Bulldogs could use a good excuse

Jeff Schultz

Before unveiling this week’s Stunning Money Back Guaranteed Willie Martinez-Crafted Georgia-Florida Upset And Booze-Free Experience — how many lies can you spot in that sentence? — we have a small business update for you:

A group of enterprising students in Oklahoma have started “The Excused Absence Network.” For $25 you can buy an official-looking note to get out of school or work or, I suppose, annual meetings and potential humiliating experiences with your conference rival.

These notes can be made to look like they came from a doctor or lawyer or jury summons, and I would assume are discounted if bought in bulk. Say, for a roster of 90.

“Millions of Americans work dead-end jobs, and sometimes they just need a day off,” co-founder John Liddell said. “People are going to lie anyway.”

Which leads me to this week’s Georgia-Florida game.

Florida has no chance.

OK. I’m lying. But I’ve got this really cool note that states: “I hereby crown Willie Martinez as the supreme being of all defensive coordinators, with an easy grace, impish grin and Patton-like forethought. Signed, The Wizard.”

Really, I’m sure Georgia has played defense at some point. But I’m only 48 years old and I just can’t remember back that far.

The Dogs can score on Florida. Won’t matter. Their defense can’t stop a ping-pong ball, let alone a team averaging more than 40 points per game. Tim Tebow has a passer rating of 177.5, which, in layman’s terms, means chicks dig him.

The line says Florida by 9. I’m assuming you’re used to this by now.

The Gators have won 15 of the past 17 meetings. Feel a cold coming on?

Florida. Again. But take the Dogs and 9.

Pros and Cons

Falcons: Bobby Petrino took advantage of the bye week to make another move, cutting general manager Rich McKay. Petrino declined to comment on the move beyond a brief statement, which was the same statement he released for the Grady Jackson release, which was: “This is a football decision.” On a related note, McKay attended a race for geldings at Santa Anita.

Lunch at Patriots: New England has won seven games by an average score of 40-17. Some wise guy noted this week that the last time Tom Brady faced Washington, he threw three interceptions and the Patriots lost. Yes, well, should this game also take place in an alternate universe, then I guess there’s something to worry about. Otherwise: Pats cover 16.

Texans at Chargers: An aside to Schaub-aholics: In the last five games, your boy has two touchdowns, four interceptions, seven fumbles and 10 sacks. So, at least the Falcons have that going for them. Displaced Bolts cover.

Colts at Panthers: Carolina coach John Fox won’t say whether David Carr or Vinny Testaverde is starting. Like it matters. Punt the 6 1/2, Colts cover.

Dolphins-Giants (Lon-don): Zach Thomas got a concussion in a car accident and will not play. Now, if the rest of the Dolphins can get hit on the head and wake up as somebody else, then they’ve got a shot. Otherwise, they’re toast. Oh-and-16 still alive! Giants cover 9 1/2.

Packers at Broncos: Brett Favre threw eight TD passes in the first four games, but one in two since. For the record, I really don’t care about him personally. But he’s killing my Fantasy League team. Broncos cover 3.

Semi-Pros

Mortal at Tennessee: Steve Spurrier lost to Vanderbilt. His offense didn’t score a touchdown for the first time in 19 games. He can’t even look at himself in the mirror. OK, that one I made up. South Carolina’s getting three in Knoxville. Won’t even need ‘em. Upset watch: Roosters over Vowels.

Old Ms. at Auburn: I realize Al Borges has this great rep as an offensive coordinator. But did you know that other than the New Mexico State game, Auburn has scored only one third-quarter touchdown, after coaches generally make halftime adjustments? Fortunately, when you’re playing against the worst defense in the conference, you don’t need to adjust. You just need to breathe. Tigers cover the 17.

Missy State at Kentucky: There have been 566 points scored in Kentucky’s eight games this season (nearly 71 per game). I’m not sure how that factors into bowl projections, but safe to say Rich Brooks’ days as a defensive coordinator are over. Onward: ‘Cats cover 13 1/2.

Duke at FSU: The Blue Devils are 0-4 in conference but figure this is the most winnable game on the schedule. Seriously: Flawed State is 1-3 (4-3) and the next four weeks read: Boston College, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Florida. Lose to Duke and Bobby Bowden might just want to forget that whole I’ll-outlast-JoePa thing. ‘Noles win but take Duke and 17.

Almost perfect

Last week: 7-3 straight up, 6-3-1 against the line.

Bottom line: 50-32 straight up, 37-40-5 against the line.

W.P. Bookclub: Buy three selections and win a copy of DeAngelo Hall’s autobiography, “Never An Unspoken Thought.”

If we want any chance, at least the coaches should give Joe Cox a shot, especially if Stafford is flat AGAIN after the 1st quarter. He’s just been a flop all season. Wake up folks, he’s not just going to become a great QB Saturday.

Losing to Florida will eventually doom CMR. He needs to step up and start winning a few. No excuses!!

Get it done or go back to Florida State. I no longer care about what he has done for the program. If we can’t beat Florida, we are nothing.

Dawgs2007…dude, get real. Losing to Florida will not doom Richt…ever. You are the typical, knee-jerk dawgvent guy that makes Georgia fans look like morons. You will be the same knee-jerk dawgvent guy that will be ready to give him a 100-year extension as soon as Georgia beats Tech for the seventh time in a row next month.

Let’s just go ahead and hand back the two SEC titles since Richt has been in town. I guess those count for nothing too. Dude, Richt is a darn good coach and a great leader for the university. I guess since Georgia didn’t beat Florida in ‘02 or ‘05, those titles were nothing too, right?

Before you are ready to unload Richt, let’s look at the major difference the last two years since the last SEC title - Willie Martinez. The talent on that side of the ball is way off what it was under Van Gorder as is the aggressiveness. My guess is that he is canned at the end of the year regardless of what happens Saturday. Richt is loyal, but he’s not stupid either. Neither is Damon Evans. Willie is toast unless the defense pulls out the same effort it did at the end of last season against Auburn, Tech, and VPI. Problem for this year is that the horses aren’t there like they were last year.

And, by the way, I have a strange feeling that Florida won’t crush Georgia like we are all afraid of. Georgia, for once, gets Florida on its own bye week, while Florida had to get beat up against Kentucky. Don’t be surprised if the Dogs don’t step up in this one and play ball control like they did against Alabama. Maybe wishful thinking, but I think Richt may save his job this week. :)

Thank you for your overwhelming optimism. Like, Dude.. how many times are you going to call me Dude? Like CMR is way kewl, Dude.

By the way, we backed into the championship game in 2005 after we could not stop Kenny Irons and laid an egg vs. FLA with Joe T.

As for 2002, we were undefeated while FLA was 5-3. No way we should lost that game.

I am glad you are satisfied with the coach, but I am not. We should be in better shape at this stage.

And we are supposed to beat Tech, so that will not be a big deal, DUDE!

Dawgs2007, For the record, I said, “dude” twice; so for that, I suppose that you’ve decided to go the prick route, and that’s fine. You are exactly what is wrong with some Georgia fans. Thanks for pointing yourself out in the crowd. As I said earlier, you are the consummate knee-jerk dawgvent guy who won’t ever be satisfied with anything. Chances are you are the same knee-jerk dawgvent guy that never darkened a door at the University of Georgia, and likely never even went to college…but, I digress.

If Richt leaves Georgia to go anywhere, it will be because he is sick of malcontent pricks like you.

And, again for the record, I said “prick” three times in this paragraph since you like counting repetitive words.

FYI, you can reply to this all you want to, knee-jerk dawgvent guy, but I have a life other than monitoring this blog and all the other irrelevant boards where people like you hang out and talk about how Richt is the Anti-Christ. Head back to the dawgvent and leave your miserable existence over there.

Okay, I’ve been quiet enough. Yes I am a true blue (and orange) Gator fan. I’m not going to guarantee a victory, but if your boy Stafford don’t pick it up, I will be saying I should have come Saturday night. Plus you guys better find something else to worry about than Tebow. We do have other weapons like Pervis for example. Our defense is young so your best bet is for Stafford to be on, if not it’s “Good night Jacksonville and thanks for coming!”

Better come with that “A” game Stafford or you and your boys are toast!

That 2002 game still hurts bad… that was supposed to be OUR year. Of course, the Dawgs stole one from Auburn later that year so things evened out some I suppose.

On the flip-side from my H.S. days…the 1985 Dawgs victory over UF was especially sweet (24-3). UF was #1 at the time and UGA flat-out dominated. I remember winning $5 (worth 5+ gal. of gas in 1985) on that game…that was after losing $5 when the Royals came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Cardinals in the 85 WS. It’s nice how things even out.

Dawg2007,

Who you going to hire? Friggin no brain idiots who want to fire coaches all the damn time. We did not back into crap in 2005. We lost two division games and the Gators lost 3. Figure it out “dude”. Then, we were heavy underdogs and ripped LSU to shreds, ending their BCS shot. Had we not lost DJ before the Gator game we “probably” would have won. Say what you want, but in 2005 the Dawgs were SEC Champs. I would have gladly taken “backing into the title” anytime between 83 and 02.

Rejoice O’ young man, in thy youth. Often wasted on the young. Get a grip Dawg2007 and any other naysayers. Are you saying we are undeserving of our championships of 02 and 05? We WON those SEC Championships!! Convincingly as I remember. And represented ourselves well in the Bowl season. Too young to remember Jim “Grumpiest Old Man” Donnan or Ray Dorf, er Goof? Who’s out there and available that you would bring in to replace Coach Richt who can gaurantee us the NC next year? Hmmm? Have him forward his resume to Damon Evans, UGA, Athens, Georgia. Now for those old f*rts not living in fantasy land here’s the plan. It’s very simple, now pay attention and listen. Georgia has to win the battle of the clock and play error free football. Run the ball on offense, stop the run on defense, win the turnover battle and control the clock. It’s really very simple. I’ll bet your PeeWee league coach taught you that. Now, if MY BELOVED DAWGS cannot do this and are vanquished by the despised reptiles from the Swamp, then the better team will have won and I can live with that. The sun will rise Sunday and the birds will sing and we’ll get ready for Troy. DAWGS 33 Slimey Reptiles 31. Go DAWGS!!!

Don’t even bopther with these jacka$$es who are part of the Richt cult. They are brainwashed. It doesn’t matter how bad he drives our beloved program into the dirt, these delusional IDIOTS will still support him (and his sorry coaching staff). If (or should I say when, and I hate to say it) we get the h3ll beat out of us this weekend, they’ll still support him. These a*******holes are the reason we still have Willie Martinez coaching our defense. Richt should have showed some leadership and fired his a$$ last year, but no, he has no balls, and becuase of his cult of supporters we now have one of the worst defenses in the SEC.

And BOB, in 2005, then we went on to LOSE to West Virgina to give them their 1st Jan 1 Bowl win since the 40s. But you sorta left that out.

The frigging issue my “friend” was “backing into the SEC Championship” you moron. Can you read???? I said we did not back into the SEC Title. Last time I checked WVU was in the Big East and it had nothing to do with whether or not we won the SEC title. I did not mention our loss to Wake Forest in 1979 either because it was not the issue of Dawg2007’s blog.

And just how do you figure Richt is “driving our beloved program into the dirt”? What planet were you on from 1989-2000? He has appeared in 3 of the last 5 SEC title games and you think he is dragging down a program which had not smelled an SEC title in 20 years? Donnan really did a good job leaving the cupboard stocked for CMR. Donnan was a victim of a one Quincy Carter. Had Donnan been given more time you would seen similar results.

Do you want proof? Just look at 2006 and 2007. All of Donnan’s players are gone and now CMR has his guys in. We are worse off now than before “GOD” showed up in 2001.

Dawg2007

Every coach that ever departed a school left recruits for his replacement to coach. How is it that Donnan wasn’t given enough time? Lets see, he had 5 years. In five years he won zero SEC East titles and obviously no SEC titles. That is a big zero. He had lost three straight to the Trade School. He beat Tech 2 straight with Goff’s recruits and lost the last 3 with his own recruits. He was 1-4 against UT. He was 1-4 against the Gators. He was 2-3 against Auburn. He was 3-2 against South Carolina. He went to two New Years Day Bowls.

Richt, with one more complete season to date is 6-0 against Tech. He is 4-3 against UT. He is 1-5 against Florida. He is 3-3 against Auburn. He is 5-2 against South Carolina. He has won 3 SEC East Division Titles and two SEC titles. He has particpated in 4 New Years Day Bowls, 2 of which were BCS Bowls.

I was not happy with the way Adams fired Donnan, but there is absolutely nothing to indicate that things would have changed. We were in a downward spiral in 2000 and had lost to the Trade School three consecutive years.

Ron Zook could recruit too. After all, Urban Meyer took his recruits to an SEC title and National Championship and the Zooker was only given 3 years. Do you think Gator fans want Zook back now?

You are the quintessential example of a brainwashed Richt cult fanatic. When Florida whips us this weekend, you’ll say, “We’re young…” Wait until Auburn and Kentucky get ahold of us this year. There is a real leadership problem coming from Richt and you will never see it, because he is to you what Vince Dolley was to Georgia fans of the 80s. He won a NC and we had to live with him forever. CMR won 2 SEC titles, and now we may have to live with hi forever, even if he never wins anything else. Maybe if we go 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, 8-4, the next four years you and your cult will actually shut the fvck up!

Richt is great fool.

You seem to be the one in a cult….pretty wierd too. There were 118 coaches in Division I football last year that did not win a National Championship. Who do you propose as our new coach? What does make you happy? Is it necessary to go 14-0 every year or fire the coach?

Well lets see now. Auburn has lost three games; Kentucky has lost two games; Florida has lost two games; Tennessee has lost 3 games. Georgia has lost two games. Well, maybe we can get the BC coach since he is still unbeaten. Then again, he might prefer to go to Notre Dame or Nebraska or Michigan or FSU or where ever.

And look who is calling someone a fantic? We played Ole Miss close for 3 quarters. Damn, you are right. Uh, Ole Miss played Florida close for 60 minutes….duh! Yeah we almost lost to Vandy…the same Vandy that whipped South Carolina in Columbia. Of course we beat Bama which just ripped UT a new one. In case you haven’t noticed, it has been one topsy turvy season and there have been lots of surprised out there.

I have not made one excuse for anything that has gone on this year. I have not praised or denegrated CMR. Check my blogs today and you will see that I have simply attacked the bogus premises that you and Dawg2007 have put forth. Facts are facts. And yeah, I think I will take Vince and Mark over Goff and Donnan any day of the week. With guys like you in charge, we would have a new head coach every week. Sheeesh.

Zeb McKluskey: Prime example of your average Redneck, blue jean wearing, goatie, cell phone clipped on the side, Oakly wearing, PBR Georgia Fan.

Unfortunately I have been preaching for years the UGA program is in decline and the last 2 years have proven just that. I have warned you, but no one listens, you just keep making excuses and whine.

I predicted before the season started the Dogs would lose to UT, USC, UF and AU, and to date I am 2 for 2, and I will be 3 for 3 after this weekend. If not for the Vandy fumble UGA was on the brink of losing 7 SEC games in a row.

Bottom line: CMR is the best you can do right now, but go ahead and fire him, then CMR will either go back to Miami or leave for AU when Tubberville gets the offer from Arkansas when Nutt is fired. Either way, CMR can take any team and beat UGA, matter of fact, anyone can do that.

Until you quit spending money on facilities, and quit focusing on how stellar your recruiting classes are, and focus on grooming your talent, your program will remain in a death spiral. But that is what we all like, to see UGA lose weak after weak.

All you Richt haters are right!!! We didn’t win those SEC Championships, the rest of SEC just felt sorry for us since we hadn’t won one since the early 1980s. All you Richt haters need to understand that you can’t win every year, look at Bowden or Paterno. Plus, who would you hire that would win us a NC? I mean we could wait another 5 years so he can get all his players in right and then you will complain about him, so all you Richt haters just need to stop calling yourself UGA Fans and maybe go help Tech fill their stadium, they need it. Quit Calling Mark Richt “CMR”—Initials are only warranted for coaches that have won a national championship or At Least played for one.

The little Choir Boy of Athens has done neither. A star at Boca Raton High School, a backup QB at Miami and somehow he evolves into an offensive MASTERMIND at FSU—Think maybe it had something to do with the talent Bowden was bringing in at the time??

He is without question a very nice person and great family man, BUT there is a reason the good people of Athens will never have to worry about the pro game to come calling, and I’ll let you figure out what that is. I will offer the hint that somehow all these collegiate offensive gurus when they are not able to pick and choose their talent from an adoring state where football is king——They somehow struggle when they have to COACH where the talent is equal and Oklahoma States, Mississippis, and Western Carolinas don’t exist to pad records. I was going to say there are also no Vanderbilts, but some coaches struggle with Vanderbilt(And Kentucky and South Carolina and Mississippi State).

And never forget that Coach Mark Richt—No Initials!!!—somehow managed to go 1-2 against Ron Zook who went 0-2 against Mississippi—Yuck!!!!!!!!!!

But you’re happy with him, so that’s fine. Of course I don’t know what that says about a school that used to play for national titles and now thinks it is beyond stupendous just to stumble into Atlanta once in awhile.

Yep, sure did read of Channing Crowder’s amazement that English people spoke ENGLISH. Just goes to show more evidence of the “dumbification of America.” As for the Annual Florida Beatdown, if the Bulldogs are to have any chance at all, they cannot squander early chances to score. No rediculous long passes that are thrown 20 yds. over the receivers head, and where the receiver is not within shouting distance of where the pass was going. I THINK the Bulldogs have a chance, but I question their mental toughness or sense of purpose. Those shortcomings fall upon the coaches, who have obviously not communicated the importance of the game give the conference configuration. Suppose we’ll see tomorrow afternoon. As for CMR, I DO think he will be forced to make some coaching changes at the end of the year. Especially if the Bulldogs only win possibly one more game. In all honesty, don’t think the Bulldogs will be favored against Auburn, KY, and GA. Tech is probably a toss up. They might sneak one in against Troy St., but I don’t think it’s a “lock.” What we have here is a grossly under performing team.

Dear God Dawgs, Do you really believe the University of Georgia is paying Richt—No Initials—all that money for his team to lose to South Carolina, get blown out by Tennessee and struggle to beat Vandy??? Do you really believe that?? Do you think Georgia would like him to be better than 1-5 against Florida with the only win being a nail biter against them with his best team and Florida’s worst team under Zook who was the LAMEST of ducks??

And stop with “his team was flat”—Who in the heck’s fault is it that team was flat??? Now I’m perfectly ready to NEVER blame Richt for a loss as long as he NEVER gets credit for wins. Sound fair to you?? Can’t be both ways that he is praised for wins and when they lose you hear “Well, he wasn’t on the field dropping passes”—Nope!! Doesn’t work that way.

Richt may be the Family Man of the Year in the SEC and desreving of a plaque, but until he utilizes some of the best high school talent in America to not go on 5 game losing streaks against teams in his own division——Well, no initials for Coach Mark Richt!!

Stafford is a huge talent but isn’t being used properly behind a poor, inexperienced offensive line. Combine that with ineffective play calling by a former mediocre (at best) college quarterback who now is the offensive play caller and you have a recipe for at a season where GA will be fortunate to win seven games. Richt needs to bring in a REAL offensive coordinator and dump Martinez who is presiding over a hapless defense.

Willysee, Thank you for making that point. Uf has had some pretty damn good offenses the past few years. As you mentioned if for the last 5 loses we scored 25 points they would have been W’s. And I can’t remember how many of UF’s points during that stretch might have come off of UGA turnovers either. I think Martinez does a decent job of getting the D ready for the long haul of a game. He does need the offense to score points and give his guys a rest during the game. Tough to stop somebody three and out then have to get back at it 4 plays later or less with the same intensity. It seems our problem is getting out of the gate and stopping these guys in the first and second qtrs.

Bob’s comments and analysis are dead on. However, I believe that fans have the right to disagree. It is obvious the defense has lost the swagger it had under Van Gorder. Auburn beat Florida because they get off their blocks and tackle well…both of which we do poorly. I would love to have Will Muschamp came “home” to Athens and coach the Dawg D but we all know that Richt will never fire any of his staff for poor performance (primarily because Richt think’s Willie is doing a good job).

Before you read this blog, ask yourself “have I seen the motion picture Animal House?” If not, please refrain from commenting about the ongoing joke. Or else it is double secret probation for you.

One thing’s for sure-if the Dawgs beat Florida it won’t be because of Slick Willie, it will be in spite of him. They have lost 15 of 17 because they have been out recruited and in some cases out coached. They have not been out played. They must do a better job recruiting against Florida or this embarrassment will continue.

Fire Richt is not only about wins and losses (but we play the weakest non conference schedule in the conference). It’s also about the kind of student/athlete we’re recruiting, the graduation rates, the arrest records and the on field behavoir. I’m finding it increasingly harder to root for a team that celebrates and challenges the other teams manhood after EVERY PLAY! Even when they’re down 28 to Tenn. It’s embarassing, I dont’ want to be the northern version of FL State or Miami. And by the way we shouldn’t have to worry about beating Vandy, Kentucy and South Carolina, we should be above those programs. FIRE RICHT, bring back some class.

Right on Champ Dawg! For now I think MR is a good but not great coach. If he does not make changes to his staff at the end of the year I will change my assesment. WM & Eason have been absolutely dreadful in most of the big games. I said big/meaningful games so do not quote me meaningless stats watered down by victories against 1AA schools and bend and eventually break defenses. For every good/great performance the D & receivers have had (Auburn ‘06, LSU ‘05) they have had many terrible performance (UT ‘06/’07, Vandy, UK, UF, Va.Tech, W.Va.). If MR holds his staff accountable for their aweful results over the SEVERAL YEARS and replaces them then great. If he let’s them continue to accept $200K salaries despite their aweful results then he is not a coach worthy of leading this program…by the way I hope he is but time will tell! If you want to be loyal/support someone support the players who are being robbed of good coaching that may help them get to the NFL one day!

Stafford is so overrated it is not even funny. He is not even close to Matt Ryan or Tebow. Quite recruiting quarterbacks from the Keebler Elf Factory and find a 6’6” cannon than can see over the line and throw the ball.

UGA is infamous for not being QB U and never will be until it you learn that Buck Belue got lucky for your 1 national title. Get away from short QB’s and find someone who can throw and see over the line.

Stafford is just another Quincy Carter which is nothing more than alot of noise and no substance.

Richt’s SEC East titles occurred when UF and UT’s programs were down (and w/ Donnan’s recruits). UF’s program is back on track (and ahead of schedule), so that window of opportunity is closed. UT is not back yet but UGA somehow lost badly to Phil this year any way.

Sorry but these are the facts. The longer Richt is coach of the Dawgs, the easier it will be for other East opponents to threaten UGA’s mid-tier East status (and it’s already happening: USC, KY and Vandy are now your competition, not automatic wins like Richt’s predecessors. They simply do not fear you).

Keep hope alive, though. Maybe Saturday UGA will manage to notch a 2nd win this decade against UF…if that makes you feel any better. But the overall trend for UGA’s program — solidly mid-tier — is unmistakable.

After Saturday, let us know when you’re ready to talk basketball….

Please name somebody that is AVAILABLE to do that. Also somebody that has a proven track to bring some talent to the school. Once again you UGA whiners crack me up!

After the TN game it was let’s fire the defensive coordinator.

Now if you once again lose to FL tomorrow you are ready to put Richt up on the cross.

Also, as a FSU season ticket holder, I’ll be the first to admit FSU as of the last several years has been mediocre at best so what makes you Richt haters think FSU would even want Richt who, if he loses tomorrow, would have two mediocre seasons in a row on his resume? I can assure you the fans, the big money boosters and the school itself has had enough mediocrity to last us a long time. The last thing FSU will be looking for in a coach to replace Bobby is a head coach who has been inconsistent as hell and appears to be on the decline (especially if he loses tomorrow).

Go Gators!

BTW UGA Fans: While your nemesis has been FL since before many of you were born don’t look now but Steve Spurrier is going to be yet another one until the day he leaves SC.

I don’t make excuses or think the sky is falling if we lose. What I was talking about is that Mark Richt has done a pretty good job. I just get tired of bandwagon fans that think we should win a nc every year or they scream about firing the coach. It takes a good team and luck to get to a national championship game. Just having a good team is not enough. Just ask auburn fans. I expect to win every game. Cheer for my team with everything I got win lose or draw. If someone suggests firing Mark Richt they have a right to their opinion. Just follow that up with who they should hire in place of him. That would be a good post. Fire Mark Richt and hire__. Then we can debate. Other than that there are only a handful of coaches with more wins than Mark Richt. I don’t think Carroll wants the job. Oh wait. You wouldn’t like Carroll he lost to Sanford(aka Vanderbilt only worse) Go dawgs!! Beat FL

Hmmm. Two teams, both w/ 5-2 records. One ranked 9 or 11th, the other 18 or 19th, depending on the poll. Wonder why? UGA: “Always a few years away.”

As for the job-saver reason for losing to Phil, that’s a good one. Likewise, we need Richt to stay put for a few more years so we can close out another decade way ahead in wins. If going 9-1 or 8-2 against UGA every ten years will help keep CMR in Athens longer, that works for us.

Anyone that mentions Jim Donnan and Quincey Carter in the same blog, excluding mine, should be beat around the head with a baseball bat. 2 UGA legends to say the least. Face it dreamers, Tebow and Harvin will have a field day against Coach Willie’s weak defense. Stopping them is like trying to nail jellow to a tree. It just ain’t gonna happen! My goodness, have you ever seen 2 more overrated players than Weston and Owens? Somehow UGA’s freshman just don’t play up to expectations like the Gator’s youngsters do. Good thing UGA has plenty of LBs, because Tebow will run through them like Max-Jean Gilles exploding through the buffet line at Golden Corral. I do like Stafford to Massaquoi, but with a knuckle head calling the plays (sorry Mike Bobo 17 Int) the Dawgs don’t have a chance. And this is a so called down year for UF’s defense. Urban ” I am better than you, just ask me” Meyer is simply a better coach with better football players. UF will roll, and UGA fans will b*** and moan (again) about how the off week hurt them, Thomas Brown was hurt, Herschel Walker left as a junior and the sob story goes on. Another thing is for certain, the drive home isn’t fun if you win, but it sucks even more when you get waxed by A BETTER TEAM! Oh yeah, and when you get home, Kentucky will be waiting to hang half a hundred…or more. War Damn Wildcats.

If it doesn’t work the timing will be perfect for him to come back to the SEC at South Carolina. Where formerly great coaches go to pad their retirement accounts and decrease their handicaps. Brothers (and sisters), Coach Mark Richt is a good man; however, he is an average coach (but a great recruiter). With the money and expectations of UGA fans, we should contend for the MNC every year…just look at our recruiting classes. But, we hover somewhere between semi-good and good. While CMR knows how to recruit great athletes, his coaches don’t have a clue how to coach them up. And, he doesn’t know how to change our offensive/defensive game plan to compensate. Just look at the culture at FSU to see his OTJ training. When (and if) he learns to quit running our “prevent offense” and “prevent defense’, maybe we’ll contend for a national title. How can we continue to have top 10 recruiting classes and finish 25th? If UGA was smart and not politically correct, they would go after West Va’s coach, and help CMR gently ease Bobby Bowden out………. How much football sense does it take to hire assistants from Central Michigan to coach in the SEC? And, guess who we play next seaon? Let’s hear from all the Mark Richt appologists..

Someone who calls himself “The Voice of Reason” claims that UGA should contend for a MNC every year. If you can you show me one single team that contends for a MNC every year I will quit laughing hysterically at what a complete and utter moron you are. Have at it. Just one.

You are right on the money, Jeff. No defense, no championships. We might score a couple or a field goal, but it won’t matter after Florida scores big in a very quick manner.

Petrino is doing what should have been done a long time ago. He’s thinning out the problems and moving forward. I look forward to the next few years and what the Falcons will be.

I think I treated Sarfdawg at Central State Hospital, but, then, there are a lot of Sarfdawgs pulling for Georgia. It seems that no one else’s opinion is worth anything but theirs. Seems like there are lots of them everywhere and they all write as he does, with delusions of being divinely correct. But not to worry Sarfdawg, your alter egos appear as Tennessee Sarfdawgs, Clemson Sarfdawgs, Notre Dame Sarfdawgs,… well, you get the picture. I suggest a little Thorazine and, if that doesn’t work, ECS. Still no help, a pre-frontal lobotomy is the way to go. By the way, Dawgs2007 opinion sounds pretty lucid to me. Have a nice day. Dr.X

Funny how Georgia won the SEC title only because UT and Florida were down. Guess Florida won its SEC title last year because Georgia was down and had the worst team in the Richt era. And that was the first time the Gators had even been to the game since 2000.

Some of you so called fans are really hysterical. All of you who want to fire the coach leave off who you want to replace him with. I guess everyone in the conference who does not win the title should be fired. We could do this every year and the conference could have 11 new coaches each year as we head into the SEC Skywriters Week in Birmingham.

Richt has appeared in 3 SEC title games in the last 5 years. No other coach is remotely close to that. UT hasn’t won a title since last century. South Carolina wouldn’t know what a Conference Championship Trophy looked like if it stared them in the face. Les Miles hasn’t done it yet. Richt has whipped Saban his last two times out and is 2-2 with the Tuscaloosa genius.

That does not mean that I think everything is wonderful. I, like a lot of fans, have some real concerns about defense. I have an even bigger concern with our recievers coach since it seems like our guys tend to regress after their first years and I have never seen a team that routinely dropped so many passes.

Like it or not, this IS a young team. We have a chance tomorrow. It will be an uphill fight, but based on what has happened this season a win over Florida would hardly be earth shattering.

Is MR a good coach? We will soon know. The Dawgs will likely finish 7-5 at best and it will be time to put up or pack up. MR must do what all great CEO’s do and replace the weak members of the organization. Thus, Martinez & Eason will be “seeking new opportunities”! They have been aweful for 3+ years and must be held accountable for cheating the players of sound coaching. As much as I like MR and support him the accountability will fall to him if he does not make the hard calls! Go Dawgs!!!!

Voice of Reason is a moron,

Now, now. You are attempting to provide logic to what is by and large and utterly illogical group of whiners. I guess USC is about the closest thing to an annual competitor for the national championship. Maybe OU too, but that is mainly driven by the ineptitude of their competition in the Big XII.

Nobody wants to win an NC more than I do, but it takes a great season and a ton of luck. Georgia was 13-1 in 02 and Auburn was 13-0 in 04 and neither made it to the game. They had the misfortune of having two other unbeaten teams meet. LSU in 03 and the Gators last year had much better luck. Had UCLA not upset USC last year, we would have watched the Trojans torch the Buckeyes too.

I am not thrilled with everything about this coaching staff and have zero problem with fans being critical. Nonetheless, they have been as successful as anyone and more than most since he arrived in 02. I spent 30 years defending people’s right to say what they want, even if it means putting up with some real strange thought processes.

99% of the “gators” on this blog are actually North Ave Bugs dressed up in UF Halloween Costumes. Don’t you little pimple faced insects have a bubble bath you need to take?

Dawgs will win this weekend if Stafford is on target and Willie is awake. Otherwise it might get real ugly.

You are right again my friends. I am a negative person. I want to see UGA beat FU just once before I die. I am terminally ill and want to see MF Martinez goes before me. Keep Richt, Bobo, and Gardenner. Get rid the rest of the staff, we need some new and young people with Richt.

The only thing I’ve learned from reading these asinine talkbacks is that most of you couldn’t find your assh*le if I handed you a lubricated funnel. I’ve never seen so much brain dead stupidity in my life.

Fact: UGA is NOT one of the 25 best/better teams in America.

Fact: UGA, throughout their history, has been more lucky than good. (just one, recent reminder - not from this season, UGA couldn’t beat Colorado last season until lady-luck dressed-up as a red-headed stepchild (a.k.a. Joe Cox), and…you see my point. Okay, one more; how about the S.Carolina win in Columbia a few years ago when lady-luck first dressed-up as Pollack, then later swooped-in and stripped the ball from ths SC back just before he was about to score the winning TD. UGA didn’t even score an offensive TD, yet won the game. Okay, I’m on a bit of a roll here: Clemson, Alambama, and Auburn the same season as the South Carolina sham. And UGA most famous of all ……. 1980 in Jacksonville.

Fact: Luck is a GREAT ally (i.e. “sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good” as the saying goes).

Fact: UGA ‘outlasted’ Alabama, wore-down Ole Miss, got EMBARRASSED by a mediocre UT, and probably should have lost to Vandy.

And Fact: Even Lady Luck won’t help UGA in Jacksonville on 10/27/07 ……. Barbara & I see a MAJOR BEAT-DOWN COMIN’ at the hands of the Gators.

Under Vince, Dawgs always won on the last drive if they needed it. It was money in the bank. Now, just the opposite happens. The Dawgs don’t believe.
