At this point, what’s left?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Miami has one of the ACC’s best backcourts. That does not bode well for Georgia Tech, which is reeling with six-straight losses.
The schedule is daunting at best, with road games still remaining at Florida State, Maryland, North Carolina and Clemson. Duke, Wake Forest and North Carolina State all come to Tech. There are some who believe Tech may not win again this season, which seems unfathomable.
At this point, what do you think the Jackets have to play for?

Making The NIT. Remember Tech’s little run in the 2003 NIT? They used that spark to crank off the best basketball season in Tech history the very next year.

The good news is, it’s about what you do going forward, not what’s happened in the past. If they start winning from here on out (even if they don’t win every game) then they will have had a great season and start next year off on a good roll.
The rest of the season is an opportunity to turn a bad season around into a good one.
If they gasp win the ACC tourney (stranger things have happened), then they are suddenly in the NCAA tourney.
So really, there is EVERYTHING to play for. It’s more important to finish strong than it is to start off strong. (Though both is ideal)

*I think ACC tourney champ gets an automatic bid…if that is not correct…then disregard the NCAA tourney point.

Also a strong finish could help recruiting for 07 and beyond…

This is the youngest team in the ACC and has no point guard. They will play for pride and to gain the experiance. No post season play is likly this year. Next year will be better with a freshman point guard. They may have a shot at a brief stay in the NCAA, but should at least get far in the NIT. Then look out for them in two years! It is tuff to watch right know, but the experiance they are gaining will realy pay off in a couple of years!

Nothing to play for? The Gold & White is enough to play for. The experience and the media coverage for the future in recruiting and the next level are all things to play for. Bad team, good TV game. Next game, bad team, good TV game. This is how you recruit; Exposure. Coach H gets huge cudos everytime we are on TV. He also gets recruits everytime we are on TV. Young superstars will see this coach and young talent and see a future at GT. We are big time winners and will continue to be. Only a handfull of us can say we went to Tech and combine the absolute education along with world class athletics accross the board.Go Tech!

THERE IS NO LEADER OUT THIS GROUP! THAT IS THE 1ST PROBLEM. THEY HAVE TOO MANY OFFENSIVE LAPSES. A RESULT OF NO TRUE LEADER. THEY ALSO DON’T PLAY PHYSICAL AROUND THE BOARDS.THEY BOX OUT VERY POORLY.CAUSING TO MANY EASY BASKETS FOR THEIR OPPONENTS. IF THEY START TO GET THEIR REBOUNDS AND MAKE THEIR FREE THROWS YOU WILL SEE A DIFFERENT TEAM. LET’S GO TECH

Now we lose by 17 at home to that great basketball power, Miami. SURE the team is young, but these double-digit home losses bring back thoughts of the Morrison days. Is it the players, coaching, or both?

Now we lose by 17 at home to that dominant basketball power, Miami. Sure the team is young, but double digit losses at home as regular occurrence is awful. Is the problem coaching, players or both?

I waited till after the Miami game to make my prediction regarding the rest of the season. After losing today, and scoring only 20 points in the second half for the second game in a row, I now predict that they will not win a game the rest of the season.

Gatech92 I don’t think you should be dishing out your basketball thoughts since you don’t know for a fact that the ACC Tourney champ gets an automatic bid to the NCAAs.

“chris”, Thanks for clarifying that golden nugget of wisdom.
Everyone else - guys I was at the Miami game and it’s painfully clear possession by possession what our problems are: Lack of great point guard play is our biggest issue in my view.
The lapses in getting into a good offense, the turnovers, the lack of defensive intensity on the opposition’s point…all these things are cured with a real deal point guard. We have great shooters/wing players…we have quite possibly the best combination of inside players I’ve seen in a while at GT…we just are a good PG away from taking a huge step.
Having a great point guard will apply more pressure defensively where the ball is most of the time, in the oppositions PG’s hands…this will lead to a better turnover ratio in our favor…which leads to points…which leads to runs. On offense, we have such a hard time getting easy shots sometimes, and it’s because no one can dribble penetrate and dish…no one to create…we are doing good to just control the ball without giving up a turnover. A great point guard solves all of that and it’s no small issue…I see it every posession as a huge issue.
Can you imagine next year? Blue chipper point guard coming in. Blue chipper SF coming in. Project 6’10” guy, another Blue chipper giving us a look still (could be a third blue chipper in same year). Add to that Zam, AM, JS, RD all will be Jrs who are sick of hearing about potential and loosing…ready to break out. West will be a solid Sr. JC has looked good only getting better. ..haven’t even mentioned Bell, Diao, AA who all play solid when they get minutes.
We are fine guys…this is the youngest team in the ACC…that alone is enough to loose a lot of games in a frustrating way…combine with this that we have no one who really has PG mentality and it’s no wonder we are having an admittedly disappointing year.
Heads up guys…We are on every great prospects list for 07 too…keep up our positive energy…we are looking good for the future…we were in for a long season and we’ve gotten it…no need to panic…I see nothing but great things for the years to come!
(sorry if misspellings, it’s late and I don’t feel like spell-checking)
