Storming the court’s prickly
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Those among the sellout crowd Tuesday night at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich., lost their minds after Michigan State’s basketball team upset No. 1-ranked Wisconsin and stormed the court.
Good thing Michigan State plays in the Big Ten. If the Spartans were in the SEC, they would get spanked any day now by the league with a hefty fine for not keeping their spectators under control.
Just ask Vanderbilt, which was zapped for $25,000 this week for violating the SEC’s “no-storming the court or the field” policy for a second time since its debut in December 2004.
Vanderbilt fans had stormed the court after their Commodores defeated then No.1-ranked Florida.
Who’s right? Is it the Big Ten for letting fans be fans, or is it the SEC for deciding to crack down on these traditional celebrations to protect the safety of both the participants and the spectators?
I’ll side with . . .
I don’t know.
Can’t we just all get along?

The on court celebration is fine until someone gets hurt or hurts somebody else.
My question is this. Who gets that excited about a mid season basketball game. It’s basketball people and except for the tournament its unwatchable!!
If they were playing in my backyard I’d shut the blinds!!

Storming the court is what makes College Bball great and different from boring NBA. Keep storming the court, and until the SEC starts fining the students, they won’t care if the school is out 25 grand. FYI the SEC is going to go down in a blaze of glory while the “down” Big 10 is gonna win it all.

Terence, Do you really get paid for showing up to work and posting a blog entry like this? “Hey, MSU stormed the floor. Isn’t that great? Or terrible? I just don’t know.”
How long did that take you? 30 seconds? 2 full minutes? What do you do with the rest of your day? Heck, Andy Rooney has more insightful things to say.

Storming the court is fine. Its not like we’re destroying anything while we’re down there. We just want to celebrate a big win with our players. The SEC can fine the school all they want. Its not like we care or are going to stop. In fact, as a UGA student, any 25 large that Mike Adams has to give up is an encouragement to storming the court.

I don’t see anything wrong with storming the court or tearing down the goal posts for that matter. It shouldn’t happen every game but if you’re unranked and you just beat the number one team in the nation that’s a pretty big deal. And it’s not about people getting hurt, it’s about people getting sued. But as far as that’s concerned, you give up your right to sue when you run out there. It should be officially against the rules but they should back off on the fines.

As a Badger fan, I am just glad to see that we have gotten to the point where the opposing fans rush the court when they beat us. Finally, the respect we so richly deserve.
