Richard likes new D-line scheme

It’s understandably overlooked in all the hubbub about Georgia Tech switching offenses, but the Yellow Jackets have made some changes on defense, too.

Here’s one: The defensive ends are lining up wider and angling in from there. That has implications for their teammates, too.

“It allows us as defensive tackles to get more one-on-one opportunities,” Darryl Richard said. “It gives you a little more freedom.

“You have a good idea before the snap whether the offensive tackle is going to work a double team or kick slide out to on that defensive end.”

The defensive line of Richard and Vance Walker inside and Michael Johnson and Derrick Morgan outside shapes up as the strongest unit on the Yellow Jackets.

That should be a great line that may keep us in some games as the offense (and d-backs) develop. Those guys are good.

Who is suppose to win the ACC next year, Clemson. We can play with everybody, now the coaching will make the difference of who wins.

It will be nice to be able to pressure the QB and not hang our d-backs out like chopped liver!

The DL play was one main reason the offense looked so bad in the spring game. These guys are good and were blowing up everything. GT also has some good looking up and coming LB’s as well. I feel a little better about the DB’s also. The OL was overmatched by the DL. However, there are injuries on the OL and these kids have just as much (if not more) to learn in the new scheme as the “skilled” position players do.

I think for all the talk of the offense, something special may be brewing on defense. I don’t think the statistics will change much. Tenuta had a great defense statistically. But, what does look like it will change is the way we play defense from game to game.

One game, we’d tear it up on D, the next we’d give up 400 passing yards to Matt Ryan. I think the new scheme will be much more steady. Steady is good with the new offense.

Mike or Matt,

Either of you know anything about another WR leaving the program, now that spring practice is over?

Might be time to resurrect a phrase from the SHW’s days at the Flats: Thin Gold Line

Originally used for hoops, but could be applicable to the WRC corps …

Time for Tyler Melton, Kevin Cone and/or R.B. Clyburn to cowboy up.

I am saddened by the loss of Michael Hutts and am not happy about the two Tech professors who lied and stole nor the one who used the credit card to steal. I am not jumping for joy that a Tech athlete was arrested recently for underage drinking nor the fact that Reuben sold pot.

What chaps me though is the piety of Tech fans

You folks are just the most hypocritical people in the world.

Keep that in mind.

Today’s pious observation from the Flats:

Techater can’t spell his own name.

Keep that in mind.

It must be tiresome for some of these dawg fans to have to sign onto the AJC two or three times a day watching for new blogs that are related to Tech, so that they can post disparging remarks as one of the first few comments. Seems like they would have better things to do, but I guess not.

BB Go to any UGA blog and you will see members of the nerd herd doing the same thing!!!!!! Except to disparage UGA they have to talk about everything but UGA-Tech football….for example how other teams can beat UGA or a college student that got caught drinking(can you believe that actually happens?). Save $150.00 and get your season ticket and get ready for another beat down!!!! THWGT
