Can’t let UNC have the big run

If North Carolina has a discernible weakness, it may be that the Tar Heels are inconsistent defensively, but I wonder if the Jackets wouldn’t be better off Thursday night facing a team that’s struggling on offense.

North Carolina, though, has plenty of people who can score. Tech’s been hitting the boards very well over the past seven games, winning five. In the two losses, they outplayed Duke for most of the game save the final 8:10 of the first half, and outplayed Virginia except for the final 3:41 in the game (even after spotting the Cavs 22-6).

Duke outscored Tech 22-7 in that stretch and won by nine points. Virginia outscored Tech 13-0 in the final 3:41 to win by six.

Streaks happen in every game, and there’s probably no way around that. But when an artery breaks, Tech needs to staunch the bleeding in these runs before they bleed out and leave themselves with more mess than they can clean up. Being on the wrong end of a 9-2 run is one thing, but to get gouged by double digits is another matter.

Tonight, look out for the really big runs.

So, what you’re saying is…Tech needs to score more than its opponent to be successful?

This game, like every other basketball game (with reasonably comparable talent) comes down to who will play the hardest for the longest…ie…heart and desire. Sometimes we show that we want it more than the other team…sometimes we don’t…Mario is the man though because he ALWAYS wants it the most. Go Mario Go Jackets!

There is no next year in todays college basketball. You win with your freshman like UNC, Duke and Texas, or you reload for next year. Tech failed at developing their freshman and are NIT bound.

I’d love for Tech to win tonight, but join me for a quick reality break…we have no chance. I repeat: No chance. I hate UNC but they are deep, talented, and have a great game coach…that being their greatest edge. Count on Hewitt to let his charges fall behind by 15-20 points, mount a small comeback, and pi$$ it away with turnovers and ill-advised timeouts. You’ll be seeing a lot of eye-rolling and head-holding by Hewitt tonight. Say hello to the NIT, Jacket fans. And if I hear one more “next year will be our year”, I will projectile vomit. There is no “next year” in college hoops!

The Tar Heels win on the nights they play great team defense. They are well coached, and usually disciplined, but not always. Maryland exploited that a few days ago. That’s where Tech’s lies, but my guess is that it will be a run-and-gun fast-breaking affair.

I think Tech has a reasonable chance to pull off an upset tonite. UNC has the talent, but I’m starting to wonder if they have the guts to get very far in the post season..Tech can make it to the NCAA with a good showing ia the ACC tourney.

WRONG - I’m a GT alum (BS and MS). I’ve paid my dues, cha-cha. And as far as my sexual preferences go…I only wish I was gay. Your mom wants too much money to have sex with her. $20 is out of line! By the way, you may not recognize her when you get home tonight…I shaved her back.
