Shame on Vick, again
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
According to Tracy McGrady, who is now two victories shy against Utah of leaving the first round of the NBA playoffs after five straight flops, he won’t answer his cellphone until his Houston Rockets are eliminated from the postseason.
It’s called focus.
Are you listening, Michael Vick?
Sounds like the Falcons quarterback shouldn’t answer his cellphone, home phone, e-mail, regular mail, beeper, faxes, doorbell or anything else until the end of his NFL career. Otherwise, he likely is to continue to make news for reasons other than his quick feet and strong arm.
This time, Vick missed a flight to Washington D.C. Monday night for a function he was scheduled to attend early the next morning. The function was to feature U.S Congressmen, along with more than 100 folks associated with an advocacy group to raise the awareness for funding of after-school programs.
Not good.
You add all of that to the water bottle thing and the Ron Mexico thing, and you have another disastrous PR thing for the Falcons involving Vick.
We’re back to focus - or the lack thereof, when it comes to Vick functioning as the face of the franchise.
Then again, two of these incidents involved airports (the water bottle thing and the missed-flight thing). So maybe Vick should consider driving or just go Greyhound.

From what I hear, his flight was late and so he missed a connecting flight to Washington. If thats true, he can hardly be blamed for this one.

Terence,
Maybe you should find something else to focus on. Vick is human and we all make mistakes.
“two of these incidents involved airports”…..he missed the flight so he never went to the airport.

You didn’t get the whole story Ben. Yes, he missed his connecting flight but Air Tran (his sponsor) got him onto another flight later that night that would have taken him to DC. Problem is, it was too late for Vick so he just went home and missed the flight. Without telling anyone or giving any reason.
Fact is, Vick is a spoiled brat that can’t stand having to wait for a later flight like all the rest of us do every stinking day.
Yes, he can be blamed for this one and should be.

Hasn’t everyone missed a flight or two at Hartsfield before? I can’t imagine having every last detail of my life scrutinized by the media machine (this story is to be found on several national sports websites, as well), including my flight itineraries. Vick doesn’t get much credit for his charitable contributions and summer camps, nor for his play on the field. Give the guy a break!

He is and always will be a personal loser! For goodness sakes, with a $103,000.00 million contract, even minus his tax status, charter a plane for $5500.00 round trip. Its that easy! His agents are trying to make chicken - - - - into chicken salad and it just doesn’t work. Good luck Bobby with getting him to understand what being a true winner and someone with high character and morals are.

Terrence Moore; you have got to be kidding me. Are we going to trash the guy now because he missed a flight. OMG. How many people miss a flight everyday, every week. Who in the heck cares? You are so frustrating. How does an idiot like you remember to breath? He missed a flight! What does this have to do with anything. Normally your articles are much longer winded six seven paragraphs maybe. But here you have very few words. Why? Because this is not a real story dumby. You have nothing useful to say. So to finish this off in a manor that is equal to the level of your childish meandering so-called STORY. I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! Drop dead. You’re the reason I will never get another subscription to this useless rag.

Air tran offerered Vick a late flight out on Monday night , but bu that time Vick had left the airport in disgust. If this was something that meant that much, you don’t take chances on planes landing late. Last time I heard , they have private charter flights, and I think Vick has the money and ability to have scheduled one if needed to avoid another embarrassing episode. If you think he’s bad off the field, just WAIT UNTIL HE GETS ON THE FIELD THIS YEAR.

Why does everyone care about what Vick does in the off season? People talk about him as if he is the first person on the planet to make mistakes. Mr. Moore would have a difficult time handling Vick’s star power at his age let alone in his early twenties. All I care about is the Falcons winning football games. Vick’s personal life should be his alone. Everyone else has the basic right of privacy, we should begin to respect his. It is another case of blood thirsty reporters making the news instead of bearing witness to it. Find a real story or simply be quite.

My understanding was his publicist said his connecting flight was around 8:00 PM and he was late and missed the connection. Upon further review his connection was at 10:00 PM thus he had time to make the connection. Of course it will be the wide receivers fault or maybe the offensive lines fault. Or maybe its because this is really only his umteenth year in the system, so he will only get better. Of course it just as well he didn’t speak in front of Congress, because I doubt they would have been able to hear him mumble or even been able to decifer his lingo.

Go away, Terrance. Yours is the only editorial that continues to be negative on a daily basis. Why is that the case? Are you that upset with the world? Can’t you find postitive aspects to Vick’s career? How about donating money to the Virginia Tech families? How about participating in Warrick Dunn’s charity golf tourney? How about his intent to speak to Congress about funding for after school programs? It looks to me that Michael Vick is trying pretty darn hard to repair his image with this city.

a mature person who takes life, as well as others, seriously, gives themselve’s a cushion, extra time, just in case the airlines start acting like airlines, again, which everyone in their right minds know will happen. especially someone that has traveled as many times as Vick has. to say that it couldn’t be done, there was no way for him to get there on time, is a complete cop-out and an excuse you would see coming from a very immature teenager. just disrespect for anyone else, sad inconsideration for others and a total self-absorbed attitude. the Falcons truly seem to be trying to find a way to win on a consistent basis, but a just hamstrung by Mike Vick and his contract. this franchise is in a holding pattern until someone finds a way to get rid of this so-called great athlete, it takes more than just physical attributes that were acquired at birth to truly be a great athlete, and a lot of it starts in the brain.

God forbid you comment on the draft that’s now three days away Moore. I swear this paper is useless unless you want to hear about Calvin Johnson (who the beat writers obviously want the Falcons to get, which tells me they know even less about the team than originally thought) or a half-a*******ed position breakdown from Steve Wyche. Go to any other newspaper in the nation and you get daily information about a team, but not here, no…somebody sneezes, Vick doesn’t say, “Bless You” and this paper has him front and center.
What’s the story with Jonathan Babineaux? Is Jason Webster still on the chopping block? How about an update on Grady Jackson? No, we get a story about Vick not being focused. Didn’t he play in a charity golf tournament the other day for Warrick Dunn?
Please AJC, we can go anywhere and read about people bashing Vick (just go to ProFootballTalk.com, they have a personnel vendetta against him and bash him on a daily basis)…how about reporting on the rest of the damn team for once?

Just another example of this guy making bad decisions.
Why should we expect him to make any better decisions than he has in the past?
Either on or off the field?
This guy is just stupid and spoiled.
I hate that he has to play for us…
And another thing - did you see where he gave (basically, for him) tip money to Va Tech to help the families?
I wouldn’t want to be his PR outfit - what a jerk.

Well, I see the Vick-heads are out in full force, bowing and scraping and sniffing the jock of their lord and savior.
Mr. Moore, of course, is right: Vick continues to present the attitude that he can’t be bothered with the kinds of inconveniences that we peasants must suffer.
In the meantime, I can hardly wait for the Usual Suspects to show up and blame this entire episode on Jim Mora, Greg Knapp, the offensive line, the receivers, President Bush, global warming, Don Imus, etc, etc., etc.

vick apologists make me sick in the stomach.
why does vick get scrutinized so much? maybe because he’s the highest profile sports figure in atlanta. if mike vick was an asian, white or latino guy he’d get the same amount of exposure and criticsm.
why get all riled up about a guy missing a flight? it’s not about missing a flight. it’s about responsibility. along with all the rewards that come along with being an nfl starting qb and one of the faces of the league comes responsibility. mike vick has proven to everyone this offseason that he’s still immature. this wasn’t a date with congress that was set up in the last minute. he knew about it for some time. just because you are tired and a flight has been delayed, dont’ cancel. go fulfill your promise and go meet congress for the good cause you are representing.
its because of people on this blog that mike vicks maturation and growth has been stymied. nobody holds him accountable for his actions and is allowed to do or get away with whatever he wants.

Alright Terrance - Enough is enough. The man was trying to do something nice and missed his flight! Big deal! Tom Brady, the poster boy for the NFL, is having a baby with some random chick. Why don’t you write an article about that. That seems like something that could damage his face-of-the-franchise look, but no one seems to talk about it. Vick missed a flight, what a moron, huh?

Vick should have made the meeting. If you have that much money, you should not miss a function of this nature. Now, something that should be positive, has turned into this, another negitive.
I truely fill sorry for Vick. He has made some really bad choices, however I do not believe he’s a bad person. They way people talk about him (bloggers) must hurt.
I honestly hope he can focus his time and energy into the sport he plays. He has the potential to raise the level of his performance and lead his team. Hopefully a new staff can help him turn things around, on and off the field.
Hang in there Mike, the real fans are pulling for you.

Wow, Terence, I must say that I truly am impressed with you for a change.
You unloaded on ‘Mike V’ like he was caucasian or something. Bravo! (Yes, I really mean it and DO appreciate the objectivity.)
For the record, when you are a spokesperson for a major airline like AirTan, they CAN and DID get Vick an alternate flight. Vick has now demonstrated himself a pathological liar and humiliated both our ATLANTA FALCONS and AIRTRAN. Are we supposed to believe an overpaid, self-serving juvenile like Vick or the Miami Police and AIRTRAN? Hmmmm…….
Gee, you don’t see the other pro athletes employed by AIRTRAN (Warrick Dunn, Kari Lehtonen, etc.) doing this nonsense and being caught calling the company a liar.
Be careful, though, Terence. If you criticize Vick, people on here might start calling you a racist or something.
Let the blind followers start defending Vick’s cumulative off-the-field behavior since being drafted just because of skin color start calling everyone racists in ……. 3…. 2…. 1….

Those who think its all about missing a flight don’t get it. It’s about integrity, loyalty, responsibility, character, and someone who stands for our great city. If Vick was your son and was to be honored and promote after-school program funding, is that what you would really expect and say to him? You’re foolish then. Charter a plane, rent a limo, or do something. What he did was shameful, cowardly, something he should regret, and is not what I would expect from a leader off or on the field. So far, his character has shown he has no class.

good that he went to a fund raiser in Tampa, but bad that he doesn’t understand scheduling like a respectful adult. he could’ve taken the later flight and still got there on time, but that was too much trouble for ‘his highness’, who cares about Congress, bunch of jerks, but Vick should care about the kids he was suppposed to represent. and a little tip for Mr. Vick, you can get away with acting like this when you win! people tend to give someone more of a pass then, but losing and looking lost most of the time while doing it, and then blaming everyone else, that will never fly.

Instead of calling Airtrain, call your congressman and ask why did they allow the funding cut in the first place!
What is up with Airtrain just releasing all the man’s personal flight business to the AJC. Leave it to the AJC sports team to get the “real” story. Oh but since the real story is that he was leaving a charity event and his plane actually did arrive late and he actually missed his connecting flight. He also actually tried to book two flights after his but they were full. The only “real” story left is that he should have taken the 11pm flight (2 plus hours later) and arrived at his hotel at 2am for the 8am breakfast. get a life AJC and quit pimping Vick for stories! THE ONLY FREAKING REASONS THESE THINGS END UP BEING NEGATIVE PR IS BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT THE AJC WANTS IT TO BE!! Try investigating something first before you dragqueens try drumming up @#$% God, you Furman Bisher and the ajc are the WORST man. You beat that dead horse called the “water-bottle” incident to death and then when the man does something good like donating thousands of dollars to VA Tech victim’s families, you give it a small mention in the back pages. Airtran is going to drop Vick as spokesman in July (about 70% chance to me), so his free flights will go bye bye. I say the guy should get a G4 and call it a day. He won’t ever be late for a function with his own jet, avoid FSA and only have weather and other rich people as potential delay factors in flying.

I will admit that I have never been a TM fan; however, I agree with him on this wholeheartedly. Yes, I have missed a flight before at Hartsfield because of security lines, check-in, etc. My fault. You know what I did? I paid 25$ and got on another flight. Simple as that. This is not just an article a/b Vick missing a flight. It is about a man who continues to display irresponsibility when he has an opportunity to make a difference. It does not make a difference if he makes 103 million or 103 thousand, he was speaking before congress a/b a serious issue. He had a chance to make a difference and he blew it. Come on…Vick is a man not a kid. I tell my 4-year old that there are consequences to your actions. He understands that. Why can’t a grown man understand that? He is EXPECTED to be the leader of this team THIS year. He has said he relishes the opportunity. Well, I hope he does a better job than what he has shown thus far. I seriously hope he proves me wrong.

Hey Y”all:
I am not going to mention the nonsense of this article. All I am goint to say is thatMichael Vick is one of the greatest quarterback in the NFL. He leaves his heart for the game on the field. That is where his focus is at. To have these negative local sportswriters try to berate him is intolerable. Vick has established foundations, given to charity and alike outside of football. What more can you ask for an athlete. And that is what he is: an athlete. He is not the President, a social worker, an economist, ect. He is an athlete. And that is where his focus lies. On the PR side, he should hire quality people to keep him on track with those issues accordingly. You negative talking local sportwriters know the deal. Quit writing like your are ignorant to this system. Vick is an athlete. And A “GREAT ONE” at that. And until he tells us he is something else besides that, you out not judge him so criticaly beyond that. Therefore terrance Moore. Get the hell out of Atlanta so that you can “focus” on writing your negative articles on local sports heroes in another city. Leave our local professional athletes alone.

Well if this was such a big deal and the US Congress wanted Vick to appear in person, then they should have arranged to send a private jet or something to make sure he’d be there on time vs. going thru the airports running the risk of missing connecting flights, mechanicals, and/or other flight delays. I’m quite sure the US Gov’t can afford something like that.

Mr. Moore I just recently graduated with a degree in mass media and maybe when you graduated ethical journalism wasnt taught. Your suppose to be a responsible journalist why are you talking about “Ron Mexico” do you know that to be true, have you saw Vicks blood test or did he give you herpes. If not your reporting information that you can’t get to be proven true. On top of that as far as McGrady and Vick goes Vick has gotten his team out of the first round, so there is no comparison. And from what I read in this same newspaper yesterday was that Vick didn’t miss his flight it was delayed causing him to miss his connection flight. Your a horrible reporter. If you can get a job I know I can.

If Manning missed a flight would he still be as scrutinized as Vick? That is what’s wrong with this state you can stand to have an elite athlete on the hometown sports teams and you run them out of town. Where is the support you are suppose to show your team and the players. How is this humiliating to the team or to the fans, because he missed a flight. Seriously some people need to get a personal life. It seems that the AJC doesnt want to talk about the good the man is doing in the community, but as soon as something as small as missing a flight comes up it is a big controversy. I wish this state had real fans and not just fairweather.

Terrance, give it a break man. he missed a flight, but no one focused on what he was going for which was his great efforts on providing activities for children after school programs. What we need to focus on is why the government cut funding. See we have our priorities mixed up, because there shouldn’t have been a need for him to be there if The govermnet was taking care of there part. Why should we have to rally for anything that is concerning education or giving our youth activities that would keep them out of trouble.

You’re right…Manning, McNair, Brady, or McNabb don’t get as scrutinized as Vick. Why? You figure it out. But if I were the Falcons, Vick would be required to talk with each of them about how to be a professional and then replace the people around him.

The number one thing I hate about the AJC sports columm is that yall don’t report the whole story, just part. I mean the dude was in tampa bay during a charity event for warrick dunn. Want don’t yall called warrick dunn or any of vick’s charities, but wait that want be a story of reporting something good that a person doing, nope that wouldn’t be a good read at all. TM your article should read “Shame on Moore, again”. Your article is a complete non-issue. Vick hasnt done anything wrong but you are putting him in a negative light. The Falcons have a new head coach in Bobby Petrino and a fresh new attitude. Why do you continue to cast a negative shadow on Vick. Vick missed a connecting flight to Washington. He didnt miss the flight on purpose. He could have caught the next one but he decided to turn around and go home. Big deal, Vick is a human being and is not perfect. The Falcons need to move up in the draft and get Calvin Johnson in order to get another reliable target for Vick to throw to. The focus should be on the improvement of the Falcons and not in disparaging Michael Vick, particularly when Vick has done nothing wrong.

You people can’t criticize Mike Vick because of his poor play, selfish attitude or irresponsible behavior.
If you say anything about Vick doing wrong or breaking the law or being a liar, we get to call you a racist.
If you don’t like the Falcons losing and blame it on Vick’s poor QB play, we get to call you a racist.
If you say Peyton Manning (or any white QB, for that matter) is a better QB and better team representative than Vick, we get to call you racist.
If you point out that Vick has one of the lowest QB Ratings in the NFL, we get to call you a racist.
If you say Vick makes the Falcons look bad, we get to call you a racist.
If you don’t like Vick knocking up b!tc#es and giving women ‘the herps’ we get to call you a racist.
If say Matt Schaub had a higher QB rating than Vick, we get to call you a racist.
If you say anything bad about Joey Harrington, we don’t really care. He probably deserves it.
If you say you’d rather have Donovan McNabb or Vince Young as your Falcons QB, then…..uh,…….. uh,….. …..we’ll just call you a racist anyway.
Why? Cause we can. Deal with it suckas! WORD.

Let’s move on and get behind Mike because we need him to perform at a top level if we ever expect to get back to the playoffs and win a superbowl.

Some of you people on this blog are really mean and cruel. This non-issue has nothing to do with the 2007 NFL season. The only people who should be upset with Vick not appearing before Congress is CONGRESS! If they’re not losing any sleep over this, why should you? Get a life! And as for the game itself, football is a team sport, not a one man show like golf. It takes all eleven players on offense doing their jobs for them to be successful, not just one player having to cover for everybody else’s shortcomings. You people are really funny. If you put HALF as much energy into the politics that govern this state and our country as you do hating M-VICK, we wouldn’t have all the problems we face on a daily basis as a working class community.

Wow. Wake me up when the AJC decides to write an article about something relevant. I’m actually a fan of Terence Moore’s writing, compared to most other AJC readers, but this is pathetic. What’s next? An article criticizing him for only donating $10K to the families at Virginia Tech? An article criticizing him for not flying to Sri Lanka on his vacation to help tsunami victims? An article calling for him to join the army and go fight for our country in Iraq? He’s not Superman, imbeciles, he’s a football player, and athletes in general are not the smartest people in the world. So he missed a flight. Big deal. Go back to your own imperfect life and try to make yourself a better person instead of manufacturing ways to criticize others.
Right now in Atlanta, we have a hockey team that just embarrassed itself in the playoffs, a football team preparing for some of the biggest personnel decisions of the year, and a baseball team that has serious questions to answer about the back end of its rotation. Not to mention UGA and GT college baseball, spring football, the Hawks, arena football, etc. What do all of these events have in common, you ask? They are all sports-related topics more important than Michael Vick’s flight itinerary. And yet, we have a column and a fan blog today about a missed flight. I need to take a dump — time to go buy the print version.

But if you hate and persucute him things will only get worse. I’m asking you to let him babysit your kids. Just support him on the field.

Terrence, according to the brilliant logic and reasoning of all the idiot vick defenders out there that try to justify every dumb thing he does both on and off the field, you will now be considered a racist. That’s right, you will be now labeled as a self hating racist because in the ‘vick lickers’ pathetic little world view, anyone who criticizes Vick must be a racist and a hater.
Know this, anyone who throws out the hater or racist label, is just proving that they have absolutely no intelligent points or rebuttals to make and admitting they have lost the argument. Using the hater or racist label is the last resort of vapid and intellectually defecient people that have nothing of substance to contribute.

hi,i’m black, the whole world is against me, when i wake up in the morning the slavery of many years ago stops me right in my tracks. it won’t get out of my way, it even drank all my beer. all i ever wanted was an apology, i tell everybody it’s for healing and reconciliation, good one, huh, thought of that one myself. but really i just want the apology so i can use it as an admission of guilt, then i’ll get me a johnny cochran and see what free gifts i can get, oh wait the whole world is against me because i’m the only one that has ever been enslaved, matter of fact, i’m the only one that has ever been treated bad, well, my distant relatives anyway. but i won’t let that stop me from being a racist against any every group around. i can do that, it’s ok, but if someone else does that, well that’s just horrible. they better not, i’ll get out my crutch…i got a whole deck of race cards and i’m ready to dispense them in a moment’s notice. if i do poorly at work and they say anything about it, i’ll just say that i was discriminated against, if a black quarterback is awful and anyone says anything about it, it’s because those white devils are bigots. please help me, the world has been so hard on me, and only me, send me a donation today, let me live by a different set of standards than others, don’t ever hold me accountable for anything, it’s not my fault, it’s the world’s fault, it keeps picking on me. and if you don’t believe me, if you don’t agree with me, if you don’t give me a pass in life, than you are prejudiced. oh how hard it is to be me. gotta go be loud and obnoxious in public and wait for somebody to say something so I can call the a cracker, but that’s not a hate word, so it’s ok.

They got him another flight?? 2 and one half hour later!!
As a season ticket holder I do not want the MVP of my franchise hanging around the airport without substancial security for 30 minutes much less almost 3 hrs.
When the spokesperson for your airline is late for his flight because of you, HOLD THE PLANE FOR 15 minutes. You know he is on board, that the flight is important, and that the next flights are booked solid. They cannot mess around with him like this when it is in his contract to only fly Airtran….which it most definately is!

For the good of race relations in Atlanta, I think the reactionaries should from this point on bow out of the blogs and vents on Michael Vick.
I also think people who write “as if they were black” and complain about the race card should take a look in the mirror.
But I do think anyone who writes in “black vernacular” and actually uses “I’ze” is a racist. That’s “Gone With The Wind” era “negro slang” usage. Vick is not at all articulate, but I can absolutely guarantee he’s never used the word “I’ze” in conversation.

Vick needs to pull his head out of the sand and grow up ASAP. He is supposed to be the leader of the team and he needs to act like it. Don’t give me the usual garbage “who cares if he misses a flight it’s what he does between the white lines that matters”. That’s a cute sentiment but not in line with reality. A leader sets an example and the only one he is setting is a bad one. And by the way, while he is without a doubt the BEST athlete I’ve ever seen, he’s been a lousy QB for last few years and his performance vastly overrated. Who cares if your QB can run for 1000 yards if he can’t complete simple passes on a regular basis? I’m not a fan of Terrance Moore but in this instance he is on the money. With a $130 million deal, he needs to not only behave, he needs to behave BETTER THAN THE REST. Double standard? Yeah. But it is what it is and that ain’t gonna change.
And while I’m rambling I think it’s worth noting that Mr. Blank has never really taken Vick to task for any of these problems and that has probably made things a lot worse.

Mr. Moore, Tell me Sir, what is it really like being the HOUSEN* @ Uncle Tom’s Cabin. We all knew inside our minds that you were a graduate of UTC but this time you just jumped out of the closet and revealed yourself to everyone on the planet. Each and every sportswriter employed by the AJC is anti-Vick. However, you’re are a living example of what my parents and grandparents always told me as a child. They warned me that I would ALWAYS be hurt MOORE by my own people than by any other group of persons. It has proven true throughout my lifetime. People think that “crabs in a barrel” theory is nonsense, but you’ve just proven it.
Nevermind the fact that Air Tran is trying to spin negative publicity. It was THEIR he missed his connecting flight which started this avalanche of BS. Perhaps they were able to make another flight available for him @ 10:50pm (nearly 3 hours later). Apparently within that window of time, he’d already made arrangements to have his mother represent him (which I’m sure she felt was a privilege). Who better to speak about those programs other than someone who relied on them to assist in the lives of her children. I think this shows that he was thinking ahead. He wanted to be sure that he was represented in some way. Next, he was there to speak and receive and award for philanthropy. What about that don’t you understand, you idiot? He was trying to return from another charity event in which he was in SUPPORT of a TEAMMATE who’s charity provides homes for single parent families. Yah, I know, Vicks an bad guy. Get in touch with reality. He reached out to his alma mater during a tremendous tragedy. By the way, his $10,000 dollar donation set in motion for the UNITED WAY to match that donation and any other donations that come in via his charity organization or others. So this donation has been magnified. Where is the article on the positive effect his youth camps (in Atlanta and Virginia) have had on attendees. Be sure to mention it when you write your retraction or open letter of apology for your failure to portray truth instead fuel the fire that is burning down Georgia. Didn’t Atlanta learn the last time….

Mr Moore, I don’t often agree with you, but you are spot on with this one. Yes, missing a flight happens to everyone, but in the wake of all the recent cotroversy surrounding MV, his (and the Falcons’ franchise) reputation could ill afford another hit, and he should have made more of an effort to get to D.C. For someone of his means it really wouldn’t have been that difficult, he just didn’t try very hard. See the pattern here? He doesn’t much care.

STRAIGHT$$$$HOMIE, your posts were logical, insightful, thought provoking, and well presented. Unfortunately, the IGNORANT MONKEYS you are addressing can’t comprehend, or hear above the roar of their hatred. You presented facts that won’t fit within the paradigm they’ve established for Vick, and themselves. In order to feel better about themselves, they villify, and make claims about the alledged inferiority, or lack of ability, of others.
I don’t know if you are old enough to remember, but here is an example of their ancestors flawed logic, and stupidity. During segregation, Blacks were denied the right to vote, attend White State supported Schools that Black taxes supported, especially in the South. Blacks were also denied the right to play Pro football, baseball, basketball, tennis, or golf. Through their flawed logic, these racist mentalities told themselves it was because of some alledged innate inferiority. Now here’s where the stupidity, and flawed logic comes in. Their sick way of proving this to themselves was to pass laws that prevented Blacks from doing what these CONFEDERATE MINDED MONKEYS claimed was beyond the capacity of Blacks in the first place?
You see this same outdated mentality being expressed by the current version of those CONFEDERATE MINDED MORONS. They are quick to question Vicks intelligence, and his ability to lead. Some are so dillusional, they even claim Vick will never be able to do things he’s already done. Vick flips a finger, and has a waterbottle incident, and he becomes a vile thug. By the way, neither of these incidents are illegal, but they are unacceptable indiscretions. On the other hand, Matt Schaub gets arrested for assaulting a man outside a club, which is a felony, and he’s declared a true leader and future HOF QB. The true definition of a thug, according to webster, is defined by MSchaubs actions, not Vicks. They villify, and define Vick by blowing out of proportion, his QB stats, and lessor noncriminal acts. Yet Schaub is not defined by his QB stats, or accomplishments, which are below Vicks, nor his arrest for felony assault. You can see the same flawed logic and stupidity in their approach? No matter how vehemetly they deny it, race is a big issue with them, especially when it comes to Vick. Just wanted you, and every other intelligent Falcon fan, to know what you are dealing with. Usinglogic and common sense, when addressing these IGNORANT MONKEYS, is a total waste of time. GO FALCONS!!!!!!

Wow, this is so easy. I can always count on the stupid and predictable Vick apologists to easily prove my point.
Terrence, as you can see from the idiotic post above by some clown referring to himself as some sort of a ‘homie’, you are now a self hating uncle tom racist in disguise because you dared criticize another black man. Don’t you know the rules Terrence? Mike is black, and since you are as well, you aren’t ever suppose to criticize him, lest you be labeled a racist and uncle tom.
Wow, what a bunch of mindless idiots these Vick apologists are. It’s just plain pathetic.

Guys don’t get upset when you see someone use a totally irrelevent situation to explain a current situation, such as using slavery and racism to explain why people complain about Vick. It simply means that they where not encouraged to develop their cognitive and logical thinking skills growing up. Whenever they asked their mama a question, she told them to shut up! The only thing they have learned growing up is that they came over here as slaves and so therefore that is the reason they use to explain everything. Its all they know.

When was the last time as a Falcon fan you went into a game with your #1 concern being the play of Mike Vick?
Should Vick have made alternate arrangements to honor his commitment to speak in front of Congress? Absoulutely.
Isn’t it a sad commentary on the intelligence of Congress that they needed Mike Vick to make their funding decisions? I can see it now …. “Mike you’re right, I am so glad you were able to provide such wise council - Funding approved”

Jake, Please consider this. While watching ESPN detail the pending release of David Carr, I listened intently to 5 experts discuss his lack of success. Each had excuses for him. They ranged from lack of talent around him, to no offensive line and coaching problems. The same excuses had been used by the network talking heads to defend Peyton and Jake Plummer. Peyton always had talent around him and couldn’t win until this year. In recent years Favre has looked horrendous but is labeled a “gunslinging competitor” instead of a current LOSER. It’s situations such as these that may lead some to believe that their may be another reason behind the critisism. We haven’t forgotten Rush Limbaugh have we? Just some thoughts, have a good one…

to the defense of the defense, they couldn’t hold in many games late because they were on the field too much, not having enough time to rest between drives, our offense would come in, stall, 3 an out kind of stuff, that gives a defense no hope and just runs them down late in the games. but there isn’t any doubt that our defense needs improvement, so do many parts of our team. but nothing matters til we get a real qb.

Vick can’t charter a private jet for a couple of hours and then fly back on air tran?? Yeah I would say he is quite concerned about those after school programs. Can we just drop Vick now and move on, the guy just doesn’t have a clue. I don’t care what the color of his skin is, I don’t care how smart he is, and I don’t care if he invests his money or p** it away, its time to say we made a mistake and move on. He obviously just doesn’t want to be the face of this franchise and take on that type of responsibility. Get a clue Mike, if you don’t care about the after school programs, then just don’t make the commitment. It would save you and the Falcons a lot of headaches. If your worried about someone stealing your jewelry then leave it at home or don’t wear it. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand these concepts.

I agree why should everyone have to hate on Vick, because there is always something that happens to him over and over and over and over and over well I guess you get my point. Some people go through there whole life and things do not happen to them like Vick has let them happen to him in the last 2-3 years. That is why everyone is looking down on him. How can he manage a team if he can’t handle his own life. As a leader you have to be or seem to be bullet proof and Vick keeps coming up with bullet holes.

Terrance, I usually have some respect for you dispite your controversial articles sometimes. I can deal with controversy but this article is puzzling to me. it let’s me know that you are doing it on purpose just so you can listen to people tell you how stupid this article is. Sometimes though when people dislike you it makes you even more popular. I personally don’t dislike you but this article puzzles me man.
The man first of all was coming from a charity event in Tampa Bay supporting a TEAMMATE Terrance, A TEAMMATE for his event. How selfish of you to show this man up like this in the middle of change of coaching staff that he has to adjust to. Remember Terrance, Vick didn’t send a resume to AirTran, AirTran came after Vick to use his face and name. Vick dosen’t work for AirTran, so therefore he doesn’t have to answer to anyone. That’s not a lack of integrity or character. The man is not an executive business traveling man that has to be on time for every charitable event, he’s a football player that’s trying get ready for a new system.
If Vick needs to clean up his image, let him do it on the field, not trying to be the focus of a charity meeting. He was busy with another event and couldn’t make it. Even if he did decided to just send someone else. That’s his choice but his money already supports the cause. COME ON TERRANCE. STOP TAKING THIS SO PERSONAL. GO TO CHURCH THIS SUNDAY OR DO SOMETHING CREATIVE.

Favre - been to 2 super bowls 3 time NFL MVP certain 1st Ballot Hall of Fame - Still manged 8-8 w/ a roster worse than (if this is possible) the Falcons
Manning - Perennial Playoff QB with incredible #’s and numerous NFL records - 1st Ballot Hall of Fame. 2 time MVP.
Falcons, never back to back winning seasons.

Ok, how much time do y’all have on your hands? He missed a flight, whoop de doo. We should tar and feather him for that (sarcasm at its best). It has gotten to the point now that people are finding ways to vilify Vick and talk themselves blue. Why weren’t you doing that when he was leading us to the NFC championship? Give me a break. I’m sick of the negatives. It’s time for people in this city to unite behind the team, with Vick or not, and support. We finally got a football team in ATL where the potential is there, as is the star power, and people want to point fingers. If you point the fingers, point them at the right people, not whom you consider public enemy #1. Let’s focus on the draft, workouts, and soon training camp. No one on this sight can see into the future, so you can’t say that Vick won’t lead the Falcons to the Super Bowl this year.

Instead of arguing about color, race, or ethnicity why don’t you guys just focus on the stats. He hasn’t proven anything yet. He doesn’t even run as fast as he used to which is why we don’t see him on the highlight film anymore. I personally have always liked Vick but I think he is digging himself a hole that all of you racists (black and white) keep talking about. Give the man another year if doesn’t suceed then find some team like the Texans to take him off of our hands, but do it because of his stats not anything else. He could be a phenomenal leader, but unfortunately he is far far from being a good leader.

Dear WH, My comments were directed to Jake, but since you want to discuss it, you’re 100% on point. I see what I see because it’s what I experience. In the military, the board room, the classroom, even Wall St. I’m not trying to convince anyone about my reality. I’m just speaking on it. I’d never even have lunch with Sharpton, he’s lost. One other thought, those you mentioned had outstanding teams around them to produce those achievements. No QB has ever won a Super Bowl alone. Even Elway couldn’t win and was a failure until Terrell Davis arrived to give him a ground game. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Elway’s game, but he proves my point more than any other that you can’t win championships alone.

My only football disagreement w/ you is Elway as “failure” - he did go to 3 super bowls prior to winning a pair. Football is the ultimate team game - but that being said it is a small minority of teams that have had success w/o a “franchise” QB. Unfortunately for MV he is a black QB in the “new south” particularly in light of the fact he makes huge $. I am all for getting on him when he plays poorly - same as any starting QB you get all the blame and all the glory - but when you look at the Falcons you can not objectively state Vick is the weak link to the franchise. We need more columns to bash Price, Hartwell, and other big $ busts of recent vintage to play in ATL (if these in fact are necessary) - Hoping Abe doesn’t make this list. I am neither a Vick basher or “apologist” (I do love this term). I am, though, a season ticket holder and Vick fan. Maybe he will show enough in 2007 which is going to be a transition year to make people believe that this team will compete in 2008. If not, he will be gone and there will be a gigantic Salary Cap hit that will set the Franchise back several years AND we will be back to the hunt for the elusive franchise QB (which likely wasn’t Schuab).

To Eb Ony: Oh, yes. The black man is filled with rage. The whole world is against me. You see, I am that balck man that you refer to. I have breaking news for you: I’m not filled with rage. My life isn’t consumed by race. I didn’t make that an issue. Our founding fathers have to take credit for that. As for my other fellow minorities, many of them came over here on their own free accord. My ancestors did not. They were brought over here by force. They were told that they were 3/5th’s of a man. They were forced to work for free. They were subsequently freed. Then they found out that they still weren’t free. Jim Crow laws, the KKK, NAAWP, and other white supremacy groups made it painfully obvious that that was a lie. While white Americans were allowed to do whatever they wanted, my ancestors were restrained in their movement. Slowly but surely, the road blocks were removed. However, those with free rein had a significant headstart. Despite these road blocks, we pressed on often with a smile on our face. This smile was often confused for enjoying our position in life. We continue to smile and laugh despite the fact that we have to deal with insensitive people like yourself. Slavery doesn’t stop me in my tracks. I have pressed on and will continue to do so. I don’t want any money from you or anyone else. I prefer to make my own way in life. However, I find it very amusing that our government has apologized to every other group that they have done wrong. Black people are mysteriously missing from the list. That translates to you feeling that they aren’t significant enough to receive one. I have nothing but love for my fellow minorities. I don’t know where you got that from. Don’t assume that one black person speaks for us all. I take responsibility for my successes and my failures. Yet, I find it curious that black workers can be terminated much quicker for the same failures as a white person. You should take a step back and view the situation from a perspective other than your own. As for Vick, his off-field behavior doesn’t help his cause in the public eye. On-field, there are 10 other guys out there. The suggestion that he should be a running back leads credence to their argument. He’s been called too dumb to be a quarterback. What about Ryan Leaf, Heath Shuler or David Klinger? Were they too dumb to play quarterback too? Contrary to your beliefs, I don’t want one dollar from you or anyone else with your attitude. I’ve never gotten a free pass in my life nor have any black people gotten a free pass in America. You’ve done plenty criticizing of black people. Loud and obnoxious? I won’t even dignify that with a response. Cracker? I’m not even going to go there. Cracker can’t be a racial slur because it’s food. The n word doesn’t refer to food.

history has documented that white people have been slaves many, many times. they just chose to keep moving forward and not demonizing others as an excuse for failure and a generally horrible attitude toward others.

To Eb Ony: The savage beating that you are referring to occurred not too long after white police officers were acquitted of nearly beating Rodney King to death. If you want to complain about sweeping things under the rug, start there. They should have been found guilty. Basically you’re saying that it’s okay to beat black people half to death. But when it happens to you, action must be taken immediately.
To EW: Do you even realize how racist your last post is? Or you just don’t care? A Buckwheat skit?

ok,the n word can’t be consider a hate word or racial slur either, it refers to a country. well, that doesn’t make sense either, hate is hate, being a victim makes one a victim, equality is equal, and truth is a constant. black people today enslave themselves more than any group could ever enslave them.

WH, Let me clarify. By failure, I mean coming in second. If the Hall of Fame committee judges QB’s based on Super Bowls won, then… That’s all I mean. So we concur. Glad to have had this pleasant exchange. Have a great day and look forward to more chat in the future.

The Congress of the United States missed out when Mike got high and couldn’t make it. They would have been feelin’ him on the pertinent issue of after school muggings, armed robberies, drug addiction and other activities engaged in by black youth. They would have seen what he be sayin’ ‘bout the importance of putting tax dollars to work in developing the full potential of young, sooty criminals. Perhaps, along with debelopment of our young, black criminals, he could have lobbied for more free, gubment cheese. Maybe, they’ll have him back to speak about how he’s been wounded in the war on drugs. Tigger!

White slaves? Why don’t you tell me when and where? Not here. No one’s demonizing others here. I’m certainly not. However, I would be remiss if I allowed you to continue to bash an entire race of people that you probably haven’t bothered to get to know. Frankly you don’t care to. You seem content to make snap judgements about us. Finally, you must not know your American history all that well. Black people have pressed on and will continue to do so. Don’t expect them to be slapped in the face and just turn the other cheek. Black people are disrespected by every other race. I don’t have a horrible attitude towards others.

if we want equality we have to make things equal. can’t have any perks or special privileges. not only blacks, but women are a good example of someone asking for equality but wanting to be treated differently. if black people really wanted equality, they would never use the race card again. yeah, it won’t be easy, but it will get us a lot closer.

Every race can trace their roots back to slavery at some point in time. In today’s world and here in the ATL, we’re now all slaves to Vick’s salary and inability to throw the short pass or lead a team. We can’t afford to move him or let him go. Lord help us all!

As I stated before, I take responsibility for my place in life. Yes, the African-American community has it’s problems. Playing victim isn’t one of them. Having people unfairly rush to judgement about them is a problem. You have attempted to label an entire race of people without taking into consideration the history of blacks in America. You haven’t taken into account the individual. Based on your statements, I hate you. That isn’t the case. I’m just tired of having people bash me and my family. We’re all hard workers and proud Americans like yourself. I’m not looking for a handout. I make my own way in life, much like you have. I just ask that you not make such a snap judgement.

what happened to Rodney ‘I don’t get no respect’ King was a horrible thing on the same lines as Emmett Till. but two wrongs will never make a right and it’s time to stop all this racial crap. Vick isn’t bad quarterback because he’s black, he just can’t get the job done, and people who criticize him for that should be attacked racially for calling it like they see it.

From this point forward, after the last several posts, anyone who claims that primary reason Vick is hated in Atlanta ISN’T racism is officially blind. The DMV will be by shortly to revoke your licenses and distribute your parking passes. Lack of acceptance for the wrongs of the past and present are the primary reasons it exists today. We will never get along until we recognize this. By the way, the individuals who beat Reginald Denny were convicted. However, it was the victim himself who appeared at their sentencing hearing to plead for leniency (he’s a Christian man with compassion for fellow man). I applaud him because I couldn’t have done it.

Who cares, did we talk about the fact that a woman was raped at Patrick Kerney’s house 2 months ago. We did,for about 5 minutes.Vick has a “mysterious substance” in a water bottle andt it is front page news for 2 weeks. Bottom line, whatever was in the water bottle,or whatever happened with this flight fiasco….no one was hurt nor would they have been.I think the media in this town has too little to write about. Leave Vick alone, and trust me,I am no Vick fan….atleast he is not Pacman Jones.

White Slaves, see: , None of the above except maybe the vikings were white ( or what is known as Caucasian. You may want to re-enroll in 4th grade World History. To all who claim OUR ignorance, you may want to rediscover the TRUTH and try school re-enrollment also. I forgot, that’s part of the problem. All they teach in school is George Washington Carver and his peanut butter….

You’re right. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Given that statement, we shouldn’t allow injustice to stand. When it does, race becomes an issue. I hold out on condemning Vick’s on-field performance until I see him get an offensive line. His footwork is horrible mostly because he doesn’t trust his line. What would you do if just about everytime you dropped back to pass, a big hulking d-lineman was bearing down on you? I don’t think many of the posters on here would be worrying about their footwork.

Tell me, Queen. Is it because we “complain” about nothing? We were slaves a long time ago. Let that go, right? As for white slaves, they were enslaved. However, were their laws passed post-slavery to ensure their failure?

Dear King JEC IV and Straight$$$Homie:
Please, I beg of you two, PLEASE stop telling everyone how black you are. You guys are NOT exactly the “best & brightest” of my and our race.
Oh, King, people are making judgments and perceptions about you, your predjudices and intelligence because of your angry, ill-conceived words and half-baked arguments, NOT because of your race.
With all due respect, you jokers are not qualified to speak for the rest of us. I’m educated and (relatively) successful as well. However, truly intelligent and successful people, regardless of race, don’t have to tell others about it. This is especially true if your written communication is not capable of demonstrating all on its own.
Good Day, Gentlemen (and/or Lady, as the case may be).

King - There is no question that Vick rarely has time to throw. I go back and forth on your O-Line statement. Vick’s biggest problem is he is 6’0” (listed). Will he be able to see over 6’8” tackles and 6’5” guards? The success of Brees in NO leads me to believe he could but I still have questions about this. His footwork is a problem stemming from (I believe) the fact that his whole life he has known that if he doesn’t see an immediate read than he can out run anyone else. Age and the hits taken will force a concession to change this mindset (McNabb). Also, He really needs to consider secondary reads despite the fact that WR’s have been poor. Also - I am hopeful that Petrino brings 2 revolutionary new plays to the Falcon Offense - The screen and the swing pass to backs coming out of the backfield. I have not seen a designed pass to a back other than the short out to Griffin in at least 3 years.
