More answers for Dickey than Clinch
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tech’s off today, and I’m working on a story for Monday’s paper so I don’t have much to add. I do think Tech is better equipped to deal with the loss of C Ra’Sean Dickey for the fall semester, than Paul Hewitt’s team was set up to deal with the loss of G Lewis Clinch last spring.
Onto another sport, some folks told me the Great Yellow Jacket Encounter was not well organized yesterday, lines were long, and people were generally not respectful. I heard that some players stuck around longer than expected, though.
If you went, what was your experience like?
Matt

I had a great time and got plenty of time with players…while a queue probably would have helped keep things flowing better (and prevent cutting by ignorant fans who just didn’t know better), I think the heat made it feel worse than in past years. Again, I had a great time!

Couldn’t have been that much of a line with only three to four hundred fans.

Matt,
Do you know if admission to a Tickle Pile and entrance to the Girlyman Competition come with the pizza and Season Football Tickets.

i must confess that i am an ex gt baseball wannabee attending emory. i didnt make the gt baseball team because they caught my eyes straying in the shower. i guess i am more suited for the university of georgia life style….. sigh.
all these posts i post under diff names re tickle piles really applies to the ga bulldawgs. they have nothing to do whats so ever with the yellow jackets and my hidden desires.

So…our beat writer didn’t make it to the event? I was kind of hoping for some first hand details from an AJC resource…

Matt, can we not block these tickle pile posters? That is what they are doing on AJC’s UGA blog, it is only fair to block these people here as well. Thanks for the great coverage!

Sorry, we are unable to block posts that contain true facts. Since Georgia Tech has the ongoing Tickle Pile investigation it would be irresponsible to block posts that relate to Tickle Piles.

The lines were long Saturday. It was not very organized. But some players really stepped up and made it a great day for some of the fans.
At about 5:00, one of the young lady’s from the sports dept was going to cut off the still long line about 15 feet in front of where my kids and I were standing.
Choice said he was not going anywhere he was there for the fans and signed autographs and did pictures for another hour. So did Taylor Bennett (when we left he was the only player left, still smiling and getting pictures made - only about 5 fans still there)… Some of the other guys who stayed until all fans were taken care of …. J Dwyer, P Wheeler, M Johnson, DJ Johnson, J Lewis, AJ Smith, G Guyton, M Burnett and some others … Tashard, Taylor and these guys showed some real character
I think seeing that character and attitude was my favorite part of the day….

The lines were long on Saturday, but the players seemed very happy with the turnout. Each time I told a player how much we appreciated them signing autographs in the hottest part of the day after practicing for two hours, the players responded by telling me how grateful they were we came.
Many said bring more with you next time! These young men deserve our support.

I had a previous ‘family’ affair I had to attend, but would have absolutely been there otherwise, with my kids. We attended the GT night at the Braves game Friday night and really had a good time. There seemed to be a good Tech crowd there that night, but no football players. We had a great time meeting members of the baseball and women’s tennis, volley ball, and basketball teams. All were genuinely nice and posed for many pictures with my son and daughter. The band was great and the glee club performed extremely well. The night was nicely done.

Tiger fans……go blog about the little team that couldn’t. Big bad Clemson…always a day late and a dollar short. And by next year….a coach. I respect UGA fans b/c they win. But Tiger fans???? Give me a break. Go pick on Duke and stay off our blog. Until you win your division and more than 7 games then you may talk smack in the state of Georgia!!!!
