Patrick lost, Tech will win
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m 3-3 at these predictions. That stinks.
So, I’ll digress again.
I’ve received a request, via my wife from somebody out there, not to blog about my son’s football team. Ultimately, maybe I will, maybe I won’t. But today, to honor that request for at least the short term, I’ll blog instead about his political aspirations.
He’s a fifth grader, and was tabbed student council representative for his home room. I don’t know how; I don’t think I’ll ask, either.
He’s very excited about all of this, which comes as a mild surprise, but nothing like the shock I experienced when he said he wanted to run for class secretary. Patrick is equipped to be class secretary about like Michael Brown was to run FEMA. Yes, he can write. No, he’s not overly organized or one to separate the wheat from the chaff (sp?) and therefore take copious and relevant notes. I don’t think. Maybe he would have surprised me.
Anyway, he lost the election to a girl he said, “Had four paragraphs in her [campaign] speech,” to the fourth and fifth grade classes.
Naturally, this prompted a question. How big was your speech?
“Three sentences. I said, ‘Please vote for me. I’ll do a good job. If you vote for me, all your wildest dreams will come true.’ “
Man, I knew I shouldn’t have let him watch that movie. My son’s drawing inspiration from Napolean Dynamite! I wonder if this is a bad sign? One of his friends even made a sign that read, “Vote for Patro.”
Enough frivolity. Back to this prediction stuff.
I’m terrible at this. That, or Tech is stiffing me.
Tech 20, Miami 17. Jackets get points from defense, or a strange special teams play. This is the way this team seems to roll.
Have a nice weekend.
Matt

I findy your writing about your son to be much more interesting than any writing about Tech football.

Matt I’d demand a recount. Get lawyers involved if you have to!!!
It should be a barn burner…
Let’s see Gailey vs. Nix, man, if that don’t get your blood boiling, you must be in the Antarctica. Two Offensive Genius’s head to head. Brothers and Sister’s we got a ball game! GT 3 Miami 0, Travis Bell 52 yard FG with no time remaining.

Matt, I fear you brought on the cease and desist order from your wife yourself when you started complaining to us about about her decisions regarding the reunion and the football game. I had a feeling that would get back to her.
Keep blogging about whatever you want. I’ve enjoyed your blog, and I’ll keep reading regardless how off-topic (with regards to Tech) it gets. Actually, I feel kind of bad for you having to blog about an underachieving, schizophrenic team to a disillusioned fan base. Can’t be easy to come up with something to chat about every day to us. Oh, well. As you’ve said, hoops is just around the corner. That should buy us a little time, at least, before we become disillusioned and start complaining about Hewitt, officiating, etc.
Oh, and I’ve totally given up on being able to predict this team. The key is K. Wright. If he’s poised in the pocket and makes good, quick decisions against our blitz, Miami wins. Three TDs from Miami and they’re a lock! No way I see our team scoring more than 20 down there.

By the way,
My wife, daughters and mother-in-law just left for Virginia and the reunion. The little man is staying. Still, I’ve got to drop him off at the coach’s house tomorrow at 6:45 a.m. (8:30 game), and go catch a flight. Then, he’s spending the night with a buddy, shuttled there by my father (who has a wedding tomorrow evening).
And the request actually came from one of my wife’s customers. She merely relayed it. I’d bet she’s never once read a blog of any kind. It’s not in her wheelhouse.
Anyhow, onward to yard work. What a day to be outside.

Few want to see tech win more than me. But you have to consider Miami’s defensive front against our banged up O-line.
Miami 17 - Tech 7

Win an ACC game? Why start now?
Good luck to you, your son and the jackets, Matt.

It will be a close one, but I think Miami wins 17-10. Miami is upset (understatement) to lose to NC (Basketball School) and it will look to vent now. They had momentum from the last game coming back from a huge deficit, but still fell short. I believe the Nix factor is a wash. Yeah we know his gameplan, but he knows our schemes. The X-factor is can T-Choice run successfully inside against Miami’s inexperienced (and nicked DTs and past their MLB (their starter is out with a concussion and he it their best). If the running game pans out forget about covering we can win outright!

As Matt’s blog exuded, Tech’s football program has become a sidebar. Wake me up when a real football coach is hired at Georgia Tech.

Here comes another conservative CHAN GAILEY loss to Miami. Nix is terrible but he will find a way to beat the amazing Gailey. **I was gonna go to the Army game but I dont think I am if Chan is still the coach.

Tech probably finds a way to eek this one out, and Chan will think everything is great…He still thinks that if you win more than you lose, you will probably make the NFL playoffs. CHAN: This is not the NFL! We need to win 10 or more games to have any chance at going to the big games at the end of the year, but maybe you think that any bowl is a big game???
Chan must go, and he must go no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s game.

I believe that Chan is a good practice and program (organizational and recruiting) coach. I also believe that he’s a terrible “game day” coach. I’m a former high school OC and agree that it’s easy to be an “armchair QB.” However, I told my son BEFORE the last set of downs at Virginia what Chan was going to do. I didn’t foresee the hold but did comment that something bad would happen and the FG wouldn’t be a “gimme.” Tech’s offense had shredded Maryland’s defense in the second half. Why wouldn’t Chan let the players play? Because he’s Chan! Bond must be drinking heavily these days. He didn’t call those last four plays of his own volition.

Headlines we’d love to see:
JACKETS BEAT MIAMI IN 42-31 SHOOTOUT Bennett On Target to Glue-Fingers Sunday, October 14, 2007 AJC
Georgia Tech’s defensive secondary again failed to show up in the Orange Bowl, as Miami’s Hurricanes attempted to repeat the success through the air achieved by Virginia and Maryland in recent upsets. Quarterback Taylor Bennett, however, fought fire with fire, this time, connecting on 21 of 33 passes, including 45 and 59 yard touchdowns, as the Yellow Jackets blah, blah, blah - -“

GT 17 - UM 14 after another slow start on offense the Jackets made some excellent adjustments at half time. Go John Bond! The offensive line played a great game with all the injuries. Now if the QB and receivers could get connected, this team would be back on the right track.
That was a real gut-check by GT.
A good win.
