Tomlinson could’ve been ours

Jeff Schultz

THE TUESDAY COUNTDOWN

10: The Tuesday Countdown would like to thank Roger Goodell for allowing us to report to training camp, even if blogging is considered detrimental to journalism.

9: Kimberly Bell, Barry Bonds’ former mistress, is posing for Playboy. I’m guessing nobody is going to make a fuss if she’s artificially enhanced.

8: Soooo … maybe now’s not a good time to re-evaluate that whole Vick-for-LaDainian Tomlinson-Drew Brees-Tim Dwight trade.

7: Let’s get to what’s really important. Joey Harrington may be the first quarterback in history to go from backup to starter but not climb in Fantasy League rankings.

6: So I mentioned the other day (in a real column) that the Falcons probably wouldn’t be any good this season even with Vick, given the team’s other issues. Not that this qualifies as absolute proof, but consider these odds on Bodog.com. To wager on the Falcons MISSING the playoffs, you have to give 2-9 odds (bet $9 to win $2) if Vick is on the team and 1-7 (only slightly worse) if he’s not on the team. If, you feel daring, it’s 20-1 that he’ll never play another NFL game.

5: His legal issues notwithstanding, Vick figures to still have an opportunity to resuscitate his career. But he could go down as one of the most pathetic figures in the history of professional sports, given how he drop-kicked his package of talent, magnetism and power.

4: Just guessing: Goodell will try to stretch his “just stay away” from training camp edict to Vick for as long as possible, at least until such time as the union protests - and when is the last time the NFLPA protested anything?

3: Wouldn’t it just be easier if they just put a model’s runway on the soccer field and let David and Victoria Beckham walk back and forth for a couple of hours? I mean, what’s the point of an MLS game?

2: If Tim Donaghy officiated any Hawks games last season, I’m assuming he didn’t take the underdog and the points.

1: Despite Vick’s absence in Flowery Branch, PETA announced it will continue to protest, at least until such time as the league bans the use of the word “pigskin” and Grady Jackson becomes a vegetarian.

Jeff,

Drew Brees had nothing to do with the trade. He would have been available no matter what. 20-1 on Vick never playing again? That’s worth dropping a benjamin on, because you have to figure, no matter what, he’s going to jail for some kind of time.

And you’re right… why would anyone want to see a MSL game. Now, a MLS game might be diffrent.

I believe that Goodell is the first person on earth to tell Vick that he can’t do something. I am sure that “Superman” finds this puzzling, and he may even think the whole thing is a joke. This issue presents the Falcons a great opportunity to step up and make a 91 Braves-like run.

I cant wait to see Shaub light it up out there. What a waste on the so called franchise of Michael Vick. Lets face it people even with him the Falcons would have always been a sub-par 9-7 sneak into the first round playoffs kind of team. At least now there is a new direction in Atlanta…class

I know it’s been stated before in this blog… and countless of other places. But for some reason, fans and “journalists” alike cannot get it right. Drew Brees was not involved in the Vick/LT draft pick swap.

That whole Vick vs. LaDainian Tomlinson debate is garbage. The Falcons were never considering drafting him. They had Jamal Anderson under contract. Everyone had to Falcons looking at Bengals DE Justin Smith with that pick before they traded up.

Leave it to Jeff Schultz to base a piece on fiction. First off the Reeves has said he would’ve taken Kenyatta Walker at #5 had we not traded up. Second, the Brees draft pick wasn’t even part of the trade. Good thing AJC writers aren’t required to be accurate… bunch of clowns that can type.

Jeff, I used to like you but I am slowly I’mbeginning to see you have no idea what you’re talking about. We had an all-pro running back and didn’t need LT.
I’m born and raised in the ATL and I’ve suffered thru season after season of ridiculous football until 2001. Say what you want to about Vick but AT LEAST WE WENT INTO EVERY SEASON WITH HIM ON THE FIELD AND HAD A CHANCE OF SUCCESS! More than Bartkowski, Chris Chandler and Miller or anybody else behind center! I hate what he’s accused of but I’m a FALCONS FAN and my season just got a little worse!

And another thing: People need to get over the fact that Matt Schaub got traded. The trade happened before any of this dogfighting news really surfaced. Plus, the trade HAD to be made. Schaub was going to be an unrestricted FA next season, and the team would have gotten nothing in return for him. By trading him, we got to move up 2 spots in the first round and address our need at defensive end, and we got an extra pick in the second round to fortify the secondary. Plus, we got an extra pick in the second round of the 2008 draft. Those picks will help the team in the long run, so stop b*hing and moaning about the trade being a bonehead move.

All you need to know about MV7 is his neck tattoo.

A neck tattoo lets everyone around you know that you are officially admitting the you are a f—-ing moron and a tool.

You(neck tattooers) think that the world is looking at some cool Japanese symbol or the name of a loved one, but all the rest of us non neck tattooers read is that “I AM AN IDIOT AND ON TOP OF THAT I TATTOOED MY NECK”

When you are 60 you will be explaining to your grandkids(great grandkids in some cases) about what a brainless nitwit you were as a child.

Yep,

I’d wondered how long it would take schultzi to slither out of the woodwork with this one. Listen, Tomlinson was not the answer for Atlanta. Atlanta has led the league in rushing for three straight years. Does it sound like we needed a running back. Listen, say what you want about Vick, but wasn’t a drug dealer and he neither killed anyone nor watched them die, and there are players, active in the NFL that have done both. Aside from that, you put Vick’s win/loss percentage angainst any other quarterback in Falcon history and if he’s not sitting at the top, he should be in darn good stead. What he did, if it can be proved in a court of law that he did (which hasn’t happened yet, and might not), was terrible, but there are so many players and celebrities that have done and do much worse. But, now, Vick is out of the game and the Falcons can go back to what they were before he got here. Obviously many of you have forgotten. You’ll be reminded soon enough.

20-1 that Micheal Vick will never play another NFL down is great odds . As was mentioned, he probably will do a little jail time but more than that would the commissioner be able to reinstate him . Micheal Vick will get suspended indefinitely by the league . If he did every animal rights group would be marching & picketing in front of NFL headquarters routinely . Plus , who would sign Vick ? That team would get a slew of backlash & negative publicity as well .

OK, dingbats. Anyone who gets on here and rips Schultz for some soccer reference is clueless. Dude’s funny as hay-ull. It’s interesting how people jump all over the guy for a typo when most of the schlubs here can’t spell “NFL.” … It’s the COUNTDOWN, people, laugh a little. … Yeah, and thanks for the Tomlinson reminder. That little nugget really gets at the heart of this whole Michael Vick saga — that of a half-decade-old investment failing to mature. Only an astute Falcons observer recognizes the stakes. I’ve seen every Atlanta game for the past 25 years (home and away), not so much as a rah-rah fan but as a civic duty, an ache to see Atlanta well represented on the big-time sports stage. We all thought we had a Michael Jordan-in-the-making when the Falcons took the quarterback out of Virginia Tech first in the draft. Folks assumed the Falcons were well on the way to winning Super Bowls. Plural. Well, they got close a couple of years, making playoff runs. Now just imagine if they’d won. According to Vick’s indictment, he is said to have been doing this dog-fighting stuff throughout his career. Say Vick had led the Falcons to two Super Bowl wins already. He’d be a mega-star even more than he was. And here today, on the brink of another season, he’d be in the exact same spot, soiling, at very least, his team’s image, tarnishing everything he’d accomplished and leaving his team’s devoted fans scratching their heads.

Come on Jeff, hind sight is always 20-20. When the trade went down, I dont know anyone who didnt want us to make the trade. If we want to second guess, then why didnt we take Chad Johnson in the second round? Or why not Steve Smith in the fourth round? You can do this for every draft. I would guess that the Giants are kicking thereselves for trading the farm for Eli when they could have easily had Rivers or Rothlesburger.

This is not a time where we need to second the decision to draft Vick. We need to stick together as Falcons fans, and support our team. I hope that Vick did not do the things that he is charged with, but it looks like he did and if so, he needs to pay the price. Lets move forward and learn from this.

What exactly has DJ Shockley done to make this organization so angry at him? Even Buck Belue thinks he’s the best man for the job on the current roster; Harrington and Redman aren’t even decent backups. I’m pretty sure Petrino can use Shockley in a similar way he would have Vick, and while he isn’t as experienced or quite as fast, he’s been described as a better leader and he’s a more accurate passer. He also won’t kill the cap. Hello?

This may well be vick’s last season in Atlanta. It is very upsetting when our best player is also the most immature. I’m tried of vick and he should go. With that said, I believe the Falcons could sneak into the playoff with Joey at the helm. With Bobby Petrino operating the offense, Harrington’s skills and talents should blossom in this system.

!!!!!THIS IS THE REASON THE CITY OF ATLANTA HAS ONLY 1 CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!

If the falcons release Vick I hope they go 0-16 next year. We’re going to see just how many of you so-called fans go to support a sorry a* team next year, and also the following ones when the falcons games go back to being blacked-out. I hope Vick goes to another team and win as many championships as he can and hunt the city of Atlanta forever like Deion Sanders,David Justice, Dominique Wilkens, Steve Smith, Soon to be Andrew Jones/Josh Smith and the countless other black athletes Atlanta has screwed over. Whatever happen to the Patrick Kerney rape case????? Why is no-one protesting Jonathan Babineaux for killing a pitbull????(Oh Ya…He’s also scheduled to start the season while Rod Coleman is Injured!!!) Atlanta is a racist city and now the world is bout to see it. The Falcons probably is going to dump the 1 player that brought excitement to the city for who?????Joey Harrington, Mark Brunell…You Got to be f* kidding me!!!!Oh ya a word to the wise…the falcons never fixed their offensive lines(lets see those two scrubs survive behind that…Joey get ready to get back into your signature position which is laying on your back LMAO) If Author Blank does this and Michael Vick is proven to be innocent this s is going to leave a bad stain on Atlanta. For god’s sake this guy is being indicted because of informants(was’nt it a informant that got a lady killed by Atlanta Police!!!!!) Then have he even consulted the players about this..which are the most important people. Listen to your players Author they want him on the team…your locker room will fall apart if Vick comes back innocent and you have released him…Atlanta get ready to suffer because this city will never see another championship…There’s a reason why the lakers kept Kobe, The Ravens kept Ray Lewis…but this is the deep south and theirs to many rednecks which started dogfighting, cockfighting, and wild horse fighting in the firstplace…Michael i’ve heard you say that you are a child of god..keep your head up and if you are truly innocent you will be back on top whether in the racist city of Atlanta or somewhere else. Atlanta will be stained with the curse of the Bambino…I’m officially a Titans fan…Go Vince!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we need to evaluate the idea of a running QB in the NFL. Vick is an incredible talent and the Falcons looked the other way with his off field problems which they covered up as we know are finding out.

In the NFL the Super Bowl teams have dropped back passers who stay in the pocket, adjust to the rush, and get rid of the ball to their receivers. They run at the last moment. The Single Wing isn’t run in the NFL for a good reason. It is too talented of a League. Defense Players are too fast. The window of opportunity is inches and that depends on timing. A QB that runs will always be at odds with timing. Sure Vick won some games with his talented feet, but he never lead his team to the big one.

I doubt any NFL team will buy into the running QB again. Vince Young success will be determined by his ability to progress in the drop back game.

Knapp & Mora were spot on in their attempts to make him stay in the pocket. Old Man Mora was right, Vick is a Coach Killer. Now he might be a Franchise Killer.

Schultz like others have pointed out as well the Falcons were not going to take Tomlinson so please stop with the nonsense. What have the Chargers done with Tomlinson? If im correct the Falcons have advanced farther in the playoffs with Vick than the Chargers have with Tomlinson so please save the trash you are writing. Mychelfromatl I said something similar on another blog. I hope they cut him so he can go to a new team and win while this team continues to suck. Im sorry but the dome would not sell out if Schaub was still here and if you believe that your fooling yourself. I hope someone brings up that Patriots game because i know its coming. Nobody knew Schaub was gone start so please save it and they lost anyway. To the person who said we can sneak in the playoffs with Joey Harrington please put down whatever your smoking. If you believe that then I have some beach front property in North Dakota I would like to sell you. For some reason I see Vick beating the charges and thus asking for a trade seeing how the fans in Atlanta really are. If you dont think no one will take a chance on him your crazy. A team with a struggling qb or with a bad fanbase will gladly take him. Imagine Vick with Tampa Bay and John Gruden, who said he would change his whole offense to suit Vick. I would become a Bucs fan and would enjoy him beating us twice a year. Actually that sounds like a great idea. Cut Vick and let him go to Tampa Bay.

I love that story about the hunting trip that Mickey Mantle and Billy Martin took.

The one where Mickey asks the farmer to use his land for hunting. He agrees on the condition that he kill the poorly mule that he owns who is close to death anyway.

Mickey jokingly goes back and tells Billy Martin that the farmer is a SOB and that he refused their request. After saying that Mickey pulls out his shotgun shouts “FU” and shoots the mule in the head. The mule drops dead.

Before he can turn around he hears two more shotgun blasts.

“Billy what the hell are you doing?” Mickey asks Martin.

Billy Martin replied, “I saw how mad that farmer made you and so I shot his horse and his cow!!

Do you honestly think anyones money other than Vick’s financed those torturous looking devices that were pulled out of the home he owned on national tv?? And are you suggesting that the crime is somehow not as foul since an informant uncovered the story?? Can I quote you from above..?…”You have to be fkidding me!!!!” WAKE UP !! And wait there is more….should we really follow your advice and let the “locker room” make the legal judgments?? Listen, Deion was too big for Atlanta…he needed NY, the Dallas Cowboys, San Fransicso and the larger stage general. As for Dominique, Steve Smith,David Justice…well, like Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, DALE F**ing MURPHY, who are white, …they simply got older and sports is a business. Its fair weather, thoughless idiots like you that make it a hard sports town. When the Falcons go 0-16, guess what…Ill still be cheering. Im a true ATLANTA fan…not a dogfighting fan. Accept it for what it is…be sad for Michael,..and move on lady! And BTW…did you see who ATLANTA, the racist, age biased city brought back?? Julio Franco…and he had a couple of hits last night! Welcome back Julio!

I believe that Vick has a lot of growing up to do, and this situation hopefully does it for him. He will learn to trust no one and protect his name at all costs. I really, truly hopes that he gets an opportunity to do that. With that being said, I think that the fanbase should support this team. If the fanbase is really this racially divided as what has shown over the last couple of years, it explains why the team struggles to succeed. Let the players know that they have your support. These are trying times.

Jeff - I’ve mostly agreed with you on your Vick rants lately. However, it’s really pretty silly to talk about how we could have had Tomlinson. I think 99% of anyone with any knowledge of football thought the Falcons were doing the right thing. There was no way of knowing all of this would be going on. Also, as someone said earlier, if it hadn’t been Vick, it would have been Kenyatta Walker. So, in my mind, the whole Vick/Tomlinson is a non-issue.

Is there anyone who is black in the whole state that thinks MV is a bad guy. I think that ref point shaving is a bad guy. I am not defending him because he is white. If there are federal indictments that means he had something to do with it. Now if a parasite lawyer can get him off that doesn’t mean he had nothing to do with it. Here are more white people who suck as people: Paris Hilton, Phil Spector, Lynsey Lohan, any redneck methhead. No white people defend them because they are white. By the way how were Dominique, Tuggle, Hank, Deion, treated in this town? Just curious…

Today the lynch mob is the AJC, talk radio, sports talkradio, Nancy Grace and all of the other people in the media who convicted Vike based on allegations. To the writers of the AJC i hope you guys are happy now. Regardless you guys have neer been fair when it comes to Vick. I have never seen so much unethical journalism in recent memory. Don’t give us that same old crap about “the evil white man putting the black man down”!!! Michael Vick is an embarrassment to himself, his family and the NFL. You don’t see anybody saying one bad thing about a black athlete like say Dunn…he is a great man…he speaks intelligently and gives so much back to the community!! I don’t hate Vick because he is black…I hate him because he gives women herpes…sorry “allegedly”, hides weed is a water bottle…sorry “allegedly”, kills and mutilates dogs …sorry “allegedly”!! Even if he isn’t charged with any of these things he is still linked to them. You have to work hard to get involved in so many crimes. If you want your kids to consider Vick as one of their heroes get ready to set up a savings fund for them…no not for college but for bail because that’s what your kid will learn best by following this piece of s** named Vick!!!

Yes, I know that supporting the teams in this city can be frustrating, especially with the decisions that are made by the people in charge, but true fans stick by their team through good and bad times. As a fan of the Falcons, I will still be supporting my team even if Vick doesn’t play a down this season.

Ok… I have not commented just so I would not get worked up.. Ooops too late.

Let me say first that if Vick did do this and it is likely he did, then he should be punished and likely move on to the next town. If nothing else he knew this was a felony and he refused to disassociate himself from that and deserves to be booted out.

HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER…

You people kill me. It’s not just you Vick haters who are thrilled that he may finally leave town. It’s you PETA loving, so-called dogs-are-as-important-as-people crowd. I do not get how conducting an activity that leads to death of animals (and pit bulls are animals and dont deserve to be called dogs) all of sudden is the most horrible, inhumane, disgusting thing a person can ever do. Are we talking about shooting up a club? NO. Are we talking about sex with kids? NO. In this case, are we even talking about drug use or drug distribution? HECK NO!

Meanwhile the same people who cry about all the dogs Vick may have had a hand in destroying will later on today pick up your rifles off your gun racks and proceed to murder (NOT FOR FOOD OR ANY HUMAN NECESSITY) deer, birds, fish, squirrels, and God knows what else just so that they mount it on your walls I suppose to show who’s the dominant species?

How is that different from what Vick did? Is it because money’s involved? Is it because somehow hunting and fishing for sport has class and dog fighting doesn’t? You self-righteous people make me sick!

With that said, the damage has been done and it highly likely that Vick has played his last game for the Birds. Still wearing his jersey to the sports bar. Costs too much to replace!

The mistake was not drafting Michael Vick; the mistake was Blank presuming he was mature enough to warrant a 10-year contract… and know what that meant. To his coddled brain, it meant he was untouchable.

Vick supporter, I’m having a hard time reading how you feel about the fans of Atlanta, can you expound please? I know that you know that an indictement doesn’t mean that your guilty. Heck, OJ was indicted, and he wasn’t found guilty. oops! Maybe a better example was that the Duke Lacrosse players were indicted, but THEY WEREN’T guilty. Don’t make this racial, it’s human nature to assume guilt, whether white, black, hispanic, etc… The legal system will play itself out, and we’ll see what happens. My guess is that Mike Vick never goes to trial. He will plea for a lesser sentence and roll-over on his buddies. The ATL will never see Vick #7 again in a home jersey, too bad for us anti-Falcon fans.

I think Michael Vick was a good trade at the time because who could have foreseen the current troubles? Also, I think PETA people are completely overzealous, and somewhat extreme in their tactics. There, I said it. And neither Michael Vick nor any of his supporters can blame race on his current troubles either. Race is unfortunately a constant issue in America, however, he is facing prison time not because of racism but because he chose to either participate in or facilitate a very controversial and illegal activity, allow ex-cons total access to his home and vehicle only for them to turn on him when the feds came knocking, and he is, like Martha Stewart before him, and Wynona Ryder before her, a very famous and very rich person who got caught. Its very sad and very tragic and it seems we may be seeing the undoing of a great athlete and success story becuase of poor judgement on his behalf.

The Falcons will be fine. Let Petrino concentrate on establishing a sound running game and try to work a deal for, say, Jake Plummer (trade with the Bucs to lure him out of retirement) or another team’s backup. Forget Vick. He’s going to prison for the rest of his playing years, where he will have quite a bit of time to think about the meaning of decency and compassion. The best thing Blank can do right now is cut him and move on. Let’s hope he has the courage.

I hate how people wanted Vick immediately banned from the NFL for his supposed sponsoring of dog fights. Do you guys not realize that you are asking a man to forfeit 130million just like that? You people think nothing about the business aspect and that probably explains why PETA members are probably the biggest idiots for protesting at the slightest hint of animal cruelty instead of holding a real job. I dare that organization to try protesting in China or some other country and see what happens. Arthur Blank is a shrewd man who amassed a great fortune. I am sure he will make a better decision with what to do with Vick in the span of a week or two than just immediately releasing him in the span of less than a couple days. In no way am I condoning what Vick has been associated with a good thing but keep in mind that humans are indeed animals. So why isn’t PETA picketing just about every sport especially UFC and WWE. For the most part, I frown upon PETA.

when have the Atlanta Falcons ever been a winning franchise. Vick at this point has the highest winning percentage of any other quaterback in the history of the Falcons Organization. INNOCENT until proven guilty. This means that you are treated as an innocent man until the state or government can prove that you are guilty for the crime in which you are charged. This is definately a racially charged city, you can feel it every where you go. People called for Dion Sanders head also, they said he was too flashy too hollywood. Atlanta lets him go and he wins back to back superbowls with two different teams. Mike Vick has been the most exciting part of this city for years. Sold out games home and away, every single weekend. Parking at the dome has gone from 10$ to $40 and $100 in some spots. You people are so damn self righteous it’s ridiculous. Now, if they find him guilty, then give him the punishment the law allows for the particular crime. But if he is found not guilty how many of you will apologize to this man. We are a nation of cowards, we sucumb to pressure no matter what the circumstance. If this was Jerry jones and George Stienbrenner you bet your a* they’re star would play. (NOTICE THAT BOTH OF THEY’RE TEAMS HAVE MULTIPLE CHAMPIONSHIPS). We are such Hypocrites in this country. Those two men understand that our addiction to win big is the most important thing to us. Farther Homeruns, bone crushing tackles, devastating left hooks, no matter what the cost. Our country and society has always been voilent. We took this country by force, enlaved a people by force for 400 years and won’t even come up with a federally written apology for that. You folks are some real hypocrtes. Mike Vick has ruined his mediocre career and I’m delighted that it is no longer debateable as to whether he’s a thug. That he is a criminal is incontrovertible! He’s about to be kicked off the team and booted from the league and I can’t wait for that to happen.

Charles brought up forced integration as a reason for Vick’s problems. His point seems to be that blacks don’t stick to a lie, in unison, as they once did. His lamentations are sickening and sick. At no point did he mention the rule of law. Charles, I appreciate that you, and others, don’t believe in living within the law but society has to have rules to live by and a particular color should not entitle one to more protection, nor should it preclude one from obtaining any. Your brining up force integration is interesting though. The stated goal of forced integration was to level the field for everyone and to bring about equity and equality in education for white and black Americans. That goal has been achieved! Black kids still can’t read nor write with any understanding and, now, white kids can’t either. The goal of elevating levels of intelligence in both races has failed miserably but equality has been attained. The white race, by and large, has been dulled down to the basement level occupied by blacks. Young whites can’t balance a checkbook, put thoughts down in a cogent manner on paper and the level of reading comprehension is through the floor boards. That, along with gangster behavior, is what exposure to the black race has brought to whites in America through forced integration.

Charles, Mike Vick is a criminal and he will be going to jail. The blacks, including his cousin, who rolled over on him did so to save their own ashy skins. I don’t blame them. Vick was the man with the money and he set everything up so he could have plausible deniability. His denials are no longer plausible and he’s going to pay the price for his crimes!

Call me crazy (it won’t be the first time), but I believe Shockley is a better QB than Vick. Nope, he’s not quite as fast as Vick, but a lot faster than you’re average NFL QB. Nope, he can’t sling it quite as hard as Vick either, but he can sling it as hard as the top 10 NFL QB’s. Believe me: While Shockley may be a step or two behind Vick in the 40 he can make up for in his instincts, ball touch and leadership. I would bet money that he can win more than 8 games a season and I’d also bet he’s better than Joey Harington. And for you out there that will say ‘He can’t even start at UGA’, I’ll answer by saying that he backed up the winningest QB in NCAA History. You can’t just bench a guy when he’s winning. If Greene would’ve ever slipped, Shockley would’ve done fine. Let’s see if Petrino see’s the light.

The funny thing is the people who are acting as if this was some sudden reverse in Vick’s behavior. WAKE UP PEOPLE. He has been in trouble in the past, he has made plenty of mistakes,to think he and Pac Man Jones are different is absurd. They are each thugs, the only difference is that Vick has had lots and lots of “special” treatment and free passes. This did not happen overnight. It is simply a matter of someone (The Commissioner)finally having the guts to stand up and say you are not getting away with it, no matter what your role is in the NFL. It is about time Vick is held accountable.

Scout, is that why the Falcons finished 32nd in passing? In seven of their nine losses, all quarterbacked by Vick, the Falcons scored an average of ten points. Having a mobile quarterback accounted for that? How about Brady, Garcia, Brees, Rivers, and everybody else ahead of Vick? They aren’t all mobile but they all are better. And we would have made the playoffs if the receivers had caught the balls Vick put in their hands. And if the defense could have stopped Carolina from running the ball on 3rd and 5 and converting 7 out of 9 times. And we would have been better if the offense could convert a 3rd and 1 or a 4th and 1. And if the play calling were better so that the other team didn’t know what we were going to run. And the gameday experience would have been better if those shirts and towels they shoot into the stands would reach the upper level.

If Vick can prove his innocence, I want him as the Falcons QB. If not, I have to move on with the next guy.

Harrington - I’m pulling for you if the coaches think you’re ready to lead the Falcons, but being I was born in Atlanta and graduated from Georgia I love the idea of DJ getting the chance to turn this thing around.

If Vick is found guilty and is gone in Atlanta…I hope you guys keep your word and stop attending games. Then maybe I can get my season tickets back.

I pray Vick is innocent of these charges for his own sake…

To Mike: There is only one being’s judgement that you need to worry about and that is God. If your are guilty of these charges, repent and please don’t make these same mistakes again. If you are innocent, it won’t matter with the court of public opinion, but who cares. They say it will be surprising who is heaven and who isn’t. Keep your head up!

WE WERE LAST IN PASSING AND 1ST IN RUSHING…WITH THE EXCEPTION OF BRADY, VICK HAS MORE PLAYOFF WINS THAN THE OTHERS YOU NAMED…IT’S ABOUT WINS AND NOT STATS, IF YOU WOULD ASK ANY DEFENSE WHO THEY WOULD RATHER FACE, VICK, GARCIA, BREES, OR RIVERS, I GUARANTEE THEY’LL SAY VICK…DUKE, IM NOT GOING TO GET INTO THE NAME CALLING WITH YOU CAUSE IM NOT UPSET, BUT HARRINGTON ALSO HAS A CAREER QB RATING LESS THAN VICK AND HE ALSO THREW 25 MORE INT’s…..EXPLAIN THAT DUKE?

W, it doesn’t matter what I believe about OJ or Vick, but I am not sitting here degrading or judging either one of them. OJ was found not guilty, so I will let it go at that. If he is really guilty, he doesn’t need to worry about what I think. The only thing that I am trying to say is that none of us were there, so why degrade someone based on accusations? Can you answer that for me? Even if Mike is found guilty, I am still not going to degrade him because I am not perfect and definitely not without sin, so who am I to say anything. One sin is no greater than any other.

PEOPLE CAN SAY THAT THE OFF COORD JUST CALLS THE PLAY ,BUT HE CAN NEVER CALL PERFECT PLAYS ALL THE TIME!!! THEY ONLY GAVE VICK THE POWER TO SWITCH THE SAME PLAY TO THE OTHER SIDE…SO IF IT WAS 4 AND 1 AND THE DEFENSE STACKED ALL 11 IN THE BOX(WOULDNT YOU CALL THIS A STUPID PLAY IF WE STILL RAN LEFT?)OH WAIT A MIN, LETS RUN RIGHT….THAT WAS SO IMMATURE OF MORA IN NOT MAKING KNAPP GIVE THAT DUDE MORE CONTROL!!!

Scout, it’s all about wins? Well, over the past two seasons the Falcons have fifteen of them. They have seventeen losses in that time as well. Not a good record. harrinton has thrown more interceptions but he’s also thrown more touchdowns. His past record doesn’t matter now. He’s the Falcons quarterback! He got the job because Mike Vick has been unmasked as the criminal he is and he’s going to be excommunicated from the league. It’s that simple. The time for debating his attributes and liabilities is over. Mike Vick, through his own behavior, has rendered himself null and void!

To David Duke, the only reason I said Hip-Hop culture, is because if I said the Black race, I would be pulling the race card, plus in another blog, someone talked about now if Mike Vick is gone, maybe the Hip-Hop culture that has become the Dome will leave. Actually, I could care less if Mike Vick stayed or left, it’s entertainment to me. Trust me, I don’t look at any entertainment outlets for morality. In my mind, all Atlanta sports teams are a joke to me and I was born and raised here.

For all of you saying this is a city of Atlanta problem with (white) people not liking Vick and Blacks not…..I would not have mattered what team Vick was playing for, the same thing would have happend.

If Vick was playing for the Chargers, we all would be here asking ourselves, “would you take Vick if released from his contact in San Diego?”

Face it, what Vick did was wrong (eventhough I dont like Dogs- I say let them fight) its illegal and he broke the law. Vick should be punished for breaking the law.

and PETA can still go to hell…or get a job or something geezz…. No one makes a huge deal about children being killed on the streets everyday.

David Duke, we definitely see the world out of different color eyes. It is said that the eyes are a windows to the soul.

I am not an integrationist so you can’t play that foolish game on me with any success. It may work on other integrationist. That kind of non-sense would be welcomed by those who are employed and frequent 1380 waok radio station. They would love that kind of deception. They deceive the African American community every day. They will continue to do it until white people decide to pursue another course. You should join the party.

I was reared by competent upper middle class African Americans who were not integrationist. We are well grounded in our system of belief.

Let’s make a deal. Give all of the Arabs the institutions and businesses in this country and let’s all abide by the law. I’m sure all of those sheiks and prayer leaders will find many criminals among white people who decide to break the law. I hope white people would not find unison in lies.

I bet you will have no problem with sharia law to boot.

Jeff you are the most stupid man I know. You (the media) have succeeded in killing MV with your stories. Yes what mike is (accused) of is atrocious but to write a story like this shows the lack of creativeness you have. I am sure that the other newspapaers look at the articles that you write and thank the Lord above that you don’t work for them. The circus that you (the media) have made is ridiculous. Where were the attention and the outcry when in Texas a (black) man was chained to a truck and dragged through the streets of the town. Where were you Jeff????????? We all know that Senator Byrd (the official spokesman for PETA) spoke the sentiment of your and people like hearts. Here is a man who headed the KKK, killed, hanged and abused African Americans talking about how bad dog-fighting is. Yes, we know Jeff that the life of a dog is far more precious that African Americans. You should thank your spokesman for reminding us of that……………

WHO ARE WE TO SAY WHICH ANIMALS ARE HELD IN HIGHER REGARD THAN ANOTHER? STOP THE BS!!* A DOG IS NO DIFFERENT THAN A COW,DEER, CHICKEN,OR A GOAT*, SO WE SHOULD TREAT THEM ALL THE SAME!!! I DONT SEE PETA PROTESTING SLAUGHTER HOUSES OR DEER HUNTERS?? EVEN THE US, WE’LL ATTACK OTHER NATIONS BECAUSE THEY’RE BEING IN-HUMANE TO PEOPLE, WHY NOT ATTACK OTHER NATIONS THAT ARE IN-HUMANE TO DOGS? WE MAKE OUR OWN RULES AS WE GO AND LET JUDGES INTERPRET THE LAW HOWEVER THEY WANT…. Jeff,

On the stupidity of the Beckhams…., David Beckham does not represent the world of soccer. The joke that he and his wife are, I am pleading with N American sports enthusiasts not to equate soccer with these nuts.

This whole charade that the couple has been resorting to, is sick…that’s just the way I feel…..first the soccer moms and feminazis co-opt the sport and not this couple…. I just wish Americans could see what soccer was really about and not some game played by girls in some middle school. Soccer worldwide is by men, for men and of men. Unfortunately, in the US, people with agendas have created a skewed image of this great game.

I had to get that out of my system…just glad you pointed out the insanity of the Beckhams in that line.

Revisionist thinking. Been hearing the comment of “woulda coulda shoulda” had Tomlinson. Tomlinson has yet to lead the Chargers as deep in the playoffs as Vick has led the Falcons and Tomlinson has also had Brees, Rivers, and Gates plus currently a much better defense than the Falcons have now. If Vick could have somehow led this crappy personnel past the Eagles to the Super Bowl and somehow lead that same crappy personnel past the Patriots then I guarantee we would have a few less dog lovers on this site. Fact of the matter is Vick, Tomlinson, Manning, or Jesus could not have led that sorry team to the Super Bowl and now that Vick is officially a screw up go ahead and blow up the team (cut Vick) like what would have happened had Vick never made the Falcons an instant contender and go through the rebuilding phase in which the Falcons can return to mediocrity in about four years.

Great job researching your article, Schultzy. As has been pointed out many times in the comments, the Falcons were never going to draft LT. The Vick move at the time looked daring and brilliant and until a couple of years ago, seemed to be working out. You represent the problem with this sorry excuse for a newspaper with your ridiculous headlines and your preference for sensationalism and argument over the facts. Great job as always.

What people fail to realize is that the FBI doesn’t just indict anybody. They have a lot of evidence. Since 2000, they garnered a 99% conviction or plea bargain rate. That’s an astounding number. If they FBI indicts you, there is a good chance you’ll be convicted. To the notion that Atlanta is a racist city, I ask you on which side? Is it racist against whites, blacks or both? Calling Atlanta racists against blacks is like the pot calling the kettle black.

So Schultz, apparently your memory is failing you but the only bright lights the Falcons have had in the past decade are the Dirty Bird run to the Super Bowl, Vick almost singlehandedly beating the Packers in Green Bay in the playoffs, and the running clinic that Vick and Dunn put on the Rams to take the Falcons to the NFC Championship. That’s it. What was Tomlinson going to do? Instead of Vick, you need to evaluate the picks of Michael Booker, Shannon Brown,Reggie Kelly, etc. If Vick would have gone to any other team that was even slightly better than the 2001 Falcons they would at least have a Lombardi Trophy as compensation for Vick being suspended for dogfighting.

Heh, what he is accussed of is wrong, but should the life of a successful, productive, young human being be destroyed because he may have made some harmed some dogs. Let the punishment fit the crime… counseling on animal cruelty, community service helping the cause of animals, large fines to be donated to animal shelters, maybe even a few games supension without pay. Let’s help this man with his problem. Destoying his career and locking him up for this is unexcussable.
