What are Chan’s chances?

What does the news that Mike Shula has interviewed for the Miami Dolphins job suggest to you about Chan Gailey’s chances?

Was it just a courtesy to Don Shula’s son or a sign that Gailey and Jim Mora aren’t the only candidates in Miami?

Tenuta is a good coach but has a personality compared to “Sandpaper” - abrassive and flat. As a head coach he would be a PR nightmare. Sit through one practice. He makes Charlie Weis look like a nun. There is a reason he has bounced around to more schools than just about any other coach and never ended up with a head coaching job.

Chan really wants to get out of GT so he won’t have to answer questions from alumni all spring and summer about why he continued to play Reggie and cost us one of the great years in GT football. His refusal to just say he doesn’t want these NFL jobs is the same thing as saying he wants out of his current job. Dan Rad should just can the guy now. And Tenuta is a fine defensive coach but something tells me he doesn’t want to be a HC…probably for the same reason Chan wants to go back to the NFL…answering the questions from alumni.

If Chan is gone I will tell you guys who is the BEST coach who will NEVER get mentioned Jim Harbaugh. I read an article on him a couple of years ago and this guy lives and breathes Football. He took the Univ. of San Diego to new Heights and just got hired as the Stanford Coach. His Dad was a coach and he has been around football all his life. I never really liked the guy but after reading that article I was sold. You watch this guy will be in Charge of the Big Blue within 5 years.

UGA’s D gave up 264.0 yds per game. Tech gave up 289.3 per game. And UGA could actually stop somebody when it counted. Tech’s D couldn’t finish the drill.

While I didn’t approve of Chan sticking with Reggie the last few games w/o giving Bennett a chance, I for one think he has been a good hire for Tech - certainly has a winning record and has a great class coming in!Ignore the negatives Chan, you can’t please everyone! Go Tech!!!!!!!

Tech has the only D in NCAA history to lose 2 games to 2 true freshman QBs with time running out. And look at what 2 games they were? The biggest of the year. Your D lost the game for you in your 3 biggest of the year. That is how good your D was.

We should have grabbed Whisenhut when we had the chance. Darn it.

And in the battle of state of Georgia defenses, here are all the stats. Total yardage - UGA (#9) 264 yds/game, GT (#20) 289. Rushing D - GT #11-88.5/game, UGA #31-113. Passing, UGA 150.2/game, GT 201. And where it really counts the most, on the scoreboard, GT #20 - 16.8 pts allowed per game, UGA #21 - 17.1.

So moc, I checked the final stats you moron and where it counts, GT was slightly better.

What a cauldron these events brew. Now we have a coach no one really wanted but could live with, not wanting us and not getting the job at Miami. He will be holding us to his contract like the Guantanamo Bay Naval Station holds the Cubans and we are looking for the slightest crack to get rid of this thing we have signed until 2011 for a million a year. The marriage is over but we are still living together for the economics. He entertains his guest from Pittsburg and Miami right there in our living room, while we dream out loud of Fisher or Whisenhunt.

UGA had far superior defensive players compared to Tech. They have 2 defensive linemen who could be first-round picks this year. Tech had an undersized defense with a handful of good players, but they had an extremely undersized defensive front who predictably wore down against the bigger, more physical Clemson and UGA offensive lines. In terms of scheme, though, Tenuta is definitely one of the most innovative defensive coordinators in college football and seems bright enough to be a good college head coach.

To all the UGA pig farmers on this blog……CHILL OUT! Yes you have owned us 6 years in a row. All most of us want is to fight the good fight, with our academics, we will NEVER be able to recruit the DL guys and DB’s you guys do. We know that. Dont believe me, ask Ball, Clark, and Jennings. We HAVE to rely on a coach to coach our guys up, like Teunuta does every year. That being said, you hog sloppers would p** your Dickies’ Over-alls if you had another tough fight every year. Tennesee and Florida give most of you hicks the runs for two weeks during the season. Most of you rednecks dont realise that it is pure joy watching yawl sweat every year before our game…..win or lose. Anyhoo……hope King learns how to spell or you guys are out an RB. Go Jackets!

1) Anyone actually going to answer the question? Yes, Chan still has a chance. I think Shula interview was courtesy interview for Don. Gailey now has a 50-50 chance with Mora being the other.

2) Don’t you UGA fans have better things to do than hijack literally EVERY SINGLE GT blog? I’ve watched UGA fans get involved with every blog for the last 3-4 months and it’s just plain ridiculous. Go bark to one another on your own blog.

3) To KRIS and other GT “fans” like you….go away, we don’t need you!! I hope you “abandon” GT forever. Being a fan means supporting your school no matter the circumstance. Be disappointed, mad, irritated. But the empty threats of “abandoning Tech forever”…give me a BREAK! Just go away!

4) Lastly, we all know that Tenuta does not have what it takes to be a HC. Otherwise, he would have been one by now.

UGA 15, Tech 12? Try UGA 8, Reggie Lewis Ball 7, Tech 12. Do the math. Or do we need to whip out our freaking calculators y’all obsess over so much?

ArkyTech, Man you and the rest of the Techies thought you were going to finish a season ranked and with a better record than the Dawgs. THAT IS HILARIOUS! You say that “Reggie” and your offense outscored Georgia in Athens. Looks like that wasn’t enough now was it. How pathetic is it that you guys have a very solid recruiting class and the next thing you know your coach is taking a 2nd interview with the Dolphins. Welcome to Atlanta recruits. “My name is Coach Gailey. I won’t be here next year. I just wanted to meet you guys. I guess you’ve all met Reggie. Good guy-just can’t read-don’t tell anybody. Feel free to call me collect in Miami anytime. Good luck to you guys next year.” GO DAWGS!!

By reality check

January 16, 2007 10:32 PM | Link to this

Gailey clearly has a chance to be Miami’s coach or he wouldn’t have another interview. At 18-14 he has a better pro record than the guy he would replace. Percentage wise it is about the same as Pete Carroll’s pro record.

He should take the job if offered. Too many Tech fans don’t want him, the Tech administration isn’t really interested in football and he would get a huge pay increase.

Jabster, the score was Georgia 15, Tech 12. There’s your math and no calculator is needed. All the other stuff you are whining about is the delusional fabrication of a sore loser who doesn’t know the difference between winning and losing. Tech will beat Georgia again one day, but it didn’t happen this year and you are forfeiting your dignity by not accepting reality.

Pretty sorry state of affairs in the coaching business when a top NFL team offers multimillions to Chan, Mora or Shula Jr. Gailey never intended to stay at Tech. He used Tech. His resume is all about job hoping. He was coach of the Cowboys and wanted that position again and the best way to get it was to be head coach at Tech for awhile. He put himself ahead of the institution by playing for mediocrity to get into one of these 75 bowls and not for the best chancing of producing a top flight team. How else can one describe playing Reggie Ball over Taylor Bennett for 3 years when one has the best player in college football twiddling his thumbs. I would fire him and promte Tenuta or either bring back O’leary or one of his assistants.

Reality Check—I thought we were talking about Tenuta’s D. Maybe you didn’t see the game, but the game I saw only saw Tenuta’s D give up 8 points, not 15, to UGA’s offense. The Georgia D gave up 12. You can send your thank-you note to Reggie Lewis Ball for the rest.

Both football programs in this state are a joke. It reminds me of Miss State and Ole Miss. Neither the Dogs or Tech will do nothing next year. Gailey is horrible and Richt continues his trend of finding ways to lose key games during the season each year. He wont beat the Gators for the next ten years just like Tech wont be able to beat a bad Georgia program. Two below averge programs.

By GT

January 17, 2007 09:08 AM | Link to this

Jabster is right, our offense looked the same on defense as it did on offense. When that Georgia kid got the fumble he had to step around two or three Tech players to get to the ball. Then he ran around the same players going to the goal line with one of the Tech players pointing to the rest of his team to get that guy. Deer in the headlight responses are common on the offensive side of the ball especially the head coach. The offensive play of the year was that professor that gave Ball the D that got him out of our hair. Too bad Gailey doesn’t have to go to class, he would have fluked out years ago.

By reality check

January 17, 2007 09:28 AM | Link to this

You are confused, jabster. I said nothing about Tenuta’s D.

I am saying it is time for you to accept the fact Tech got beat and move on.

But if you want to speak about Tenuta’s D, it was good against Georgia but not great. Georgia was rebuilding on offense this year, but still gained something like 275 yards against Tech.

Attempts to diminish an opponent that beat you do nothing but diminish your own team’s efforts. The winning team still won and the losers come across as poor sports.

It is a stronger position for you to admit the obvious. Tech was beaten by a very good defensive team. Georgia’s defense was top ten all year, and late in the season Georgia’s defense was as good as any. The last 3 teams Georgia played were ranked, including Tech. None of them gained 200 yards on Georgia and Georgia’s defense created turnovers and points, including a decisive score against Tech. Tech was beaten by a very good team that day and there should be no shame in that. Let it go.

“Tech administration isn’t really interested in football”. Why would we hire an associate athletic director from LSU if we are not interested in football? That is about all LSU has to offer. The times of one interest oriented sport’s programs have gone with the one room school house. Florida is a shining example. What I would love to know is how all these resources are pored into the Georgia program and all these highly recruited players show up there and the difference in the last game is a questionable pick pocketed fumble recovery and a sneaky touchdown. And when you digest that how about telling me about Vanderbilt and Kentucky who we know aren’t interested in football.

Any college team’s defensive stats would look good if they played Duke, UNC, and NCS in a row. Those teams couldn’t score in a house of ill repute with a $100 bill. JT is not as good as you think, your schedule is just week. You lost to the best 5 teams that you played (which means their defenses played better than yours)and you did beat two decent teams in VT and Maryland. Other than that, Tech’s season was one pu**y playing another. You deserve Chan.

I think Tech fans forget that football teams do not suit up in pads to take the field and work math problems or take management classes. They leave the locker room to play football, which is something Tech is pretty poor at. Academics on a football blog is just a Tech guys way of drawing attention away from the fact that the Tech football team sucks, and your coach wants to find another job because he cannot stand you Tech a**holes any more.
