Only one Tech came to play Thursday

If you stayed up and watched Georgia Tech, to the end, you’re probably steaming. If you’re no longer up, you were probably on fire when you went to sleep.

The Yellow Jackets could’ve used some of your heat Thursday night. Instead, they were smoked 27-3.

This game was never close, really, as the Jackets barely gave a thought to hanging onto the ball, and Virginia Tech looked like the Hokies of old.

Nobody ever wins throwing five interceptions and losing a fumble (except the Dallas Cowboys, on Monday Night Football, when they play the Buffalo Bills).

You could sort of see bad news coming (but not like this), when the Jackets attempted seven passes and just four runs in the fourth quarter. Sure, Virginia Tech has a very, very stout run defense, and Tashard Choice and Rashaun Grant didn’t play. But why give up on the run before giving it a fair shake, especially when passing hasn’t been your thing all season?

The Jackets did it at Miami, and fell behind. They got away with that, though, because the Hurricanes don’t have a killer defense and Georgia Tech got back to running in the second half. That’s possible when you trail 7-0, not when you’re behind 17-3 at half, and falling behind bigger fast thanks to all the turnovers.

Give Virginia Tech credit. Their offensive game plan was solid, built largely around the concept of throwing outside the numbers. If the Jackets ever made an adjustment, it didn’t work very well.

Throw in a totally unexpected — by Georgia Tech — onsides kick by Virginia Tech after the Hokies tied the game at 3, and you’ve got the ingredients for a mess.

Forget the ACC Championship Game. I expected more Thursday night and this season.

You gotta look at the bright side. We’re one step closer to the end of the Chan Gailey era.

Is there STILL a moron out there anywhere who thinks Chandler Gailey is THE head coach for GT?

EMBARRASSING…COMPLETELY OUTCOACHED…ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. Sound familiar? Yep, It’s Goober Gailey Ball, It’s Goober Gailey Ball! [puke! puke!]

The bowl streak isn’t enough anymore. Chan better beat the Mutts. Six seasons is enough to prove if you’ve got what it takes and Chan just doesn’t. Period.

I watched the entire game and really feel bad for our guys. I know they didn’t want the game to turn out like it did, but we have to face the facts. Games like tonight have been a reoccurring theme in the Gailey era at GT. I think DRAD has to realize that the GT fan base is tired of these blow out losses when the national spotlight turns to Atlanta. It’s time for a change and I’m not talking about a change in ticket pricing. As season ticket holders, we make an investment in this football program. Our investment clearly is not paying off. It’s time to cut our losses and start over with a new HC who will bring a new energy to this team.

Yes, this kind or national exposure will really help recruiting. An onsides kick in the first quarter. GT never touched the ball. Once again, superb coaching. 6 turnovers. I could go on but I am becoming nauseous. Thank God football season is over for this year. Maybe next year we will have an actual football coach.

You’re right, credit goes to VT. But I thought this team was to be Gailey’s most talented. For an offensive guru, there sure isn’t alot of QB development. Suggs, Bilbo, Ball, Bennett (so far). need I say more? A better team won, but you can’t let your defense stay on the field that long. The D has shown when it falls behind early they can tighten up, but the O has got to get something going. I know I have no flow to my thoughts, I am just SO SICK OF MEDIOCRE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!! Do the right thing D Rad. I will always support my team, but I know it can be better.

Wow…another ill prepared plan (was it a plan??)

Without a healthy Choice, Tech is offensive…

Remind me again how tough coach T has this D.

Ever heard of a dead team walking?

One thing for sure, this was not mediocrity…far less!

Do we have to stand for this???? Where is all the talent development I see at other programs. QB development under an “offensive guru”? Suggs, Bilbo, Ball, Bennett (so far)? David Greene was not the next great hope of UGA, but look what that staff did with him. This is maddening!!!! D Rad, take the financial hit at seasons end and re-energize this program. Please!

To WhiteAndGold and Jack@$$24:

Georgia Tick just repeated history. They got the lowest point total, 3 points, since 2004 whe you guys got beat by Miami. Do you still dare talk smack about other football teams? Oh that’s right, you guys want to talk about how classless Georgia is for being motivated. Well, well, how classy is it when the home team steals the visiting team’s equipment! Classy indeed you hypocrites!!! TECH SUCKS!!!

Matt, I got on your case pretty bad about the Chan rumors last week. I apologize. Let the rumors fly and let us hope there is truth to them. I’ve seen enough of emotionless Chan, which carries over to his team. This team has talent. Enough talent to at least challenge for the ACC crown. What we lack is motivation. I’ve tried to be forgiving, but tonight’s performance ended any optimism that GT, under Gailey, will ever be more than a mediocre, at best, football team. It pains me to use this example, but Richt found a way to inspire motivation in his team last week. All I’ve seen during Chan’s tenure is a head coach seemingly devoid of emotion. Folded arms, headset on, staring at the ground, after mistake after mistake, after mistake, tells me that there is a serious lack of motivation and inspiration at the top. Nothing personal against the man. I wish him the best at whatever his next pursuit may be. However, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. D. Rad - Please start the search and find a guy who has a little fire in his belly.

Very disappointing performance tonight. As much as I like Chan as a quality person and representative for Georgia tech, it’s time for a change. Taylor Bennet and our receivers were awful. Our defensive secondary was slow and out of position all night and consequently gave up way too many big plays.

But as bad as the team played, the coaching was worse. You have to be able to make adjustments. Even with the poor first half and turnovers, this was still a winnable game in the second half. Our coaching staff simply failed to make the adjustments necessary to win the game.

This team has some young talent. Its time to start preparing for the future. Bench Taylor and James Johnson. They had their opportunity and didn’t perform. Put the ball in Nesbit and Dwyer’s hands and let’s see what they can do if given a full game and full slate of plays (beyond quarterback draw).

7-5 (maybe) and another emerald bowl. Winless against some very average dog teams. Yes, it is finally time for Chan to go.

What I want to know is:

When are some of these AJC-types gonna start PRINTING what everyone KNOWS: Chandler Gailey is a LOSER Head Coach who has COMPLETELY worn out his welcome at GT?!?!

I mean, are they afraid they’re gonna piiss off the GT Fans or something? THREE POINTS?! when Goober himself said:

“It’s just like Monday Night Football in the NFL,” Yellow Jackets coach Chan Gailey said. “You do get the national stage.”

What an opportunity to show EVERYONE just how INCOMPETENT and completely overmatched this guy is in a head coaching position…Who would even hire him as an OC? Three points to go with his SIX points in the ACC Champ game he punted away last year!!!

Come on AJC — It’s time to take off the gloves and call a CLUELESS head coach exactly what he is: CLUELESS! I’m sick and tired of the EXCUSES being made FOR Chandler Gailey and his ineptness. Someone in the print media needs to RIP HIM A NEW ONE over this total embarrassment and SHAM of a “National Stage” performance!!

Can’t you guys stop applauding Richt for nearly INSTIGATING all-out fisticuffs long enough to take a few jabs at Chandler Gailey??? I suppose a Knockout Punch would be asking too much, huh?

Well, I predicted this would happen and after seeing the SAME pattern for six years is it any wonder that Ga. Tech would lose tonight. I am actually roting for the other teams now just to GET GAILEY THE HELL OUT OF HERE!!!!! I am sick and tired of this crap. Bobby Ross and O’Leary got excellent results with A LOT LESS talent. D-Rad has GOT to put a stop to this. The fan base is tired of it and I know the season ticket holders must be. Chan Gailey admitson 790 the zone yesterday that “..the Georgia game is just another game”. Is it any wonder why we suck so bad??? CHAN HAS GOT TO GO AND NOW!!!!!

By StingerSplash

How many starters was Va. Tech missing or lost during the game? And they didn’t miss a beat. Why? COACHING! They have it. Ga. Tech does not. If it wasn’t clear before, it is abundantly obvious now, even to a Georgia fan. Gailey must go.

Shut up GTSucks, There was no evidencce of foul play with the jerseys. And guess what UGA is still completely classless. Nothing to do with motivation there. Take your obnoxiousness back to the UGA board. No one cares here.

Anyway absolute terrible game. I can’t remember when we’ve been this bad. Did the team even show up? Can the coaches not get the team ready for play? They had an extra week and come out looking flatter than ever before. Bennett was horrendous. The line couldn’t block. We abandoned the run. The corners can’t defend. Did anyone show up for the game besides the punter? What’s going on here? This has gotten ridiculous. Totally embarassing. Way to show up on national TV. Now everyone knows how much we really suck. I’m starting to agree here. It’s time for Chan to go.

Did anyone notice how Beamer left his first string offense in the whole game? Ridiculous. Have a little sportsmanship will ya? You had the game clearly in hand.

Hey Matt, would you mind letting Mark Bradley know that our defense was on the field for 38 minutes, last night? I agree with him that Tenuta doesn’t adjust as early as he should, sometimes, but like it’s been said, it was a two score game at halftime. I wonder what the atmosphere in the locker room must be like…

Also, Dwyer had 10 rushes, they went like this: 14 yards, 14, no gain, 2, 3, 12, 2, 9, 9. All I kept thinking was “This is great, now is the time for Gailey’s automatic ‘keep running it’ approach, and it has never made more sense!” And what did he do? Kept the ball OUT of the hands of the most motivated looking player on our offensive.

That’s what I don’t get about Gailey’s coaching. He runs when we should be passing, he passes when we should be running; he pulls people who are making plays, and sticks with guys who are not making plays. It’s absolutely maddening. Why didn’t he tell Bond, “Look, just feed it to Dywer, and cut out all that long ball mess”. Even down two scores, if we had run off some of the clock and given our defense a chance to rest, the whole team would have been better served.

The passes Bennet was completing were between 10-20 yards. Why can’t we ever STICK with those passes? Why must we always throw the long ball?

When people wonder why we Tech fans still think Gailey is calling the shots, we think back to 6 years of patterned play-calling: run it up the middle, run it up the middle, throw it deep down the sideline.

By the way, the Nesbitt to Johnson play that should have been (and was the closest thing to good playcalling we saw all night, VT totally bit on the play), came with 10 minutes to play in the 3rd quarter. Who doesn’t think that would have changed the momentum of the game? We would have been down by one score, and the crowd would have been electric.

3rd and 15 for Virginia Tech, and they complete a 71 yard TD pass. Yeah…our corner had it well covered, but what was he doing out there alone anyways.

It looked like we had just Morgan Burnett back to help on the deep balls, and he went to cover the receiver on the other side of the field.

4th & 2, down three scores, and we punt it away. Yeah, we got a fumble and got the ball back, but Chan Gailey was not expecting that to happen (as the ESPN announcers alluded to). Chan was playing to keep it close, not to come back and win.

But then again, Chan Gailey didn’t throw 4 interceptions. But why did he put Evans back in when Dwyer was steamrolling everything in sight?

Luckily…my emotion for Georgia Tech football was lost when Boston College rolled us, so I’m actually in a decent mood today.

That said, we need to take a hard look at DRAD. His “not responsible” period has been over. Look at the results of his AD program: 1. Team results - very mediocre 2. Gradution rate- lowest in the ACC 3. NCAA compliance -average What else is there to evaluate ? We can’t tolerate this.

They say a team mirrors the personality of its coach. Nothing was more disgusting for an explayer to watch than our lifeless performance against VT. Having lived in Ohio for a bit I became a huge Jim Tressle fan. They were supposed to be rebuilding. Watch them play.no stupid mistakes.always in the right place. Last Time I looked they called that coaching. We need some new blood in there. Why was everyone surprised when Mr. mediocrity applied for the Dolphins job..Hacks me off he didn’t get it. He’ll probably really chap me off and luck up and beat Georgia…….Hard to root against my team.but I hope UGA embarrasses us like the MD, Vir, and VT games.Enough already!

Gailey is a good man, just maybe not the best motivator. The QB situation is bad this year, but has it been good since Shawn Jones left in ‘91? Sure Joe Hamilton had some bright spots, but no other QB has been consistent. And what’s with our defense this year? Matt Ryan and Sean Glennon could throw almost at will, we cannot seem to cover the sides of the field, and we block one long ball only to let the next one turn into a super gain for the other team. Has Tenuta lost the ability to set up a defense? Fingers are pointed at Gailey, but maybe it’s an overall attitude amongst staff and players that it’s ok to be 7-5 year after year and get edged by UGA to cap off the season. If this Nesbitt kid is supposed to be so good, someone should have noticed it in practice and brought it to Gailey’s attention. I’m all for letting Bennett play now since he had to sit on the bench and watch Reggie throw incomplete passes and interceptions, but maybe the whole program needs a shakeup, from the staff to the players. It seems we have a bright future with Dwyer and Nesbitt, let’s hope the coaches see that in the offense, and maybe one day there will be a glimpse of the old “Black Watch” again!
