The world’s still spinning
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
OK, I’ll admit it. I listen to sports talk radio. So there I am Monday morning, and Jim Mora is talking with 790 the Zone’s Chris Dimino, and the topic is how big it is for the Falcons to have beaten the Steelers, and Mora says, basically, bunk. Sure, 4-2 is better than 3-3, but 3-3 is only one game worse, and the world wouldn’t have ended at 3-3, and it’s a long season.
So I thought about Georgia Tech, which is 5-2 (3-1 ACC). The sky didn’t fall when Tech lost at Clemson. The end didn’t come. Tech didn’t even get knocked out of first place in the Coastal Division.
We in the media deal in extremes. Losses become crises. Victories become championships. Sometimes, everybody needs to slow down, take a deep breath, and resist the temptation to judge the remainder of the season on the basis of the last game.
Me, I’m waiting for Tech-Miami.

Matt, I agree with you about taking a deep breath, and slowing down, etc….however, I just hope that the loss doesn’t linger in the minds of our players too long…b/c especially when on the field, imagine if miami breaks one 30 yard run - we don’t want the players to think “here we go again.” Therefore i think the biggest challenge is for the coaching staff to get into the heads of our players of how they need to use that game as a fuel and that we are better than what we showed, and Sat. night was just a bad night all around.

Tech should beat Miami…and remember, BC is in the driver’s side in the Atlantic Division…and I think we match up better against them.

Mike, I agree. Everybody was on the bandwagon a week ago. You lose a game and all the haters come out and act like we just lost to Vanderbilt. Everybody needs to take a deep breath. If you are a Tech fan get behind your team and push them to wins the rest of the way. Go Jackets!!!

I agree, what is done is done. The focus has to be on beating Miami and then taking care of business against the 3 remaining teams on Tobacco rd. I would certainly hope that Reggie Ball, CJ, and Patrick Nix would have something to prove from an offensive standpoint. I have not doubt that Tenuta and the buys will have their “A” game, those guys have too much pride to go back to back. If the offense shows up it will not be close!

Obviously, you want to win them all, but we’re looking at a 14-game season if we win our division in the ACC. You can’t let one bad Saturday spoil the season. Look no further than Auburn for proof.
They got busted-up pretty good at home by Arkansas and nobody panicked. The next week they take care of business against Florida and they are still likely to win their division and may have a shot at the NC game.
Nothing we can do about Clemson now. I like how you put it. Tech needs to use this as “fuel” to get better and win out the rest of the season.
Tech’s goals every year should be: 1. Win conference championship 2. Beat Georgia 3. Win a bowl game 4. Compete for a NC
Three of those four are still very much in reach if the Jackets play the way they are capable.

“The Man” is the moron. Lets look at uga’s last five games.
Beat Colorado (1-5) by one point in the last minute of the game at home. Beat Ole Miss (2-6) by five points in a game that the refs screwed the Rebels on that return Got murdered by Tennessee (6-1), gave up 51 points at home (great defense) Lost to VANDERBILT (3-5) at home by 2 points Beat Miss State (2-6) by 3 points when they were deep in uga territory at the end of the game.
Uga is awful this year. You can BARELY beat some of the worst programs in the country. You havent beaten ANYONE good. But dont be mad at me because “I’M JUST SPOUTING REALITY!”
Have fun at the Music city Bowl.

It is very obvious that the man hasnt seen UGA play because if he thinks ball wouldnt start over stafford he really shouldnt be allowed to post 3tds and 9 interceptions wow thats good isnt it. Let “the WO man” show how stupid he truely is because honestly i dont think there is one UGA player that would start over a tech player on our team. We need to beat miami and if anyone picks up the cocktail party watch UGA get drilled i hope the UGA fans are going to drink alot to wash away the pain of a 6 win season.

It was more than just a bad night. It was the incredibly stupid play of Reggie Ball refusing to throw even once to Calvin Johnson. Ball can’t stand someone getting so much more ink then he does. He wants the glory to himself. Who cares if it costs the team victories? Not Reggie “It’s me, it’s me” Ball. And what the heck was wrong with Gailey and Nix not snatching a Ball up by his faceguard and telling him to throw to Johnson regardless of how many are on him? CJ would’ve made the play and maybe given us a shot at the game. Thanks, Reggie.

Well, I tried to tell you Techies you couldn’t come to our house, or the “litter box” as some of you referred, and win. You have the best receiver in the country and don’t even TRY to get him the ball. You have the dumbest coach and starting QB in college football. Has Tenuta been hanging out with Martinez from GA.? Clem…. wait.., Klimpson, as you like to say, wait, what’s that? Klimpson just scored again!!! HAHAHA Nerds!!

REGARDLESS OF WHICH EFFECTED HIM THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THE #1 RECEIVER IN THE CONFERENCE NOT TO CATCH A PASS.IF BALL STARTS AGAINST MIAMI LOOK FOR THE SAME RESULTS.

How did this come back to Georgia? Tech fans, you got handled Saturday night by a very good Clemsun team. This is a rarity for Coach Bowden- a good team that is. It only took him 8 Years! I like your attitude Matt, about it being a long season. We as UGA fans could use some of your perspective rather than being stuck with Carter and his lack of reporting skills. Tech fans, you will get your wish soon enough with the Dawgs, just make sure you handle your business before hand. It will be sweet giving you Jackets that 2nd loss since you have been looking forward to this game for sooooooo long!

Lowcountry Dawg - I was thinking the same thing when I read this, both the State schools could take this lesson.
Clemson was the better team last Satuday, better-prepared, better coached, better-everything. My hat’s off to them.

I agree with Mike and the Jim Mora analogy. The Clemson loss did not affect GT’s path to a BCS bowl berth. Plus, who really gives a damn about national rankings??? Like it or not, our program needs the $$$$$$$$ that a BCS game could bring. GT will be favored against the U, Dook, The Chest’s boys from NC State, and MJ’s UNC tar heels. IF all goes well, we have a shot in Jacksonville for the ACC crown and a HUGE payday.

Tech will definitely kill Miami if Reggie Ball is 100%.
However, I doubt he’s fully recovered. He was limping pretty badly and avoiding contact at all costs.
I expect a low-scoring defensive battle.

well you dawgs fans have a lot more to worry about than what happened to us on saturday night. Yes we lost to a better team on their home field and with them having all the momentum in the world. But I do recall a short time ago a team that hasnt won on your homefield in over a decade handing you your second consecutive loss at home. I bet picking Vandy for homecoming wasnt such a good idea after all, but i digress.
I am disappointed just like everyone else that CJ didnt get the ball. But there is something on the other side of the field called a defense that did everything in their power to keep that from happening. Dont blame Reggie for not throwing his way into double and triple coverage, thank him for not turning the ball over and the score not being 63-7 instead. Blame the offensive coordinator for not devising a gameplan that would get others involved sooner. CJ is the best receiver in the country and its no reason he should go a game without getting at least 2 to 3 balls thrown in his directions a quarter. But Clemson proved that he would not beat them, and he didnt.
What now, well we move on a get ready for a hungry Miami team that has issues and something to prove, they will be playing for their coach and the history of their program. and not to mention we beat them last year on their home field on national television, and dont think for one second they have forgotten about that.
Bottom line we’ll worry about the dawgs in November, plus they have a lot to prove before they can even think about the season finale

First of all I am a Clemson fan and was at the game Saturday night. Of course, I was thrilled about the game. However, Tech is my second favorite team and I hope they put this one behind them and win out. GT has a very good and classy program and I respect that.

way to show some class Tigerman, i can respect that, i can also take this loss like a man and move on to the next one this one hurt no doubt, but its over and done with, hopefully if things shape up the way we expect them to, we’ll meet again come ACC championship time
and good luck against Va Tech, if you guys play anywhere near how you played against us, you shouldnt have much of a problem but we’ll just have to wait and see

Clemson was a way better team Saturday night. But, I don’t know that they’re that much better every night (we might find out the first weekend of December). Bottom line, that game is over and we still have the opportunity to win the ACC and we control that destiny. So far, GT’s losses are to two top 10 teams. I don’t care what the polls say, Clemson is a tipped PAT away from being undefeated. They play great nasty football. Congrats Tiger on a good win and the fact that you all could become the first ACC non-champ in a BCS bowl.
Bottom line against Miami is this: blitz and pressure all day. This is a game where we can get 350 yards of total offense and score 40 points. The defense needs to make a statement, especially Kenny Scott! He had more whiffs Saturday than Sammy Sosa without the needle.
Our team should not overlook UM, but we need to come out and recognize that they are a marginal program this year that only has wins against some of the worst teams in the country, play like they mean it, and show off our new home-field advantage. Hopefully, GT plays just like Clemson does at homecoming!!!

Of course, it is a little easier to show class after a win, but still tough if you ask an SEC team.

Hey techies nice game! Your terrible and it is only down hill after this year. UGA may be down but we will be back. Your biggest win of the year will be when Reggie Ball graduates. But then again he is very helpful to us dawgs when he throws the ball out of bounds on 4th down. I am sure he will be a FANTASTIC ENGINEER. Go back to the BLUE FIELD BOWL TECHIES!

Hey, wjadawg. When you say only down hill after this year, are you referring to the fact that we’ll be returning 18 starters (incl sp teams, w/out Calvin) from a team that will likely have played in the conference championship game, and has a recruiting class that Scout.com ranks as 6th in the nation?
Yeah, you’re probably right…all down hill from here. If that’s the case, UGA will be at the bottom of that hill in 06 and 07 and GT’ll roll right through them.

I guess not the team that gave up 51 points at home with supposedly one of the (choke, spit out my Coke, laugh) “best defenses” in the country.
Yeah, we got thumped, but not 51 points at home. How did we do against ND? How did we do against VT? How did UGA do against Colorado? How did UGA do against Vanderbilt? It’s a shame you guys don’t play Duke this year. That would have been a great game.
Dear AJC, I would like to propose a rule change for posting. If you lose to Vanderbilt, you lose all smack talking priveledges until you at least beat a Div 1-A team.
Let me break down what UGA fans are doing by poking at GT fans. You guys essentially got beaten by the kid who ALWAYS gets picked last for kickball. We got beat up by the biggest kid in school. But, we beat up a couple of other big kids. Bottom line: you guys still got beaten by the scrawny kid with glasses that seems to smell like pee. Maybe not the best time to pick another fight?

There’s one thing that UGA fans will never be able to do: just admit that their team is playing horribly. For what it’s worth, UGA got blown out by a top 10 team just like Tech did. UGA lost to a bad team, something Tech has yet to do. Being a Tech fan, I still have the integrity to admit that we played horrible football against Clemson. But there isn’t a team on the rest of the schedule that we can’t beat.
And second, all the Reggie Ball bashing needs to stop. He’s done well this season and turned himself around, while completing above 50% of his passes and also setting a school record. Give him a break.
But as ugly as the loss was, it’s in the past. We’ve just got to forget about it, move on, and focus on Miami.
