Timeout, timeout, timeout for Miller time
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
All over the map …
Two games in a row Tech’s had timeouts to burn at the end of regulation and the opponent has not.
I asked coach Paul Hewitt the other day if he was making a conscious effort to conserve, he said he was not. In short, he just said that players are playing better, and he’s had less reason to call them. Hmmmmm.
Freshman point guard Moe Miller’s left ankle, which he injured with 6:51 left in regulation of the Yellow Jackets’ 92-82 overtime win Sunday at Virginia, was diagnosed Monday morning as a “grade two sprain.”
His status for Tech’s Saturday game against Maryland is uncertain. Yet the likelihood of Miller playing is far greater than it would have been had he suffered a “high ankle” sprain, in which increased inflammation tends to sideline athletes longer, sometimes for weeks.
Some of this detail was taken out of stories posted earlier, and I don’t know why, so here it is again. Folks love details. And money.
But I don’t have any dough.

I like Mo!!!
Good question Matt, the right answer would have been yes for the timeouts.
I guess that light bulb will never go off in Hewitts head.

Thanks Matt.
Just saw Mike’s article announcing Matt Causey as ACC Player of the Week. Deserved! Congrats! Should have gotten it last week (UNC/VT)too!
This COULD be a turning point for this season..two key road wins back/back in tough venues.
Could be…because there’s a lot of heavy lifting to do. There are 11 games left. NONE of them are easy. NONE of them.
Here’s the agenda. Win all the home games: 5 Win AT LEAST 2 more road games: 2 17-13 — on the bubble.
Steal another one: 18-12 = NCAA bid .. especially considering RPI.
Getting to 18-12 is going to be very, very tough (that’s 8 and 3 down the stretch).
Protecting home court is critical. Drop 1 at home…dangerous. Drop 2 at home…could be fatal to the post-season hopes. Drop 3…forget about it…
The team will be have to be focused in every game. No mental lapses.
It is possible. It will not be easy.
GO JACKETS!

I think one of the problems is Tech doesn’t play or hasn’t played Causey enough. I guess Hewitt is thinking of next year, but it is almost like Matt is making it happen without Hewitt. The press has got up with this thing and it is getting out of hand. Now someone is having the press write about a guard that still hasn’t shown up and put Tech in a 10 point deficient at half time at Va. Moe Miller may be the guard of the future but Causey is now. The reason we are winning is the guy is a free sprit and plays the way he feels not being over coached. I think Hewitt did this more out of not being impressed with Causey and got up with the freshman and it took a life of its own.

C’mon GT! Causey can’t play the way he does for 40 minutes! The rotation is working great and Miller is still far superior on defense. They are very different players, but both effective in spurts.
By the way, 38 points in each half at UVA - pretty simple-minded to hang the halftime deficit on Miller. In fact, he kept GT in the game with 7 quick points after UVA jumped out to a 7-0 lead - that’s more points than Causey’s entire point total before overtime!
Both PG’s are playing well. Let’s enjoy it, and hope Mo Miller is ready to go on Saturday.

Agreed with ArkyTech. There is NO WAY Causey can play at the level he is playing for a full 40 minutes. Especially in light of all the injuries he suffered from the past year.

PH has done a good job with his point guards. Miller has shown steady improvement and seems comfortable starting. Causey brings to offense what West used to bring to defense… high energy and making plays. Bell is becoming a lock-down defender. It’s time to give Hewitt credit for adjusting.

Agree with these comments. If Causey has to go the whole way, we may have a problem. Let’s hope he can pull it off if needed. I like his chances better at home anyway, where he can feed off the crowd.

C’mon GT: The kid scores 30-18-18 and you say, “I think one of the problems is Tech doesn’t play or hasn’t played Causey enough.”
Someone not getting enough play doesn’t score 30-18-18 consecutively. No one in the RIGHT mind could possible believe or make this type of statement.

GT just proves the fact that some people don’t understand basketball. As others have said, Causey couldn’t play like he does for 40 minutes, or even 30 for that matter. The rotation is working and we better hope Miller is not out, even for one game.
Ramble, do you think Hewitt was not being honest? I agree that he sometimes was too quick to call a TO in mid game, but you have to admit that he isn’t having to burn them to stop a run by the other team or to save a possession when someone gets trapped.
And I’ve never quite been sure of the expression, but when someone “gets it” wouldn’t the light bulb go on?
Hey, every game is big from here on out, so let’s pull hard for this team on Saturday. As LBJ said, there are no easy games.

We don’t take time outs during Tickle Piles. It’s constant action!

yellowblood, go to the ugay board to post, there is no way you have a job. How are you able to post so much on here about those so called “tickle piles”? The only thing I can figure out it must be the welfare keeping you alive.

yellowjacket33 don’t let yellowblood bother you. He became “yellowblood” after the Secret Spooning Society became revealed started by the late great Wallace Butts when the Pictures of our QB’s became revealed. Since young Matthew let out the secret, he is bent on trying to deflect the gayness of our fine University. I’d like to apologize for yellowblood, but I’ll never stop yelling…GOOOOOO DAWGS SPOOOONNN’EM!!!!

I too think Moe Miller is playing much better than his play earlier in the season. But your talking about bad play versus average play. He needs to play, but maybe they should reverse the roles for this game. Causey starts, and Miller relieves him when he gets winded. Causey is proving once again that a good sixth man, sometimes is more important than some of the starters. Not since the Finals run has Hewitt had someone like Causey. If you’re old enough to remember John Havlacek spent half of his career as the best sixth man in basketball. You know what happened to those Celtics teams. I might be going out on a limb, but Tech is capable of beating all of the other teams in the Conference. However, wear and injuries will keep that from happening. Although an NCAA bid is a slight possibility, this team potentially could be one of the better teams playing in Madison Square Garden. They are a year away from moving up to the top half of the conference in total wins.

This is why Hewitt thinks we’re all idiots. He pulls off 3 ACC wins, 2 in a row on the road, and we’re still talking about him as if one of us could do better. Leave him be. That is, as long as this streak stays alive.

Navigator are you going to be happy with a NIT run, then next year we can be in the top half of the conference?
My have far our expectations have fallen. Fighting once again to be a bubble team. (I’ve seen this movie too many times).
Didn’t we turn down a NIT bid one year under Cremins. If you can’t be one of 64 teams, who cares about the NIT. In eight years Hewitt has had us in the top half of the ACC how many times, once?…barely
