopefully new and improved” Falcons will get at #3. Ought to be a pretty good weekend.

Tashard would be a very good Choice for anyone.
Barack Hussien Osama would be a bad choice; since he is the anti-christ with a silver tongue, muslim schooling (Indonesia) and Oprah new-age movement backing.

I am always interested in what all these sport’s types get right or wrong. I saw the NY Giants play live in Atlanta and Manning looked like a Manning in the game tearing us apart with pinpoint passes. We couldn’t stop him with a gun, yet the press was acting like he wasn’t much. One great thing about sports when you get it wrong it usually comes out in the wash, the cream eventually rises. I saw Matt Ryann tear Tech apart the same way Manning did and hear the same bunk about what he is not. I quit reading or listening and gone back to trusting what my eyes tell me. This kid will win in the NFL.

I think Barack Obama will be drafted in the 4-5 round to the Dolphins because they need “hope for the future.”

Tashard is a standup guy. He will give you everything he’s got every play. Phil Wheeler will do what it takes — whatever it takes. Durant Brooks will bury opponents deep every time.
My only hope is that the Falcons leave them all alone! Poor Matt Ryan!

My family has been watching on pins and needles waiting to hear them call the names of Tashard Choice, Jamal Lewis, and Darrel Robertson. Tashard and Jamal grew up playing for the Riverdale Blackhawks with my sons, and Darrel joined him in junior high (I can still hear his mom’s high pitched voice). My son chatted with Jamal yesterday morning, and he is nervous and excited and scared. This is a great time in these young men’s lives. It will be wonderful to see their names on the ticker. Once a Blackhawk Always a Blackhawk!!! Love you guys!!

Tashard will be a bargain and a huge asset to anyone that gets him. He is also faster than the draft “experts” think. Di everyone one read Terrance (Racist) Moore’s article? Ryan is an excellent choice and a franchise QB. By far the best one in the draft according to ESPN.
Moore doesn’t like it because Vick is gone forever and in prison where he needs to be. Maybe we can go to the GA dorm now and it won’t be full of Nejjers. I want to see a football game, not go to a homeboy rap concert.

A lot of Tech fans wanted a change at GT football, but Chan Gailey did have one big positive. He knew talent and he could get them to come to Tech. It will be interesting to see if PJohnson can do the same. Gailey is not a head coach, and it showed with his record and many big games (winnable, but usually not won). I will always believe that Randy Edsal was ready to take the job, but was turned away. I guess innovators never really do well in Tech athletices.
