In pursuit of the latest recruit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Have to be brief. I just got to my hotel after flying to Raleigh-Durham and driving 90 minutes to Winston-Salem for tonight’s game. Don’t ask why. Complicated, and it has to do with expenses.
Nice pickup in DE Jason Peters. I’ve spoken with him several times. Very composed kid, very mature. Heck of a player, and clearly has his head on very straight. That guy and Derrick Morgan in the same class? That’s pretty awesome.
The cornerback, Michael Peterson, that Tech is now recruiting out of Tampa is a pretty good player himself, although not one of these kids who has blown everybody away, at least not yet. I’m still learning more about him.
I’ll try to talk to him tonight and get something on the blog.
Basketball team better win tonight or it could turn mean.
Gotta go. Sorry I was late.

Yeah, Peterson would add to a suspect secondary. As for GA Tech BBAll, they better win and show improvement at the same time. An ugly win won’t offer any hope!

Tough to watch the basketball team. They are not very well coach. Tough to say that because I admire Coach Hewitt. Toughness is lacking and just don’t display any basketball sense. What a waste of talent. Imagine what Dennis Felton could do with the talent Tech has…

Winning the NIT will be a nice send off for Coach Hewitt…if we’re invited.

Looks like David Braineless was wrong on both hires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If Chan is such a great recruiter, why did he wait 5 years for his second 4 star recruit?????????????????????AND, just because you get great recruits, means little, Ref. Hewitt…………….

That’s what happens when you base your program around Tony Akins. Reap what you sow, losers! Go Dawgs!!

Tony Akins would go down as the greatest point guard in UGA history. He just happened to play at Point Guard U. Renegade, your life is what happens when you base it around the GED. Reap what you sow loser.

phipps I guess you won’t be at the Hilton Hotel for the high school signing party today. geeesshhhh, the best class we had in a long time (maybe ever), and your complaining about recruiting. I guess by your analogy, Chan must be a great coach to have made the post season with only one 4 star recruit in 5 years…

While I suffer through listening to GT bball on 790thezone.com at least I can still watch a very exciting Air Force team in action. Talk about a bunch of 2 star players who give everything they have, every time they play. It would be nice to see the same type of hustle out of the Tech players. Just because you bring in 5 star recruits does not mean you are going to win.
As for Tech FB recruiting it should be a very exciting year. It would be nice if they could secure their last scholarship slot with Peterson. Of course being out here in Colorado I wont get to see any Tech games in person, so like last year I will be getting my season tickets to the Air Force Academy to get my football fix.

There must be something about GT’s position on the food chain. When a Duke or North Carolina has a pigeon in their sights it’s all over but the funeral arrangements. Tech on the others hand is the paid assassin that is about to lose its tour card. You send them up to Salem to take care of a team that hasn’t won a home game all year, how can you tee it up any better and they show back at our door beat up with their clothes all torn up and a note saying there is more of this where that came from. We do the same thing in football. Climb into a bus and head for some third world country and within three hours are calling home for hostage money. Tech looks like it’s got iron poor blood. When I watch Duke or Carolina they look energize. Any ball that falls on the floor is chased after like it holds the secrets of life. With Tech the players are like a bunch of cowboys sitting on the fence watching the action from a far.

You can’t blame Hewitt for Critt throwing away 4 passes in a row trying to push the ball up the floor, or for Dickey letting his man catch an entry pass then turn and dunk with no resistance what so ever. Coach can only call so many time outs to chew these guys and ask if they’ve quit. I see T Young thinking he doesn’t care what happens now cause he’s going to the NBA next year, no matter what. Life @ GT is just to difficult for him. Crittenton is just struggling being a PG, since he really only did that his senior year in HS. This has been so dispiriting that I’m not looking forward to going to the game on Saturday. That’s sad.

I love Tech sports and have ever since I went to the Tech-LSU game in 1956. This is wearing thin. The Beesball team should have won the CWS last year but choked and gave away two games they should have won. Football was going great, then three straight 3 point losses. Now B’Ball. I started salivating last June about the prospect of a ranked team with 20+ wins, NCAA Berth, etc.It started off well with the Memphis win, but then Miami and Vandy debacles, then, give away the Clemson game and now we can’t win on the road or at home. I watch other teams on ESPN and they all seem to play at 78 RPM while Tech is at 33 1/3. (remember those record speeds for you old farts.)I love coach Hewitt but He needs to start kicking some a*. He is the most mild mannered major college coach I have ever seen. I am at home sreaming, cussing and yelling at the top of my lungs at turnovers, missed layups, poor defense and he’s sitting on the bench with his arms folded and without so much as a grimace. We’ve got 9 more games, including FSU, UVA and Duke on the road. Fortunately, 6 of the 9 are home games. They can still pull this thing out but they need to start playing as good as they looked on paper before the season started. If they don’t, this will be as disappointing as the the baseball and football seasons turned out to be.
