Tormentor enjoys the flashback

Jeff Schultz

Athens — Feeling nostalgic now, are we?

Steve Spurrier comes to town and suddenly a football team buckles at the knees. The offensive coordinator can’t call a play. The quarterback can’t spot or hit an open receiver, and when he does, somebody drops the ball.

The head coach feels bold enough in the third quarter to rubber-stamp a trick play on fourth down, but he talks himself out of going for a tying touchdown on fourth down from the opponent’s 15 - with less than five minutes remaining.

“This wasn’t a shock,” Spurrier said Saturday.

What would you expect him to say?

As a Gator, Spurrier was 11-1 against Georgia. As a Rooster, he was 0-2. Consider this a market correction. The Bulldogs lost 16-12.

One coach was beaming. The other should have felt humiliated.

Mark Richt hadn’t lost to South Carolina since 2001 (then coached by Lou Holtz). That also was the last time the Georgia offense failed to produce a touchdown (14-9 loss). It was in Richt’s first year in Athens and his first SEC game. More wonderful memories.

Spurrier would have you believe these teams are relative equals. Nothing coming in said that.

A week ago, South Carolina allowed 252 rushing yards to a school from Munchkinland, Louisiana-Lafayette. Its starting quarterback Saturday, Blake Mitchell, has spent a career being a knucklehead and was coming off a suspension. The Bulldogs merely were coming off a dismembering of Oklahoma State, during which quarterback Matthew Stafford played as advertised and as needed.

Because Stafford is young, you expect a slide back once in a while. You don’t expect a face plant. Last week: 18 of 24 passing, two touchdowns. This week: 19 of 44, no touchdowns, one interception, three sacks.

When somebody asked about drops, Stafford responded appropriately. “I missed guys,” he said. “They were open. Personally I could’ve played a whole lot better.”

Players could’ve played better. Coaches could’ve coached better. Spurrier basked in it all.

It was like a bad acid flashback.

Fans booed Georgia’s offense, and booed Spurrier as he was heading into the tunnel at halftime. He acknowledged them by waving.

He commented he was getting an ovation. Or was it boos? “I didn’t realize I was that important to them.”

In his first year in Columbia, Spurrier won games at Tennessee and at home against Florida. Those were big.

Last season, he came within a point of the Gators in Gainesville and upset Clemson. Also big.

But this was a victory in an SEC opener against the school he has tormented most. Bigger.

Everybody played a role, particularly Richt and play-caller Mike Bobo. The Bulldogs went 3-for-18 on third down. Two red-zone possessions netted two field goals.

Stafford was buried in the third quarter on a fourth-and-2 play, a delayed play-action in which he played out the fake too long and got smacked by a blitzing Gamecock.

Spurrier: “They tried that sleeper play. They tried that two years ago. It was funny. I think they might file that play.”

The man never misses an opening.

Late in the game, the Dogs trailed 16-9. They were driving. But after consecutive runs by Knowshon Moreno netted 21 yards, Bobo didn’t call his name again. Oops. Three straight incompletions left a fourth down on the South Carolina 16. But Richt elected to kick a field goal rather than go for the tying TD. Why?

“We thought we could stop them and get the ball back and we did,” Bobo said. “But we couldn’t execute in a two-minute situation.”

How does this happen?

Opportunities, they had. On the opening drive, Gamecocks cornerback Carlos Thomas twice kept Georgia drives going with personal fouls (one for a late hit, the other for yelling at an official who presumably called the late hit). When one player gives you 30 yards, you should come away with something. The Dogs came away with a missed 48-yard field goal.

Georgia was blessed with another extended possession late in the half when Carolina was flagged for roughing the punter. But that was followed by three straight incompletions. Boos rained down. Spurrier loved it.

Welcome to reruns.

We were like that character in “Fargo” who sits there in a funk as a masked bandit walks onto the porch, peers into the window for several seconds, then leisurely busts through with a crowbar. WHY DIDN’T WE REACT?! These guys were robbing the store for full three quarters before only Moreno felt compelled to have a spark. No sense of urgency. Flat. Pathetic.

I woke up this morning feeling fine, I woke with heaven on my mine. I woke up with joy in my soul, cause Steve Spurrier knocked UGAG out cold.

Who scored more points than anyone in the nation and had nine rushing TD’s? The Ramblin wreck is back.

We have a new name for Georgia’s Offensive Coordinator:

Mike DŌ DŌ.

I’ve watched perhaps thousands of high school, college and pro football games and the first half play calling was the most bizarre I’ve ever witnessed: Seven hundred screens, 300 quick outs (while the SC defenders were playing man to man - hello?) and numerous runs on second and long or very long to leave the team in third and long, or very long, all night. This, coupled with 3 dropped TD passes and 2-3 more over thrown TD passes, is why Georgia lost. This wasn’t a Steve Spurrier victory over Georgia, this was Georgia committing suicide through horrid offensive coaching, over thrown balls, and three dropped TD passes.

Sad, with just “normal” play calling and a few more connections Georgia wins this game by at least 2 touchdowns. That’s what makes this game so tough to swallow, the best talent was let down by its own coaching right in front of its own fans.

Georgia has offensive size, speed, talent. So why is the offense so predictable? Did Stafford throw downfield in the third quarter - the middle of the secondary was wide open all night and we’re throwing blown-up screens? We bust big back-to-back runs inside the SC20 late in the fourth quarter, then go Air-Nowhere. The offense has no imagination. I hate to say it, but Bobo’s play-calling looks like a speedier version of Johnny Griffith’s offense.

The only thing more embarassing would be if we were Michigan or Notre Dame….losing two in a row to lesser opponents. This is last season starting all over again.

I must be the only one, but last season and so far this season, I have never seen anything much from Stafford. He is a less than average QB. Someone please explain why he was annointed as our savior and a shoo-in to win the Heisman one day. He’s just not that good. Most every other QB in the SEC is better.

Being honest, the play calling was terrible and the overall coaching was terrible. CMR is a heck of a nice guy whom I have deep respect for as a fellow human being, but his character should have led him into the ministry instead of college football coaching. The fire and passion never seems to be in him. I know if I were a player, this would affect me. We need a coach who lives and breathes the expectation and demand for winning. This is what I think of when I think about chicken-loving Spurrier. We seem to always get the “ho-hum..it’s OK if we are losing” attitude. I do believe we’ll always think we are better than we are but will always be a middle-level conference producer with the coaching we have. Like others, I wonder why we are always hyped as getting great talent in recruiting and then can never do anything with it. It’s never visible except for a few good runs now and then. We never have a good line and good running backs at the same time.

Oh well….as Yogi said, “Deja Vu all over again”. We need to get used to this. As Larry Munson said, this is going to be a low expectation season!

Our coach is by far the best coach in the SEC. He was just unlucky. And that Moreno is a cute little bugger. My GT friend said he’s a jerk the way he prances and preens after every carry. I don’t think he was trying to do that. I think the USC players must have put some jockitch in his pants when they tackled him. And what about our quarterback, does he have the “IT” factor or what? My GT friend said the only IT he has is with the SH in front. I don’t understand what he meant by that. Could someone to me what he meant?

I’m as disappointed as any UGA GRAD that we lost last night, but a little perspective might help. Stafford is only a sophomore and Bobo is only calling his 4th game as OC. This is a very young team and we knew that going in. In the SEC, any team can beat any other team on any given Saturday. We all know that. Sure, it stings a little more because it’s Spurrier. But I’d be willing to bet this team will be better in the next few weeks than it is now. UGA could still end up going 6-2 or 5-3 in conference play and that isn’t bad considering how young we are.

And for those of you who want to bash CMR, UGA has the best record in the SEC since 2002, including 2 conference championships. This young team will grow, beat Tennessee and Florida (and Tech, as always), and then everyone will be back on the bandwagon.

Everyone just calm down. It’s better to lose early than late. The only reason we lost last night was because a sophomore QB missed a bunch of open receivers. He admitted it, and he will correct it. Don’t be surprised if there are 3 or 4 teams in the East sitting at 6-2 or 5-3 when the season is done. We have as good a shot as any of getting to Atlana.

Go Dawgs.

I am a UGA graduate. The behavior of Georgia fans is a great embarrassment. Probably the worst display of poor sportsmanship I have ever seen was back in the 80’s when UGA fans threw ice and trash at their own players as they left the field. The behavior last night was nearly as bad, and Spurrier seemed to feed off of it. I believe that UGA has as talented a team as Florida, but under Richt, the players are undisciplined, arrogant, and poorly coached.

CMR is a great coach… but he’s not ever going to bring this University a championship. Because of his religious beliefs he’ll never make tough decisions because of his fear of hurting feelings (such as firing CWM, CJE and CMB).

UGA will always reign in at 2d or 3d position in the SEC with Richt. They’ll always have 3-4 losses. For a lot of programs, that’s sufficient. Ga Yech would be highly satisfied with such a 2d rate program. But for UGA this is unacceptable. We are the premier program in the state of GA — not some middle of the road dump like on North Ave. who actually gets off on beating down a HS level school like Samford.

The best thing that could happen to us is for Richt to go to FSU next season to replace Bowden. But God help us if they promote Bobo to the HC job.

FIRE MARK RICHT!!! FIRE MARK RICHT!!!! FIRE MARK RICHT!!!!!

RICHT IS GERMAN FOR MEDIOCRE

RICHT IS MEDIOCRITY PERSONIFIED

Bobo, RIcht, and Willie matching intelligence and competitiveness with Spurrier is like bring a knife to a gunfight.

Richt is a cute little pretty boy coach. We will never win a national championship with Coach Mediocre Richt.

Time to let the pretty boy go. Or at least it is time for Richt to stop the phony baloney bible beating I am a choir boy crap and start gittin’ some fire and desire in him. He sits there all game looking all pretty as can be, never sweating. He looks as cool as the other side of the pillow. The Evil Genius on the other hand is running around like a sweaty maniac, screaming at players, refs, taunting fans and coaching the hell out of the game. Spurrier used to not do that as much. But now that he has inferior talent, you are seeing the competitive side of that b******* come out even more.

YOu have no right to be upset about the loss if you continue to believe in Richt. Continuing to believe in Richt is to accept these kinds of losses. It is to be expected with Coach Mediocre Richt at the helm. UGA fans are settling with Richt. They should expect more. Richt sucks!

Right now, Richt is the 8th best coach in the SEC.

  1. Spurrier - national championship

  2. Saban - national championship

  3. Myer - national championship

  4. Tuberville - undefeated season; should have had share of national championship

  5. Fulmer - national championship

  6. Les Miles - running a machine down at LSU

  7. Houston Nutt - does more with less while Richt does less with more

  8. Mark Richt - mediocrity personified. Has been doing the b.s. holy roller act for so long that even he buys into it. He thinks it is an excuse that explains away any and all failure because you all will say he looks so darn pretty and he is so holy, who cares if we don’t win.

IF you blame WIllie and Bobo, you need to blame Richt. He hired them and he has kept Willie in his employ despite WIllie being absolutely terrible for the last few years. Richt needs to go ahead and hire Van Gorder back already. As for Bobo, didn’t we hire Richt because he was supposed to be an offensive genius. But then he passes those responsibilities on to Bobo. So what then was the point of hiring Richt? If he passes off responsibility for the one thing that got him the job, then what is the point of Richt? Really? Not that his UGA offenses ever showed any innovation or ingenuity or anything.

If Richt is such a great recruiter, then why does he have no offensive line? Why is his defense so much weaker than the one Donnan handed him? Why is his wide receiver corps so much worse than the one Donnan handed him? WHy are his tight end corps so much weaker than the one Donnan handed him? WHy does he not have one powerful tailback that can push a pile?

Moreno is a cute little jitterbug runner but why was he in the game when the Dawgs were in the red zone? Like Warrick Dunn, Vick, and Norwood, Moreno will be great for big exciting runs and for getting you from the 20 to the other 20 but once inside the 20, he tiny little frame will be useless. But stupid Richt and Bobo had him in there inside the red zone. Lump, if/when healthy, should be the guy for those situations. But Bobo and Richt are too stupid to realize that. With Lump out, Thomas Brown should be the tailback in the game for all short yardage and red zone and goal line offensive sets. He is not a powerful back as UGA tried to ridiculously see last week. That was so insulting for them to say Brown is a power back. He is a tough back but he is a tiny little back. But as compared to Moreno, Brown needs to be the one in the game in short yardage, red zone, and goal line.

As disapointed as I was and am, I still made sure to grit my teeth, and offer an honest “good game, we’ll see you next year in Columbia” to every Gamecock I saw as I left Sanford Stadium last night.

And I wasn’t the only Dawg fan to do so.

Here’s hoping we recieve the same respect from the denziens on Columbia when we return. Somehow, I doubt it, but let’s hope so.

It’s one loss. It happens. Let’s not fire anyone, or bench anyone yet. I mean, it would be nice if our defense could have made one more timely stop when everyone in the stadium knew they were going to run the ball, but you watch this film once if your the Dawgs, and then chuck it into the trash and light it on fire.

It’s over. You can’t replay losses, just like you can’t replay wins. I wonder if too many of the young Dawgs were thinking too fondly of last week’s win all week. Regardless, we lost, and in losing we must be gracious.

So once again: Good game, Cocks, and we’ll see you in Columbia.

What did you Bulldog fans expect…South Carolina to just lay down and let you win? I think you guys got an overinflated opinion of yourselves after beating up on an average Big 12 team (who cares what kind of numbers they put up LAST year, as always this is a new year and a lot can happen in a year). Whenever you have a head coach as the O-coordinator calling the ball plays from the sideline, showing emotion and passion for accepting nothing less than winning it feeds to the players. Plus the fact of returning 10 of 11 starters on D and 8 of 11 starters on O helps too. SC is a veteran team as you can tell by the way the O played, no turnovers, no false starts penalties, allowed maybe one sack, and maybe one dropped ball. Spurrier has a way of keeping an opposing defense off balance with his up the middle draw plays and down the field passing game and he lets his D coordinator do whatever he wants on defense…just get the ball back to the offense so Spurrier can call his beloved ball plays. Sometimes I think he still thinks he is out there under center playing.

CMR has UGA at the level they belong-good SEC program, can occasionally challenge for SEC title, but behind UF, LSU, and UT in national conscience. Also, get over the Stafford/Tebow comparisons, at least for now. Good QB could have pulled out the game last night. Spurrier took less talent and controlled the game.

If the doggy dogs would have done that, maybe they would have put more effort into the game. Though it wasn’t a blowout game, in the end THE DOGGY DOGS LOST!!!!!! You mean to tell me the big bad doggy dogs couldn’t put up 17 points to outdo BLAKE MITCHELL and his Gamecocks? More than likely, your team was arrogant as always and didn’t think that they’d have to put much of an effort against South Carolina. It’s mighty funny how a team can be so arrogant but have nothing to show for it but have a couple of SEC Championships under their collar. Folks can marvel at Spurrier all they want, but this is the third straight year that the “Evil (offensive) Genius” has been stifled by the Georgia defense. 33 points in 3 years is nothing to be proud about. The defensive coordinator is the one who, for the third straight year, stifled the Georgia offense. Spurrier’s results with SC against Georgia as an offensive coach and as a play-caller have been pathetic, and don’t think he isn’t aware of that.

Come on guys. Chill out. Did any of us realistically think the Dawgs were going to win the national championship this year? We are young, very young, especially on the 0-line, and when you are young you are going to make mistakes, and you are going to be inconsistent. The o-line will improve. Most of those guys have only known each other since spring practice. Richt and company will make adjustments. I think we may see other unexpected bumps in the road this season but we may also see magical glimpses of 2008 and 2009. Hats off to the Ol’ Ball Coach. He drew up some good ball plays and they did a better job of executing them. Get ‘em next time though. Darth Visor is learning to coach with inferior talent and getting more patient, the ol’ bastid. It could be worse, we could be Auburn this morning. At least we lost to a descent team.

I’m a huge Georgia Tech fan, but most of my friends root for UGA, and I know that they won’t overreact like many of the “fans” on here. How does Richt go from a great coach to a terrible coach after one loss? That’s like saying a pitcher with 298 wins is good, but a pitcher with 300 wins is a HOFer. Do those two wins make him any better? Not really. Do I think Coach Richt does what he should with his talent? Probably not. But my goodness, losing this game is not the end of the world. Stafford is still a true Sophomore, and your O-Line is still inexperienced. Take a deep breath and relax.

It amazes me that Georgia fans blame their team. Come on you got out played bottom line. There are always missed plays in a game…USC missed a few too. Bottom line is the SC defense of NIX beat the UGA offense and the USC offense did enough to get a good kicker in range to hit field goals in tight game. Sure UGA dropped balls but if you see the big drops around the end zone the reciever was getting smacked by a defensive back or Stafford was trowing on the run. Credit the USC defense, they applied the pressure, made the big hits, and won the game BOTTOM line.

Georgia may not win another conference game this year with playcalling like that. I’m not sure how USC stopped them so effectively - I was completely confused by the playcalling - but not in a good way.

Pity to waste such talent in a bad system.

“Saint” Mark Richt gets exposed … again.

Just like his mentor, Booby Bowden, “Saint” Mark can’t win unless he has VASTLY superior talent.

Oh, well, Bulldog Nation, look on the bright side:

At least “Saint” Mark isn’t as senile as good ole Booby.

This is what get’s me about some of the Dawg fans on here. I’m a Dawg fan as well, but give credit where credit is due. I did not think we would lose this one, but SC flat out played us and coached us. Tip your hat and move on.

The same idiots that were praising CMR and Bobo are now chanting they are terrible. If you guys think were going to win every game this year I have swamp land to sell you in the Mojave desert. We have a good team, but it’s a young team. We win get our our 9 to 10 wins this year. Support your team through good and bad. It could be worse, we could be MI or ND.

SC good game. This Dawg tips his hat to you and good luck with the rest of the season.

Georgia is classless-booing their own players. Georgia has lost to Vandy and Kentucy the past year. Spurrier said it best when he said “we didn’t beat anybody.”

Cheer up, dawgs, you do have a lot to be happy about.

First, no players have been arrested since the season started. This is a huge improvement over your one-arrest-per-week off season.

Second, with the new vacancy in your Pharmacy Department, maybe you can get Jim Harrick Jr. back on the coaching staff.

Thanks for letting us visit Athens again, Blue Dog nation. We appreciate all the comments like “beat ourselves”, “lost to mediocre talent”, “bad coaching”, etc. Facts are facts, though, USC 16, UGA 12. Slice it, dice it, jam it where the sun don’t shine; it is what it is.

We lost to a better team. Bobo’s play calling was terrible, but credit to Tyrone Nix. Also, Superior’s offense was, well, superior. Richt IS mediocre. He’ll keep us at the top of the SEC when other SEC teams are down, but championships won’t be coming our way. No way. Don’t give me this “we’re young” crap. Other teams have recruiting classes that aren’t as good as our and are just as young and they go out and perform better than us. We’re kidding ourselves when we think that we are a top program.

Coach Richt is arrogant and that arrogance transfers to our players. He’s all calm, cool, collected, and smug when we’re winning. Then when we’re down, he starts yelling and acting like nothing is going our way and the Refs are at fault. Get a clue CMR, its your fault! Why can’t we go out and play with energy in the first quarter? Why weren’t we prepared for this game at all?

I hate losing to Spurrier. UGH!

A little word for Nascarfan…You are either in the lead pack…the middle pack…or the back of the pack…as they say in Nascar School. UGA was in the middle pack..2006 and will finish there again in 2007..I said last week..we should beat OSU by 3 touchdowns…the real test will be how we do against USC…well we failed! In your world of Nascar the top 12 teams get in the chase…well my team and yours, the UGA, want make the chase this year…like they didn’t last year…partner we ain’t got enough “horsepower” nor due we have the “car” set-up right to compete for the championship…it’s the facts! We are the Dale Jr. team of the SEC…big fan base…big money..big hype…yet we run in the middle!Bob

Games between UGA and South Carolina are pretty much always close. Yes, UGA wins a good bit of the time but every now and then South Carolina wins one, right? So my question is how can this be attributed to Spurrier?? Yes, he instituted an offense at Florida and brought them to national prominence but they’re at a high level now and UGA has more or less remained their punching bag. I know that prior to then Fla was UGA’s punching bag but seriously, why is this guy being overhyped/glorified? And he’s basking in it, too! You all look like fools. I’ll be a believer when South Carolina is winning year in and year out (10-11 games), while consistently beating UGA by 21+ or hanging 40-50 on them. Until then, save it because this will only happen every 4-5 years. By the way, I dislike UGA and somewhat like Spurrier…but he is glorified beyond belief.

Wow, I can’t believe the team and Richt bashing one week after being anointed NC contenders. SOS was the better coach and SC the better team but only 1 game was lost last night. No one is going 8-0 in the SEC east this year so quit you’re crying and move on. If your team has the same attitude as some your fans in may well be a long year in the Pound.

SIMPLY THE WORST COACHING JOB OF THE MARK RICHT ERA. MATCHING MIKE BOB AGAINST A SPURRIER-COACHED TEAM IN A CLOSE GAME IS COMPARABLE TO MATCHING NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS STAFF TO A PEEWEE LEAGUE COACH. BOBO, YOU BLEW IT, ESPECIALLY TRYING “CUTSIE” TRICK PLAYS AGAINST A DEFENSE WHICH RETURNED 10 STARTERS. TOO SENIOR TO FALL FOR THAT CRAP. TWO WEEKS TO FIND OUT IF THIS TEAM GETS BLOWN OUT AT BAMA (AND ELIMINATION FROM SEC RACE) AND PUSHES “HOT SEAT” TALK FOR COACH RICHT IN 2008. WIN AND ALL WILL BE FORGOTTEN.

I agree with Larry—too many screens and quick outs. That offense was sucessful against Okie St. but you know the cocks had scouts at that game and were prepared for it. Poor, poor coaching on our part. We should have been throwing downfill more—particularily when the cocks were in man defense. Also, I’m not sure that Stafford is the best quarterback for us. The only good impression I’ve had was his performance in the last 2 regular season games last year and the bowl game. He had a fairly good game against Okie St. but one things for sure, at the present he is no where near the quarterback David Greene was in his 1st year of quarterbacking the dawgs. If something doesn’t change and soon I think we will lose at least 5 if not more games this year. Our talent level is much better than carolina’s but fellas we were outcoached. Jim

Leroy If you “just find more important things in life for me to do” then why are you on this blog? I admit it—that Stevie is good for the SEC—As a matter of fact I believe he is probably the best offensive college coach in America. But I can’t stand his mouth when he puts down other teams and coaches. Good coach, but one big time ash*e. You are either a nerd or a gaytor or perhaps even a gaynerd. Get off our blog.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to the GA fans who showed class with the GAMECOCKS defeat over the Dawgs! I have been to Athens many times over the years and unfortunately the lack of class & hospitality by many of the UGA fans has been overwhelming…from women barking in people’s faces to many other unnecessary (& unprompted) comments by the UGA fans to opposing team fans. Perhaps these ‘GA fans’ are not even true UGA graduates… unfortunately we all have a few classless fans out there, but these classless experiences with UGA fans has been consistent for many fans from many different teams.

Why can’t we just admit that our Dawgs were beaten by South Carolina. We can say GA was the better team all along, but I, as well as you, woke up this morning and the score was still 16-12.

Steve Spurrier did say that we were not a great team.. is he wrong? We have some work to do…CMR even said that himself. Once a Dawg, always a Dawg! Still 10 games in this season… No matter what happens, we’ll all be cheering for the Dawgs each week.

I have spent the day reading columnist articles and blogs about the GA-USC game lst evening. At the end of the day I was amazed to learn a fact that had somehow eluded the sportswriters and fans all week. It took Coach Steve Superior to point out that GA now has a five (yes FIVE) game losing streak going against SEC Eastern Division opponents. Reality must eventually set in that there is trouble in Athens. Stay tuned.

One more comment…Richt has proven us wrong time and again, so I still believe we have some exciting wins yet to come in 2007. Also, I cannot see losing to UT who I believe is going to experience this season what we experienced last season…only worse (a 7-5 record). They have absolutely NO defensive line.

From another Gator fan:

I am shocked at the comments here by Georgia fans. One problem with Georgia is that they were grossly overrated. This is not a prejudiced Gator evaluation because truthfully so are the Gators. Lets be real. Georgia has a real problem on the offensive line. You know that any time a team recruits so many junior college transfers. Plus a lot of the great athletes they recruited prior to this years freshman class never qualified. Georgia has a good team,; not a great team and they will get better with experience and another good recruiting year with qualifiers. As for Coach Richt. He is an excellent coach. I hope you Ga fans that don’t like him get your wish because I think that anyone else you get will not be as good and we can beat you again and again. Richt impressed me from the beginning because he keeps his cool. That’s why he wins so many close games. Do you want your players afraid to make mistakes and play tight? Georgia fans need to get used to the reality that most of us SEC fans need to realize. The conference has the best overall group of coaches I ever remember (50 years) and these guys are going to beat up each other. Kentucky and S.C. are really good this year. Don’t be surprised at what they do.

Spurrier’s Carolina teams have Scored 33 points on our D in the LAST THREE YEARS ! And lost two of those ! The Great offensive satan ! 33 crappy points. We should win all games when we hold a team to 16 points. I’m tickled to death to think they have arrived by beating US ! What an honor ! 16 points against a Defense that lost 8 starters ! WOW ! Spurrier was still holding his little pecker, er rooster right up to the last play.

DEAR JB — There’s always NEXT YEAR! Or the year after that, heck, we’ll give you the year after that to build up your ‘Defense’. Get over yourself and your excuses…we all have starters to replace!

Sorry you lost 8 starters on defense…I guess your seasoned teams in the past were why we didn’t perform up to par in previous years?? You don’t hear us complaining about the loss of key starters such as Sidney Rice…or the fact that passes were dropped by unseasoned WRs…some how we managed to still win. The ironic thing is that the last time I checked the depth charts for each of our teams it appeared that our starters on Offense & Defense were virtually the same in terms of the number of Fr - So - Jr & Srs.

Believe me after a win this weekend, the Gamecocks have not arrived, not yet. This is just the beginning of many more things to come. We are building a program for the future and despite not performing particularly well offensively we still won. It may not have been pretty considering our attempts to blow the game. However, knowing our historical woes of not being able to tough it out for 4 full quarters, yes we’re happy. Happier than you Dawgs!

You just enjoy reflecting upon your glory days of the past, while we focus on building a bright future!

GO COCKS!
