Hoops program continues rise
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I tuned in to WREK on Sunday, not sure what to expect. What I heard was what sounded like one of the best and most gutsy performances in recent Georgia Tech history.
One season after winning an NCAA tournament game for the first time in school history, the Tech women’s basketball team almost won a road game against the No. 4 team in the nation. In case you weren’t listening — and didn’t see the result in our Monday paper, or the story in today’s paper — Tech took Maryland to double overtime. By the time it was over, four Jackets players had fouled out, including three starters, but the Jackets never let up.
Tech is ranked No. 23 this week, its first ranking since 1993. On Thursday night, the Jackets play host to No. 10 Duke.
I’ll have a story online on Wednesday and in the paper on Thursday, and then I’ll cover the game. I will be curious to see how many people show at Alexander Memorial Coliseum for a game between two Top 25 teams, one of them a Tech team looking to score a signature victory.

I live in Nothern Virginia and drove up to College Park MD for the game. There were some Tech fans there, but of course most were Maryland fans. However, Tech outplayed Maryland even after the starters started to foul out. Alex Montgomery has a great game. I was very impressed by how the team never gave up. Folks, please get out there Thursday night for the game. The team deserves our support. They are just that good.

I am very proud ot the Lady Jackets and Coach Joseph. Its great to see a team with a little fire in their heart. Maybe, Coach Joseph needs to Coach the Boys team and FIRE HeWETT.
The ajc had rather cover high school BB than the Lady Basketball team. They don’t know what they’re missing. Keep up the good play Ladies.

Lady Jackets are on the verge of being THE story of Tech sports this winter/spring. The foundation Coach Joseph is building, rather methodically, appears geared for the long term. Fantastic!
We’re not quite (obviously) to the point of packing Alexander for Women’s games as a rule…but a good, raucous crowd on Thursday would be a start!
The Lady Jackets are well-positioned to gain a loyal following as they sustain their success. I’m already fired up about them! A few years ago I would have considered Womens’ BBall an afterthought. No more…
GO LADY JACKETS!!!!

Kudos to the lady jackets. At least one basketball program is rising, while the other sinks in the swamp. Am watching Tech play NC State now, and am not impressed at all. Good dunk by Smith and nice playing by Causey, but Hewitt simply isn’t getting the job done. 10, maybe 11, straight loses at NC State says it all.

Morrow with the ball at the end…brilliant…that is money in the bank!
Ref’s missed on both sides tonight….Bell looked like Mike J getting about four steps…but it was not walking! LOL
Win on the road-WOW!

I wish I lived in Atlanta so I could go to some games. What a great coach and squad. I hope that those of you that are local will start to go to games to support them and yell loud!!!
