Johnson gets his due
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Zach Peacock is definitely suspended for Wednesday’s Duke game, I’ve learned, and that is no surprise.
Speaking of surprises, what’s up with “Talk about 20/20 Hindsight”? (see yesterday’s blog)
What are you writing about? I didn’t call anybody a liar, nor suggest that. It’s simple, the Johnsons do value education, and if Calvin was going to be drafted, say, in the second half of the first round (just a guess at his cut-off point, actually), he might have returned to Tech.
As it became obvious that he’s likely a top five pick, the money that goes with those spots skyrockets from the bottom of the first round, and the choice became a no-brainer. Nobody’s lying in any of this.

What I’d like to know Matt is when is Tech going to hire a competent football coach. The one they have is not acceptable.

I second Senior Citizen’s Question, Chan has to go. We had what will probably be the top player in the draft for 3 years, and the most games we can win in a year is 9??? And it was not like was surrounded by other talent, so it is time for Chan to start answering some questions, as in “yes” my house is on the market, and “yes” There needs to be a capital “g” on my unemployment check.

“Ball from under center, sets, throws, Johnson’s there… It is … CAUGHT! Touchdown! Calvin Johnson! SON OF A GUN! He has ABSOLUTELY lived up to the legendary billing! And with 11 seconds left… Georgia Tech has taken the lead! ARE YOU SERIOUS? Reggie Ball took 3 steps, looped it. AND THE LEGEND IS BORN! CALVIN JOHNSON! Holy smokes!”

charles, no need to reminisce now, it’s all downhill from here. Let’s not remember what it felt like to win big games, because it won’t happen any time soon!

Like we won big games anyway. Blown out at Clemson. Lost to a BAD Notre Dame team at home, blew a 18 pt lead to WVU and lost to a weak WF team. Haven’t beaten UGA in 4 years. Come on…this team will miss Calvin, but it doesn’t entirely rely on Calvin. It relys on it’s head coach and he ain’t worth a dang.

Don’t get too worked up over “20/20 Hindsight,” Matt. Probably just an overzealous Techie driven to temporary psychosis by the realization that the one bright spot on Tech’s football team is leaving for greener pastures. If you were stuck with nobody to bail Chan Gailey out of his abysmal coaching, you’d probably be a little touchy too …

We haven’t beaten UGA in 6 years, but still…Losing Reggie = being better in every offensive category as long as Choice is in the backfield. Sure, we miss Calvin, but Bennett was able to move the offense in the second half against Duke with a good mix of slants and deep passes (accurate deep passes). But the best part is, Bennett can see over the offense line and can throw over the middle.

Calvin was the Ferrari we only took out for a short spin on Saturdays. Low mileage, little used, owned by an old man who only drove it occasionally. Someone is really getting a bargain with this bad boy. We had Rambo and never went to war. Maybe somebody can make better use of a man that should have left here our first Heisman.

Coach Chan “The Man” Gailey IS the bright spot of Georgia Tech football. The man is a gridiron genius. You never appreciate someone until they’re gone. Take RB for example. Feel better now? FOC.

Move on people! Get a life and get over it. The complaining is getting very old. Why not take a 2 minute break from your same old repeated whining and say something positive about Calvin.

Calvin is an outstanding young man with a bright future off and on the football field. We should only be so blessed that a player like him decided to play and educate himself at the greatest school in the south…Good luck Calvin I’m hoping that your career in the NFL is a blessed one.

OK ArkyTech,
Calvin should have won the Heisman trophy if not for Droopy Dog, boring, non-communicative, stubborn, egotistical, doofusAss, goober, gomer, AuntBee, get my bean pies ready for me, Gay Chanley.
Anyway, thanks CJ for all your hard work. You are headed to a better place.

godawg don’t you want to go over into your blog and chat about how UF owns your mutts in every sport that men play?
I’m sure you can’t wait to get them on the Balance Beam and show them a lesson or two. At least your women can beat them in something.

Coach Stubborn’s job will be easier next year if he continues to work hard. Tech has some big time QB talent coming into play. I feel for Reggie though and wish he had been redshirted or moved to another position. To think what Calvin did with Taylor in one game is phenom. This kid has downfield/vertical ability Tech has’nt seen really even in Hamilton’s time due to his height of 5’10” or so. He’s sharp and appears to be humble like Johnson. Hopefully Tech’s defense will keep playing tough and get use to an o ffense that can light it up.

Matt, don’t worry about 20/20’s rant. Not sure where that was coming from.
I second the good analogy by GT.
Let’s think about how Chan let a team that was ranked 13th and had the potential to be top 10 flounder down the stretch of the season to being “unranked” at the end. How do you do that with the consensus All-American WR, the best to play the position EVER at Tech, the leading rusher in the ACC with a Tech record for consecutive games with over 100 yds and a defense ranked #11 nationally in rushing D, #20 overall D.
Oh yea, you stubbornly stick with an undersized, erratic QB when you have a kid on the bench who can actually throw the ball.
Man it really pains me to think about how Chan let what should have been one of the great seasons EVER in GT history go down the tubes. Chan wasted a great opportunity and he needs to answer to the critics about why this happened.

Matt you need to watch ESPN more. The experts in the draft have CJ as the first player in the draft. Where do you get you’re information?

No Ramble on, it is much more fun to remind you that UGA owns you on the gridiron. Because whether you admit it or not, little else mattters. That is what chaps your azz and you know it is not going to change in your lifetime. You are doomed to live out your days losing to UGA in football. The only sport that really matters. All else is just a distraction.

Navigator,
Read closely. I wrote in this blog that Calvin might have returned IF he was going to be picked in the second half of the first round.
Everything I’ve written, and others have written, recently indicates he’ll be a lock top-five pick. Read closely, you’ll see, and I included the Raiders, who have the No. 1 pick, among teams that could draft him.

Is there much talk out there about the Raiders trading down?
Atlanta really could use a big-time receiver and it would be an excellent PR move for Blank & Co.
Then, ATL could use the rest of their draft on lineman.

Ramble On,
Why, as a Tech fan, do you really care if the Gators own UGA? I am not into living vicariously. Like it or not, the Dogs do own DoofusBoy Chan, and it appears they will continue to own him if he returns. He will stand on the sidelines with that deer-in-headlights look and will continue to be stubborn in the face of overwhelming need for change (Reggie Ball, among other bonehead decisions). Chan Gailey gave away the UGA game this year. It was ALL CHAN. Next year it will be much more difficult to beat Georgia, and next to impossible with Goober as coach.

No idiot child. It IS more FUN to torment mental midgets such as yourself that continue to delude your little self that Tech is in the same ozone layer as UGA in football…the sport that really matters to you. Get ovet it little girl. We will be tormenting morons like you into the next millenium. So take your own advice shi^ for brains. Until you can beat UGA STFU and quit soundinding like the short bus rider that you are. You are an embarrassment to your stickbuds.

Why does everyone have to blast Chan Gailey all the time? Why is it that in a blog about where Johnson will wind up in the NFL, we have to say what a crappy coach we have? The man consistently upcoaches an extremely difficult recruiting situation. Now, he seems to have found a way to address that tough recruting situation. We send players to the NFL. We play in bowl games, albeit not always the best ones.
This is a team making progress. I have been disappointed at the end of this season just as everyone else has. Look forward to the future. We’re going to be getting a VERY talented recruiting class with a staff that knows how to get a lot out of players.
Reggie’s gone. We’ve got a new #1 now (Burnett) and I think we’ll like him. There’s a solid chance we’ll go 10-2 or better next year. How do we do in big games on the road lately?
You lame a$$ “fans” out there need to recognize that there is only one national champion out there each year and the odds are 120:1 that it would be us. If you want to see an example of how to be a real fan, see South Carolina. Those are real fans!
See you next year. 212 days until we beat Notre Dame!

first off Calvin, we will miss you my friend, its not going to be the same without Superman on the Flats next year. whoever has the number one reciever spot has some mighty big shoes to fill, and it will ne interesting to see who steps up.
as far as next year, tech fans trust me, we still have a boat load of talent coming back next season. we have our QB in place and with more experience he’ll get better. we have one of the best RB in the ACC and have 4 of 5 returning offensive lineman. we lose one guy on our defensive line one guy in our linebacking core, unless Wheeler decides to leave and that would be a huge loss, and one player in the secondary leaving. Tenuta will have his defense ready and Nix can be more open with the playcalling with Bennett than with Ball. Ball was better on the move, but Bennett seems to have pocket presence and the ability to read defense better than Ball. we are in good shape. we can and i think we will beat UGA next season. if not Chan has got to go because losing to the same team 7 years straight and 6 under Gailey is not moving in the right direction.

Chan already is the only GT coach to lose 5 in a row to Georgia. That is enough!!! StubbornA$$, droppy dog, gomer Gailey will always do something stupid to lose to the Dogs. He has quite the repertoire of stubborn stupidity!!!
