Shame on the Falcons’ head honchos

Terence Moore

Michael Vick got it right. The NFL also got it right. As a result, members of the Falcons’ ownership and management teams are looking ridiculous for getting it absolutely wrong regarding the Dirty Bird from their quarterback toward fans on Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

In case you haven’t noticed, members of those ownership and management teams have said nothing.

Not a word.

Nary a comment to the public such as “Michael Vick’s actions were totally inappropriate,” or “We respect the fans’ right to boo, and we want our players to feel the same way,” or “We assure you that this will never happen again.”

So much for a franchise that supposedly is “fan friendly,” as it likes to boast. This also is a franchise that is about to jack up prices on suites and club seats after making renovations to the dome. You would think that members of those ownership and management teams would be yelling from the corner of every Peachtree street and road about their disgust over the face of their franchise embarrassing himself and the entire organization.

Oh, well. To Vick’s credit, he followed an apology that he issued Sunday night through team officials with a news conference the next day to express his regrets. He sounded and looked sincere.

Then came the NFL’s punishment on Tuesday. According to ESPN, he was fined $10,000, twice the amount that Jake Plummer and Randy Moss received for similar gestures, and the league also requested that Vick give another $10,000 to his favorite charity.

Maybe the NFL should fine members of the Falcons’ ownership and management teams for silence.

Hell the league and falcons need to fine White for all those passes he dropped during the losing streak. Its safe to say if he would have caught half of the balls he dropped we would be atleast 7-4. We can not forget about Jenkins with his sorry A@#. I say lets throw it to Lelie and Crumpler 12 times a piece. We couldn’t do any worse.

You stupid feaking losers. Don’t you see where Terence is coming from? Let’s say one of you morons gives a customer the bird at work. Don’t you think your boss would have something to say about it? Don’t you think that the boss would apologize to the customer and tell them that your action is not representative of the company? Don’t you think the boss would tell the customer that you have been reprimanded and that it will never happen again? Yes, Vick apologized, as he should, but the boss hasn’t said a word to assure his customers that this is an aberration in his organization, that it was wrong, and that it shouldn’t be taken as sign of how he or the rest of his employees feel about them. It’s been painfully obvious for quite some time that Blank and Mora are SCARED TO DEATH of saying or doing ANYTHING that may offend his royal highness Michael Vick.

Of course, in defense of Blank and Mora: judging by the way Vick reacts to criticism, the QB does appear to have very thin skin, so perhaps he needs to have his butt kissed on a daily basis. (Jeff Schultz has been auditioning for that job for several years now.)

BTW, I get a kick out of all the people who keep saying it’s “time to move on” when it comes to Vick’s “dirty birds”.

I wonder where all of these people were when John Rocker, Rush Limbaugh, et al, made their “mistakes”.

Sorry folks, Mr. Moore is right. No matter how frustrated Vick gets, he was wrong and deserves to be be punished not only by the NFL, but by his team. Ben Wallace got reprimanded by the Bulls for wearing a headband! Tony Romo throws 5 TD’s and his coach publicly says he still isn’t impressed. Jake Plummer takes his team to a winning record and gets benched! Why do we hold Vick to a lower standard to the rest of the sports world? he got fined twice as much as Plummer because he threw 2 birds! AND he cussed like a thug on the corner. It was sad and unexplainable. Between that and the wayhe has played, he deserves to sit for at least one game, and if a backup QB gets us a win, he should sit again. As a city, we should demand that our QB be held to the same standard as every other sports figure, on and off the field. It’s time for Vick to clean up his act or go somewhere else.

By Bill

November 29, 2006 11:30 AM | Link to this

I think they did the right thing by not coming out publicly on what Vick did. They know he was wrong and Vick knows he was wrong. They are not going to come out and say that in public. I do think $20K is way way to small of fine. He is paid how much? Vick probably laughed and said here you go. Here is my fine. I got 100 mill more what is 10K. I think the fine should have been a percentage of his pay. maybe it would have meant something.

By EDH

November 29, 2006 11:33 AM | Link to this

I can see where frustration can cause anyone loose their cool. So be it that it happened to Vick. He is human. What the NFL needs to be doing is getting tough on the NFL players that are driving drunk, using drugs, and assaulting people on the streets, instead of charging players 20k on the extention of a middle finger.

By Dirty Dawg

November 29, 2006 11:34 AM | Link to this

You see the league treats these things like ‘The Price Is Right’…you don’t want to ‘go over’ the previous price (aka fine) by too much cause then you don’t know just how high is up. The previous $10K fines were based on a single ‘bird’ being ‘flipped’ by Moss and/or Plummer. This time Vick blasted ‘em with both hands, so you see it indeed merits a $10K for each hand, but, in the interest of ‘incrementalism’, the second ten goes to a charity of his choice - see how logical it all is. And as for the Falcons management, they’re too dumb to know when to go public about anything - except when it’s the coach’s daddy, of course.

One more point I want to make. Since Vick took over as QB, the Atlanta Falcons have used close to 20 WR’s. None of them has ever had 100 catches in a season or played particularly well on a consistent basis. Now…is it more likely that all of them sucked or that we have a QB that just isn’t capable of making receivers better?

Vick went on HBO and said he wishes he had a WR like a Marvin Harrison. if you look at the stats, before the arrival of Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison was an average receiver. Reminiscent of a Falcons WR. Just this past week, it was reported that Marvin asked Peyton to tone down their pre-game workouts because he is often too tired to play a full game. Peyton works him to death! The man is obsessed with winning. When Peyton doesn’t score or throws an interception, he comes back to the sidelines and consults his Offensive Coordinator. Going over pictures and plays to see where he went wrong. Vick goes back to the bench, sits down, and puts on his stocking cap. Does the man even watch film?

Look, QB’s make great Recievers. Not the other way around. if you want a Mavin Harrison type receiver, how about creating one? Spend a little time with your receivers in the off season and maybe you will have that kind of success.

I”m still shocked by the whole situation. I watched the game and Mike was the only bright spot. I was really upset with Mike and the fan’s when I say what happened later. Mike seem’s to keep his cool when R. White and Co. drop his passes. I live out of state and have to listen to all the crap when we loose now I’m having to listen to all this crap about what Mike did and for some reason I feel ashamed for it. I do love the Falcon’s dearly and take it hard when we don’t win. Mike even made it to the Jay Leno show as the butt of one of his joke’s. This to me rank’s right up there with the little thing our D.B. did the night before the Super Bowl. With all the crap we got going on with this team do we need anymore. I will still watch the rest of the season and root for my team, I just hope Mike can recover he is the face of our team and I want so bad for him and the team to do well. You know we are still in this all we can do is our best and win each week and let the chips fall wher they may.

My problem with Vicks actions, is the kids that see him do that and think its okay to act so unprofessional and careless. Kids look up to him and think because he did that, they can too.

I think Vick is a ball hog and continues to look like so every sunday. And Blanks needs to stay out of the limelight and in the office where he belongs. The sports world doesnt need another George Steinbrenner. I will give Vick this, they need to let him call audibles and be done with it.

There goes another Payton Manning fan trying to compare Vick to Payton. Vick and Payton are twn different kinds of QB. First of all Payton got a great OL and Vick have…well nothing. And besides, a receiver is a receiver - he is suppose to catch balls that hit him in the hands…simple as that. When you are a first round draft pick and making big bucks, no one should have to make you a better receiver - you should work on that yourself…that’s why they pay you big time money.

Maybe if all those offended by MV’s “bird” stayed away a clear message would be sent! These players should be fined made to sit out a game or two and if I had my way kicked off the team… There are plenty of good players that never get the lucky break to play and possibly shine in the big leagues! And I say lucky break because often times that is exactly what they need! Ask Tiki Barber!! He got the chance only because of an injury to a player on his team and look how well he has done! There are more deserving players waiting on the sidelines for their chance at the big leagues. Players need to understand that the fan booing or heckling is the person paying his salary! NO fans no $$ something some of these highly overpaid prima Donna so called athletes might want to remember! SO suck it up and act like a man, you play badly expect a few jeers! Play well expect to get accolades, but just because you are a NFL player does not give you the right to expect cheers when you have played poorly! Or act like a hoodlum! All parents whose kids wear #7 should be ashamed of themselves as that is not the example you want your children to emulate EVER! Flip the seven and you will get the real symbol MV should be wearing an L for Looser!

I am glad he remained calm during the game itself (unlike Crumpler) but think an after game explosion was due.

Real Truth…

Sorry…. but I think you’ve got it all wrong. Receivers make great quarterbacks. Granted, Michael Vick won’t ever be mistaken for Unitas (who had Berry and Mackey and Orr), Tittle (who had Shofner, Rote and Schnelker), Montana (who had Rice), Elway (although, if you recall, there was time when Denver fans were calling for his head)or Namath (who had Maynard and Sauer), etc. Look at the catches these guys made ona routine basis. Look at the catches Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Chad Johnson and others routinely make. If you’ve been viewing NFL highlights, how can you be so blind as to not see quality receivers make catches for their QBs that no Falcon receiver (OK maybe Crumpler on a good day) ever makes? The strategy of opposing teams has been to take away Crumpler and see if anyone else can make a catch. Obviously, they can’t. People have forgotten how well Vick threw the ball under Reeves. If Trevor Gaylor could catch a Vick pass, why can’t Jenkins, Lelie or White? C’mon…he puts two passes in White’s bread basket and he drops them. A perfectly thrown ball to Jenkins over the middle that he drops that one. Must do a lot for a QBs confidence. Hell, I’d pull it down and run, given the choice between that and throwing to one of thoise guys. If those, and other catches get made you have a completely different ballgame. Unfortunately for a QB, it all comes down on him. A lightning rod for fan fury. Not right that he flipped the bird. But in a human context (lest we forget that we are humans and when was the last time you shot a bird at someone in Atlanta traffic), perfectly understandable, albeit unaccecptable.

Michael shouldn’t have been fine that much. Fans mostly go to the games to see him anyway, so that should be a plus for the team because they aren’t that great. Why crucify the money maker, for petty stuff. $1000 fine would have been appropriate.

By Trouble Ahead

Mr. Blank missed a great opportunity with this one. Given that the season being logically over, Mr. Blank could have used Sunday’s debaucle to let the fans know they are still important and to help the team plan for the future. He should have suspended Vick for a game- telling Vick that he had no other option. That would have allowed the team to see what Matt Schaub is capable of providing against Washington without offending Vick. He should have also terminated Greg Knapp but that is a whole different issue.

I am a Club Level season ticket holder and will be livid if the price of my tickets gets jacked up in the offseason. Based on what I have seen on the field, prices should go lower.

Mr. Blank, if you want to improve the GA Dome forget upgrading Club Level lounges. Instead, upgrade the large screen displays in either endzone and add a screen that keeps fans continually up to date on games that are going on.

Kew,

Name me one receiver that ever became great on his own? Great receivers have great QB’s that they establish a relationship, a rapport with. Last Sunday, Braylon Edwards and Charlie Frye had a blow up on the sideline because of a miscommunication that led to an interception. I would like to see that kind of passion about the game from Vick and his receivers. It’s like they barely know eachother. And maybe if #7 hadn’t missed so many voluntary workouts, they would. Everybody keeps “Vick is human.” “Some of us throw the finger every day.” But you have to realize that Vick is not being compared to any of us. he is being compared to every other QB in the league, who except for Plummer, show class and poise. We have to compare him to McNabb, Palmer, Brady, Manning, Young, Leinart, Leftwich, Eli, Campbell, Romo, McNair, and whoeevr else is out there, and compared to all of them, he looks like real trash. That’s the bottom line people. I watched Drew Brees make two unknown receivers look like stars last week. Henderson and Cooper weren’t even first rounders. Now please tell me why, in 6 years, Vick has never made one receiver look good. Not one! I ask you again, is it the close to 20 Receivers that we have had since 2001, or is it Vick?

atheletes are people not emotionless machines. i dont believe fans have the right to say what they want to them. vick is the only falcon that produced on sunday, receivers dropped passes that were on the numbers. i say the first thing we need to get rid of in atlanta are all these fair weather friends and trade them for some green bay fans, im sure they would appreciate a warm facility and quarterback that gives all he has. one man cant when a game. i would have flipped them off to after knowing i just gave all i had, check the stats

Kahuna51,

The AMAZING year of passing Vick had that you are speaking of, was 2002. His passer rating was 81. That’s average and it’s the highest passer rating he has ever achieved. That year, there were 17 QB’s with a higher rating. 17!!! Including such has-beens as Jay Fiedler, Tommy Maddox, Brian Griese, and Jeff Garcia. Wake up man, Vick has never really been very effective as a passer.

Mr Moore, I agree with Mr. Blanks’s stance on leaving it to Michael Vick to resolve this issue. Vick was unprofessional and he needs to take the responsibility and deal with the issue himself. Vick apologized and he’s already paying the fine. Nothing else needes to be done my the owner. Stop stirring the pot and let’s move on. There’s other things to worry about such…winning some games.

I think NFL should just have players sit one game with no pay for gestures that Vick did. This way it will satisfy the people that were “offended” and think that $20k is too less and give the player a good lesson. Oh and if that happened the Schaub fans would get there wish too. I quoted “offended” because I don’t think anyone is offended anymore by getting the bird. It was three days ago. If you can stay offended for that long you need to see a shrink or have some other kind of therapy. Get over it people and go to work. Damn lunch time is over got to go.

I believe the $20,000 fine should go to the Falcons season ticket holders as a partial refund. What do you all think about that? Its not much, but for every fine, it should be divided equally to all season ticket holders. It can hold down on the cost for higher ticket prices for 2007!

This incident will not affect Vick much because Vick already took himself out of the superstar limelight. A few years ago, Mike was featured in national commercials (Mike Vick Experience, atc.) and now you rarely see him on TV locally. This is because the hype is over and the reality has set in. Vick is not the player that Nike, the NFL, and the Falcons thought he would become. He is an average QB on an elite QB’s salary.

Michael Vick was only showing his true roots. When the going gets tough, Michael unfortunately has shown he can not hold it together. Some Real Truth,

What else can Vick do to his receivers besides hit him in the chest? The Falcons lead the league in dropped passes. If I was Vick, I wouldn’t throw the ball at all. He’s not the most accurate QB, everybody knows that, but it’s a receivers job to catch balls. Period. Vick is playing MUCH better as a QB this season(BTW he worked dilligently in the OFFSEASON with his receivers this year) and his receivers reward him by constantly dropping passes that hit them in the hands. That is a lack of concentration and leads directly to the coaches whose job it is to make sure that players are ready to play on Sundays. This staff has failed miserably at that.

Let me see Vick flips off a bird and it is worst thing some of you on this blog has ever seen. Well I guess some of you do not go to the games because you can hear some of the most fowl language coming from these same fan that claim the bird was the worst thing they have ever seen.

To the fan that said QBs make receiver.. Look at all the great and not so great QBs in the league and I can bet you the one thing they all have in common is that their WRs caught the ball went it was thrown to them. ALL QBS MAKE BAD THROWS SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF A GAME! IF THEY DIDN”T YOU WOULD NOT SEE ALL OF THE GREAT CATCHES! SF “The Catch” not the throw but the catch.

None of you know Vick personally, so stop judging someone you do not know. Like JC said “Pull the plank out of your own eye first”

i’m sure a community-oriented owner like blank is thrilled to have sunk so much guaranteed money into vick. first the ron mexico stuff; now this.

get it thru your heads, atlanta…mike vick stinks. he’s been in the league six years and can barely complete 50% of his passes. sure, the receivers aren’t good, but the majority of the time, vick isn’t accurate. he has 2 (count ‘em) 200 yard passing games this year. zero 300 yard games. 25th rated passer in the league, with a rating of around 70. when it comes to tossing the rock, he’s performing as well as joey harrington, jake plummer, bruce gradkowski, and ben roethlisberger, all of whom have been terrible. no decent quarterback in the league can lose to detroit and cleveland in successive weeks and look as bad as vick.

so sad…the falcons could have had tomlinson if not for that trade. he’s a better runner and passer than vick. think what LT could do behind that zone blocking scheme…

Real Truth:

Make no mistake…I certainly am not confusing Michael Vick with Johnny Unitas…or Donovan McNabb, for that matter…or Randall Cunnignham. But to your bottom line…receivers catch balls. When the money was on the line, Vick delivered the balls to his receivers. They didn’t catch the ball.

Don;t recall insinuating that he had an AMAZING year under Reeves. But he won. Up until last season, he continued to win. And the Falcons would’ve made the playoff last year if they’d been able to play defense.

BTW..were you watching the same game I was? The big difference was that Brees’ receivers got separation, he got time and they CAUGHT THE BALL when he delivered it.

By the way…name me one quarterback who was great without a receiver? Recall the catch Dwight Clark made for Montana in the playoffs against Dallas? Tell me a great receiver doesn’t make a difference.

Moore, why do you hate the Falcons? Why on Earth can’t you ever write a positive article about this team? On Sports Final before the season you called the Falcons “a despicable and disgusting organization” … do you remember? You were crying because the “Honchos” wouldn’t tell you about Crumpler’s off-season surgery. Boo-hoo-hoo, has it occurred to you that the Falcons are snubbing you and the jerks at WSB-TV? Duh! Anne Cox-Chambers should have you and your sidekick, (that pencil-necked Chuckie Dowdle) downstairs bundling newspapers so the two of you could whine and cry all day about the Birds while you work. You are a disgrace to the City of Atlanta. Vick has apologized so let it go. Mr. Blank & Company owe you NOTHING. Get over it and move along. 20,000 is way too low. It should have been “an example” to other players that this type of behavior is not and will not be tolerated by the general public and fans. I think it should be at least $200,000.00. Make him, and other players think before they do something like shoot a bird at fans, especailly with tv cameras everywhere. Oh, by the way, good luck selling the renewals on the luxury suites, because the fans and sponsors that can afford the suites are the people that do not tolerate such behavior from professional athletes. See how much the ticket prices go up next year when the suites are half empty. Goodbye Vick and hello to $125.00 upper deck endzone single game tickets.

I just need one person with some guts to respond to my comment instead of repeating the same thing. Why is it that in 6 yrs, and 20 WR’s, Vick has never been able to find ONE that is consistent. Is it the Receivers or is it him? You see, Vick seems to have this attitude that all he has to do is step on the field every week and throw the ball and the receiver should catch it. If that were the case people, the game would be easy. QB/WR duos work because the players put in the timing. They get their timing down, their signals, the unspoken language that says “I’m going to get open! trust me and throw it to me!” Vick and his Receivers don’t have that because he does not put in the time. An AJC article written earlier this year reported that Vick’s receivers were in mini-camp working with with Schaub because Vick chose not to come. It takes more than just throwing the ball to be an effective QB. It takes hard work, smarts, passion, leadership. All of which Vick has none. he doesn’t study plays, he doesn’t know his reads, he doesn’t watch film, he doesn’t know where to line up. The playbook has been re-written and simplified for him twice that I can remember and he still can’t get it. it’s just not working.

Listen to what he said after the game: “I’m doing everything I can out there. Guys need to step up and start catching the ball.” Message to Vick, it’s not about YOU. You can play your a* off every Sunday. if you can’t figure out how to help your teammates elevate their leel or play, or don’t feel like you have to, you’ll never be a winner. You’re the QB my friend. Like it or not, it’s all on you.

Some real truth, First of all Drew Brees had more than enough time to find and throw to an open receiver. Put Brees and all of those other QBs behind out OL and you will see that they will not make no receiver look good because they would get killed wait for a receiver to run his route. All of the great QBs you mentioned would not be so great if they was rushed and hurried like Vick is every week. One other thing is that defenses play Vick different than they play Payton, Brees, Elway, Brady and other because of Vick’s ability to run and throw. Defenses pactice all week to defense Vicks. Defenses goal is to stop one person on the Falcons and that’s Vick. I’ve looked at every game the Falcons have played this year and everytime Vick take a snap from the center the defense is bearing down on him. Bree, Payton, Brady never have that kind of pressure. WE NEED OFFENSIVE LINEMANS. And for as our receivers PLEASE CATCH ROUTINE BALLS!!! What I’m really saying is if you put any great QB behind out OL they would get killed and wouldn’t complete nowhere near the passes that they complete - Vick runs because he has to protect himself (run for his life). Other QBs don’t.

He’s not a FIELD GENERAL, which is a necessary component all great quarterbacks have. He needs GET THIS TEAM BACK ON TRACK. However, since he has absolute and complete job security, there’s not motivation for him to put forth the extra effort to become a great quarterback. That’s why he doesn’t have the freedom to audiblize. Apparently, he doesn’t want to do it or can’t do it —- but, in either case, if he gets crammed on a play, IT’S NOT HIS FAULT!

Seems to me that when Arthur Blank made such a big deal in signing Vick to a multi-year contract, he seemingly decided to build the team around Vick - something that has apparently not worked. Seems also that Mora’s hands are tied when it comes to Vick - in other words, play the hand that’s dealt. Finally, seems that before any sports team coach, manager, or owner, makes a move in regards to his team, he should check with the AJC first, to make sure that they approve. As a matter of fact, that probably needs to extend to politicians, too.

No one is answering you because your comments are stupid. Crumpler and Finneran have no problems catching Vicks throws. In fact, Crumpler has been to 3 Pro Bowls by catching Vicks passes. You must be a first year Falcons fan.

Vick spent plenty of time in the offseason working with his receivers. You’ve chosen to forget or ignore those articles.

Michael Vick accounted for over 250 yards by himself last week. He’s the only player who came to play.

What do you have to say about the play of Atlanta’s Defense? You can obviously only blame one person for why an entire team plays pathetically. That, my friend, falls on the shoulders of coaching.

OK Mike Forgiven and Forgotten.

There has been worst!!

Kenny Rogers shoved two cameramen, knocking a camera to the ground. One of the reporters then resumed filming and Rogers shoved him again, this time kicking the camera after it had been knocked to the ground a second time. He had to be restrained and was sent home.

The following year…

Rogers pitched his way to his first postseason win pitching 7 2/3 scoreless innings, with 8 strikeouts in a 6-0 Tigers victory against the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Division Series.

There has been worst!!

Ray Lewis’ public image was briefly tarnished following a Super Bowl party on 31 January 2000, when he was arrested for the murders of two young men. The two men were stabbed and killed outside a nightclub during a fight.

To have murder charges dismissed, Lewis pled guilty in a bargain to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.

The following year….

Lewis won Super Bowl XXXV MVP honors, Defensive Player of the Year honors, 1st team All-Pro honors by AP, and a unanimous All-Pro selection in 2000. He also started in the Pro Bowl.

This could be just the thing that in a very unexpected way makes this team great.

The fans were not bad mouthing Vick, it was HIS TEAMATES.

Think about it, even though they let him down big time,he had their backs.

That is TRUE LEADERSHIP!!

It also tells me more about the MAN than the quarterback.

Like I said yesterday I’m ready to run thru that brick wall for Mike!

I’m challenging the rest of the team to show MIKE you got his back by shutting up and getting it done!

Being a LEADER just cost him $20,000. How about the rest of the team repaying him with blood ,sweat, tears, whatever it takes.

I think Mike deserves no less!!!

I think Mr.Blanks is correct in his respond. He has a whole lot more to concern himself with than apologizing for Vick. (It could be argued that Blanks is the face of the franchise…. How many NFL owners do you see regularly on the sideline(besides that guy in Dallas, New Orleans, and Oakland) His head coach addressed the issue,”Now let’s let well enough alone”. “Mr. Blanks, Please find us a couple of good offensive lineman and two receivers who can catch the ball?”

Baloney, Truth.

Quite the contrary with respect to Vick’s leadership…the larger problem has been that his teammates have come to expect HIM to make every big play himself, much as he did Sunday. Now THAT may be an issue. Say what you will, I have seen few QBs who can match this guy for sheer guts. Maybe not smarts. But the dude lays it on the line (and yeah, on the ground from time to time) every week. The shots he took last week delivering some of thosee passes that were dropped were simply incredible.

In answer to your question…Finneran and Crumpler have consistently caught balls for Vick over the last few years. My question to you is, who are the qualty receivers he’s had to throw to? Peerless Price?

He will not be treated like the average athlete. He is bigger than life, bigger than the falcon team, bigger than the fans or coaching staff and even bigger than the owner. He is the meal ticket for the brass and there is no way they will bite the hand that feeds them. Vick is here to stay and will do and say and ACT just like he wants to, anytime he wants to. I hope you have figured that out after 6 years. The bottom line is will he be his own self-destruction; that is usually what happens to athletes that are overpaid, placed beyond their mental or physical capacities. For now, settle down and hope he can improve and not regress further. On to the Superbowl!

Why I asked him why he thinks that he said. “Watch an interview with Vick and you will see. He doesn’t talk like Manning, Brady, and Roethlesberger”

So basically if you dont’ talk like those people then you are a gang leader and have a rap album in the eyes of the Great John from Dunwoody. He was totally exposed as a blogger and has now accepted the role of heckler. It’s a little more fitting for you anyways. I do appreciate the attention though. dirrtybird,

No I am not a first year Falcons fan. I am a long time fan of Sports and I know my Sports. You say, Finneran has no problem catching Vick’s balls. I disagree. While he has been semi-productive as a third-down possesion receiver, overall his stats are lackluster. his best season, 2002, coincidentally Vick’s best season too, he had 56 catches and 6 TD’s. Since then, 26, 23, and 50 catches respectively, with 6 total TD’s in those 3 years. Crumpler, while a fairly proficient TE has never had more than 65 catches in a year, that being last year. In previous years, he was in the 30’s and 40’s. While Crumpler and Finneran are clearly fan favorites because of their personality and heart, they aren’t nearly as talented as other players in the league who play the same position, and Vick isn’t a strong enough quarterback to make them better. Hell, Finneran isn’t even the best Receiver on this team!

come with some better facts than that. I’ll say it again. Vick has never made another player better like the great ones do. And he has never done anything more than win that one playoff game at Green Bay everybody keeps referring to.

dirrty bird: you seem like a fairly intelligent person.. and after reading all 500 of your posts it reminds me of myself.. when it was like my mission to defend mike vick when it came to anything and everything. but it’s time to wake up my friend. you obviously have a enormous man crush on mike vick which is fine.. but you can’t continually make excuses and minimize every mistake he makes.

you make it seem like mike vick flipping off fans is a trivial matter. you are wrong. obviously the nfl with it’s fine REALLY disagrees with you. mike vick is the face of this franchise, maybe even the face of this city! with greatness comes great responsibility. when mike vick flipped off fans it really disappointed me in that it showed me he’s not ready to be great. he’s not ready to assume responsibility. he’s not ready to be a leader. i’m not perfect either… but i don’t get paid 100 mil dollars to represent a organization.

at a certain point in life, one is given a choice to either grow up or continue being an immature, petulant, little brat. mike vick has hit that crossroad and through his actions this season (interview on HBO, flipping off fans, way too sensitive - about coach mora’s fathers comments- are you kidding me?) has shown me he’s not ready to grow up. i still like mike vick and if he can turn things around next week i’ll be right back defending him.. but it’s his actions that have disappointed me even more than his inconsistent play.

dirrty, you can make all the excuses you want. but the teams perfomance is ultimately tied to mike vick. you can defend him all you want. but if the team under performs the responsibility has to be shared by the starting qb.

Some distorted truth,

Where does Crumpler rank among receptions for a tight end? I honestly dont’ know. The Falcons are a running team. Of course the recievers catches aren’t going to be as high as throw first teams like Philly and Indy. Your challenge was to name one receiver who can catch Mike’s balls and I named two. Alge didn’t go to the Pro Bowl because he was a good blocker. He goes because he’s one of the best receiving tight ends in the game of football. Catching passes from Mike Vick nonetheless.

“Vick has never made another player better.” hmmmmm. I believe that Warrick Dunn totaled a career high in yardage last year? You think those running lanes are open when Matt Schaub is in the game? Nobody told you that Atlanta is leading the league in rushing for the 3rd straight year? I’m sure the Falcons still do that with Schaub in the game anyways though right?

Bobby, Make all the excuses you want but he has A QB rank of 37th this week and looks worse than that. Sure there are some drops as well as we dont have the best OL in the league but Vick makes more stupid mistakes by himself than the rest of the team combined. There are way more bad passes from him than there are drops! Believe what your eyes are seeing he really, truly, beyond a shadow of a doubt sucks as an NFL QB. Sorry to burst your bubble I mean hell I wanted him to be great also but I am a realist and I am over him. He needs to sit and give DJ or Matt a shot. They may not have Manning like stats either but at least they wont give scores to the other team, flip off thier fans and cut down thier own team mates.

GASP! For the first time ever I am in complete agreement with a T. Moore opinion. Arthur Blank not addressing this, in my opinion, is the equivalent to Mora hitting his knees after the Roddy White drop. He has done everything he possibly can with this current incarnation of the Falcons and yet they still are floundering and flipping off fans. I expect major changes after this year and a move in a different direction on several levels. If this was one of his Home Depot managers Vick would’ve been fired on the spot.

I certainly hold Mike Vick responsible. He needs to get better. No doubt about it. He needs to be more accurate. However, do you blame Mike Vick when Deangelo Hall receives penalty after penatly? Do you blame Mike Vick when the Saints score a Hail Mary touch down to end the half? Do you blame Mike Vick when Baltimore has 185 yard on 3 kick returns, and the coach is too stupid to say “kick the ball out of bounds”? My point is that when an entire team plays bad, you’ve got a coaching problem.

BTW, by the length of your post, I can see that you have a man crush on me. I’m flattered. I may get a new outfit.

You can Vick sucks all you want. but when you start getting into words like “Thug/gangster/rapster” then the line of ignorance has been crossed, and I’m just teeing off all day on people who can’t see a perspective outside of their own.

Honest_abe. . do you honestly think that Mike Vick drew up that play in the red zone where he throws a fade to Dwayne Blakely? Do you think he wants to run the same play to Warrick Dunn 3 times in a row and 40% of the game? Greg Knapp is the name you’re looking for.

only the most unknowledgeable of fans will blame an entire team’s shortcomings on playcalling. I waste my time with them because that’s what the majority of Falcons fans are. Fair weather, Ignorant(both black and white), and the worst fans in the NFL.

Only the most unknowledgeable of fans blames an entire teams short comings on the QB.

Greg Knapp is a career middle of the road coordinator. His QB’s are not even allowed to audible out of obvious blown plays before the ball is snapped. Neither Schaub or Vick can audible.

Jim Mora does not even have to balls to discipline his QB for flipping the bird or his Cornerback for leading the team in penalty yardage, and being involved in every fight skirmish there is to be had. He calls that “Athletic Arrogance”. I call that costing your team. I think Vick was stupid for doing what he did. I dont’ think he should be crucified to death by a bunch of NASCAR watching fair weather fans. I think it is the coaches responsibility to discipline him and our coach is not capable of that. He wants to be their buddy instead of putting a foot up their a$$. Vick has been allowed to make too many mistakes. That’s poor coaching. What kind of coach says “I’m not going to tell Mike to tuck the ball and protect it when he’s running.”?

That my friend, is poor coaching.

when I can sit at home and predict at least 40% of our offensive play calls, how many do you think a real DC can predict? Then you dont’ allow your QB to audible. The play has failed before the ball has even been snapped. No worries, we’ll run the exact same play next down. They’ll never expect that!

Terrence,

Good article. I agree SOMETHING should have been said!!! The fine is nothing, just a deterrent to others from making the same “mistake” since the lower fines did nothing….. MV7 knows he made a mistake, so do most everybody else, but it is just being blown too out of proportion to the REAL ISSUE: the FALCONS are playing bad ball…. MV7 could have been pulled after the last score by the Saints with 2:29 to play….they could have put Shockley in to have a sanity chek on the receivers in real time……but NOOOOOOOOOO, that would be sending the wrong message about MV7?????????

Hey Boots, You said: “If Vick doesn’t step up and take control of HIS team, it’ll just confirm what I’ve thought for quite a while: He’s all HAT and no CATTLE! Adios!” Gee, when did Blank hand over the deed dude???

Hey Some Real Truth,

I agree…..I have said that in all my blogs where others have blamed the receivers for not catching (you probably don’t remember.) There are dropped balls in EVERY game around the league…I’ll admit, a couple were pretty bad on Sunday, but I feel that is because the whole team is under a microscope. Every play is being watched….the players know it, the coaches know it and Blank knows it…….

Hey dirrtybird,

You said: “Michael Vick accounted for over 250 yards by himself last week. He’s the only player who came to play”

Dang, those are strong words. Gee, I thought there a bunch of other Falcons on the field while MV7 was runnin’ around and poppin’ a few passes!!!! Maybe I was imagining them????? Nope, checked my game film….Dunn scored a TD and Anderson kicked 2 FGs and an extra point!!! Hey!!! McCrary and Griffith caught 33% of MV7’s completed passes!!! Maybe we should pass to the FBs???? The are not afraid of getting hit (like you know who looking over his shoulder instead of concentrating on the catch, which is basic football.)

Flannel 5, your comment was good. but there is a unique part to the equation. if i walked in publix and started yelling at the guys in the produce section that they sucked or went into best buy and started throwing stuff at the cashiers, chances are i might get something worse than a bird from an aggravated employee, and i doubt the company would apologize for it….. but your point is well taken and it is humorous that Arthur Depot is raising prices. talk about whistling past the graveyard. to all the “dump vick” crowd, get real. its a whole lot easier to bring in another bonehead coaching crew, and for that matter a GM who actually knows what he’s doing, then it is to bring in a huge talent like #7. yeah, he screws up (don’t we all..) and yeah he’s overpaid (like about half of us), but he brings something to the table very few do. if he had receivers who weren’t barking dogs w/ fleas, we’d probably all be in football heaven. People question his intelligence becuase he hesitates. i think he does it for 2 reasons - 1) he knows who he’s throwing to 2) his feet are a viable option. if his receivers had any talent, they would break their routes and get to open areas when he scrambles. i think we should start looking at Vick’s total yards per game- both running and passing - as the measure of his performance. for him, running 50 yards is just as good as a long pass, and a lot of fun to watch….

I like what one blogger said yesterday that if someone cuts you off in traffic you might give them the bird but any ordinary Joe at work couldn’t do the same to a rude customer without fear of being fired. Authur Blank wouldn’t let one of his Home Depot employees get away with it, why ahould it be any different in sports? The fact is sports figures are treated as Prima Donna’s. THey shouldn’t be, but they are.In reality we all lose our temper from daily frustrations, but for us average guys we just have to control ours.

You non fotball people want to fault 1 man for a team that sucks. Vick played his butt off Sunday to give the team a chance to win.

People that want Vick to play understand that he has no support. If the Falcons give Vick quality receivers and an offensive line then Vick goes out and plays like Farve with 4 int’s in a game then most people will see no problems in benching the man. But he has never had any talent around him.

Hey TTCO, The reason why Vick can pass so good is that he can at anytime break out on a long run. The opposing defenses have a tough time on this and they are always trying to eliminate the run. This gives Vick the opportunity to be the great passer that he is. That guy can accurately throw a catchable football to anyone on the team. This is why he is so good.

Darn this is too fun. Some thoughts:

  1. Just because you bought a Vick jersey for you kid doesn’t mean Vick owes you anything. Be a role model for you kids YOURSELF and stop expecting others to do that for you.

  2. Does anyone have an audio tape of what was actually said that made Mike throw up not one but two middle digit salutes? I’ve read everything from “it was hugely racist” to “all it was was Vick you suck”…unless someone has an audio tape, it’s all just spin…

  3. My coworkers and I are excited because now we can say “flick ‘em a Vick” and know EXACTLY what’s meant w/o being too explicit in front of others…

  4. This is unrelated to the bird, but just for even more fun - has anyone else noticed that after a fan blogged about it a couple of games ago, all of a sudden Mora has started actually wearing a headset on the sidelines? Like he’s trying to be a real coach?

So what’s your vote, in his headset is Mora listening to

I know that most everyone has given someone the finger before. I also know some of us have fumbled or dropped passes when playing sand lot ball. But I bet none of were being paid millions when we did it. Management or owner needs to look closely at the Falcons. Usually when teams lose, jobs are at stake. Looks like the Head Coach could put the other quarterback in when Vick having a bad day (nearly every game). Or maybe management could look at a coach that would do that. Does management know No. 8 is still on the team? I wonder if he has enough class not to flip someone the finger when the team plays so poorly and the fans verbalize what every fan is feeling.

How long will it be before team management figures out that it has a loser. Moras father already said Vick was an incosistent passer,he is also an incosistent winner. The Falcons are too hyped up to win. when they settle down and stop thinking that Vick is the eighth wonder of the world and they are the greatest thing since apple pie they might be able to play football, but I really think they need to evaluate their players, all of them, and replace them if they have to, but don’t replace them with children that can’t express themselves any other way except with vulgarity. In fact, I think he and De-blabbalo Hall should have a race at halftime this sunday. The falcons are history so we might just as well enjoy this guy running all over the place. I hope they don’t put Schaub in; he does not deserve this mess. Hopefully he can get out of this town and start for a good team. What a travesty to lose Schaub on the bench while this circus goes on week after week. But it is fun to watch Vick run; it doesn’t matter if we win. Do y’all agree with Yanni?

Vick’s development would be greater if McKay and Blank would decide to protect their investment. Protecting their investment means not sheilding him from the media as you guys seem to think that they do. It means getting him the protection that the Tom Bradys, Peyton Mannings, and Roethlisberger (well, maybe not this year.) are afforded. His footwork? He doesn’t have time to work on his footwork considering that the other team’s d-lineman is bearing down on him. The passes thrown at their feet? Have you noticed that someone is riding Vick’s back on many of those occasions? Improving the line would give Vick more time to focus on his footwork and going through his progressions. As for the wideouts, they aren’t pulling their own share of the weight. No excuses need to be made for this trio of underachieving misfits. Blaming Vick is an excuse for the wideouts! It works both ways. The Falcons need to acquire either a franchise wide receiver or a dependable veteran, who will catch the ball when given the golden opportunity to score a touchdown. That’s my shot at Roddy White.
As for the “Vick is a thug” talk, I’m getting the strongest sensation that sports fans think that they are entitled to say whatever comes to their often “liquored up” minds, to quote Peyton Manning. I guess they think that the price of their ticket entitles them to throw things on the field, such as beer, batteries, snowballs and etc. Yes, you have a right to boo their on-field performance. Personal attacks are out of line. Where’s the fans code of ethics and conduct? Apparently there is no line that shouldn’t be crossed. Vick’s behavior isn’t justified in anyway, but when will sports fans own up to some level of personal responsibility? Some of the crowd’s behavior during the game is crude as well. The incident in Detroit is a perfect example of fans’ misconduct at it’s worst. Granted that didn’t happen here, however sports fans or the leagues need to a draw a line about fan conduct and participation. Some fans don’t need to be at the game.

This event only points up how prudish this area is, and how the NFL has changed over the years. Mike Ditka was similarly fined as a coach of the New Orleans Saints back in 2000. To illustrate the change, however, when John Brodie was introduced as the new quarterback ofthe SF 49ers when he first started, a significant part of those in attendance at Candlestick Park booed the new quarterback. In turn Brodie turned to the fans behind him and gave them and the stadium the middle finger salute, and with both hands. He kept his hands held high. After a while the boos turned to cheers.

It’s just a different game now. NFL=No Fun League.

At this point, who cares? it is a tired story. Arthur and McKay, however, should have stepped up and said something more than they said because every organization would have done so.

Why is McKay so quiet on all issues surrounding this team anyway? I think he should be getting more heat than Mora and Vick are getting. In fact, I think McKay should be getting more heat than Vick and Mora are getting combined.

Mora, Vick, Dunn, DHall, Finneran, Brooking, Coleman, Alge, Kerney and all of those guys two years ago made it to the conference championship together with their collective efforts when they had a talent base surrounding them that Dan Reeves had provided to them.

But now that McKay and Blank have eroded that talent pool surrounding Mora, Vick, Dunn, Finn, Alge, Coleman, Kerney, Brooking, and DHall, the falcons barely resemble the team on the cusp of greatness from 2 years ago.

That is not a coaching problem. Mora and the coaches got us there two years ago when they had dan reeves talent base. Reeves got us to the Super Bowl. DOn’t we all feel stupid that we let Blank fire him like the fact that he brought the freaking falcons to the Super Bowl was not worth considering when deciding to fire someone? Yes, King Arthur, it is important to review a person’s track record when you decide to fire them. Unless they have done something just so egregious, their track record tells you whether you need to be firing them. Thus, when Mora was provided the necessary supporting talent to bolster his superstars, Mora made it to the Conference Championship in his first year as a coach. Just as Reeves was not appreciated and respected by Arthur for bringing the Falcons to the Super Bowl, wouldn’t Mora suffer the same fate because he did after all bring the falcons of all teams to the super bowl in his first year as a coach and only a year after the falcons had won like 5 games all year?

I never thought I would have been supporting Mora 3 weeks ago. But I have done some serious thinking about this team and I think i have either figured out or have rationalized the team’s problems to where I no longer blame Mora. I BLAME MCKAY & BLANK FOR ALL THAT IS WRONG WITH THE FALCONS!

The problem is not with the players Dan Reeves provided who played on that team that was 1 game from the Super Bowl two years ago.

The problem is the players that McKay and Blank have given this team since that time. they are just not good enough.

Bad drafts, bad free agents, bad trades, and bad overexpensive contracts to the important guys already on the team are just killing the coaches and the players who remain from that team 2 years ago. That is a McKay problem. That is a Blank problem. That is not a Mora or Vick problem.

A coach and a QB are usually only as good as the players they are provided. Somebody has taken away the players they excelled with and subsituted them with inferior often injured players and the backups provide no depth to the team.

But keep blaming Mora and Vick if that makes you happy. keep picking on the targets that are easy to take aim at instead of digging deeper and getting to the core of this team’s problems which is the crap talent mckay and blank have provided have killed the team.

King Arthur will speak with almost anyone but McKay hides in the shadows and the weakass fans and the weakass AJC continue to let him get away with it although it should be obvious that he is the one who has screwed this team all up.

RICHIE, come out, come out, wherever you are!! Richie, Daddy’s money and Daddy’s rep will not shield you too much longer. Eventually, you will be exposed for the fraud that you are. The other NFL owners told Peter King that you were not Commish timber and now it is time for the Falcons owner to tell you that you are not GM timber either.

What do you people have against midgets?!! The least you could do is be PC and describe them as “Vertically challenged.” Mora = The Lion (has no courage), M Vick = The Tin Man (has no brain), R White = The Scarecrow (has no heart), and D Hall is Dorothy since he’s a bee-yotch!

The Falcons need an offensive line. It won’t matter who’s playing at quarterback if Rich McKay doesn’t invest some money in protecting the quarterback. When All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson was on the market, did the Falcons attempt to sign him? No. Here’s another question for Falcons fans- When is the last time you saw a Falcons’ offensive lineman in the Pro Bowl? Offensive linemen aren’t a sexy draft pick, but it’s what Atlanta needs. Vick or Schaub, doesn’t matter without pass protection.

So I just got back from Home Depot. I saw a lot of employees standing around doing nothing, but there was this one guy really working hard. Damn near sweating. I walked straight up to him and started telling him how much he sucked at his job. The nerve of this guy, he actually took it in stride and tried to help me with my shopping experience. He didn’t know exactly where everything was, but he was willing to put in the work with me to find out. Meanwhile, everyone else is standing around. I’m fine with that. I really wanted to make this other employee mad though. So I began heckling him, making personal remarks about his background, and talking about how bad he was at his job. I could see him getting a little frustrated, but this guy just kept trying to help me through the store. Finally, I just straight up made some racists remarks to him, and he kinda snapped and flipped me the bird.

Well, first thing I did was go straight to the owner and demand that this employee be fired. Why should he be running around sweating while everyone else is playing it cool? I had to make fun of this guy for almost an hour straight before he flipped me the bird. What kind of a*******hole flips me the bird? I’m so glad I got that thug fired, and I will never forgive him for it. After all, I’m a customer. I can say whatever I want to any employee because I bought a roll of duct tape and a hammer there. What a thug. I think his name was Mike. Home Depot is much better off without that sweaty thug running around trying to help people. Afterwards, I actually did need some help finding something, but I couldn’t find anyone. I wonder what happened to that guy Mike. He’s probably thugging out in jail somewhere. I mean, he did flip me off.

I’ve been a falcon fan since the gerald riggs days, and I’m getting tired of watching a losing team year after year. what do we have to brag about, 04,02,98,91,80. What is up with these recievers not catching the ball. they need to stop eating butterfingers before a game. Seriously, they catch better on madden 07 then in real life. Trade Vick for a big play reciever. Vick obviously doesn’t want to be here anyway. I am not sure the the NFL should ever have to fine a player for flipping off the fans. I think the owners should be responsible. Plummer, Moss, and now Vick should really have thought about their actions before acting. If it weren’t for the fans that they flipped off all three of them would be out in a totally different world struggling to make it. I guess a lot of NFL players feel that they are above everyone else. Rightfully so, how many of us in the real world can flip off our paying customers and keep our job? I love the NFL and I love the Falcons, but I feel Blank needs to hold his players to a higher standard. I am for trading Vick, hopefully he will fare better in a new city, and maybe we can get some high picks for him. Calvin Johnson could stay right here in GA, and give Schaub a chance. I also think the coaching staff needs a major overhaul. I think Mora is smart, but not worthy of a head coaching job. He is to much of a buddy to the players and not a leader.

Atlanta will NEVER be a sports town. It’s been invaded by too many non-natives with a “what have you done for me lately” mentality. Don’t want to be loyal, but yet you DEMAND absolute perfection from the players on and off the field. What a bunch of hypocrits! Hey Flannel No5 and Terence, This is the NFL, not Home Depot. If the fans don’t like the team or the way they are playing, don’t buy the tickets. There are 40,000 other eager fans waiting to take their place. Blank has spoiled these leaches you call fans. We have the lowest prices in the league, and rightfully so, as the Falcons perform at the lowest. The idiot fan is fortunate Vick didn’t come into the stands. Forget the apologies, Blank feels the fans should cheer or leave. Browbeating the team is useless and the idiots should be escorted out by security, with their tickets confiscated and given to the next fan on the waiting list!

Terrence, Arthur Blank is one of the smartest owners in the NFL. The reason that you are not at his level is because you wouldn’t know how to handle this type of situation.

Those who know Arthur and people who have to manage situations like this know that he dealt with it. INTERNALLY. You better believe that Mike has been pulled aside and even engaged in closed door meetings with not only Arthur but other management. They probably waited for the NFL to reprimand him publicly, but privately I am sure that he was counseled extensively.

As for Mike, he is frustrated. I would be too. He played a great game. Mike can’t play corner back and safety so that we don’t get bombs thrown on us, he can’t be in the end zone at the end of every half to knock the ball down instead of trying to intercept it, he can’t block for himself (or Jerious and Warrick) or THROW THE BALL TO HIMSELF AND CATCH IT TOO! BUT HE CAN GET 166 YARDS ALL BY HIMSELF!!!!

Everyone gets mad, Mike should not have lost his cool. He apologized. Move on.

We can still make the playoffs, let’s rally the team, support the players, and believe me, Arthur will make the appropriate changes at the end of the year…..

Player conduct is a reflection of management and the entire organization. I believe this entire sitiuation has blind sided Mr. Blank, even with all his experience.

Ownership should not be passing on costs of renovations to the fans…they can more than afford it with their profits. It would be nice not to get an annual season ticket increase again. How about a reduction?

McKay & Co seem set on drafting players from the ACC. Vick, D. Hall, Brooking, and J. Williams to name a few. Others such as Carpenter came and went. Time for management to wise up and take a look at the SEC. It and its players are superior to the weak ACC.

everyone likes to bash the Falcon recievers for dropping the ball…how about all Vicks drops? or how about the times when the ball is thrown behind the recievers, or he throws a bullet 5 ft from a reciever. No Vick does no wrong it is all the recievers fault. Maybe we should keep Vick forever…even if we manage to go 0-16. Rather be losers than be tagged as racist. A Vick trade would make perfect sense. It will never happen though, Blank is to worried about what some people will think of him rather than making an honest attempt to build a winner. With the staff we have now things will never change. What does Mora do when Vick fumbles, or a reciever drops a pass…or a DB lets a reciever catch a hail mary because he is trying to show boat? He just smiles and tries to look good for the camera… If we had Cowher or Parcells think that would happen here? Ofcourse Mora is not a coach he is just Blank’s puppet. He is afraid to bench Vick, because he will lose his job. If he keeps losing he will lose his job. Wonder now why anyone would call Vick a coach killer? And all you Reeves fans out there…other than 98 (which was a fluke)..what did Reeves do for Atlanta? 02 the Falcons made the playoffs, but they had the benefit of a weak schedule. The only quality win that year was the playoff game in Green Bay.

Arthur Blank is suppose to be a management guru? What’s happened to his special talent? First deal with the problem, the offense. That means create to solve the problem or either heads roll from the OC to the QB to the players themselves. Suggestion…. Make Vick earn his money by putting him in the slot or wideout or backfield up to 50% of the time and under center 50% of the time. Get D.J. and Matt into this rotation and let them play ball. So one gets hurt, it’s the NFL and that is the risk. And just in case get Joe Hamilton on the team to back Vick up in the slot/wr/etc… The Qb of run/pass threat can be used as a decoy as well as a playmaker even if not under center. That’s takes creativity which gets back to the O.C. As for Blank he should stay off the field and in his office looking at the big picture like drafting two wr’s who can’t catch with 1st round draft choices and GM’s who may have lost their touch as well as OL coaches and O.C. Make it happen Art that’s what you’re suppose to be about and while doing that cut ticket prices 20% across the board to show you’re still on the fans side.

By Joey

November 30, 2006 01:16 AM | Link to this

You know Terrance is going to back his boy Vick. The fact of the matter is Vick is the worst QB in the NFL. Schaub really needs to be in there. If Vick wants to stay in the NFL, than he needs to look into being a receiver or maybe work in the secondary. He is fast, but fast means nothing when you can’t even play 20 yard catch with 6’ 5” receivers and tight ends. Please please please trade Vick to anyone. Even Barcelona for all I care, just get rid of him. It’s time to win in this city.

Once again here are Sean Salisbury’s comments from ESPN’s NFL Primetime and he as well as the other talking heads that actually played the game and are not jock sniffers are essentially saying the same:

“Quite frankly I’m tired of everybody pointing the finger at Number 7. Sure sometimes he misses throws or makes mistakes but without Vick the Falcons aren’t SQUAT. How about some receivers? You have three Number Ones that couldn’t catch a cold or even if you walked the ball up and handed it to them. How about some help? The guy has a dome and a franchise loaded up on his shoulders, and let’s face it, if Vick doesn’t play well the Falcons have no shot. It’s really that simple. All of the fingers are pointed at Vick and he’s not a dropback passer and all the nonsense….enough! Without Vick Atlanta will be picking in the top five picks next year! It’s about time somebody else step up and start eating the Life Cereal (give it to Mikey he does everything) and give Vick some help. He’s gotta get better but he also needs some help. Three Number Ones (Jenkins, Lelie, and White), please! I could get guys in the seven round or undrafted that can outplay these guys!!”

Vick haters, please come out of your collective sense of denial. If Schaub was that good he would have not slipped into the second round. The teams that covet him already have some semblance of offensive talent in place. No quarterback can step in and do any better that Vick. Quarterbacks around the league know this because percentage wise the WRs are leading the league in drops. And then other quarterbacks (including Schaub) see the press keep fanning the flames of Vick’s double barreled salute by getting booed by his home fans after laying everything out on the field. What is to happen to Schaub (or any other quarterback) when the line can’t pass block or the WRs drop his balls. HEY ATLANTA, GOOD LUCK ATTRACTING FREE AGENTS!!!

By Cap

November 30, 2006 01:41 AM | Link to this

To the Vick Haters, I still don’t understand why you think Vick is so bad. Vick is 10th in the league among quarterbacks in terms of touchdown-to-interception ratio. This week was the first time Mora ever fell below .500; the Falcons roster talent has not been getting better since Vick has been in the league, it’s been getting worse. Prior to Vick’s arrival, Atlanta had been posting winning seasons about once every seven or eight years. It is admirable that you have hope that Matt Schaub could step in and somehow do better but it is not realistic. Right now, LaDanian Tomlinson is the leading MVP candidate and Vick has a better career winning percentage. Matt Schaub would be a good NFL quarterback if he had an offensive core around him. Vick would be Elwayesque if he even had SOME help.

If Arthur Blank is going to be an owner, then he need to act like one and get something done with this team. Other teams have fired offsensive coordinators (2). DO something. Say something we don’t already know. All he does is appear suddenly in the 4th quarter on the sidelines like a ghost. He whispers magic things into Mora’s ear and that is all there is. Come on Arthur, act like you own the team and lead.

Hey Cap,

“touchdown-to-interception ratio”???? WOW…really important benchmark for QBs!!!!

You also wrote: “LaDanian Tomlinson is the leading MVP candidate and Vick has a better career winning percentage.”

Stop with the pulling of meaningless numbers!!!! The FALCONS are 7-12 in their last 19 games!!!! Mora is 24-19 as a head coach, so that means the Falcons are now headed backward instead of forward in progressing as a winner…..use the facts correctly. Don’t grab bits of information that give a false picture of the Falcons’ current condition.

Finally, Vick could be great if he had a COACHING STAFF that knew how to use his abilities and could create a TEAM with Vick at it’s core!!!!!

I’m glad Mike Vick flipped off the fans.

He should flick off Mora, and maybe his receivers, especially after that one hit he took, virtually pancaked through the turf by some monster, while the schmuck (White?) let the ball hit his gut and drop to the ground. I would like to see some of the fatasses in the stands that booed him and that stuff their pieholes all game, get out there and take that kind of a hit: what a bunch of losers.

I love how Vick is one of the most talented players in the last ten years to play in the NFL and people want to turn him into Chris Chandler.
