Another blowout; not!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Boy, I blew it big time here last Friday by predicting a comfortable Tech win. My mistakes: thinking Tech would be ready to play emotionally and schematically only to be dead wrong on both those counts; and under-estimating not only Matt Ryan, but B.C. at large.
Tech 24, Virginia 22.
Hopefully, I’m closer to respectable this week. I think Tech is clearly a better team, but despite what players and coaches might say, their confidence has to be dentable if not dented. If this game starts out poorly, it will be interesting to see how it unfolds from there.
I’m surprised Tashard Choice is well enough to start. Don’t wanna ruin him for several more weeks. I’m not going to be surprised if his stay is brief. Then again, I won’t be surprised if he goes the whole way (with breaks on the way, of course).
Anyway, if forced to predict another lopside and a surprise of sorts as well, I’d guess that the Tech passing game this week will be better than it’s been so far. I’m not a big believer in the Virginia pass defense, and I think Taylor Bennett and Co. are ready to figure it out.
Matt

Any road win for this team would be tremendous. A 10 point win would be terrific.

Seems like a pretty quick recovery for Tashard. I think Mr. Choice might be hearing Mr. Dwyer’s footsteps!

If UVAgina scores more than 7 points on your team then you really suck….how come somethings tells me your queers will make a nailbighter out of this. OH yeah, btw, nice “marketing” with Big Boi but I think Zelda and Froto Baggins are more ya’lls speed.

Reason doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Tech’s chances in Charlottesville. There have been other years when Tech was favored more highly than this year. It’s spooky. Since the 1990 season Tech has won in Athens twice, at Death Valley three times, at Auburn once, and at Miami once, plus some other big road wins, as well as beating Virginia six times in Atlanta. I’ll believe it, and celebrate, when I see it.

I’m still shocked (okay, not so much) how many dumb mutts still come over to our blog. Your Western Carolina win was less than our Samford win. And at least we lost to a ranked team!
Tech playing in Charlottesville has always been an adventure for some reason. I hope that this year we can break that spell. I will be shocked to see our players come out flat after the loss.
I’m concerned about Choice. I hope he doesn’t play too much and risk injuring his leg more.

Speaking of “dumb”, Western Carolina is ranked 182, Samford is ranked 198. So, no, Samford is not better.
Also, if you knew how to read a poll, you’d see that SC is ranked 12th in the AP. So, yes, we did lose to a ranked team.
Hope this helps you cope with your “shock”, gnat.

Hi, I attend tech. I am a queer. The reason I went to tech is it was the closest college to great bars like the backstreets and the heratic. I also like to bake and sew and play video games. I sometimes play video games all night, until I pull a muscle in my thumb, and then I quit, because the thumb is not only useful for video games.
Anyway, Can we get a better mascot than a bumble bee? Those things really bother me and are pests. How about something that really shows our true school spirit, like a scantily dressed fireman, or an Indian with only a loin-cloth on! Yeah, I would like that. If anyone wants to contact me, and look like Right-Said-Fred, please email me at gaytechboy@gatech.com.

Poorpups, Just me. Did you ever think that the reason some Dawg fans do this is because some stupid a* tech geek is on our blog? He is probably trying to hack into the AJC servers right now to see how he can sabatoge the UGA blog site. Tell your nerds to stay off our blog, and we won’t have to come over here and straighten you geeks out.

UVA’s defensive line whips Tech’s forward wall like BC strongmen did. So Tech obviously can’t rush the ball. It’s also a “given” that Tech won’t pass effectively.
UVA “tests” Tech’s cornerbacks (so will everybody else, this year), and throws TD’s. UVA wins.

We just don’t know what type of team we have yet, as the first two games really are’nt indicative at this point. The third game though is. There is potential but what is a little concerning is the cockiness/attitude or whatever coming from the the locker basically saying we should run the table. Well, hello we got run over last weekend and it’s going to be a hard row with UVA, Miami, VT, UNC, Maryland, Clemson and even Duke in front of us. The Virginia game will give us more information. Hopefully it will be good information.

Dane, USC was not ranked when you played them, BC was when we played them. BC will ranked higher than SC after this week and by the end of the season 9top 10) and worth more BCS points to us than USC to you.

Jamie Dawg couldn’t get into GT or UVA if his life depended on it. One year of community college is my guess for you Jamie. If you did cheat your way into UGA, you probably passed that basketball exam UGA was passing out a few years back. Pay your bills, cut your hair, wash your van and stay on the UGA blog where people think you’re a hero.

Look for a low scoring game. BC was able to negate our blitz by going to maximum protection. Even with only a couple of receivers in pattern, with ample time, Ryan was able to dissect our secondary. UVA’s QB won’t be that accurate.
Surely Gailey/Bond will come up with something more innovative for the offense.
My sense is that Choice’s quick recovery may signal that his removal was more preventive in nature than we were led to believe. Gailey’s too hard-headed to let Choice talk him into a quick rebound if he was really hurt all that badly.
We will have to continue our relatively error-free performance as far as turnovers and special teams. A costly gaffe in those areas could easily swing this game.
I’m looking for a GT win, 17-13 or 14-10.

“Stupid redneck UGAg fans just HAS to raise their hind legs and pee on everything…..No wonder so many other schools fans hate them as much aw we do….”
Actually other fans don’t hate Georgia quite as much as Georgia Tech fans, simply because their teams actually beat Georgia more than once very decade. Funny how that works.
Does a day go by that a lab geek doesn’t blame Georgia for all the problems in their lives? Can’t get a girlfriend? Its UGA’s fault. Didn’t beat your roommate in Doom? Damn UGA fans are ruining my life. Get blasted at home by BC? UGA cheated for BC. And on and on we go.
At some point you have to ask yourselves lab geeks, is cheering for Georgia Tech football really worth it?

Not real impressed with our so-called “great defense”. We better outscore these guys, because I don’t think our defense can stop the passing game.
Run Dwyer, Run Dwyer, and Run Dwyer again. Don’t waste possessions giving the ball to Grant or Evans.

Another very Gaileyesque game so far—21-17 at the half. I believe we are the better team, but it is not clear that we can—or even should win. Bond’s inexperience in big time college football is evident. Taylor Bennett does not have that certain something—I don’t know if his mechanics are poor, or whether he has yet to shake the ill effects of Patrick Nix, but something is not right. UVA is a very average team, and they are beating us on toughness and fundamentals right now. Where is our famous O-line? Two batted passes in the first half—one took a crazy bounce against us and was returned—but they aren’t supposed to be tipped in the first place. Tenuta’s halo is slipping. Virginia is ripping us. Our lack of secondary is very apparent and even if we pull this game out, passing teams like Maryland, like Miami, like Georgia will have a field day.

Matt Winkelphalic: AJC’s version of Sweet Lou Holtz. Lou continues to be the only idiot to keep picking Notre Drag Queen (we could chalk his up to Alzheimers) and Winkie keeps rolling out his Geek Squad pick. (So what’s your excuse Winkie?! Did you pull your hammy like Teshard? :) ) Speaking of Injuries the overblown mention of it in all the lame AJC coverage of the UVA-GT game tells me we will have to hear this as the latest ‘Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda’ Tech excuse. Don’t remeber that same line of chatter for UGA when we lost 4 to ACL’s last year. Whatever…Nothing better than to be a GA Dawg on Saturday night!
