All cheer Jeremis Smith

Sorry to blog so late.

Two best individual games of the year: Moe Miller last Sat. at Va. Tech in a loss )29 pts., etc., etc.), and Jeremis Smith today.

16 points, 13 rebounds, goes flying out of bounds twice on tough plays, crashing horrifficly both times, spasming the first time after taking a cameraman’s knee dead center in the middle of the back.

Leaves game injured twice, draws a charge to foul out Wake’s best player (Teague), and this may go forgetten by some.

End of the game, 8.8 left, game tied, Tech inbounds, Miller gets stripped in the lane, and Wake’s Ish Smith — the fastest or second-fastest players in the ACC (ty lawson) breaks the other way. somebody lays out, reaches around, and tips the ball away, forward.

Five seconds left? ISH Smith outraces all to the ball a second time, easy layup with 1 second left. wake wins.

Two seconds left (which is when ISH smith took off), though and there’s not enough time for him to catch up.

No game-winning shot by Wake’s ISH Smith.

Tech’s Smith made the play.

Weird, and eventually fun, game.

If Smith had played with the same intensity the entire game there would have been no OT and we would have won easily. Why does a senior have to have a coach screaming at him to play hard? OH well, he did at the end and we got the W. Let’s get another tomorrow night and have a chance to finish off the year on a positive note.

I really wonder who next year will provide the heart, effort (and rebounding) that Jeremis has given us this year.

I hope Dickey can do the job next year. His first 3 have been a mixed bag. The year off gives him a chance to see the game from a new perspective. We really need someone who can knock someone arund inside. in the off season Lawal needs to get a jump shot. It is inconcievable to me that a guy who has this type of potential does not develop a jump shot by his junior year in high school. He is not big enough to bang it indie with thebig boys but with a jump shot and his quickness to the rim he could be something. Moe Miller will be fine next year. I hope the recruit from Illinois can shoot and play some point. We need a juco back up point guard if he cannot. Does anyone know if Hewitt is even trying to sign anyone else. We need a shooter and a ball handler. We also need to bring in a big class next year as we will lose 3 or 4. With all the talent in the state of Georgia there is no reason for Tech to ever have a down year in recruiting.

I can’t believe I’m about to criticize an article that speaks positively about Tech sports. Somewhere, pigs are flying.

It’s great that Smith was able to keep Wake’s Smith from scoring the game winning basket. But maybe if our Smith had made more of his free throws we wouldn’t have been in that situation. Seriously, did you watch the game? Smith was terrible when shooting at the line. He was something like 3 for 11 for the game. It got to the point where, when Smith got fouled, I said “Crap, Smith is shooting the free throw.”

Glad to see we pulled off the win. Just don’t laud the wrong person, even if it is for the right reasons.

Its insane that there is a headline that says “The Season’s not Lost” referring to the basketball team. Who makes these headlines anyways?

The two positive articles in the AJC about Tech basketball today are about Morrow and Smith, two guys who seemed more suited for small college programs. Smith, through no fault of his own was two inches too short to be the big time player that his position requires. And Morrow, though he came into the program with a fine shot, could never get open like JJ Reddick nor shoot over coverage like Dennis Scott. If these two were to be the stars of their class, it’s no wonder that the program languishes in mediocrity as their class graduates.

Another Tech game - and another case of the announcers saying that the officials had no clue as to what was going on.

Will someone PLEASE call the ACC office and have them wake up to what everyone else has seen so far - that their officiating is getting worse as the season goes on??

Not sure how accurate this is, but I’ve heard that Shumpert (from Illinois) is one of the best shooters in next years class. He’s a 5 star from rivals, so he’s on the level of Critt and Young. Should be a lot better then Morrow at creating his own shot, something we have sorely needed this year without Young and Critt. Dickey and Lawal will be a lot harder to handle in the paint than Smith and Lawal are today. Dickey demands a double if not triple team in the post. If he concentrates on passing he can be the focal point of our offense. I think he has the passing skills he just has always been reluctant to do so. He can make our team very hard to deal with if he takes his last year as seriously as J Smith.

Hope you don’t forget that Dickey was playing behind Aminu last year in the ACC and NCAA games. And Peacock beat him out last year at the start of the season. His big games were far and few between. He does not hustle too often and goes MIA during critical moments. Hope he has improved because all of you who are thinking he will be the incarnation of Jeremis next year are delusional. Jeremis gets very little credit. Any team would love to have him. Does the dirty work that doesn’t get pub…unless Shumpert shoots out the lights next year, better pray Dickey becomes a legit center. If you think this year was bad, wait until you see Tech w/o Smith and Morrow. Can’t count on Clinch anymore. Miller and Shumpert will have to score 25 PPG for TEch to be successful.
