No SEC title? No problem

Jeff Schultz

There was a slight surprise, if not an extreme show of bravado, in Georgia’s team meeting room this week. The Bulldogs’ “Wall of Fame,” which lists the team’s championships by year, had “2007” added below the heading of “SEC East” titles.

That is, of course, not how most will see it.

Tennessee’s earlier thumping of the Dogs, combined with a narrow escape Saturday, fairly well confirmed things. The Volunteers won the SEC East. They will play for the SEC championship. They will have a chance to go to the Sugar Bowl. No matter that some in Athens prefer to recognize Georgia as “co-champions.”

Know what?

It shouldn’t matter.

If ever there was a season for Georgia to let go of its SEC obsession, this is the one. That may sound strange — even borderline sacrilegious — in these parts. But when a team starts 4-2, and has just been stripped of its dignity (to say nothing of a few major organs) in Knoxville, and requires a late field goal to claim victory in Vanderbilt, a BCS bowl game isn’t a mere consolation prize.

A BCS bowl is manna from heaven.

For the seventh time in Mark Richt’s seven seasons, Georgia dumped Georgia Tech on Saturday, 31-17 at Bobby Dodd Stadium. For the third time in Richt’s seven seasons, the Bulldogs will almost certainly go to a BCS game. It won’t be Sugar, but it likely will be Rose, Orange or Fiesta.

Would that have seemed possible after a home loss to South Carolina, or a 35-14 humiliation at Tennessee, which caused normally reserved Richt to become more, shall we say, animated with his players?

“We didn’t think much of anything was possible after leaving Knoxville, as far as goals go,” Richt said. “Eastern Division champions — probably not. The SEC [championship] is out of the question, if you can’t get that. Never would you think of a BCS bowl. Even if we won out, we probably wouldn’t be thinking BCS bowl.”

Rose, Orange or Fiesta. Consolation prize? After the Tennessee game, the Dogs seemed destined for Shreveport — which was to assume they would be bowl-eligible. But they have won six straight — over Vanderbilt, Florida, Troy, Auburn, Kentucky and Tech. There was a time when really only the Troy game looked like a lock.

Put this down as one of Richt’s best coaching jobs. He recognized the need to change how he dealt with players to a degree, and he did. It made the difference.

“Giving up the play-calling this year allowed him to get to know the players a little better,” said quarterback Matthew Stafford, who had a 31-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and threw a 9-yard scoring pass to Mohamed Massaquoi late in the half, putting Georgia ahead to stay at 16-14. “He’s a great motivator. It was exciting, seeing himself let go a little bit.”

Stafford said the Dogs were “fighting for our lives in Tennessee. We got it handed to us in that game. But we came back, and we’ve been playing with some passion and emotion in the last six or seven weeks. That really did turn around our season.

And as the Dogs started winning, weird things started happening around them. Tennessee lost to Alabama, which then lost to everybody else. Florida tumbled. Around the nation, teams started falling, turning the BCS rankings into a continuously mutating blob. Ohio State lost. Boston College lost twice. LSU lost. Then Arizona State, then Oregon.

The Bulldogs? They have climbed in the BCS rankings from 20th to 18th to 10th to ninth to seventh. They’ll likely be at least fifth when the new BCS pecking order comes out Sunday.

Richt held out hopes late Saturday for the SEC title game. He said somebody told him “in the middle of the third quarter” that Kentucky had beaten Tennessee. He considered telling his players immediately, then opted to wait until after the quarter. Fortunately, he checked with somebody first and was told the correct result: The Volunteers won in the fourth overtime.

“So I did go into the tank slightly,” he said. “I guess it put a little damper on everything. But it’s been a wonderful year.”

The focus should be on that last sentence. “Damper” and BCS bowl don’t intersect.

I believe after the Tennessee loss most dog fans would not have predicted a finish like this. We just need to “finish the drill” and beat our BCS bowl oponent. That will give us a strong pre-season ranking to make a run at the NC next season. Go Dawgs!

That is called rationalization. Yes UGA fans are obsessed with SEC titles, because they can’t win National Titles. Since they can’t get any titles this year, it is time for them to get excited about playing in a BCS bowl. Isn’t that exciting. Oh well Tebow for Heisman.

CMR and the entire Team deserve props for taking a season that appeared to be all but over and making it into a great run. CWM will continue to build a solid “D” and CMB has plenty to build on from this year. KM, MS, AA and a host of other dawgs return. CSS has helped build a solid line of young pups and they will only get better in the years to come. UGA has the future in their grasp. Finish the season by coming ready to play from the opening kickoff in the BCS game and finish the year off with a great recruiting class. Go Dawgs!!!

Luck was on the side of the Vols. Winning the last two by a grand total of…..3 points.

BCS is good… Maybe the young Dawgs will remember this season, take it for what it is, and next season realize that passion, hard work, determination, and toughness are all you need to win, start to finish.. They found all of it late in the season, when they shouldn’t have lost ANY this year. SC and UT are garbage.. UGA could have run the table, seriously.

I can NOT wait until next year. Very tough schedule, no bye until the week before GT.. And 6 conference games in a row, 4 on the road, SOLID!

UGA is just as deserving to play for the SEC title as Tennessee. Tennessee barely beat Vandy as well and blew a large lead against unranked Kentucky today to barely defeat them as well. Hello, this is the SEC and UGA has a better overall record! This article has no merit whatsoever.

Dawg fans, you can’t say the vols won because they werejust lucky. If you watched the game, Kentucky got “lucky” in many situations. The reason the game even went to overtime was because the Vols dropped 2 game ending interceptions, and many other 3rd down conversions late. But good luck in your BCS bowl. See ya next October…

It’s just hillarious how you UGA fans were discussing SEC title and national title earlier in the week. And now you’re trying to sugar coat (no pun intended) this whole thing yet again. I give you props for your optimism but when all is said and done you let a team you already describe as pathetic beat you and take your division title away from you. You say YOU deserve to go to the Dome? Well then don’t quit next year in the UT/UGA game. Two years in a row you just quit. So insult UT all you want. We beat you. We won the division. And we’re going to the Dome. No matter how you spin it, you’re sitting back hoping other people lose more than you already have to get somewhere. You couldn’t earn it on your own. You relied on others to fail more than you already failed. Chew on that bone for a while.

Georgia has two national championships - 1942 & 1980, look it up yourself.

Florida didn’t even win its first conference title until something like ‘91 or ‘92, so Gator fans should be barred from talking trash for at least 60 years - the length of time it took to win their first SEC title.

Gators backed into both of their national title games after huge upsets, and have never had an undefeated season in 75 years of football. Let’s talk tradition Gators, any time.

Bottom line is this - If the Dawgs had taken care of business with South Carolina and/or Tennessee, then none of the above would apply. We would be in the SEC title game, and we would be ranked higher. The lesson: Don’t wait until someone else wins or loses; take your own destiny in your own hands and win the games with your own complete effort! Then, it won’t matter who else wins or loses! Go Dawgs in the Rose Bowl!

How bout them DAWGS! they will finish ranked 4th or 5th with a BCS bowl berth. They will be ranked higher than LSU go figure. Tennessee is ranked what number 19 ? go figure. I guess the 2nd and 4th best in the SEC get to play for the SEC title. This is my top six. 1.Gerogia 2.LSU 3.Florida 4.Tennessee 5.Auburn 6.Arkansas… What do you Think?

Fat boy will keep his job unless LSU spanks them good. If that happens, Rocky top will change to “hit the road Jack”! Georgia has had a great year since the Tennessee game and I can’t wait to see them in Athens next year. We should all enjoy the BCS game and all the glory it brings. Florida should remember the score of when we played in Jacksonville. And, just shut up!

Kiss this, nerds !! 31 - 17

UT won the East fair & square, but when you come to Atlanta, please don’t introduce your sister as your wife - it may not help you get a job working for your Vander-brat bosses in the future.

And 5 straight losses for Spurrier to close out the season ??? Other than KU’s Mangino falling on and squashing Jane Fonda - what more could we possibly ask for ?? Just Clarence the Boore leaving town.

I don’t see UT beating a mad LSU team next week. I think UGA gets to number 5 in the polls, but no higher this week. W will see what happens after the games next week. As far as the 1942 National Champions, that was shared. UGA beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl that year, and were ranked Number 1 in one of the polls. Ohio State was voted Number 1 in the other poll.

So, UGA didn’t make it to the SEC championship game. The Vols got lucky and just scraped by Vandy and UK. So, while the Dawgs finish the season with a higher ranking and the prospect of a BCS bowl, Tenneesee can look forward to a proper a* kicking from LSU. I’d have to say it’s a pretty damn good consolation prize. Can’t wait for next season.

I can’t believe John’s post was actually posted. What a vulgar p.o.s. I love the dawgs and I love beating the geeks. The sadest thing I have ever heard was a Tech fan saying to me, “Go Vols!” after the game. Can you imagine living vicariously through another team when your team can’t get the job done? I would kill myself before I did that. Lets tie the drought next year!

I save my hate for the dude-kissing crybabies at Florida. So I can give Tennessee credit for three things. 1. Beating our tails like they owned us. 2. Pulling out a tough win against a deceptively good Vandy team. 3. Coming back the next week, and beating Kentucky after 4 overtimes.

And I really don’t know if they get beat by LSU… LSU may have a hangover after blowing their chance. But to me, who wins the SEC Championship is irrelevant. Won’t be Georgia, won’t be Florida, and no way LSU brings and NC to the SEC this year… so I’m fine with whoever.

no matter how many games the Bulldogs win, I am so glad I’m not a UGA fan, the team is classless and the fans are just as bad. UGA makes the University of Miami look like they have character! lose with dignity and honor and win with even more, I’m old school and still believe what my coaches told me about sportsmanship, but dancing around like an idiot at a hip-hop club, is ignorant, low class and sign of a deep lack of character. celebrate winning, but do it with respect and some intelligence. the great ones never had to dance around like a trained monkey and the great ones never needed to pour salt in the wounds of their opponents. many of these players will be in the newspapers ten years from now, and it won’t be anything good.

To the Tenn fans. Congrats on going to the SEC championship but quit bad mouthing the Dogs. At least we didn’t get blown out 3 times this year, only 1 time. And after the hated Gators handed you your butts you can’t really say you were the best in the East now can you. However I do wish you the best of luck in next weeks game. I hope you pull it out for the East but please don’t do what you usually do, make the SEC look bad by losing the bowl game.

Am I the only one who think foul mouthed UT fans should be sterilzed at birth? Seriously… Yeah great, you backed you’re way into an SEC East title. You’re still gonna get blown out by LSU. They’ll go to the Sugar Bowl, you’ll end up back in Atlanta for the Chick-Fil-A bowl, and without even claiming a SEC title will be playing a BCS bowl game in Jan. While youre getting blown out again by either VT or BC or whoever is left to play you guys, will be facing off against Ohio State, USC, Oklahoma, or WV depending on how this stupid computer system pans it all out. So go ahead and gloat about youre technicality, I would try to forget about my mediocre season too, and the fact that most of the decent players my team has… are leaving… HAHAHA

First I want to keep my word and congratulate the Tennessee Volunteers on winning the east and getting to the championship game in Atlanta. You did what you had to do plus you’ve owned my boys in red and black for the past two seasons. Enjoy it now because I think we’ll have something very special waiting for you next year in Athens. Frank you are absolutely 100% correct. This very fine season could have been even better! We’ve got to bring it every game and not take a weekend off like we did in Knoxville or think we can win just because we are the University of Georgia … like we did against South Carolina earlier this season. With next year’s schedule one of the toughest I’ve seen in recent memory, things could get ugly in a hurry if the Dawgs don’t prepare and play their best each and every Saturday. But with all that said I’m very happy with the way Richt and crew led this team after Knoxville and the very fine season they’ve just finished. To all you Tech fans … you’ve got a hell of a defensive coach in John Tenuta. And you have a real star in that kid Burnett who made one of the finest touchdown saving deflections I’ve ever seen in the first half. Man I wish he’d signed with the Dawgs! I think luck was on our side today in Atlanta but also think our numbers wore you down in the second half. You had your opportunities though! I guess maybe it is time for Chan to go! However you folks would be wise to keep Tenuta where he is … if you can! With two losses and probably not a real chance to jump Ohio State and play for the NC, I’m not overly concerned about missing the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. Even though they looked demoralized after their loss on Friday, I think LSU will be a bad-tempered monster against the Vols. I’m thinking they’ll play like they did when they humiliated a pretty good Miami team in the Peach Bowl a couple of years ago. Plus I didn’t really want to play a very good but nontheless I think over-rated Hawaii team in the Sugar Bowl. Again little to gain but everything to lose! So now I think we’ll play either BC or VA Tech in the Orange, Oklahoma or Missouri in the Fiesta, or Southern Cal in the Rose. Not bad for playing second fiddle to Tennessee in the east this year, huh? All three are great options but since I think it’ll be VA Tech in the Orange, I’d rather not play them since we played them last year. I like the thought of possibly playing Oklahoma in the Fiesta, but man would I relish the exposure for our program by playing in the Rose Bowl … the big daddy of them all! In reality though either option will be a great way to end a very, very good season. Congratulations Dawgs!

UT beats Vandy & Kentucky by a total of 3 points - one game takes 4 overtimes to do it in. UT take the SEC East and gets demolished by LSU then goes to a toilet bowl and ends up 9 - 5 or 10 - 4.

UGA wins their last two games by 25 points, is rated 4th or 5th in the country and goes to a major BCS Bowl and ends the season 11 - 2 or 10 - 3.

Business for Athens General Hospital is booming this year. They will do more artificial knee replacements than any other hospital in the US. How can that be you ask? Well with all of the UGA fans jumping on and off the UGA band wagon this season and trying to recapture the memories of when UGA had a real football program, which was almost 3 decades ago, they simply are wearing out their knees. The good news is they will get some rest this weekend as they get to watch the 2 Divisional winners play and remain in denial about not achieving their most touted, most vocalized goal, which was to win the SEC EAST. Rob, you are the leader of DAWGS in DENIAL. There is so many flaws in your logic, or attempt therein, that one would run out of space correcting you. How impressive was yesterdays trouncing of the unranked, 6-5, ACC perannial cellar dwellers? Oh, and that thumping of Vandy, Western KY. Lets not forget how the Dawgs man handled Troy.

Fact is UT has won. Perhaps not all of them pretty, but nonetheless they won. They just did to KY what LSU couldnt do, which was beat KY in their house and when the SEC East was on the line.

You would be a bigger and better man if you could just let go and say, Good game and congratulations UT. But no, you sit there and sulk and make excusses like an 8 year old. The true Dawg fans on this blog should call you out and tell you to grow up.

Great year for the Bulldogs! Yet another 10+ win season, and we are BCS bound. Top five finish very likely, and we return 90% of our team next year. Probably start 2008 in the top two.

Tech fans - nice game for your team last night. Now, shut up. The smack talking prior to the game is ok. The crude and vicious hate after the game is beneath even you.

Vols fans - it is not like you dominated the SEC East this year or handled the last few weeks without some incredibly good luck. Just go to the game next week smiling and don’t brag too much. There is a time for that - after you beat LSU. If you must celebrate, wait and take your sister out for a dinner and wine AFTER you win the game against LSU.

Hey Dawg fans, can you speak up a little? I can’t hear you over the sound of all our winning.

UF has two outright national championships, UGA has one. Sorry, sharing that 1942 title with Ohio State counts as half.

Call us back when you win seven SEC titles. Until then, bask in the glory of your one upstart season before you return to mediocrity next year, when UF will exact its revenge in an absolute thrashing of the Pups.

Enjoy your BCS bowl. We’re okay with a rebuilding year after winning our second national championship because, you know, we can do it in less than 27 years. We’re happy with a very likely Heisman winner this year. Oh yeah, Tebow would be our third winner, which is one more than UGAy.

Boots - no one team dominated the SEC East this year. UT beat the crap out of UGA. UF beats the crap out of UF. Then UGA beats the crap out of UF. As for luck, that is when you sieze opportunity. Dont talk luck about Vandy as UGA had its share. Without the fumble on the six yard line, the whole dawgs season could have fully imploded. Enjoy the accomplishments of your team, but dont try and down play the success of another. The fact always will remain that you cant b*** if your team doesnt beat the other in head to head play. Teams have got to bring it each and every Saturday if you want to be the NC.

All things considered, the SEC Championship game would have offered the Dawgs a chance to climb the polls another notch, maybe. But in those same considerations, it is the SEC that is damaged by having Tennessee with a chance to represent it… should they upset LSU. There is no small amount of irony here that the hottest team in the league will not have the opportunity to carry the SEC banner into a bowl game.

But facts are facts. The Dawgs did this to themselves, falling flat to the Volunteers. Throttled they were, embarrassed before the nation so, Tennessee fans do have a legitimate claim (albeit purely a technical one when held up to the scrutiny of any inspection of the final, end of season product).

Personally, I think the conference would have been better served by a LSU v. UGA matchup. It would have looked better in the BCS master machine afterwards too. LSU won’t be able to claim a lot by beating a UT team that required a fluke of luck in overcoming UK in what… four OTs? On the other side of the coin of possibilities, a Tennessee upset of LSU won’t be nearly enough to make them much more than SEC Champs in name only.

In the end, the only claim that Tennessee has this year is that they did beat the best team in the SEC earlier in the year.

I can’t figure out why the Tennessee, Florida and Tech fans feel like they have to come on here to vent their anger. Pretty pathetic display if you ask me.

To the DAWGS: Great season after a shaky start. Coach Richt, you have done a masterful job this season and any bowl we get into will be a blessing after the way we started. To finish in the top 10 after the Tenn. game…simply amazing.

To Tenn fans: Good luck in Atlanta. Here’s hoping we can keep the championship in the east.

To Florida fans: Tebow is an amazing athlete. If he would not have been injured in the game against us…who knows what happens. Good luck in your bowl.

To Tech fans: Your defense was solid and Choice ran well but it wasn’t to be. Good game and good luck in the Emerald Bowl. Should be a jewel…he he he.

Why are all these Vol fans trying to defend their team going to the SEC Championship? It’s almost like they feel undeserving. They won and they are going even if they are scared that LSU will be the crap out of them and people will say that it should have been the better team Georgia that played LSU. I bet Phat Phil is scared.

Jeff and all other delusional dawgs try to grasp this. UT doesn’t have to defend their SEC East Championship. They WON it, outright. They beat UGA, I mean totally destroyed UGA. As for LSU, they are a very good team, but are beatable. UK did it, as did Arkansas. I love UT coming into that game with everyone thinking they arent worthy. The pressure will clearly be on LSU to win convincingly. Ever notice that UT generally responds well to those games. Translated into Dawg fan terms - UT gets lucky in those games, right.

Best of luck to the Dawgs in their BCS bowl game and please make the SEC proud.

I haven’t seen very many people who are denying that the Dawgs lost their chance at the SEC by losing to the Vols earlier in the season. But what many are saying, and I have to concur, is that at this point in the year, Georgia would have been the better choice to challenge for the conference title.

You can take that as you choose and make up cute little jokes but, you do more appear to be bandaging your logic with the poor humor… and failing.

Congrats UGA on beating Tech, good luck in the BCS bowl.

I find it a little ironic your telling US we got LUCKY these last two games. If I remember right if Vandy doesn’t fumble with like a minute left in y’alls game you lose right? You lose that game you probably don’t make the season changing adjustments…don’t make those you don’t beat Florida and your going to the Toliet Bowl in BumF*$!, USA. But hey…I guess you WILLED that ball out and kicked the game winning FG then proceeded to jump up and down like your momma won the lotto b/c God willed it. Get a grip retards.

As for next year and you being sooooooooooooooo good…I hate to tell you but everyone who made plays for UT in this game is coming back. Ainge is the only one leaving that really matters, but luckily (see I used your favorite excuse word ‘luck’) Crompton is just as good. He’s sure as hell better than that chubby puppy Stafford. So keep thinking next year is gonna be some grand National Championship year…it’s not. Florida or Tennessee will win the SEC East next year, your gonna be playing some crap ACC team in the Peach Bowl.

I’d say back to the middle of the pack…but to be fair, you never really were ahead of the pack. Have fun with the illusions of granduer. You stink this year, your 2nd best in your own division, your not that good this year and you won’t be that good next year.

We UT fans and alumni are not “psyching” ourselves into beieving we are good enough to play in th e SEC game—-we are. We beat about 5 teams that were ranked in the top 10 at some point in the season-KY, SC AR, GA, et cetera. We pummeled the team that everyone on this blog is claiming is truly the best in the SEC. We have owned your program with the exeception of 01 02 03 and 05. Other than those four years we’ve beaten you guys like 15 out of 20 years. SO get over it. We are good and will prove it again on Saturday. True champions find ways to win, just ask our 98 squad, they’ll tell you a little luck is required. The painful truth is this: If UGA had taken care of business in Knoxville, all of this discussion would be academic. But ifs and buts were candy and nut what a wonderful time it would be!

However, at season end UT will be 9-5 and unranked. LSU will beat you by 20, and you will lose to an average Big Ten team in the Outhouse bowl (yet again), while UGA will finish in the top 3. The fact that beating UGA made your season shows your respect for us, and we appreciate it.

Another loss to a Bowden…5 losses in a row. 3 straight seasons of at least 5 losses…Man, I’m washed up. Big time. I wonder how many more years the folks here in Carolina are going to put up with this kind of mediocrity. Since they probably remember how I used to Lord it over them and the rest of the SEC when I was HBC at Florida, they probably don’t like me much. They just liked the promise of conference and BCS glory I brought with me.

To make it worse, I didn’t even ruin Georgia’s season like I thought I did. They are going to a BCS bowl, and still have an outside shot at making it to the BCS title game. At least I can tell folks I won one against them at SC before I was fired. Not that they are some big, powerful team…

Gators hate history, because their’s sucks. No conference titles from the inception of the SEC to 1991, a span of 59 years. As a columnist once said, before Spurrier came along, they had the arrogance of Notre Dame and the tradition of Wake Forest (except for the cheating and probation part, that is. I believe the tradition says

* University of Florida, National Champions*

Like it or not Gator Hunter, “tradition” shows that in the past 20 years, Florida has owned Georgia, played in and won National Championships, while Georgia has feasted on Outback and Capital One bowls.

Wait till next year, do you REALLY think we lose to Georgia again.. Not

Hootie, that almost clinches #4 for the BCS, I figure 60% probability Okla wins times 30% probabilty Pittsburgh wins equals 18% prob overall that UGA goes to the Championship … who would have thunk it ???

well, every year after the Tech/UGA game i come on the Dawgs blog just to see whats being said about the game. Congrats again, and as much as i hate to say it, again, you were the better team again, (dam this is getting redundant LOL) anyway. I love Georgia Tech and i always will, and i have faith that i will have better days Sundays following the Tech/UGA in the future, just not today. You guys got the bounces, the big plays a couple of calls (nothing for me to cry about, every one gets bad calls) and your team proves why its a top five program. i cant promise i wont talk trash next year during rivalry week, it wouldnt be fun if i didnt. But just like this year and last year and the year before i will realistically go into every game against the Dawgs expecting to win. Its up to you guys to prove me wrong. Just like you guys i am a fan of my team, i will never lose faith in my team. thats the nature of a true fan, we see things beyond belief and expectations. it hurts to lose and it really hurts to lose to the dawgs for seven years straight. but i am still proud of every player on my team, they played there heart out. After it was over i was glad to the players man enough to shake the hands of Ga players, and see them kneel after the game and pray together. if they are man enough to show some sportsmanship, then so can I.

Before I go, i will say this in closing. NEVER take a guy like coach Richt for granted, he and his coaching staff are great coaches. i am shocked when after you guys lose you want to fire the coach. be careful what you wish for, it may come true. Congrats again Dawgs nation, you guys deserve it.

GO JACKETS!!!

Now I can tell some of you Tech folks are upset with me. Just let me remind you that I am a nice man. I also have 4 years left on a contract that will cost you $4 million to buy out. I do not know what all this fussing about won-lost records is all about anyway. Someone I once knew and loved said “It’s just a game, dog.” I think we should all think about that. If you get upset about a tech loss, then concentrate on your SAT score. If the team has a bad day, think about the amount of money you THINK you will make when you graduate. Of course it won’t be as much as me. As for hiring another coach, I cannot for the life of me think of anyone who realistically would take this job. Tech is a trash heap.

Can’t wait to read how much UT sux if they beat LSU…wonder how GA fans will twist it around when UT is the SEC champs? How all of a sudden they are so much better than the team that whipped their butt…again! Alot of talk of barely beating VU..guess those 3 points GA beat VU by was somehow forgotten…as well as the lost to USC…or the 10 point victory over the mighty Troy. Enjoy what you have..it could have been worse.

What TNJed doesn’t realize is once LSU beats Tenn in the SECCG, Tenn will be making a trip to a lesser bowl such as the Capital One Bowl or Outback bowl where they will play a middle of the pack Big 10 team. Sure we aren’t going to the SEC title game but we are going to a BCS bowl and UT isn’t. The Vols beat us but we are still ranked higher, top 5 in the BCS, we beat Florida and Alabama head to head, and will be spending New Years on South Beach. You hillbillies can have fun in Atlanta.

This feel like the loss of great friend or like a divorce. It hurts a great deal. But I hate the idea of getting used to it. UGA showed terrific improvement this season. Knowshon looked like a very avg back today but it’s very clear that he has provided the major push to the UGA offense in most games this year. The key to UGA this year is what it always has been in the past, the defense which has improved dramatically. Even though Choice picked up 35 yards in five carries after taking the snap (amazing)the UGA defense is the single cause for UGAs rise this season. This has always been the case at UGA. Offense gets the press. Defense wins the games.

Finally, all you UGA fans can shut up. You didn’t win the East and have ZERO shot at a national championship. Better luck next year.

Hootie, those last 3 came on strong, 4th, 3rd and 2nd :)) … it’s now on the ESPN site, UGA 4th in BCS (5th with computer guys, behind Kansas)

Would love to se UGA in the Fiesta or Rose, especially, though playing Oklahoma or Southern Cal would be a lot tougher I imagine than playing BC or VT.

Having recently played VT, it would be fun to get out of the East/SE.

Ah, we don’t have zero shot for the Mythical National Championship, but odds are slim.

As for better luck next year… WE’RE GUARANTEED A SPOT IN A BCS BOWL.

Not even the rose can pick Illinois over us to hold onto their lame tradition.

I think we’ve had an awesome year, Hillbilly. Y’all won’t be able to say the same when LSU kills you and you embarass the SEC in yet another bowl game.

To the loser who just posted as UGA -sick of it…I’ve got bad news for you Bozo. If Missouri loses to Oklahoma next week (they have lost to them once this year) and West Virginia loses to Pittsburgh Georgia will play Ohio State for the National Championship.

Chance of that happening? In the 30% range.

And if it doesn’t happen this year, Georgia will be back the next few years with all the great young talent that just came on the scene this year and the top ranked recruting class we have coming in.

So go get used to it you sick loser

… talking about odds, now roughly 20% probability UGA goes to the BCS championship and a better than even chance we beat Ohio State, not too shabby …

… also, 50% chance either WVA or Missouri loses, in which case UGA plays in the Rose vs USC …

… 25% chance we end up in Orange, the other 5% Fiesta ..

Georgia not making it to the SEC championship is probably a blessing in disguise, believe it or not. The Dawgs are almost guaranteed a BCS berth, and besides, this might give the young Dawgs some incentive for 2008. If the Dawgs are lucky injury-wise the next two years like we were this season, Georgia should be a player in both the SEC and National Championship picture.

Besides, I am proud of the fact that Georgia defeated Florida, Auburn, and Georgia Tech in the same season, something that has NOT been done since Herschel Walker’s Heisman year of 1982. That to me is almost as good as winning an SEC championship. Not only that, Georgia defeated both Alabama and Auburn in the same season. I guess that makes Georgia not only the Georgia state champs but the Alabama state champs as well.

I think it is nice that Tenn and LSU can play next week for #2 and #3. in the SEC, #1 has been decided. UGA UGA UGA UGA. All the smack talk TENN and where ever yall hail from wont change that.

Embarrassed by S.C., & we were mentally beaten before we played a down at Tenn. Anyway, we have earned the right to be where we are. Beating Auburn & Tech was great, but beating Fla made my season! Even if GA could not win the Nat Champ, I always pull for an SEC team to do so (except for the Gators!) Figured it would have been LSU.

Tdog…you are an idiot…but for the sake of argument, what rationale did you use to come up with your thought of UGA being #1 in the conference? Some sportswriter’s opinion? If UGA is #1 then why aren’t they playing for the SEC championship?

Well, well, Techmites bite the sawdust again - nice effort though. Go VOLS - beat those over-rated Tigers. Enjoy the Sugar with the Hawaian war dance while we play for higher stakes.

I read a few pieces of this drivel but, even if I were in prison, I would never have the time to read all of it. Why does everybody hate UGA ? Its not that UGA is the Yankees. They haven’t won a nat champ in modern history, they aren’t the champs of their half-conference, they fire coaches regularly. So why does everybody hate UGA ?

The Bengal Tigers will get their act together and wear out the Vols….even with more fans in the Dome. Can someone explain to me what all has to happen for Georgia to make it to the NC game? I know Missouri must lose to OK. and WVU must get beat by Pitt, which is HIGHLY unlikely, but is this Pitt upset the most unlikely of all the pieces that put Georgia in the game. someone spell it out on this forum if you know….thanks guy’s. See you all at that lil. insignificant game in Athens next year between the Dogs and Vols! m.pie

Let others lose so we can back into the game. We just embarressed, I mean humiliated, er, ahh, I mean beat Tech so we are really, really, really, good. Just ask OK State (6 -6), or Western Carolina (1 - 10) or 6 -6 USA, even though we lost to them - it was early and we werent paying attention causse we didnt hear the whistle. Really, were really, really, really, getting better! Really!

**Top 10 things UGA fans and UGA VI have in common:

10) Sleep all day and dont contribute to society 9) You get to poop outside and in front of anyone and everyone 8) Just butt ugly, and thats just the girls 7) You like to sniff others butts 6) You occassionally like to eat someone elses poop 5) Being collared and on a leash makes you a bit randy baby 4) Clueless, but bark anyway 3) Choose Red and Black for all fashion emergencies because it makes your butt look smaller 2) Get feed without earning it 1) Get to lick your own wiener, for a change

You have got to love the SEC**

Been reading all these posts and i agree with some and not with others. I like all the teams that are mentioned in the SEC; however, i am inviting each of you to watch the fastest team in football play in the National Championship Game against whomever they are matched. The facts don’t lie and neither do the scores, West Virginia University is the quickest offense and fastest defense in college football today.
