Tech offense takes shape
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
What a difference one half of basketball can make in the impressions a team is giving.
Tech steamrolled Tennessee State after intermission, outscoring the Tigers 64-46 (defense was slack down the stretch, or it would’ve been worse).
There were several keys, including the Jackets hitting more shots in general than Friday. NOTHING was more important than Tech working the ball into the paint. Not only did the Jackets murder T-State there in point differential, but that opened the outside much more.
If Tech made no other adjustments between the first and second games, and they did, other than to commit to working the ball inside, the visual effect would have been significant. Where at times Friday, the offense looked to have little pattern, simply by running the offense through the post most of the time — whether eventually scoring from there, or outside — the offense suddenly appeared to take form. It had meaning, purpose.
That was more like it.
P.S. Don’t look for Zack Peacock to play in the Virgin Islands. I guess it’s possible, but after taking the walking boot off his right foot Wednesday, he began suffering more pain in workouts a few days later. The boot’s back on. I doubt seriously Hewitt’s going to rush it rather than play it conservative.

Haha, I was going to say you had a misprint because I thought the blog would be about Tech Football. Since you are talking about basketball, I’ll give you a pass (something Bennett can’t do).

There is no reason that Tech should beat UGA this year, which is exactly why the Dawgs should worry.

Hey Dawgman-
Is THAT what you say in the midst of a Cox-Stufford Tickle Pile?

Say what you want to about TECH’s offense, if we continue to give up 80+ a game it’s going to be a real long season. There are very few teams in the NCAA that can give up 80 on a constant basis and expect to win.

total wins come march/april are important, but more important are the acc games - so paul taking it easy on zack is good. they can recover from loses in december, especially with dickey and zack out, but not so in jan/feb/mar.
for tech to have a good season, they will need to find a leader and play blue collar basketball. the prima donnas are gone and anytime you lose two first round draft choices - especially as freshman when you could not recruit replacements, and an emotional defensive play in west, it bodes for a down year.
character and leadership are required to carry this team. we saw it four years ago, and hopefully we can see it this year.

Have we just now discovered that with mobile big men the offense should go through the post. Let Sheehan play into shape while we have the chance.

I was at the game and it seems to me that we have the parts. We need to get some chemistry and put together a whole game. As usual need some mental toughness cause I dont know many teams more athletic than us. Speaking of athletic: Matt why no mention of Smith’s ooop dunk? That was nasty!!!! It had fans of either team out of their seats well after the play. I wish someone would put that on youtube cause it was big time. Thanks and keep us posted on the team while they are in at the islands

TampaDawg, My sexuality is none of your business although there is certainly nothing wrong with being gay. Participating in a Tickle Pile does not make you gay. Many of us here at Tech simply enjoy the feeling of togetherness one receives.

A tickle pile is the reward for the player who sucessfully vanquishes the evil wizards, slays the ominous dragon, and mixes up the best potion spells in World of War Craft. Apparently hundreds of Korean and Indian nerds bust through the outter defenses of the hero’s “command center” naked and dive on top of the player rubbing their genitalia on each other.

Hey Yellowblood
It is so obvious that you are jealous of the UGA program! All you ever do is talk about UGA’s celebration of a GREAT win in OT against the Tide. Well, if the Nerd Nation ever did anything worth celebrating maybe you would shut up.
However, we all know that Tech stinks, always has and always will! I mean look at the numbers:
UGA has won 15 of the last 20 (I’m letting you keep the 3 vacated wins…for now)
UGA has won 36 of the last 50
Shall I continue??
I mean it is just total domination, and there is no end in sight for your PITIFUL program. Yes, I will admit there will come a day that Tech might suprise us and win a game against the Dawgs, but it will not happen often.
So, go ahead and keep looking like the dumba$$ that you are, while GT keeps sinking further below mediocricy…meanwhile UGA will continue to fight at the top of the College Football heap!
GO DAWGS!!

Twilb dawg you are right on the mark. How about those national championships. The score is 4-2 GT. UGA gets the best athletes in our state each year and some of the best athletes in the Southeast and your program makes our state look bad, I mean a national championship in 1980.. come on…that is PATHETIC..You need to go get on your porch, hike your leg, take a P** and Bark…

4-2 HA HA HA!! EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THAT IS A JOKE!!! NOT ONE OF THOSE ARE LEGIT! Also, the one in 1990 was a SPLIT NC!
But, if that is all you have to hang your hat on, good for you! You Nerds always claim that you won those titles back in the day of John Heisman. Who cares!?!?!
What matters is that UGA OWNS TECH, and always will!
I guess finishing in the TOP 10 every year does look bad huh, I guess you are better off not being on the College Football map at all and not finish in the Top 25 year in and year out…yeah that “represents the state”…Good one Dork!
I love you Nerds! You all are so easy to pick on…kind of like a little brother! A very Nerdy little brother that is.
I will see you Nov. 24th…oh wait, no I won’t because when UGA comes to town we turn “Historic” Grant Field into Sanford South! That reminds me, don’t get me started on how you have to advertise ticket packages in the AJC, and you still can’t sell-out your putrid little stadium!
GO DAWGS!!
