Will rivalry fervor take a holiday?

Let’s talk turkey. Or will you be talking Georgia-Georgia Tech, instead? I imagine a lot of Thanksgiving conversations will be about the upcoming game.

Will Tech finally break through against the Bulldogs? Is this the game you care about most, or is next week’s ACC championship game a bigger deal? How will Matthew Stafford react to Georgia Tech’s pass rush? Will Calvin Johnson get 50 or more receiving yards against Georgia for the first time in his career?

It figures to be a friendly, good-natured, analytical discussion, unless of course your Thanksgiving dinner includes one or more fans of the other team. For those of you in that kind of situation, do you make Tech-Georgia talk off-limits? Do you stay on opposite sides of the room, sit as far away as possible at the dinner table, or tackle the issue head-on and vow this time not to let anyone or anything get under your skin?

I grew up in a UCLA family, had Thanksgiving with UCLA people and spent many a Thanksgiving discussing the Bruins’ prospects. But I don’t remember any USC people being invited. A good thing, too. Of course, if a Trojan had slipped through the door, I would have known exactly what to do … talk basketball.

Reggie and CJ will be resting for the ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME sometime mid third Quarter, after we’ve stretched the lead to 28 points.

Just like Duke, who gave Vanderbilt a better fight than the fleabags did.

None of the UGA fans in my family are intelligent enough to have a good conversation about football. They just start barking when they are loosing a battle of wits.

I broke up with my UGA-alum girlfriend for a week as a symbol for how much I hate the dawgs. It’s only too bad that those UGA girls look so good…but usually only in white and gold.

As a GT fan, of course I want to see GT defeat my alma mater. This year, with UGA having a marginal year, I would have to say that the ACC Championship game and subsequent Orange Bowl berth are probably more important than defeating UGA this year.

That being said, the fact that UGA has a five-game streak in the series and GT could have won two years ago and should have won last year makes this an important game for Jacket fans.

A win against UGA is probably more important for now, because I feel GT does have the better team and a loss might turn the Orange a little rotton.

Ramble On, for once you’re right but for the wrong reason’s. They’ll be resting Ok., sitting on pillows because their butts will be so sore from being knocked down. I’m sure the Dawg trainers will have pillows for you so just come on over. We’ll take care of you.

Hey GT, maybe they just bark because they can’t stand to be in the same room with such a pompass a** such as yourself.

I think Tech will finally take a long overdue win on Saturday. Ball is ready! He has stumbled in the past, but Saturday he will look like a man compared to his past performances against UGA. And yes, Calvin will be a big factor.

UGA or ACC Title? Tough, but I would lean to the ACC Title. It means more in the overall picture.

My wife went to UGA so we talk about this game all year long! It is never off limits and whenever you have a chance, take a shot at the other school. I have made my jokes about the losses to Kentucky and Vandy, because come Saturday, anything can happen. And come Saturday night, one of us will exit to the couch because the other will be riding high and talking smack. This year I we will be out of town for Turkey day and I will be very outnumbered, but hey, it makes it that much more fun when Tech wins.

BUCK not gonna happen, there’s not a fleabag on defense that can even tackle CJ one on one, even blind-sided. He’ll have 150yards plus receiving.

GT 35, the mutts 21. Something like that +/- a point or two.

That is not this GT. My daughter doesn’t bark thank you and she is a Georgia graduate, God save us all. What I have hated the last few years is getting her call after every score by Georgia asking how do you like me now? I love you darling…..but I don’t like where you went to school one weekend (or maybe two or three) out of the year. Any believe me you will be hearing from me this weekend!

The UGA game is more important. I was in school when we won three in a row. Given the choice of beating FSU (which meant winning the ACC) and UGA, we always chose UGA. Same goes now

Reggie and CJ will be resting for the ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME sometime mid third Quarter, after we’ve stretched the lead to 28 points.

The best victories over Tech are the ones that occur when the nerds actually think that they can win. Remember Ramble On…Reggie Ball is still your QB. He is worth at least 14 points to the opposition. UGA has never had a problem with Calvin and they won’t this year either. You are Tech. You will finish 9-5 and be crying like the little sissies that you are when the game is over. Face it nerds. You are like Rutgers. Maybe once in a decade…or a century you have a decent year. But then, well you reclaim your place as bottom feeders. You are STILL Tech. And the bottom is your rightful place in the football universe.

ART … I think you are forgetting two things this year - Vandy and Kentucky. And it will be quite hard to “reclaim our place as bottom feeders” when we are in Jacksonville in the ACC Championship.

Mutts are not allowed at the dinner table. Hence the dinner conversation will be cordial and well mannered.

For those not so fortunate and must have mutts over, I think this year will be as about as quiet as those enjoyed during the Donnan years.

Dave, unfortunately even if they lose, the Dogs (see, I can spell) will be spouting off their usual “wait until next year!” cry…

being quiet and dignified losers during this horrendous season has definitely not been their strong suit.

This year will be just like the two/three previous times we’ve played Tech. UGA wins as per usual and i will once again be able to stand up and say to the tech buttbags as they leave, “take your time, collect all your sliderules, calculators, and the rest of your stuff and get the “explicative” off our property.”

As a Dawg fan I am amazed at Tech fans making the statement that the ACC championship is more important than beating Georgia. That is a load of bull. Tech fans would give their first born child to beat us. The ACC is watered down plain and simple. An ACC title means nothing in comparison. Tech fans that say the game on Saturday is not important are lying through their teeth or don’t understand the rivalry. GO DAWGS

By Dave

Brooks, Sorry to break it to you, but the world does not revolve around you or the mutts. Somehow, I could be wrong, but I think winning the ACC and going to a BCS bowl is just a little more important then beating an also ran. I appologize if this has hurt your feelings or fragile ego.

Mutt’s world: They get beat by Vandy and Kentucky, therefore the SEC must be great because Vandy and Kentucky must be great in order to beat the mutts.

To me the UGA game is more important. It may not be the big picture, but if we lose to them, and win the ACC, what does that say? That the best ACC team can’t beat a team at the mid level of the SEC. We lose this game, and ESPN can keep saying our conference is weak. We win at UGA, ACC, and Bowl: We may be the best conference of all.

Dave, It’s not about ego. It’s about tradition. You’re season isn’t considered a success without beating your in-state rival. GO DAWGS

Wow, this sounds exactly like the blogs from last year. “The Tech-Georgia game means nothing to us. Our conference championship is much more important. We could care less about this game.” Only the teams are switched this year. Funny how the tables turn.

“They just start barking when they are loosing a battle of wits.”

This made me laugh. How right you are!

Anyways, Tech is definitely the better team, but we all know what this game comes down to: Who wants it more.

No one on the current Tech team has beaten the dogs, and I think in the end, we will want it more. We have a new Reggie Ball this year (Not one who has joked on big games, as one of you genius dog fans suggested), and I think he wants nothing more than a win in Athens.

GO JACKETS!

There is no way winning the ACC even compares to beating Georgia.

Being international, I did not even know of its existence since I joined Tech 2 years ago, but despite that, I detest UGA with a passion.

To Hell with Georgia!!!

GTU football: Now celebrating 40 years of losing to UGA Put this one in your pipe and smoke it, pencil necks. Much as you “gys” like to proclaim once a decade or so that “the rivalry is back,” the numbers dont lie. And what the numbers say is this: Maybe you all should be hoping you can get lucky again about 2010 or so. Not many of us, or you, can remember the last time GTU dominated this series. That would be the 50s. God bless Theron Sapp, incidentally. However, since the Dooley era began, the Bulldogs have been your regular masters. You may hate it, but you cant deny it. Check it out: 1964-1969: We win 5 in a row, finally lost one in 69. This should have been a foreshadowing for you nerds, much as the last 5 years should have been. Hop on the clue bus, fellers. 1970-1979: GTU makes it 2 in a row in 70. Trend? Nope. False hope. We end the decade up 7-3, and you”ve run through a couple more coaches. Dooley”s still here, and guess who arrives next year? Uh oh. 1980-89: Say hello to Herschel, nerds. We make it up to 6 in a row before you manage to win 2 in a row behind Dewberry. For all your whining about the 5th down with Colorado in 1990, I notice none of you ever offer to give back the 85 win which was sealed courtesy of a GTU goal line stand using, as gleefully noted by the AJC, 13 people. And they say you geeks are good at math. Is this the start of a trend? Nope. We end the decade 7-3 against you again. You end it hopefully, because Dooley”s gone, Goff is in, and you figure Bobby Rothhhhh is his clear superior, but as we”ll see, you were dreaming again. 1990-1999: Odd decade. You get the UPI vote in 90 with a team rational observers agree is far inferior to Colorado, who won all the other polls. GTU at the pinnacle, right? Wrong. Guess what comes next? 7 in a row for UGA, bay-bee. You bumble through a few more coaches. Rothhhhhh quits, Bill Lewis (nice choice) turns out not to be the man, and O”Leary? We kick his blowhard a*, too. You were 2-5 against Ray Goff. If he beat everyone else like he beat you, he”d still be in charge here. You get a gift in 98 when Donnan takes the air out of the ball in the 4th quarter. You get another gift in 99 when Al Ford”s crew hands you the game. Now you”re the dominant power, right? Wrong. You end the decade with us up, ummmmmmmm….7-3. But the trend favors you, doesnt it? Hah. 2000-present: In 2000, you flat whupped us. Embarassing effort leads to Donnan getting canned. Uh oh, nerds. Meet the new boss…same as the old boss (if the old boss was Dooley). Mark Richt comes from a school, FSU, that owns you worse than even UGA does. Guess what? He”s not changing his approach from Tallahassee, either. 2001, we pummel you in the rain. O”Leary sees the handwriting on the wall, lifts his skirt and flees. He got out just in time. Welcome, Billy Bob Gailey. In 2002, we pummel you in the sunshine to the point your team quits in the second quarter. All you nerds have left is to cry about how big mean UGA ran up the score. 2003, 2004, and 2005 all wins get ready for the deluge, nerds. We’re coming for you again.
