Gailey fixating on Midwest recruits

I’m not sure if it’s an intentional pattern or a coincidence, but Georgia Tech’s making noise in the Midwest this year in football recruiting.

Gailey and Co. recruit the Midwest every year, obviously. But I wonder — with the early commitment from QB Steven Threet (Adrian, Mich.), not to mention recent camp visits by two prospects from Indianapolis and one from Detroit (in addition to others) — if the Jackets are focusing more energy in that region than in previous years.

I hope to speak with Coach Gailey this week, and I’ll ask. I’m curious. At any rate, we’re going to try to keep the flow of recruiting information up, a little moreso than in recent years.

Practice begins Aug. 3, I believe. That’s three weeks from Thursday. It’s coming fast.

Near of far. Doesn’t matter to me, glad to have them as Jackets.

Tech should already be practicing. Some Sports site (Si.com or Cbssportsline.com) named Chan Gailey the THIRD worst coach in college football. But I’m glad we got Threet, he seems to play pretty good…Gailey should try to get Caleb King from Parkview…We need a top 10 recruit that’s a QB or running back.

Harry, it won’t do the players any good to practice as long as Gaily is the head coach. The poor man never met a talented kid he could not coach down. It will really be interesting to see what happens with Nix as OC. If we have a good season (say 8-3, decent bowl win, beat one good team such as ND or Georgia) then the question from Radakovich is going to be - what do we NEED him for? I hope for the best, but Gaily is clearly overmatched in 1A football.

This recruiting class seems to be shaping up quite nicely… Congratulations to Coach Gailey and his staff. Go Jackets!

yeah i know alot of the recruits in georgia and Kyle Jackson was telling me that this week will be a week to remember for recruiting. he also said that Roddy Jones will soon be a jacket. I also talked to Roddy and he said that scout.com took completley out of context and he not commiting to clemson on thurs. He also said that he will commit before the highschool football season which happens to be the same days as the ND game. I my opinion we might ge Roddy somtime this week and possible DJ Donley.

I think it’s a great step in the right directions. I hope the flow continues. Good Luck to the Jackets and it’s coaching staff!

I think the recruiting is encouraging, but you never know until they sign on the line that is dotted…. And, please, at this time of year, get off Gailey’s back. He is not going anywhere so let’s get some positive energy going for the season, and for September 2!! GO JACKETS!!

This is the make or break season for the ole’ Chanster. 7 wins (again) might not be enough for the new AD’s taste. This is an audition season for Gailey pure and simple. He better hope when Reggie Ball starts playing like Reggie Ball (a short QB who makes lots of bad decisions) that one of his other QB’s can come off the bench and get the ball to Calvin. Even Troy State won’t have a job for him when he’s back in the unemployment line this time.

Tech needs the student athlete from the midwest where the high school SATs aren’t some of the worst in the nation. You don’t see many of those corn feed boys down at Miss. State. Big games like our opener against ND will help us recruit this area also.

I agree with GTMBA92, we should all support CCG and the team through the entirety of the season especially in the beginning. If we are always chattering about firing our coach some recruits could be turned off. Our offensive line is going to be better and we have alot of athletes on D. So lets give this team a chance, especially before the first ball is hiked.

Hey, Bob in SF…. I think you’re ‘spot on’…. Given that there is a 12th game this year, seven wins (especially when you include Troy and Samford in the total) is definitely a ‘step backward’

I think Tech has to be recruiting nation-wide (and the Midwest is a good start). Let’s face it, the kids in Georgia are borne and bred on UGA, so making inroads there is tough (as it will be anywhere in the SEC territory).

And as for Reggie, I heard on the sports radio the other day a comment that “Reggie will have a Jason Campbell year”….I’ll belive it when I see it (and don’t expect to see it). Worse yet, I don’t see the ‘Coach’ changing QB’s anytime soon.

Fingers crossed and eyes closed, I’m hoping for 9 wins (and expecting 7)

Coach Gailey has made a good decision in giving the offense to Nix. He may not be the best choice for OC but at least our head man can concentrate on other things to help this team win more consistently. A good place to start would be special teams, which has cost us more games than anything else. Gailey has finally been here long enough to establish some ties in the recruiting arena and it is starting to pay off.GO JACKETS!!!!

Obviously, there’s an assistant coach on staff that has some pull in that area or possibly the New AD does. If not mistaken one of the recent LSU coaches, a decade ago came down from the north/midwest as did the one that one the national championship a few years ago. It’s contacts really that get the recruiting game going and since Gailey had been out of college for a number of years it’s taken awhile to catchup. This is why so many of us wanted some other coaches in there but it’s getting better it appears. What would really help is if he junked the offense and just took Friedgens offensive playbook and played with it. Offense will sell recruits better than anything.

Remember last year when SI called Chan the worst coach? Then during the year he beats Auburn and Miami on the road and is National Coach of the week!!!!! How can you be NC of the week 2 of 11 weeks and be the worst coach?????? BS!!!!!!

For any Gailey haters out there, why don’t you stop to think that Chan has probably been one of the most overachieving coaches in the NCAA over the past few years. For two years we rank near the bottom of the ACC in football recruiting, yet we still beat teams like Auburn and Miami. How can a guy like this be so bad if he’s going to a bowl game every year with a team that gets the 50th or worse recruiting talent? Answer me that please!

Would all the Chan haters out there just get over it….Geezzz!! Good points, beat Miami, beat AU - on the road. No need for any other long-winded justification. Optimistic coming into this season. Recruiting starting to pick up. Get positive on the program. Hope we have an outstanding year. Great opportunity with ND coming in on 9/2. Let’s GO!

The Jackets can recruit well in the Midwest because they play in lower tiers bowls out that way. It’s a free trip home for most of these two-star recruits. They can almost guarentee a trip back home to Boise right before Christmas, all expenses paid! I can’t wait for another 6-6 season…GO JACKETS, keep Chan another 10 years!
