Richt should know better
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Guess those little green men who sneaked into Jacksonville last Saturday for the Georgia-Florida football game and yanked the real Mark Richt away in their spaceship have returned him.
Welcome back, coach.
We forgive you.
Now don’t ever do that again - or anything close.
The real Mark Richt wrote a letter of apology to the SEC office this week for ordering his Georgia players to ignore the consequences and celebrate en masse on the field after they scored their first touchdown against the hated Gators.
Yes, I know. Richt mentioned that his players misunderstood his instructions, and that the celebration became more elaborate than he had planned. He said he wanted just those on the field to go nuts while jumping and screaming and clowning in the end zone, not the entire team. It’s just that such confusion happens when you deliberately tell folks who respect you to break the rules.
This shows that even a typically level-headed guy such as Richt can get so wrapped up in trying to beat somebody at all cost that you can lose your mind for the moment.
Contrary to popular belief, Georgia was going to hammer a flawed Florida team anyway. Too much Knowshon Moreno. In fact, without the penalties after that end-zone silliness (five in the first quarter, contributing to two Florida touchdowns), Georgia’s 42-30 blowout would have been worse.
And what better way to fire up your players than to keep reminding them all week that those hated Gators had won 15 of the previous 17, eight of nine and two in a row? Plus, Richt had Georgia legends Vince Dooley and D.J. Shockley deliver pep talks to the players during the week.
That’s motivation enough.
The long-term consequences for Richt regarding that celebration (making it difficult for his players in the future to determine when they should play within the rules or outside the rules, triggering copy cats across the country, giving the Gators more anger next year) don’t justify the short-term pleasure (finally beating Florida).
The real Mark Richt realized as much - you know, when he finally returned to earth.

Win at ALL costs? A deliberate 22 yard penalty. Moore, you must be kidding. After Florida mugged Stafford 5 seconds after he took a knee Meyer whined that his player could not hear the whistle. Did any AJC writer notice this? The game was 5 days ago. This is old news. Wait til Richt’s Tech pep talk and you’ll really have something to write about for a week.

What the heck arrogant, down your nose looking, SOB are you that you forgive Mark Richt. He did what he did, in the moment, to motivate his players. Most of your peers think it was a great move. You have never coached, you don’t have a clue. All you do is Monday morning quarterback and then write your stupid thoughts of what you see. You are an idiot and an obvious product of the AJCs affirmative action program.

While I have a different opinion than you do regarding what Coach Richt did, your articles this week have had some merit. It is unlike Richt’s character. That’s why it worked! One more thing. Contrary to YOUR belief, Georgia may not have not won that game without that celebration act. Like one of the interviewed NCAA coaches said, the players concentrated on celebrating after their first score for those two previous weeks rather than concentrating on the mysterious power that Florida has seemed to have over Georgia in recent years.

I’ve been in Atlanta now for about 2 years. I’ve finally come to the realization that nearly 80% of what you write is for “effect” and “reaction”. Unfortunately, those of us who are foolish enough to get upset or react to your columns only provides more reasons for you to write them (and obviously that makes you a commodity at AJC). At the end of the day, it’s one person options who’s getting paid to get folks to react and read - no matter how absurd your’s often are.

Terence, you’re probably right about the Bulldogs winning anyway, and about making Florida madder next year. But, I doubt that Mark Richt has been anxiously awaiting your apology.

I wanted to say that I hope you do not take this personally but then again I really hope that you do. Thank you for allowing us to waste part of our $.50 to get your take on the matter. By the way, we also know about you. You can be thankful the AJC has a good equal opportunity policy. There’s always one out there! You’re points are ridiculous (we would’ve beat them worse without the penalty’s). Without playing with heart we couldn’t have beat a highschool team. Richt DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO to simply show these young men that they can play together and with heart. If that takes a couple of penalty’s, so be it. This was a lesson far more thank doing wrong or right in the rule book, mr. terrence, it was a lesson of PASSION that those kids and to be quite frank many of the fans will take with them for the rest of their lives. GO DAWGS!

Personally, I don’t think he should have apologized. The celebration was meant for our players and by extension our fans. It wasn’t done on Florida’s side of the field, in front of their bench or even in their general direction.
I’m so glad that you and the rest of the Florida fans are so concerned about the SEC’s image.
If Georgia had lost all these Florida fans who are whining and carrying on like the team chomped at them in front of their bench, would’ve been laughing and thinking it was funny that Georgia had such a celebration and lost the game.
And Mr. Moore, Coach Richt has more class in his little finger than you will ever have in your entire life.

He’s teaching his kids to “break the rules”? We’re talking about a celebration penalty, not a chop block or late hit. (like the one committed against Stafford)
If you’re so knowledgeable about this game, why aren’t you coaching instead of being a hack writer? You’re just a self-righteous idiot who doesn’t deserve to write about ANY of Georgia’s sports teams.

“Giving the gators more anger for next year” Please!!! That celebration was within the first 3 minutes of the game…Florida had 57 minutes + t.v. timeouts, commercial breaks, a half-time speech and alloted timeouts to get angry and get revenge…the emotion that came from the celebration was raw and certainly won’t be duplicated 12 months from now!!! It was a genius move at the time and will always be relevant for 10/27/07 not ‘08
Moore you amaze me. Not only is your writing elementary, but you fail to follow basic journalism 101 principles in how you frame your arguments…You, just like your fellow-cowriters at the ajc, think you add something to sports, a missing element that’s needed to make sports more enjoyable. You sir aren’t bigger than the game. Your opinion means nothing
One more thing, The key element that you miss is that what Richt did is 2 sides of the same coin, when it comes to celebration and expectations. You don’t celebrate against Vanderbilt because you are expected to win and you go all out against Florida because you have to slap them in the mouth. That’s the beauty of college football. Not the beauty of college football + shoddy and hollow conjecture evidenced in your writings.
I won’t input the race card here but I am an African-American male. You are by far the worse journalist in the media today. Congratulations

I assumed after your last blog article was closed early that you would have reconsidered your view of what happened. Richt’s move inspired the dogs to play at their highest level all season. Fan support was overwhelming as even AJC’s poll shows. There was nothing unsportsmanlike at all meant in the celebration and Coach Richt is every bit the role model he has always been. I’ve defended you time and again against the many racist rednecks who also read this blog when they criticize your views for purely racial reasons. They are wrong when they say you can’t write and that you should be fired. Those people are idiots and their comments are routinely laughed at then ignored. But I can’t help you on this. Congrats to the Dawgnation on its 2007 win at Jax. Seriously.
Now holding an impressive 3-15 record against UF since 1990, you’re well on your way to climbing out of the hole you’ve dug over the past two decades. By the time this team’s kids are old enough to play for UGA, who knows what the W-L balance will look like at this incredible pace of victories?
Also, we’ll be watching closely for your newfound support of other humble, well-mannered coaches who pull Richt-like stunts. Hyprocrites who consistently call out everyone for their lack of humility, smugness and on-field antics are suddenly OK when their team does it. We can only imagine what the UGA faithful would be saying if it wasn’t their guys being penalized. I’m trying to understand Terrence Moore’s thinking here and to compare it to his own over the years. Let’s see if this seems logical…he’s saying that the thoughtful, level-headed, Mark Richt should have prevailed in his personal ‘tug of war’ of deciding what can I do to kick-start my team in a game and rivalry that we’ve lost 12 of the last ever-how-many…play it cool and hope that we’re up to the challenge - a hope that hadn’t helped much over the last decade-plus - or do something out of character, something that would serve to pump up the team and the fans and to let UF know that we didn’t come here just get our butts beaten again? Well, he chose wisely. He took the risk and it paid off. That’s what a winner does. The risk being that if it had failed…if we had indeed gotten our butts beaten, he would indeed, as TM said in his ‘first reaction’ column, have come across as a fool.
Now let’s look at Moore. The one thing that has been consistent about this guy is that no matter what the occasion - a new coach being hired, a player to be signed or released, whatever? If they don’t pick a black coach, or if they cut a black player rather than a white one - even though those charged with the decision have searched their conscience and their collective brains and made the ‘thoughtful, level-headed’ decision and not ‘taken the risk’ of doing something that their mind said wasn’t necessarily the best thing for the team or the program, then Moore’s position is entirely predictable - race wise. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for advancement and opportunity for everybody - regardless of anything - if they’re, in the judgment of those having to make those decisions, the best for the job and the program. I’m just saying that TM seems to apply a different standard to his positions and criticisms depending on his own personal prejudices - or whichever way the wind’s blowing, I can’t decide which.

Even if that WAS the case (which it wasn’t), you can talk all you want about “motivation.” But what it really was was “classless.”
Had Florida done the exact same thing, Georgia fans would be up in arms about it. They’d probably have burned down the damn stadium. But since UGAG did it, it was a brilliant move, right? Get real. If any team had done that to UGAG, you idiots would be whining and crying about it for weeks to come.

If Florida wins the game, the UGA supporters would be calling for CMR’s head. UF had a wounded QB and turnstile defense. Remember, kids and some “hack” youth league and high school coaches emulate what they see on TV. What is one of these intentional penalties goes too far? Where does it end? Saint Mark has opened up a can of worms. Thankfully Urban Meyer showed enough class not to do something similar.

My favorite part: “Georgia was going to hammer a FLAWED Florida team anyway.” Terrance saw it coming everybody. That’s why less than a week ago he wrote that Florida is “perpetually among the nation’s elite” and Georgia is merely an “an elite wannabe”. Even better, Georgia is a “psychological mess at the sight of orange and blue” according to one week ago Terrance. But this week’s Terrance says the Gators were “flawed” and Georgia had this one from the get go.
What a backpedaling HYPOCRITE coward.

Mr. Moore- the Dawg Kool aid drinkers are really on you. My problem is that you did not come down harder on Richt that you did. I had thought that Richt was a straight shooter but this stunt is one for the books. It is bad enough that he did a classless boneheaded thing. But now he is LYING about it-tht’s right Dawgs the missionary is LYING. This was all planned out. What other explanation is ther for 70 guys leaving the bench in the first quarter of a game withou a coach trying to stop them >I have never seen that before. The conference should have suspended Richt for one game_ Oh I am sorry this is the THUG conference. Take Richt to task for LYING. But in fairness Richt has been ok and if he does not repeat this stuff and the team behaves it will not affect his career. It is just a sad moment for the Dawgs and down deep they are really embarassed about it I am sure. If they are notthen they are really as stupid as they sound which is hard to imagine.

Personally, I realize he was trying to use it as a motivational tool, but put the shoe on the other foot.
How would the Bulldog nation feel if the incident was done first by the Gators or Tennessee? They would have chastised that team and the coach unmercifully the rest of the season.

Count me as one fellow in the Dawg Nation who thought the endzone celebration was a bad move. I was thrilled at the early score, then I was, like, “what the HECK are you guys DOING? Do you want to just ERASE this TD?” Then I calmed down and realized that at the very least, this was going to be a game to remember. Even if we got blown out, it wasn’t going to be because we were timid — and frankly we could still claim a little bragging rights after giving the Gators such a plum chance to answer us right back.
So yeah. It wasn’t the best move to make, but in the grand scheme of the game, it didn’t hurt things at all. The 30-yard penalty was punishment enough, giving FL a chance to get some payback.
For what it’s worth, I agree with TM more than I disagree. But I don’t agree with him on this, not really. Mark Richt is enough of a stand-up guy to be allowed a harmless transgression now and then.

I will not subscribe to the AJC untill Mr. Moore is not longer employed by them. It’s not because of this article (I don’t approve the event on Saturday either) but years of terrible articles and what I feel are at times race baiting by Mr. Edwards in an attempt to make a splash. We should just begin ignorming him. By responding we are feeding his need to fire people up. We don’t agree with hardly anything he says so why not just render him irrelavent by not reading or responding to anything he has to say.

You see the blogs are measured not by the what is in the comments but by how many there are and how many “hits” the blog receives. in a few weeks, saturday after thanksgiving in fact, i look forward to GT marching 80 yards down the field and putting up 7 on their first possession. i hope the entire team, hell, the entire stadium, then marches straight onto the field, mocking the slightly retarded “bark” of our friends from Athens. i look forward to UGA’s reaction following that touchdown, their complaints about no “class” and no “honor”. this article by terrance is just a simple way of saying that Richt is a respected, honorable, fantastic coach (this is from a tech fan) who let a rivalry get to his head. did it get the fans and the players riled up? sure - but with the lack of class and civility that we’re accustomed to. on national TV - georgia came away looking like a backwards, ignorant, and classless team - and state.

Until Florida has an unblemished season, EVER, Florida “will live in the shadows” of those that have. Georgia is more accomplished in every manner of measurement than the Gators.

You must be confused because nuveu riche Florida football only started in 1990. That’s ok, it can be hard to keep up sometimes. Georgia football started in the 1800’s. 47-37-4, or since you’re a fan of counting the ones you want and not the rest: 0-1

It amazes me to this day, how so many people who never went to a school will defend it to the death. I think most UGA fans would request that the Vatican enter all UGA football coaches into sainthood as a matter of fact. Even so, that wouldn’t make the fans any smarter. No one can even see that this article had a tiny bit of sarcasm? Apparently humor stops at the loop before you get to Athens. Doesn’t surprise me though, because talking about UGA is soooooo taboo around “these parts”. I think it’s some sort of cult…….

I am not for or against UGA, but as a football fan and as a high school referee I think that sportsmanship and the lessons to the kids are more important than winning any game, and CMR has said as much many times in the past. What worries me about this is the precedent to use rule breaking to “motviate” kids. What lesson does that say to college kids? I worry we see this propogate in college and HS until more strict rules are put it for a super serious penalty.
I also think TM is usually full of it but in this case I think he is trying to think at a much bigger level than UGA.

I have never seen someone so negative about his hometown teams. Do you ever have anything positive to say about the teams in this state. Coach Richt did not do anything wrong. He just allowed them to celebrate something that brought joy to their hearts. Just because it was against the rules and cost them 15 yards, you act like it was an immortal sin. Man,
I almost wish that Tech had time to beat their chests about their current Football team instead of spending every waking minute on UGA blogs. Then again, what are they going to talk about: -Losing recruits to UGA? -Losing six in a row to UGA, soon to be 7? -Losing to a sorry Maryland Terps team? -Playing on Thursday nights? -Playing second fiddle to UGA locally/Nationally? -Losing to Wake in front of 1,500 people in Jacksonville? -Losing to a Virginia team who almost lost to MTSU? -Going back to the blue turf bowl, San Fran Nut Bowl, Continental Tire Bowl, or some other December who cares bowl? -Losing in Bowl games to such great teams as an Urbanless Utah team and Fresno State?
You want to talk about class? How do you explain your pathetic band covering our 100 years of UGA football symbol at mid field during their halftime “performance” years ago? How about tearing up our hedges after beating us eons ago? How about your fans pelting the Maryland band after losing to them again? What about Reggie hitting our Assistant Coach when he was reaching out to break a potential fall? Class? Please! Our team did nothing violent to UF except during the 4 quarters of play to Tebow. Look in the mirror Nerds!!!

Mr. Moore:
Let me point you in the direction of a few facts. UA jumped from 19th and 20th in the rankings to #10. They are the highest ranked 2 loss team in the country.
This did not happen exclusively as a result of UGA’s thumping of the overrated gators. The nation had been lulled into believing FLA had a jink over UGA. But the truth of the matter is that Spurriers real genius in beating UGA was scheduling an open date every year before the WLOCP.
The open date gave Spurrier too much of an advantage. An open date gives any coach an overwhelming advantage.
This year, UGA had the week off. UGA probably would have won the game anyway, but CMR took the bull by the horns to insure victory.
Look at it this way Mr. Moore. Great coache’s, or managers, always look for an advantage. Bobby Cox and others intentionally get thrown out of BB games to fire up there teams. Everytime they do it, they get fined by MLBB. They still do it and MLBB doesn’t really care.
So back to the rankings. For too many years people in your profession have been ignoring CMR when you talk about great coaches. Suddenly, out of the blue, everyone is talking about CMR and the Georgia Bulldogs.
And voila … a #10 BCS ranking.
As a UGA fan for more than 50 yaers I have never been prouder of a couch than I am of CMR today. He took a calculated risk and it paid off big time.
Give the man his due, Mr. Moore. he earned it saturday at the WLOCP.
Go dawgs … celebrate away!

One of Richt’s finest moments in my opinion. Here is the difference from Vandy. One, JAX is not FL’s home stadium, we were NOT on the road in an opponents stadium. And Two, the guys celebrated amongst themselves, they did not push or shove the FL guys, they celebrated. Also, it would not hurt UGA to have a little FSU or Miami swagger in them. Hey Mark, this was ok and its ok to blow people out too. These smaller schools are getting a check who cares if we put up 70.

I’ve just started enjoying TM’s columns since he quit inserting Dr. Harry Edwards’ comments and the “plantation system” into most of his columns about college sports.I guess TM decided that since he now has the “stature” to question other’s “ethics”, he doesn’t need Dr. Edwards theories anymore. Oh yeah, exactly how much did you wager on UGA since you knew “Georgia was going to hammer a flawed Florida team anyway.” What a joke! Too much Knowshon Moreno? Uh,maybe you should also credit all the defensive players who recorded 6 SACKS in the game.Heck, the mighty Gators had only given up 5 sacks all year prior to the game Saturday. So,other than the flawed commentary cited above, you get a “C” for this effort. Keep trying, you can do better.

But it is something like this that makes college football entertaining. “Win at all costs” doesn’t describe an excessive celebration in the end zone. That’s just absurd. “Win at all costs” describes the way SMU and Florida conducted itself in the 1980s with recruiting violations that were so severe, SMU got the NCAA-imposed “death penalty” and Florida was under threat of the same in ‘89. Bulldogs, stop trying to convince the idiots who hate the University of Georgia by reason and logic and truth. It ain’t gonna happen. They have an agenda and they, like Terrance, are gonna ride this one as long as they can. Not everyone likes us! So, what? Who cares. Move on.
BUT, just for those ridiculous Bulldog fans who are wavering in their support because either
a.) they’ve have no memory of history or…
b.) they feel like somehow we’ve just gotta spread the love around and not hurt anyone’s feelings…
Accusation: “How would the Bulldog nation feel if the incident was done first by the Gators or Tennessee?”
Answer: It’s been done quite a bit. From logo stomping to flag planting, disgusting crotch-grabbing/heisman posing and bird-flipping, gator-chomping with the arms at EVERY opportunity (usually right in your face) not to mention opposing players ripping out pieces of our hedges (and don’t give me the crap about our fans doing it. It’s worse and an insult when an opposing team does it.) Oh, let’s see what else… ummmm running up the score when the game was over and 2nd and 3rd stringers playing. Cheap shot hits. Insults before and after the game by the OBC. I can’t even begin to tell you how un-hospitable and obnoxious the fans in Gainesville were when we had to go there with Ray Goff in the ‘90’s. And, on and on and on and on…
(And, yes, newsflash, UGA has more than their share of Idiot, obnoxious fans. but to be called thugs for an endzone caper is just beyond the pale.)
Accusation: “Gee, I thought Saint Mark was a Christian. And isn’t he a hypocrite? I just can’t respect him anymore!
Answer: What? What does celebrating in the endzone have to do with being a Christian? Using his religion against him is a common tactic amongst those who could care less about the man’s religion or the man. If they really wanted to be clever they could say something like “Well, I hate the sin (dancing in the endzone), but love the sinner (Mark Richt) which would be more honest if the accuser in question really gave a flip about Mark’s religion.
AND LASTLY!! (This one I hate the most!) Accusation: “Isn’t big ‘ol mean Florida just gonna get bigger and meaner and really put a whupping on us next year!!???!!
Pause for trembling and tears to roll down cheeks and water the flowers….
answer: As a Bulldog, are you really gonna stand there and say you are afraid?! NO, really, are you afraid? Maybe you should go root for the bugs over off North Avenue, seriously.
Who cares. Bring it on! This is exactly what the CALCULATED move was designed to do. Stop acting and PLAYING like you’re afraid of a bunch of panty wetting-no defense-mullet headed-jean short wearing-THREE LOSS team in the SEC. Georgia OWNS Florida. they just forgot it for the last 17 years.

Man, just say “3-18 since 1990” and it’s so easy to get you people to go into 1980 flashbacks. For anyone in school back then, that would have been like touting all those great wins after World War II! How proud you must be.
Meanwhile, for the rest of us living in the 21st Century, Mild-Mannered “Evil Angel” Richt is still down 2-5 vs. UF. In most big-time programs with rivalry problems, enough to cause fans to grumble (see Tuberville, Fulmer, etc.) All this fanfare and UT still leads UGA in the East.
Mediocrity apparently suits you all well. East teams beating UGA one season or the next has become routine. Try taking your win and move onto Troy. Then, maybe someday when other programs start to openly celebrate wins against your team, instead of the other way around, (and, sorry, Vandy doesn’t count), then you’ll really know you are somebody!

I saw somewhere the Bulldogs were actually committing this ridiculous act for less than eight seconds. The article said from the time the first bench player got to the end zone till they were running back was that short.
Yet that eight seconds tainted Mark Richt in the eyes of Mr Moore.
It would have been different had the Dawgs played like punks in the game, they didn’t. Other then the one weird double face mask penalty and the unsportsmanlike against Mohammed Massaquoi on his 84 yard TD reception (still trying to figure out what he did) the Dawgs were spotless in their character.
In fact and indeed the entire game was hard fought with no jawing back and forth across the lines of scrimmage, so why suggest it affected the character of either team? It didn’t.
Terence, you’ve written some excellent columns over the years but this theme your pursuit that Richt should somehow play the British soldier in the revolutionary War (dress in red, march in straight lines) while welcoming every other coach to play the American patriot (dress in any cloting, hide behind trees and bushes) is, well, laughable.
I expect hard hitting journalism out of you, not a blatant attempt to throw ice water on this completely earend win.
It is so GTish.

I read these rants by UGA fans every week. What an inferiority complex we seem to have. It’s all football and and what others say that we disagree with. One comment that is not pro-UGA results in immediate condemnation and whining. As a UGA alum I wish there was more worry about important concerns like academics. UGA will continue to be a middling big state school in a conference that cares more about wins than academic integrity with support like this. It’s a shame. No wonder a UGA degree means so little outside of the state.

A lot can happen in 8 seconds. As in, a coach can be utterly classless and cause me to lose any respect I ever had for him.
Yep, that was 8 seconds. And there’s the fallout: lose your credibility and respect.

Bill, why would a UGA degree mean so little outside the state? UGA is now getting the best students in the state due to the HOPE scholarship. The average freshman SAT scores are high and it’s hard to get into UGA. Just because football fans blog on the sports page (this is the Sports section after all) doesn’t mean that academics are any less important.

Terence, I am quite sure you never read these comments but here I go anyway.
If you think the “apology” was sincere, you are even dumber than I thought. I am amazed that you still have a job at this point.
As for the “long term repercussions”, we don’t care. Not even a little bit. Let them be p** off, the majority of the guys that physically whipped them for 60 minutes will still be here next year and the year after that. The Gators will have plenty of time to get their revenge. If they can.
Finally, there is no concern whatsoever about this team or any future teams acting up under Coach Richt. The only reason they did what they did is because HE TOLD THEM TO. That is the ultimate display of discipline, Terence. Their leader told them to do something against the rules and they did it with fervor. That is dedication. That is discipline. These guys aren’t going to do anything to disrespect Coach Richt.

If your explanation of being an uncouth coach is ordering a penalty, then every coach should be writing weekly letters.
The only thing CMR is guilty of is being a bit unclear. His method and means are perfectly acceptable. His execution was not. If you don’t think so, read the comments from various coaches on the matter who have BEEN in CMR’s situation. They understand and 97% of them approve. I back CMR and those coaches because they know what it’s like to need motivation. It was a great tactic in my opinion, could have been executed better, but the bottom line is IT WORKED AS IT WAS INTENDED TO and no one got hurt or caused any trouble - just like an intended delay of game penalty.
How do you know what GA would have done anyway?? They might have gotten beat if Tebow was 100%. We might not have had over 200yd rushing if Lumpkin/Brown played. All these mights. We might have still won if UF was 100% and we had all our linebackers. If we had five 300+lb OL’s, we would have have another 100yds rushing.
IT IS WHAT IT IS AND UGA WON! Forget all these “IF”s. If a frog had wings…..

Terrence,
GA just landed 4 of the 5 top HS football prospects in GA.
How much do you think Richt’s stunt had to do with that?
You’re a dunce and you have forgotten that this is a GAME.
Coaches don’t get fired for showing no class (ie. See Belicheat), they get fired for loosing.
There’s a reason why Richt is a participant in the game (coach) and you are an arm chair mouthpiece about the game (writer).
Get off of your self righteous, pious high horse and learn to live life. It’s short.
Richt made a brilliant, daring move on Sat. that won GA that game.

No, Erk, not because I said so. Because he sent his whole damn team on the field and totally disrespected Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators. That is why he has no class, genius.
And, if he’s not lying (which I think he is), and the other 60+ guys on the sideline ran onto the field when he did not tell them to, he has no control over his players. Complete lack of class and/or discipline. Take your pick.
Don’t think Saint Richt will be receiving any awards for sportsmanship this year.

Did you see the stunned look and half-hearted effort of the Gator coaches to respond - pathetic? He shouldn’t have to apologize to anyone. I don’t often agree with Mr. Moore’s columns but I read them because he writes well. But,my fellow Dawgs, hear this: If you want to get Mr. Moore fired, stop responding. No other AJC columnist gets the kind of response he does. Let’s get a grip, Dawgs. I love it!! UF fans compaining about class and injuries. Moreno is not the normal starter for this team T.Brown is. In 2005 our All-SEC QB didn’t play at all. It’s not that he couldn’t just run as much but still pass…he couln’t play. If any UF fan wants to talk about winninig/losing streak lets be relevant. CMR is 2-5 or this senior class is 2-2 or if you want to count redshirt years…2-3. And class…give me a break. A UF fan talking about class is a joke. Did you win with class last year when you played you defensive player against Carolina even though he had failed drug tests (you know the one that blocked the field goals…the only reason you won), did you play with class against lsu when you played the safety who had been arrested for a felony? What about the auburn timeout? And your fans are the absolute worst. I have friends who are season ticket holders for lsu and ut that go to every game (home and away), every year except one…you guessed it…uf. They say they are the most obnoxious foul mouthed, get in your face fans they have ever seen…before, during and after the game.
BTW…the only classless play I saw in the entire game was the hit on UGA’s quarterback a full five seconds after he took a knee. That is the play that could have really caused an all out riot

TM- Richt isn’t the first coach to tell his players to break the rules. I am pretty sure every coach has told there players to take a delay of game penalty before. Every coach in football has told there team to break the rules. Not just Richt so what is the difference?

To me classless is calling a timeout from the sideline by the coach a nano- second before the center hikes the ball and the kicker kicks it throught the uprights, which Urban meyer did recently. Of course we could say it’s within the rules, but do we really want to see a coach save all three timeouts and watch a last second field goal be kicked 3 times in a row or 4 times if all timeouts are left? Mark Richt’s idea wasn’t dirty or sneaky. it was a blatant, “we’re here to play today, deal with it!” and they got what they desrved on the ensuing kick-off. Don’t make it out to be some major deal. I loved that Richt proved he has some zeal under that cool exterior.
