Tech, Virginia’s that is, had the better quarterback

The better quarterback wearing a Georgia Tech jersey Thursday was Virginia Tech’s Sean Glennon.

Glennon, wearing a borrowed and magic-marker-altered old Georgia Tech jersey because his Virginia Tech garb was discovered missing along with three others in the Hokies locker room, completed 22 of 32 passes for 296 yards and two TDs in a 27-3 win at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

Tech Taylor Bennett, on the other hand, struggled on national TV, completing only 11 of 26 for 157 yards and was intercepted four times.

Georgia Tech’s up and down season hit a serious low in the loss.

Now 5-4 overall, the Yellow Jackets has only the annual showdown with Georgia as a chance for redemption. But, remember, Chan Gailey is 0-5 against the Bulldogs.

WOW…that was pathetic. From the turnovers, to the jerseys on the other team, teletubbies remarks, to the wide open missed catches, to the…uh…turnovers. This game should have been played last night, could have scared alot of people. Not looking forward to the cross state rivalry, if it can be called that still. Don’t mind losing, but hate to beat ourself. Time for change???

Well, one thing is clear. While it is important to win the remaining ACC games, Tech is not going to a good bowl game or playing for any championship. The only thing that can redeem this season in any degree is a win over Georgia. Tech has the talent and Georgia is spotty this year. Another loss to Georgia on top of the ACC record would be a heartbreaker.

Not sure why the other QB’s aren’t starting by now but other options should have been explored. Nothing against the kid but TB is not a division I QB. Tech will be hard pressed to win another game with him at the helm and qualify for a bowl game somewhere. This was evident in week 1,2,3 and so on…. No problem with giving him a chance but that was embarassing and this is this best GT can roll out. I guess it’s a basketball school any how so thank goodness its almost that time!

The performance tonight was just pathetic. Our team is boring plays uninspired football. The defense is good enough to win most games but we have a division II offense. I intensely dislike UGA but I must admit that at least those guys play with heart. Where’s ours. Where’s the fire. Where’s the desire. I put most of this on Gailey although even a brilliant coach (which he surely is not) likely can’t coach a win through 5 turnovers.

I’m anxious to hear from all of the Chan supporters who were excited following the Army win. I am all ears as to how and why we continue to employ this man. Please speak up morons, because enough is enough. Yet another lackluster game with no fire from our team. And definitely a good call to platoon Dwyer and Evans. Are you kidding me?- how more crystal clear can it be that we should have gone with Dwyer all night. Chan said on the post game show, “no keep in mind he is just a freshman.” clearly his call and yet another bad one. No guts no glory. Chan is a sham.

If Tech had any decent recruits they would leave now. Between the crappy losses and the now imminent firing of the coach, it’s time for any kids with other offers to start looking elsewhere. You can pretty much rest assured that if Chan loses to the Dawgs again he’ll be fired and most of the kids coming in will go elsewhere. Here’s to the next ten years of Tech futility!

It’s time to Can-the-Chan. Once again, he did not have GT prepared to play. I am sick and tired of having to stick-up for Tech week after week and year after year. It all goes back to coaching. I am sick of Chan Gailey. He has, once again, embarrassed GT on national TV. IT is time for him to go.

By JD

I don’t put this on Bennett. This is on Gailey. He is the one constant on this team. Suggs was never any good and Reggie never got better either. That is Chan’s fault, not the kids’. If he had a record of improving players, then I would say it’s the kids’ fault for not learning. I, however, suspect they are doing exactly what he tells them because they all perform similarly.

I thought that we should be patient but having now had UGA beat the past three years and coming away with nothing and still with the up and down nonsense every year, it is time for him to move on. I don’t know who we could get but that is a discussion I would like to have.

How many games, seasons, can a coach stick with ONE QB without attempting to go to the bench to see what the backup can do? Dwyer not starting? That kid is a beast and could have at least run through a few tackles to keep our defense off the field for a few minutes during the first half. Not being ready for that onsides kick about made me sick. Give Nesbitt or Booker a friggin chance. Nesbitt may be young but he has big play ability and if given the chance to throw could be pretty good. Can someone please explain the thinking here? What is wrong with our receivers? JJ made some catches but fumbled away a play that would have come back due to a penalty and could have made a dive to catch the pass from Nesbitt that was overthrown. What is wrong with Greg Smith? Catch the ball. So many flaws but it is obvious that we are OVERFLOWING with talent on this team that is being wasted. Our O-Line is dominant and it is a shame we can’t sustain a drive. Let the kids play Chan and quit going by the book for a change. If we are going to lose 27-3 with 6 turnovers, let’s at least have our best athletes on the field trying to make the plays. By the way, I am so happy that my $200 per seat Tech Fund contribution went to pay for a halftime show that I could not even hear. At least 80% of it is tax deductible.

Isn’t it time for Nesbitt to play the rest of the season? Bennett has shown he cant do the job, the WVU game last season was an anomaly. Last season UGA canned Tereshinski and went with Stafford the rest of the way. He took his lumps but is better off this season because of it.

Let’s see. Frank Beamer is the head coach and the special teams coach. VT loves to do special things with their special teams. I have never, NEVER, seen an onside kick so uncovered. It all goes downhill. Turnovers, yeah we’re pushing. But we were way overcoached. I hate to jump on the bandwagon because I’ve seen this going on unnecessarily for years. But the time has come. We have excellent young men working the trenches for us and I do not think they are being lead into the games with the proper preparation. I do not know if it takes Mike Ditka or Bobby Petrino, but Chan Gailey is not doing the job.

I swear it looked like someone kidnapped Chandler Gailey’s dog and said “we’re gonna kill it unless you come out with the absolute WORST gameplan and TRY YOUR BEST TO LOSE THIS GAME”…So that’s what he did!

The problem is it’s not even necessary to kidnap the mutt, since this is PURE GAILEY FOOTBALL week in and week out. The difference this year is Reggie Ball is no longer his weekly Fall Guy like he was USED for 4 years.

Bennett’s told to throw at the best corners in the ACC and — SURPRISE — he gets picked and picked often. Glennon quickly dumps off and it works like a dream. Was J Johnson surprised to get the ball thrown his way tonight? Who benched Dwyer after he was steamrolling anyone in his way early in the game?!?! Third stringer RB breaking big runs?

This truly looked like a game that Chandler Gailey was TRYING TO LOSE…But then again, how many UGA games have looked that way…And the punted ACC Champ last year…And the WV Blowout thrown in REVERSE in the Gator Bowl…Etc, ad nauseum.

I’m starting the think that since nobody will HIRE Chandler Gailey away from GT, he’s deterined to make sure he is FIRED away from GT…

I hate to say I pull for Tech when you guys aren’t playing the Dawgs, but somtimes I do, and tonight I was ready to see you whip Va Tech, or at least WIN by a small margin. That was some of the sloppiest football I’ve ever seen in my life. Hope we are through seeing Chan apologists on these blogs. I was patient with this man for 5 years. Yes, I have been frustrated prior to this year, but I really thought Chan could evolve and learn, but when I saw how predictable and conservative the offense was at the beginning of this season, I knew he was never going to change. Under Chan, our offense is offensive and the poor quarterbacks get worse and worse. I really believe that if Chan had coached Joe or Shaun, they would have been considered average to poor college QBs also, but thank God he did not coach those young men!!

He must go, and I agree with many who have stated that tomorrow would not be too soon!!

to my fellow dogs,it is bad form to talk smack to a team’s fans after a loss, tech fans, please accept my apology.i watched the game and i am perplexed.why did they stop running dwyer?i read somewhere that chan said it was because he is a freshman.hello chan,it’s november now!moreno is a red shirt freshman i know, but he hadn’t played a down of college football untill september and he had 33 carries against the gators, because brown and lumpkin were injured.why take a guy out when he is hot?several things about tech’s program perplex me,and i have mentioned them on you blogs.so far i have gotten few answers.i live in south ga,and looking at your recruits i haven’t seen anyone signed from here in years, except one kid from columbus and one from hawkinsville.i know tech’s admissions standards are higher than the norm, but you can’t tell me that only two of the good athletes from this area in the past four or five years can be admitted to tech.fsu, auburn, and clemson have been working this area for years,so you will get to see these boys again,on the other sidelines.not to mention all the ones wearing red and black.while on the recruiting sites i also noticed that tech signed no o linemen in 06,a couple in 07,and so far has only one o line recruit for 08.you have a good, veteran line now, loaded with jrs and seniors, but they will be gone in the next two years, and unless you are very lucky you will lose a few others to injurys, personal problems,or grades.who is going to replace them?a team needs to sign at least three or four o linemen every year.as a dog i can tell you what happens when you are forced to play freshmen there.i don’t want to hog all the space, but if any of you techsters has an answer i would like a response.

When I read the comment about the on-side kick,,,”I told Frank that was a gutsy call”,,,,, it pretty much wrapped up Chan in a single comment. NO GUTS, NO INNOVATION, NO USING WHAT YOU HAVE IN CREATIVE WAYS TO WIN! I have been a season ticket holder for 19 years. I can’t get to the games anymore due to where I live, but I am very frustrated with the “program” as a whole. I am proud of these kids, but not the leadership of the staff! Without their leader, T Choice, it’s pretty clear the Jackets never expected to win this game. Chan Gailey may be a nice guy, as many people say - I’ve never met him, so I don’t know. What is clear is than Chan is not the right coach for this program. Now Tech is going to beat Duke and NC, get clocked by Georgia YET AGAIN, and then go to a minor bowl game and lose to another mediocre team that’s really geeked up for the game. And we’ll get to watch Georgia play in a New Year’s day game. Another 7-6 season for the Jackets..yet another year of being a second-tier program in our own town. GTech has to get a real coach for the program to ever rise above mediocrity.

For once I agree with Mark Bradley, ugh. John Tenuta is so overrated. What good are 6 sacks if everytime we don’t get a sack they get a TD or a long gain. He never changes. He is going to blitz no matter the opposition. Teams are adapting to this. Its like a baskteball player that only dunks and can’t shoot a lick. Chan is the problem only if he does not clean house after this season and get a new D-coordinator and a quarterback coach. How bad must the other QB’s on the roster be if they couldn’t beat our Reggie and Taylor.

Last night was a laugh a minute. From your defense being exposed by one of the sorriest ACC Offenses, to “Tinkie Winkie” Bennett being exposed for his costume on Halloween, to the commentators talking about Tech playing in the “blue carpet” bowl again, to the camera panning in the student section and not seeing one good looking college female, to your “band” playing dorky songs such as “school’s out for Summer” and Beyonce (yeah, they don’t date much),… Good times!!! WHEN YOU SAY GEORGIA TECH, YOU’VE SAID IT ALL! GO DAWGS!

By Observer

What a poorly played game by BOTH teams. The ACC is even worse than it was last year, and that is saying alot. This was supposed to be one of the ACC’s premier matchups of the season. I was there and you could take a nap in that place in the middle of the 1st quarter. It was a complete snoozefest. The offenses were boring, unimaginative, and predictable. I haven’t really seen Glennon that much since last year’s Peach Bowl but the guy has made absolutely zero improvement. VT’s offensive line is terrible. I would speak to the emotion level, but there was absolutely ZERO emotion. Both teams were sleepwalking through the entire game. And don’t get me started on the turnovers, a tell tale sign of an undisciplined team. Last night’s game was an embarassment to college football.

But I did enjoy the Tech fans behind me crying about Georgia’s ranking this week. Hilarious yet pathetic at the same time.

Tech fans can make excuses all day long (and we all know they will), but there is no excuse for what we’ve seen this season out of Georgia Tech football. They can be much better than that. Nevertheless, Gailey will win his 7 games, take them to the Hertz Rental Car Bowl or whatever its called these days, and we’ll be right back here next year having this same discussion. See you then.

By reasonablefan

November 2, 2007 9:09 AM | Link to this

I don’t think Georgia is all that strong and could possibly lose to Auburn and/or Ky BUT they at least are consistent and have improved. Tech, no way have they improved. They are consistent with losing to any decent team they play. With the way this season has gone countrywide it is not our of the realm that Tech could play that great game and beat Georgia. But then Tech will probably lose to Duke or NC. Its a crazy year. But last night was an embarrassment with the fans gone by the 4th qt and the announcers trying to ammuse themselves talking about telly-tubbies and Boise and favorite halloween stories. If its that bad quit putting Tech on Thursday night football. Its two times this year and two real embarrassments for the program and school and fans.

By Devil Jim

November 2, 2007 9:38 AM | Link to this

You cry baby Tech fans may be able to run Gailey off but you all need to be sure that he takes “Mr. Blitz” Tenuta and his all or nothing defensive strategy with him. Last nights game was lost by the defensive scheme that allowed VTech to burn the Jerkits every time the blitz didn’t get to Glennon. If Tenuta is such a defensive genius why does Martinez at Georgia always have a higher ranked more effective defense that Tenuta manages to put on the field? Hopefully my Duke Blue Devils will drive the final nail in the Gailey-Tenuta-Bond coffin and get rid of the whole bunch but, what decent coach in his right mind would want the Tech job. Maybe you can hire someone from Division II or III or an assistant from some school who hopes to make a name for himself and get a good job at a school that has a chance to be consistently good.

Hate to say it but Gailey must remain at least 2 more years.

Then our coaching search will only have to go about 4 miles. He’s right there for the taking. We just have to time it right.

Hey firechangailey.com, a wise man once said, “he who is free of sin may cast the first stone”. I think Tech shouldn’t talk s** until you have enough wins to become bowl eligible. Tech=Duke. You’re nothing but a bunch of virgin, World of Warcraft all-americans.

If Taylor Bennett had been driving drunk last night, he would have crashed his car right into a Krispy Kreme shop.

You can speak with disrespect for Duke all that you want, but I believe that Georgia Tech is the last ACC team that Duke defeated.
