Good start for current, ex and never-were Jackets
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia Tech looks sharp on the mound, with four shutouts and a 1.68 staff ERA through eight games. Weekend starters Eddie Burns (14 strikeouts, 0 walks in 14 innings), Zack Von Tersch (12 strikeouts, 1 earned run in 13 innings) and David Duncan (13 strikeouts, 3 walks in 14 innings) appear ready for the ACC season. Which is good, because it starts on Friday, after midweek games against Western Carolina and Kennesaw State.
Former Tech star Matt Wieters is impressing the bosses in his first spring training. Here’s the link.
Meanwhile, former Tech basketball signee Austin Jackson has shown he can do more than play point guard, with Reggie Jackson calling him the best athlete in the Yankees organization.

Why even write about Tech baseball until they play someone decent? That is like all the acolades for the womens basketball team who have beat absolutely no one decent. Hold off on anointing the baseball team.

The conference schedule sets up pretty well for GT. A home series vs. VT, then a tough one at F$U, then Duke at home and BC away. 3 of the bottom feeders in the first 4 series.

reasonablefan You overstated your case a bit. The women’s basketball team won a couple of November games against teams that are in the top 50 of the RPI. One of those victories was at Iowa, which shared the Big Ten regular-season title with Ohio State. The other was against Temple, which shared the Atlantic 10 title. No, neither is up to the standards of last season’s victory over Maryland, but those opponents both meet any reasonable definition of “decent.”
With Tech baseball, you’re right that it’s early. Still, it’s better to play well against lousy competition than to play poorly against lousy competition.
BTW, Von Tersch is ACC pitcher of the week.

What do you consider a “decent” college baseball team. Wins are important, no matter who they come against. And the nature of baseball as a game, especially on the college level, has always been one of on any given day, one team can beat another. This is the reason that few victories for “underdogs” are considered upsets this early in the season. They usually occur with very little notice. So while beating the Youngstowns and Rutgers of the world may be no big deal, losing to them would likewise be nothing to be overly concerned about.

We had a decent Tickle Pile thanks to Wake. Now if the baseball team gets rolling we should have some warm weather Tickle Piles and we all know how popular they are.

We are officially a baseball school now. Or maybe a golf school or women’s tennis school. Because we aren’t a basketball school anymore.
20 offensive rebounds! How can you give up 20 offensive rebounds? Half of their missed shots! That may be an all time record.

Bravesfan79 yellowblood is a UGAY student with nothing better to do (Like go to class). Since the UGA QB was caught being gay with the back up, he’s deflecting on here.

I love hearing the UGA Jan Brady- like jealousy at any article written about Tech. Isn’t there a NASCAR blog you UGA fans can go post your jealous comments on? You can go talk about who’s cheatin’ and cryin’ after the Sunday race.
