Today’s Final Four countdown
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Look for “The Countdown” in Stanley Cup, World Series and Alberto Gonzales editions in the coming months. Also try new “Diet Countdown.”
10: Let me just start by saying, having analyzed all four schools at the East Regional this past weekend, seeing the bottom-seeded Georgetown cheerleaders advance to the Final Four is quite a depressing development.
9: Yes, worse than Vanderbilt’s.
8: Thank goodness for the Final Four, conference championships and the Sugar Bowl two years ago. Otherwise, who knows when we might see another postseason game in the Georgia Dome.
7: From the “Wardrobe Malfunction” category of statements: When asked to explain the technical foul he assessed Georgetown coach John Thompson III, referee Curtis Shaw said: “It’s a bench decorum issue.” Personally, I liked this explanation better, from John Thompson The Elder: “I think John flashed back to his father for a minute. But I probably would’ve had three or four.”
6: For those who don’t think much of a team’s RPI, the Final Four’s respective rankings before the start of the tournament were first (Ohio State), third (UCLA), sixth (Florida) and ninth (Georgetown). Most important, my alma mater, Long Beach State, was 79th — and then got tattooed for 121 points by Tennessee.
5: Roy Williams. He just can’t win the big game. (Oh stop! I’m kidding. Kinda.)
4: Yes, it’s a wonderful warm-and-fuzzy story with the fathers and sons at Georgetown. But, seriously, I can’t remember when I saw a college basketball team have such an extended mind melt in an important game as North Carolina did Sunday.
3: The Hoyas weren’t happy with the officiating early, but the Tar Heels in fact were drawing fouls by driving to the basket and crashing the offensive boards. That disappeared late in the game, and it wasn’t merely because of the Hoyas’ defense. The Heels inexplicably started firing up jumpers from Neptune — and just missed Pluto, going 2-for-25 down the stretch and in overtime.
2: Gators fans will be happy to learn that Billy Donovan is only 11-1 odds to be the next Kentucky coach. Hey, wasn’t it not long ago when everybody wondered if Paul Hewitt was going to leave? There’s the primary indicator of your popularity level: No he’s-gonna-leave-us job speculation.
1: Still like Louisville over Carolina, and Florida over Kansas in the semis.

Welcome visitors to the wonderful State of Georgia… We certainly hope you have a pleasant and safe stay in our capital city… Presently you have just read a column by Jeff Schultz: our local newspaper’s resident NO TALENT HACK!!! A man with no real humor of his own, a living breathing anti Larry David… I guarantee you that sometime before you depart town next week, he will makeup evidence of some great conspriacy of ethics or criminal misdeed by someone in his column. Moreover, it he will generally run a “down low racist rant” against some minority player, coach, or administrator…
Again welcome to Atlanta and Georgia, they are not one in the same… Remember avoid Buckhead after 10 PM, water bottles with false compartments are available and should be used to protect your cash and bling, the cops sure won’t… Have a great time!!!
Oh by the way… FIRE JEFF SCHULTZ NOW!!!

In ten years, when he’s coaching Georgia St., people are going to be saying, “How in the Hell did Paul Hewitt ever get a team to a Final Four?”

This will be my first time in Atlanta, I’m going to see my beloved Hoyas for the Final Four.
JSS, is it true about these sports columnists and how apathetic they are? Also, does anyone know any good places to eat near the Georgia Dome? I’m looking forward to a great time!

They all mail it on daily basis, well except for the Hawks Beat writer Sekou Smith… He’s a bit too edge for my liking but he is certainly a talented writer and knows the league… Still Jeff Schultz is a truly sick man with issues that border on Mencken like contempt for his readers.
I’d truly hope you don’t limit your dining and visit to the Centennial Park/GA Dome areas, the best dining for non-residents can be found in VA-Highlands area (East of downtown near Carter Center)… There’s some nice places in Midtown (just behind Peachtree near Piedmont Park) and the new section of the triangle: Atlantic Station should keep you entertained safely… If you have GPS venture out to NW Fulton County to Vinings, try the Vinings Inn… Oh, if you some ducketts (money), try the Sunday Brunch at the Ritz-Carlton at Lenox Mall… Well worth the expense… Enjoy your visit!!!

The second day in a row where I see some cha-cha named JSS commenting about Jeff S. and the other writers in this newspaper. Seems to me he or she wouldn’t bother reading if he/she was so appalled by the writing. But that’s just me. Maybe its just jealousy?

Jason, there are several great places to eat near the Georgia Dome in Castleberry Hill, a 5 minute walk from the Dome - No Mas Cantina (Mexican) and Wasabi (Sushi). Ruth’s Chris Steak House is one block from the CNN Center and McCormick & Schmick’s is at the CNN Center. Great brunches can be had at Highland Bakery which is a quick drive from Dome/CNN Center area. Go to Google Maps - search “30313” or “30312” under “food” - lots of great choices. Welcome to Atlanta from a double HOYA.

It is definitely not jealously, but it is certainly a campaign to rid the AJC of Schultz… No one is telling you to join, but I will speak my mind, back it up with logical facts and let the chips fall where they may. Schultz has used his column on countless occasions to falsify and defame individuals in his venue. Having a column does not free one of basic responsibilities or the canons of the paper that employs him. He also a member of certain professional organizations that frown upon what his does. I don’t care if you’re name is Jeff Schultz, Bill O’Reilly, Cynthia Tucker, Rush Limbaugh, Terence Moore, Dan Patick, John Kincade, or John the Baptist, be man or woman enough to see when one has made a mistake, apologize for the action, and then certainly don’t keep repeating it… If you don’t understand that, well you’re certainly living in the right state for hiding one’s head in the ground and deflecting personal and social responsibility…

JSS is certainly full of (him)(her) self. I think Jeff Schultz has humor and morals. I have never read a “racist rant” by him.

For all of you Schultz defenders and apologists (and that a few), go over read Sekou Smith’s column and blog posted today… No silly defaming of barely adult cheerleaders, no undercover punches at the intellect of the reader, and more importantly no downright lies regarding the characters involved in what he opined.
A very smart man, Fred Friendly once told me that you read everything you can get your hands on, even if it is bad or falsely told, “How else can you learn to tell the truth from a lie? We educated you for a reason, that is all we can do! We trust that you will do what is right when it is time for you to use it!” Smoke that…

Hey JSS, If u don’t like Jeff Schultz, get off his column. If u are still angry about the Vivk column, go get a life and stay away from his column. It’s that simple. He gets paid to give his opinion. Sometimes we agree with him, sometimes we don’t.
Mail it in on a daily basis??? And u still read AJC on a daily basis. What a hypocrite.
