Staying healthy helps

Calvin Johnson and Reggie Ball and their teammates deserve credit. Chan Gailey and Patrick Nix and Jon Tenuta and the rest of the coaches deserve credit.

But when you’re looking for the people to thank for Tech’s 6-2 record and first-place position in the ACC Coastal Division, don’t forget Jay Shoop, Clay Farr, Dr. Angelo Galante and Dr. John Xerogeanes.

The Yellow Jackets, knock on something, have stayed amazingly healthy this season. Darrell Robertson missed the first game. Djay Jones missed the third. By my count, those are the only two games starters have missed due to injury.

The number is likely to rise this week because of another injury to Jones, but the Jackets still will be far ahead of their ACC rivals in their ability to stay on the field.

Very true. Here’s hoping Djay gets better quickly and no more injuries occur. Go Jackets! Beat the Wolfpack!

Avoiding injuries is particularly important for the Jackets. We are never as deep at skill positions as “Arts and Parties” schools like UGA and FSU.

This year, our guys are just plain tough, too. The defense really hits people, causes turnovers and puts us in a position to win games. Reggie is no exception, either. I am not his biggest fan but surely respect his toughness and will to win. Reggie Ball is a fighter.

Time to hit the accelerator and be agressive, coaches. Let’s not gear down and play conservatively.

Go Jackets!

We will have to show UGA how to win in Jacksonville.

Michael Johnson missed the ND game, but IIRC Darrell Robertson did not. I think Djay Jones missing the 3rd game is the only one until this weekend.

I understand the fustration with Reggie Ball’s consistency, but NO ONE can deny his physical and mental toughness.

As an aside, why is Champion Windows advertising with a picture of Vince the Prince on a Tech blog? (Am I the only one who is seeing that ad?) I’ll bet that is getting them a lot of sales. :-)

His physical toughness is actually hurting us now. An undersized quarterback with an inaccurate arm whose one true threat is to run, now can’t, leaving defenses to say “throw it under pressure and beat us.” And we all know he can’t find the world’s best reciever when he’s pressured. Why have there been several QBs to pass through the Gailey era and none of them can perform at a level any higher than mediocre? Is it recruiting or coaching?

Reggie Ball is Tech’s best QB this year, period. He has made mistakes, but every other QB we would have played would too. Ball has too much talent and experience to not play. For one, Johnson is NOT as good as everyone thinks he is. The man is still probably one of the best WR in the nation, but hes useless in anything greater than single coverage. The way for Tech to win is to come out passing. Let James Johnson prove to be a threat(as hes doing), which will get Calvin into single coverage. Then run Choice and/or Ball. The opposing defense gets totally uneasy.

Breaking News

Georgia Tech’s already strong recruiting class got a huge boost Thursday with a verbal commitment from the Yellow Jackets’ highest-rated player yet when defensive end Derrick Morgan, said he’d play for coach Chan Gailey.

The Coatesville, Pa., native is the No. 90-ranked high school player in the nation regardless of position, according to Rivals.com. He’s also ranked the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania by most scouting services, the No. 10 defensive end in the nation according to Scout.com, and the nation’s No. 8 strongside end by Rivals.com.
