Can Chan be replaced?

I will be curious to see how Georgia Tech fans react to the news about Chan Gailey interviewing for the Miami Dolphins job. Are you:

A) Flattered that your coach is so highly regarded an NFL team might want him? B) Hoping the Dolphins do hire him so you can get the head coach you want? C) Reconsidering your evaluation of how Gailey has performed at Tech? D) Reminded that, unlike the Dolphins coach he might replace, Gailey doesn’t lie to his fans?

Hope whatever happens that the recruiting season is not impacted. Seems this could be a very good class for Tech.

Gailey should go wherever his heart takes him. That is what is best for Tech and Gailey.

Believe Tech could do better. Maybe promote their defensive coach.

A)

Gailey is a solid coach. (As a talent evaluator, I’m not so sure about his skills after the Reggie Ball debacle.) He’s gotten his team ready to play each year, and he’s kept some pretty good assistants around, including his defensive coordinator. Plus, by all accounts, his recruiting this year is going well.

Are better coaches out there? Definitely. Still, finding them is hard enough, and Gailey is solid. Plus, Gailey has not done anything to embarrass his institution through his own actions or those of his players.

If Gailey left, I’m not sure who would be better out there. David Cutcliffe is good. Jimbo Fisher might be good, and the new AD likely has some relationship with him given their LSU ties. Still, Gailey has been solid, and he’s a known.

Not surprising to me…the last time the Dolphins made the playoffs , Chan Gailey was the offensive coordinator…and this year is the first year the Cowboys made the playoffs since Gailey was the head coach..He might be more suited for the NFL cause his ego is not as big as a Spurrier or Saban…

B) He hasn’t won ten games. He hasn’t beaten Georgia and his bowl record is not good against bad teams, excluding this year. He was too stubborn to make a quarterback change until he was forced! And the whole time he had average seasons. The reason they were average and not worse is because we had a guy named Tenuta to salvage them for us. Hire the guy who should be credited with all of Gailey’s wins anyway! TENUTA FOR HC!

I thinkn it’s too late for Tech to start shopping for a new coach. If this had happened earlier, we could have anounced a choach by now. A coach change right now would greatly impact our recruiting class.

Please let Miami offer him the job. We could certainly find a better coach out there who could realize that Taylor Bennett is a vastly superior quarterback when compared to Reggie Ball.

And if Chan is doing this hoping for a quick renegotiation of his contract, I don’t think that is going to work. The majority of the Tech fans don’t want his as their head coach.

Chan held on to Reggie too long. Tech fans had to suffer even in games won. Tech should have won the Georgia and Wake games. His stubborness to stick with Reggie leads me to believe he would do it again in similar circumstances. Calvin will probabably go pro and if so, who will Bennett throw to next year. The other Johnson guy, is he back next year? If Bennett or Calvin`s mom can keep him at Tech for his Senior year, Tech would likely win the ACC…and even more. If Calvin goes, Chan probably will go to the Dolphins. For this reasioning, I hope Calvin leaves.

We don’t have to go shopping for a new coach. He is already there, just promote him(JT). This won’t effect our recruiting class at all.

Let him go! I hope he goes. I’m tired of solid. It’s time for some risks and more fire. Tenuta (although he is notoriously bad at interacting with administration and recruits) or go after Fisher.

From Chan’s statment it sounds as if they are not only inteviewing him but consulting with him about who would be a good choice if he is not offered the position. No doubt he is well qualified for the position and if Wisnhunt does not take the Steelers job that may be another interview he may be going to since Chan spent a lot of time there.

I like Gailey as a person but not as Tech’s coach. I would like to see Tenuta get a shot. The last time Tech let a big time coordinator leave (Fridge) the program slipped a bit. I am afraid the same will happen if Tenuta leaves.

Jack doesn’t know much about Tech James Johnson (soph) is not leaving. Tech also has some good WR that haven’t played because of CJ (greg Smith). I don’t think Gaily staying or leaving has anyting to do with what CJ does. I think Tenuta would be a great hire. I also think letting Nix have full control of the offense is not a bad idea either. He did some great things at times this year.

Overall, Chan has done a good job with the talent he had. In fact, before this 2007 class, he’s biggest weakness was recruiting. That weakness has been addressed! With the new class coming in next year, and hopefully the years thereafter, we’ll have a lot more success.

First, I would fall out if Whisenhut did not get the Pittsburgh gig, so that rules him out, and from what the Miami Heral reports, Gailey indeered himself to the president and I think he brings the long term stability and honesty that franchise needs to turn it around, and to him I say best of luck.

If he does leave, i do not think Tenuta would be the answer, I would say pay him BIG BUCKS, like we did FRIG, and let him do what he does best, but you have to get a coah who understands that and I think Cutcliff would be a great fit….or what about Mora Jr. as a college coach…or there is that guy at UCF…wonder if he would come back??

Either way, I think for the program to go to the next level, Gailey has to go, and I do no think it devistates the recruting class. If you look at it Gailey is not and has not been the catalyst of this, it is his new recruiting coordinator. If anything, think about getting a more energatic, out going, and winning coach.

Imagine, we could get rid of Gailey and Ball in consecutive months?? X-mas 2007 may have come early!

What’s the good word?!

Agree with Burdell’s bro about Tenuta, but not about Gailey ( and remember, Friedgen came off back-to-back LOSING seasons at MD, something Chan’s never experienced). Promoting the coordinator will just diminish the D, which is the backbone of this team.

GT is coming off a 7-1 ACC season, has lots of returning players, a tremendous recruiting class coming in -the last thing to do is make a coaching change! I, too, am disappointed in the close losses at the end (UGA and Wake were needless losses), but the program is moving in the right direction, whether some of you want to admit so or not.

And quit blaming Coach Gailey for the ineligible playes. These weren’t freshman who didn’t know what to expect, they were seniors that had maintained their eligibility for 4 seasons. That responsibility lies solely with the players.

Ken Whisenhut was Tech’s tight end when Notre dame came down for a game ranked Number 1 in the country.

He played QB in that game and lead Tech to a tie with Number One.

If the Falcons don’t hire him Tech should. H,e obviously, is very resourceful.

What do you call starting and backing Reggie Ball for four years? If that’s not a lie …. And if Gailey does bolt for the Fish, Tech needs to scrape up every last bit of dough to hire Paul Johnson. Don’t be afraid he might run the option. (Hey, Friedgen did with Joe Hamilton and it was nigh unstoppable). Johnson can run any offense in the book — and some that aren’t.

I surprised with some of the positive responses I’ve read. Chan has done well with the horrible exception of Reggie Ball. Keep in mind, the last three games were against very good opponents, and it kills me to lose to fleabags for 6 straight years. O’liery was beating mediocre mutts those three years. As much as it pains me to admit, Richt has elevated that program to a higher status with better talent and coaching than the leg humpers have had since Herschel. Having a decent QB we should have won some of these last 3 games if not all of them. With the talent coming in on recruiting, losing him would not be good. I’m sick of changing coaches every 4-6 years, and it hurts the program. One should appreciate loyalty (ask the dolphins), even though Reggie’s sure did hurt.

Yes, Chan can be replaced. There are great coaches out there. Rad has to find one. Chan may be great for the pro game because the pro players already understand how the game is played. Division I players think they know but they need strong leadership and strong coaching. Chan appears to be too passive for the college game.

Chan leaving may impact the short term but hiring the right guy will probably be best for the long pull.

His dream job has just opened up and he”s not about to let it get away. B. Lets get on with the hiring of a new coach. Chan Gailey is the worst thing that ever happened to Tech football. Some say Bill Lewis was, but although Lewis was incompetent, I think he tried and he was never stubborn or arrogant. Gailey has divided what little fan base remains. He’s had to learn on the job and has only been successful due to one man - John Tenuta, who won many games while Gailey played as a pitiful offensive coordinator and bizarre angel to Reggie Ball. Gailey will not leave though, where else do you get a million dollars for - giving games to Georgia every year and going home before November?

Anyone can be replaced. Chan is not the best coach out there (as we’ve seen over the last 5 seasons).

When you have turnover, those in charge who get paid to fill the opening earn their keep. Dave Braine did not earn his keep when he hired this dud.

This would be DRad’s first test and he knows that this fanbase wants something better. I hope Chan is gone and I hope Rad is as good as I perceived him to be when he took this job.

Rad, earn your keep.

Does anyone seriously think Miami would take this moron off our hands? For your examination:

Dec. 2, 2006

CHAN GAILEY: Obviously, it’s my responsibility to get this football team ready to play, and we didn’t do well enough today to win the ball game. Now, that’s what we’ve got, that’s what we came down here was to win the ball game, whatever it took. And we didn’t get ready to play and that’s my responsibility. Any questions?

Q. Could you describe your thinking on both 4th down situations?

CHAN GAILEY: Yes, it would have been about a 50 yard field goal in both of those situations and I didn’t feel like the wet, the way it was, with it a little wet, damp, I didn’t feel like the odds of making a 50 yard field goal were any good at all so I didn’t go for it.

Not only incomplete thoughts DURING the game (when it really counted), but incomplete thoughts and ramblings AFTER the MF Loss! Let’s see, don’t put Bell out for 50 Yds TWICE.

FF to Gator Bowl Debacle #2: Put Bell in unbelievable position of 54-Yds with another slightly wet field & ball. He Coaches by Trial & Error…Mostly ERROR.

Punt to LOSE in Gator Bowl Debacle #1.

Kick to LOSE in Gator Bowl Debacle #2.

How on earth could anyone possibly buy out a multi-million $$$ contract for these coaching decisions with games on the line? We are STUCK WITH THIS CLOWN until the day he DIES!

Can he be replaced? Yes, by CURIOUS GEORGE.

After sitting throught the ACC championship and watching us lose to the dogs with Reggie - and then seeing the Gator Bowl - I question Gailey’s evaluation of the talent on the team. Bennett could have made the difference in the first two games.

By Navigator

There is always concern when your head coach could leave. However, I’m just as concerned that Tenuta will leave, as well. We must understand that defensive problems were not because of Tenuta’s ability, but the patch work of defensive players that Tenuta was forced to use. Giving Tenuta the head coach job eliminates both of those problems. A head coaching job for Tenuta will come eventually, why not let Tech reap the benefit of being the one to make the offer. I really don’t think Gailey could separate how to handle college players, versus pro players. If he leaves, I wish him all of the best. Sadly, the Falcons will probably not find a head coach as proven as him. With UGA fans being a large percentage of Falcon ticket holders, Gailey would never be considered for the Falcon job. I also feel the same for Whisenhunt getting the job, that same ticket base would scream bloody murder. I don’t think they could separate college rivalries from a professional contract.

By taylor made

Folks, you keep promoting Tenuta for head coach. Just b/c a coach calls good plays doesn’t necessarily mean he is going to be a good head coach, having to deal w/ scheduling, media, and the overall pressure of being the front man, win or lose. Tenuta is one of the best defensive coordinators in the business, but I’m not yet sold on his ability and demeanor to be a good head coach. If that was so apparant, he should have been offered many jobs by now. Think about it.

But I do agree that Gailey has to go due to his decisions w/ Ball and is pro coaching style. Gailey was an assistant in the pros, came back to college to get head coaching experience, and now he has put himself in the position to be a true head coach in the pros. He’s played this right on.

Maybe Cowher will move his house down 85 closer to Atlanta!! But Rutcliff might be a good choice as well.

One of the complaints against Gailey from day one is his job hoping but that looks like a natural now in coaching so we can pass on that complaint right now. Two, is he inherited a fully stocked program at Tech coming off a victory over #11 Stanford. Third, he took what he had and made it competitive that he should be congratulated on but he never finished strong in five years. Fourth, Tech will need be aggressive and innovative to compete year in and year out against our competition in the ACC and the SEC for that matter. It will have to recruit nationally. Fifth if I’m him I take the job in Miami. Tech could promote from within or go to a long list of outsiders. We may not win 7 games every year but we will be more interesting to watch and challenge for the championship every few years with a different coach. If we take away to the two softies every year and the close calls this program has’nt been that great in win/losses. Taylor Bennett is the best thing to happen at Tech for it’s future since the signing of Calvin Johnson. The problem is Bennett should have been playing QB all this year and probably last year.

By Historian

January 6, 2007 02:04 AM | Link to this

Let him go, he’s trying to recruit another freshman like Reggie. If he does, Bennett will never start. Morgan runs well, throws some, and is being recruited by a lot of colleges. The point is that the run and throw quarterback goes back to Pittsburgh, when he promoted “Slash” (name not mentioned). He doesn’t believe in drop back quarterbacks. He will go to Miami, because they have one of those run and throw quarterbacks coming back next year.

The last three successful coaches at Tech (Curry, Ross, & O’Leary) built the program up to jump elsewhere. Unlike those three, Gailey didn’t have a few deplorable years on the front end in transition before having his sucess.

Like it or not, O’Leary left in kind of a mess. Remember the season where we had 12 players declared ineligible in the summer? That was in the transition between O’Leary and Gailey.

It was maddening at times, but when you compare wins, Gailey was more consistant than the others in the beginning. Now that it looks like Gailey started to get the team to turn the coner, he wants to leave? After that fat contract extension/buy out he had not yet earned? Now, if he stays, how can he promise kids he’ll stay when he was so quick to interview this time?

In light of the big picture, he’s almost made it where he’d have to go. With the team just now getting settled, promoting Tenuta would be a sound step. He’s a hot candidate, we only have him under contract for a year an a half, and it would provide the least transition for the players & recruiting.

I never really saw Gailey as “The Guy That’d Get You There”. He’s more like “The one Before The Guy.”

Whatever happens, a selection would need to be made to depolarize the fan-base. Of Tech fans I know, people loved or hated Gailey.

Like Radakovich—if you didn’t like him in the beginning, you could respect the choice. In his case, I think he’s done a better job than I expected (or could have expected) getting folks on the same page. It would need to be that kind of choice here. Wisenhunt, Cuttcliff, Cowher, Tenuta, Chow, Fisher, etc. would need to be able to take that kind of approach to make it work.

Go Jackets!

Please Dolphins… take stubborn old coot Chan off our hands. As some have stated, he was forced to play Taylor Bennett out of necessity. He would have started Reggie Ball in the Gator Bowl, make no mistake about that. Even after 2 of the worse performances by a QB in GT history.

I don’t buy that UGA and Wake were better this year. That is absolute loser rhetoric. Chan has been and always will be mediocre, and as boring as paint drying. No matter the talent level, he will find a way to lose games in the manner of the last 3.

If he stays, he will keep his boy Nix, who is on a short leash attached to Chan and his unimaginative approach to football.

Chan Gailey needs to realize how to make adjustments at half time. Coaching during the game is as important as making decisions on who starts. West Virginia ran the same plays over and over just like they did all year. Stack more in the box, I didn’t see many bliss against West Virgina! You can’t afford to get out coached from the side lines. You can’t punt the ball or attempt a field goal when you know your chances of getting the ball back while the clock is winding down! I liked the on- side kick to start the second half in the Gator Bowl !

I’ve enjoyed reading the comments here, but I’m not yet on the can chan bandwagon. Nobody is as rabid a fan and alumnus as me, but all college programs need stability for player morale, recruiting, and improvement. So unless the HC is just not pulling his weight, then think twice about what you wish for. Being the HC at TECH is not a cream puff job. If you don’t know how challenging it is then you haven’t talked to enough Ugag, Alabama, and Klempson people. So take your pick, glass half empty or half full. I’m backing Chan not on the basis of three horrible losses, but on the basis of the big picture and the reality of what it takes to find the “right” TECH coach. As was said before, “Reggie is gone and I wish him well.” I really don’t appreciate it when some TECH fan says “All TECH fans want Chan gone.” It’s like the Democrats telling us “what is good for the American people.” HELLO?????? Old Chan is like the ugly daughter left at home. The father tries everyway to con her off on some unsuspecting soul but nothing works, then some guy shows up with flowers. You have got to ask what this guy is up to. Tech has improved despite Gailey not because of him. Calvin Johnson didn’t go to Tech because of Gailey he went to Tech because it was a better school than most, it was convenient to his mother who attends practice every chance she gets and it played in the improving ACC. There is a shift in where kids want to go to college and by the grace of God Tech falls into that sweet spot. The town of Atlanta has 4 million people in it, up from the 5 hundred thousand that lived there when Bobby Dodd was coaching. More blacks play the game and want to live in an atmosphere that respects their culture and is close to home. More blacks understand the use of a good education and see the doors opening up to them. Football is just a vehicle to that success not four years of fun and back on the bus home kind of thing. Chan didn’t cause any of that; quite frankly he probably doesn’t even realize there has been a shift. The Reggie Ball thing jumps out at you. How many more bad moves go unnoticed because they are not the quarterback position?

Chan Gailey is an honorable man. In today’s world, that is a rarity.

His main fault has been his loyalty to Reggie Ball. I was there for Reggie’s first game at BYU in Provo and his last game in Jacksonville. He was still throwing (in Jacksonville) the same long overthrows and interceptions that he made as a freshman in the BYU game. Not one iota of difference.

Reggie is a fine athlete and played his heart out for the Jackets. All of us who bleed “white and gold”, hoped that he would get better…mentally and physically at the quarterback position. But, alas he did NOT! He was always an “athlete playing quaterback” to quote Chan Gailey. When his only weapon, his legs, were hurt…there was no reason to be loyal to Reggie or the offensive scheme designed to exploit that athletic ability.

There was plenty of opportunity to make this a stellar season by inserting Taylor Bennett for an injured and poor performing Ball. Two or three series per game during the last two games may have been enough to win state and ACC championships. Given this team, that was not too much to ask of Coach Gailey by the Yellow Jacket nation.

A quarterback makes his living with his brain first of all, his arm secondly, and finally his legs. Taylor Bennett came into the Gator Bowl and showed us how the quarterback can make everyone around him better if he has things in that proper order. The results: Record setting performances by both Calvin Johnson and Tashard Choice. Need I say more?

Gooooo Jackets! See you in South Bend.

Same guys calling for Chan’s head who thought Ted Roof or Ralph Friedgen would be Tech’s savior and Mora the Falcon king. Let’s see, Roof is fantastic at Duke right? And Friedgen’s teams did not even get to a bowl in ‘04 and ‘05. Sure he did great his first two years at Maryland but with the previous coach’s recruits!

Chan is a good (Yea, not perfect and Reggie is great example) coach, recruiter, and human being and Tech is lucky to be able to have a former NFL coach as head coach.

My prayers came true, it looks like Chan will stay with the bugs - he must need another beating by the dawgs!!- Everything will be perfect for the dawg- nation if we can get calvin to stay too!!- maybe calvin will gain 20 yds.against the dawgs this year instead of 13 or 15which he had this past game. Thanks again CHAN. Gooo dawgs!!

Okay, I tried reason, do you know a fifth differential equation when you see it? Can you say the four factor formula for nuclear fission? Well, I can so get this those of your are so stupid you’d qualify for a Ugag degree, Chan is not going anywhere, get over it, I’ve seen more TECH losses than most of you combined…you’re sorry TECH supporters, get a life, please cheer for the Ugagers and the Falcons….they’re your type of teams and you’re their type of fans. Otherwise stuff your pipe…criticism is one thing blatant disregard for reality is another. I’m so tired of you quasi TECH fans, we don’t need blind support, but spare me your shiboleths and non-sequitor responses.

(You and the Ugag Nation will spend the rest of the night in your dictionary even if you have one.)

You should have seen how many Ugag fans wanted Richt’s butt when he lost to Kentucky and Vandy. Are you not the same. Shame on you. Come up with some rational posts or please go to bed.

P.S. Matt, please don’t post something like this again, it gets responses, I know, but I’m sorry I posted because it brings me down to their level. Have a great New Year, and thanks for covering the Jackets. Semper Fi!!

The last three successful coaches at Tech (Curry, Ross, & O’Leary) built the program up to jump elsewhere. Unlike those three, Gailey didn’t have a few deplorable years on the front end in transition before having his sucess.

Bill Curry was 73-98 at Tech? Is that how success is measured?

what about MacWhorter to replace Chan whether he wants to leave or not? Mac was last “head coach” to beat UGAG and, according to Braine (who never lied), was “in the running” before Chan was announced the next day

MacWhorter did not beat UGA. At least to a web search before you say something stupid for all the world to see. He coached the Stanford game in one of those baseball stadium bowls after O’Leary left (following losses to UGA and FSU to end the season).

I hope the Dolphins hire Chan. His loyalty to Reggie overshadowed all else. His inability to make adjustments or change quarterbacks cost us games. The defense won many games for us (except the Gator Bowl). We need someone who can make changes when needed.

The list: -Can’t beat Ugag. -Can’t win a game without Tenuta’s defense. -Can’t keep our players out of academic trouble. Flunkgate I, and the recent sequel, FlunkgateII. -Can’t make good decisions without first “royally” screwing up our program worse than ever before. No Vision at all, just mistake after mistake after mistake after… -Can’t determine when to bench a trash-talking, choking, heartless joke of a quarterback, which I must admit, has to be absolutly the worst DivI qb that I’ve ever been laid witness to. -Can’t beat Weak Forrest when it means something. Nevermind losses to powerhouses Duke, Utah, Fresno State, Amoto’s State, and the luck of the Irish (Notre Dame). I’m still vomitting. -Can’t call an offensive gameplan, because he’s a moron, plain and simple. So is Nix, duh Auburn grad. -Can’t win a decent bowl game. Sorry Gailey but Syracuse and Tulsa doesn’t count. Not exactly stuff made of Legends, now is it? -Can’t coach his way out a wet paper sack. Thank God for Tenuta and all that he has bestowed on us, which is some form of respectability for our football program. -Decides the team should wear all white in the mud bowl against Fresno State, and then couldn’t muster up the intelligence to have all the backups and substitutions lay down and roll in the mud, let’s just allow the other team to know when we substitute and give away any possibility that Fresno’s coaches could possibly miss something and we could take advantage of it. I mean its just football, strategy doesn’t really have anything to do with it, now does it Gailey? -How about the time when he left the nations leading rusher (or should I say runner) in too long against the already beaten “mighty” BYU Cougars? Remember that? Hollings had already tweaked his knee and had run for over 200 yards and 30 carries. Remember the big lead in that game? Remember the running backs we had to finish the season to start against Ugag?
-Did I mention, HE CAN’T BEAT UGAg!!! Even during the close games, real Tech fans knew he and Reggie were gonna screw it up, a black cloud of hopelessness and stupid playcalling that just will not end. Thanks Boss. -For the moronic Chan Backers. I will ask you just one question. If he were the coach at Ugag, wouldn’t you feel better? Donan and Quincy would have even liked it. You know, as far as how pathetic their legacy is at the State Correctional-Reabilitation School/Facility of Ethically Challenged and Overpaid Athletes from the Second-Chance de Saint Richthood state Univ. of Georga’.

In conclusion, I would like to vent that Georgia Tech would absolutely, positively be better off without a total moron in charge of its football program. A program that was built on integrity and pride is basically a laughing stock and punchline of many Mutt jokes because of this man and his decisions that he is directly responsible for. But for some strange reason, some Tech fans fall for his great excuses and bs, such as (and please, stop me if you have heard this before), “We’ve got to do a better job of…(fill in the blank)”. Is that your idea of repairing and fixing what is wrong? Puleassse, I’m still vomitting.

Consider ourselves lucky, very lucky if the Dolphins are stupid enough to hire this moron. If they don’t, the madness will continue until DRad proves his worthiness and finds a real Head Coach to run our football program.

Hate to say it, but although Reggie did a very poor job in running to the offense while the defense kept us in games, where was the defense at the Gator Bowl? Or at last year’s Emerald Bowl - 38 points given up in each game?

Against Wake in the ACC championship game, defense played well, but we could not stop them in the fourth quarter. Not enough reserves, maybe, but I would take that excuse if we were playing VT or FSU or Miami, not Wake.

HOPEFULLY Chan learned a valuable lesson with Reggie. We will find out if Taylor starts to play poorly next year - maybe another season like UGA had this year, star youngsters and one experienced upper classman. Will Chan pull a Mark (or Parcells) and pull the starter and go with a freshman, or continue to be Chan and stick with somebody playing poorly? That Tech fans is the real question!

And can somebody buy us a road win in bball. Maybe we should have played one of the patsies on their court!

There is a clique of toadies that support Chan at any cost. These folks will not even listen to constructive criticism of Gailey, despite the fact that Tech will never be a top 25 team under this droopy old coot. He will continue to lose to UGA and to lose any game of real significance. Not beating UGA and reveling in mediocrity seems to be OK to these needy GT jocksniffing supporters.

These toadies are not in the majority of Tech fans. Please Miami, take Droopy Dog off our hands. Please forget that Dallas was really glad to see him go.

I am neutral on Chan because I see both the positives and negatives.

If he leaves, I do hope that we can replace him with someone of quality (Ken Weisenhunt?) Also, I hope that our great recruiting class doesn’t suddenly change their mind about going to Tech.

If he stays, I hope that he feels pressure to exceed this seasons performance. We cannot take a step backwards in football.

Have to admit, I like this list:

By Dan Rad

January 7, 2007 11:12 PM | Link to this

Once Gailey has cleaned out his desk, here’s my shortlist (ANYONE is better than a coach who won’t pull a starting QB who passes for 42 YARDS in 4 quarters and fumbles away the win against UGA, after he has lost to them for 4 years in a row. And I’d like to quash any rumors that Gailey or Ball or both of them are somehow “on the take”. Really, I’d like to.)

1) Ken Whisenhunt - A TECH Man…Is that what it’s going to take to finally beat UGA again?

2) Mike Martz - NFL Experience and guaranteed to light up the sky at Grant Field. Provides a nice Offense to go with Tenuta’s Defense.

3) Jumbo Fisher - You dudes know I have ties to LSU, right? He doesn’t want another OC gig…He wants HC.

4) Bobby Petr——Wait…Well, he’s off the list now.

5) Bobby Ross - Proven GT Winner!

6) Friedgen - Won’t leave his MD gig though.

7) Dennis Green - Has nowhere to go but up after falling into the AZ pit of doom.

8) Chris Petersen (Boise State) - Already quite familiar with Taylor Bennett…Can you guys cough up enough dough to get him (and keep him now)?

I would only add Steve Mariucci - Who was great last night on NFL Network…And even Jimmy Johnson - “The Coach” as 2 more with NFL experience. I would also suggest that this title be changed from “Can Chan be replaced?” to “If Chan Is NOT Replaced, Will There Be ANY Tech Fans Left In The Stands?”

By Chan Gailey Has DESTROYED GT Football!!!!

January 8, 2007 01:41 PM | Link to this

ANYONE can be replaced…Especially this Head Coach! He has quite obviously PERMANENTLY RUINED any “relationship and trust” he had with the GT Fan Base. NEVER an explanation for non-stop playing of Reggie Ball, The Most Valuable UGA Player to Never Wear a UGA Uniform!

The ultimate condemnation for REGGIE BALL and The Coach Without A CLUE from Wikipedia (Reggie Ball):

Reggie Ball began his senior season for the Yellow Jackets by leading the team to a sterling 9-2 record, but Ball’s collegiate career ended on a negative note on December 2, 2006, with a feeble 9-6 loss in the ACC Championship Game to Wake Forest, just one week after Ball’s Georgia Tech team lost to rival UGA for a fifth straight year. Ball completed less than 30% (15-51) of his passes in these last two games, threw four interceptions, and gave up a crucial fumble in the loss to Georgia.[4] Although Georgia Tech earned a spot to play West Virginia in the Gator Bowl that year, Reggie Ball’s controversial career abruptly ended when he was named academically ineligible, and backup quarterback Taylor Bennett was named the starter. [5] He finished the season having completed only 44% of his passes, the worst mark of his four-year career.

Legacy Reggie Ball’s college career will forever be marred with inconsistency. Although he won several big games for the Jackets including two wins against ranked Auburn University teams and a win against #3 University of Miami on the road in 2005, Ball-led Yellow Jacket teams were 0-4 against the University of Georgia, the main rival of Georgia Tech. Ball’s play in these games will always be in question to Georgia Tech fans. Ball finished his career by losing to UGA for a 4th time, losing the ACC Championship game to Wake Forest, and being declared academically ineligible for the 2007 Gator Bowl, what would have been his final game. College football writer Pete Fiutak, contributor to the website Collegefootballnews.com, challenged readers to name a more ineffective four year college football starter than Ball.

The MOST Ineffective 4-Year Starter In College Football! What Coach on EARTH would continue playing such a DISMAL QB? Only ONE…

Does this sound like a guy who’s “happy where he is” and is “not looking to get back to the NFL” and “only discussed organizational issues”??

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey said Monday that he interviewed with the Miami Dolphins and was waiting to hear if he was still a candidate to replace Nick Saban.

“There’s nothing new,” said Gailey, who was on hand as star receiver Calvin Johnson announced he would enter the NFL draft. “I’m one of the guys in the running.”

Me thinks he meant to say, “I’m one of the guys who’s running,” as in away from my mistakes and burned bridges.

HE’S GONE GUYS…One way or another, Miami or not…HE IS GONE! The BEST thing to happen to GT Football in at least 5 years, as in when Gailey got here.

Radakovich said he did not object to Gailey speaking with the Dolphins less than a year after signing a new contract with Tech.

“It is flattering for Chan [to be interviewed],” Radakovich said. “He has a long and positive history not only in the NFL but specifically with the Dolphins. I do not see this as a negative.”

Of course he didn’t object…He probably made the first phone call. It’s only a negative if he doesn’t get offered the job. If it’s offered, he’ll be off the Tech Campus by FRIDAY!

I think Chan has done an average job at Tech at best. He has that pro mentality. Nothing seems to get him fired up on down. I’m not sure that is the best for a college coach. He has spent most of his career in the pros. If he goes, I don’t think Tenuda or Cutcliff would be good for Tech. Cutcliff may be the most boring guy I have ever heard speak. He put the entire Touchdown Club at Memphis to sleep when he droned through reading his speech off of notecards. He did not do a good job at Ole Miss, esp in recruiting. He may be a good offensive coach, but not a good head coach.

By The Most INEFFECTIVE Head Coach In College Football HISTORY!!!!

January 10, 2007 09:22 AM | Link to this

“Reminded that, unlike the Dolphins coach he might replace, Gailey doesn’t lie to his fans?”

Interesting! How can one LIE if one never answers the QUESTION? Gailey single-handedly TORPEDOED his own team and WRECKED this season by NEVER substituting for Ball, who was a BEYOND-WORDS MISERABLE 6-for-22, 42-yds PASSING (not rushing), 2 INT, 1 FUMBLE (ret for TD) against UGA AFTER Gailey had already lost 4 times in a row to Richt!! (Those are complete game statistics for RB, BTW.) THIS DEFIES ALL LOGIC and certainly inaction like this does not come from ANY Head Coaching Handbook I’ve ever seen…Even the one For DUMMIES!

If Gailey REALLY, REALLY WANTED to win this game, as in “I have to do WHATEVER is necessary to absolutely not let Reggie Ball lose this game for us AGAIN”, then wouldn’t he play Bennett? Even if just for a series or two? Wouldn’t a WIN at UGA be enough SPARK to charge into the ACC Championship Game, instead of just “show up” with a team that GAILEY claimed responsibility for “not being ready to play today”?

I saw (above) where Wikipedia named Reggie Ball as The Most INEFECTIVE 4-Year Starter In College Football HISTORY! (It’s LEGIT, check it yourself) Wouldn’t that make Gailey Guilty By Association? Doesn’t that mean by default that GAILEY is The Most INEFFECTIVE Head Coach In College Football HISTORY? If so, then why is he STILL Head Coach of TECH Football? Must we endure a dozen (or more) self-inflicted losses at the hands of The Most INEFFECTIVE Head Coach In College Football HISTORY with this Ludicrous Contract Extension?

This is SO EMBARRASSING! Though I’ve had many opportunities in the past, I’ve NEVER been more ashamed to be a TECH Football Fan than I am right now! What a distinction…Well, YOU may have Urban Meyer or Jim Tressel as YOUR Head Coach…But at Georgia Tech, we have The Most INEFFECTIVE Head Coach In College Football HISTORY — AND we gave him a 5-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION last year!

Absolutely BEYOND WORDS! Gailey has already said he WOULDN’T have played Bennett in place of Ball AT ALL this past season…Even AFTER Gailey AND Nix admitted in OCTOBER Ball’s Maryland injuries had made him LESS EFFECTIVE…Even AFTER seeing Bennett pass for an ALL-TIME TECH Bowl Game 326-yds!

But the CORRECT QUESTION to ask Coach Gailey is simply: WHY NOT? WHY NOT? WHY NOT? WHY NOT? WHY NOT? Would he LIE to us then? Isn’t Not Answering The Question that so many TECH Fans have repeatedly asked for AT LEAST the past 2 years LYING by default? Surely there is some reason Gailey watched repeatedly as His Reggie Ball IMPLODED game after game late in the season WITHOUT substituting Bennett. Did he think Bennett would perform worse than His Most INEFFECTIVE One? Even IF he did, isn’t there an OBLIGATION to the TECH Fan Base and His Team to DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO TRY AND WIN????

I propose that Gailey has something he is HIDING…Something so DARK and DEVIOUS that if by some miracle he ever answered the WHY NOT? question in public, then it would be a LIE anyway.

Gailey needs to leave Georgia Tech, even if it means a return to the NFL…It would be the Most EFFECTIVE Decision he EVER made at Georgia Tech!

I feel sick to my stomach…again.
