Tech won’t lose to Georgia
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’ll admit it. The scores from last Saturday — Tech 7, Carolina 0 and Georgia 37, Auburn 15 — gave me pause. I’ve thought all along (and by all along I mean going back to the summer) that the Jackets will beat the Bulldogs. But now Georgia finally beats somebody and Tech barely beats nobody, and what did that do to my prediction?
After some (but not all that much) internal debate, here’s the answer: Nothing.
I still think Tech will win.
This isn’t one of those throw-out-the-record-book rivalries. In GT-vs.-UGA, there aren’t many out-of-the-blue upsets. Of the Jackets’ last four victories in the series, all have come when the Jackets were already ranked. And every single time a ranked Tech team has played an unranked Georgia team — according to the Jackets’ media guide, it has happened nine times, the first in 1943 — Tech has won the game.
I know they’re playing in Athens, but that doesn’t matter, either. Over the last 50 years, Tech has won as many times (seven) in Sanford Stadium as in Atlanta. This, in sum, is a series where there’s only one determinant: Is Tech really good? This year it is.

Nice try at fanning the flames Mark. But in reality, Tech is not that good. The ACC is a creme puff conference this year, and furthermore, Reggie Ball is still Tech’s QB. IF the Dawgs play like they did at Auburn it won’t even be close. Tech gets killed.

I pray this column makes its way to the UGA locker room….or atleast under coach Richt’s nose. I feel bad for Tech…Chan Gailey must be beside himself with all the “Tech is better than UGA, or Tech will win this year” coverage in AJC this year.
Side note, its really funny hearing somebody hype up a win against a team that has won 5 in a row against the other. If there’s something Techies should know, its numbers…and the number that matters is 5

I guess it would be pretty embarrassing for a team from a cream puff conference to upset those almighty Bulldogs, wouldn’t it!? I mean afterall, those mighty dogs always dominate the cream puffs in their conference (i.e. Vandy, Kentucky).

I think it really depends on which Georgia team and which Georgia Tech team shows up. Both have been up and down this year and sometimes look good and then sometimes look bad. Turnovers will be a key. If Georgia turns it over like they did against Vandy, Kentucky and Mississippi State, I don’t think they’ll win (28-17 Tech). If both teams play like they did last week, I don’t think Tech will win (24-7 Georgia). If both play bad at the same time, it could be a 7-3 game (either team could win). In the world of inconsistant college football teams, it could go either way and the result will probably not be what was expected.

I thought all along this year that we would come out fired up and hand it to Tech. We get some well needed rest in the form of a bye week and two weeks to prepare for a beat up Tech. Every Dawg fan I know has said the same thing, “I don’t care what happens the rest of the year, as long as we beat Tech.” The fans will come out in the full support that I think has been missing the last few years. We have been spoiled mith Richt and needed a year like this to remotivate our players and fans. Reggie will be Reggie, Dawgs will prevail.

Sorry to bring the bad news Jason. Tech will likely NOT be favored. As it stands, Sagarin would have them a dead heat.
Georgia is about 2 3/4 points lower than Tech, but it’s a home game for them and the home field avantage is 2 3/4 points.
Tech’s power ratings took a dive after last week’s “limp” performance against lowly UNC. UGA’s jumped with their win over Awbrun. Going into last week, Tech would have been about a 4-point road favorite.
Not much chance of that moving in Tech’s direction either. Duke’s power rating is so low that even a whitewash won’t help our ratings (Sagarin has a diminishing return for large spreads). UGA won’t lose any ground since they have an open date.
If I can outguess the Vegas odds-makers, they will likely set the odds very close to a “pick-em.” Probably will favor UGA by a point or two since UGA’s home field is considered a little stronger than most.
Not saying that UGA will win, but I doubt Tech will be favored.

How would beating UGA this year ‘put them in their place’? So..one win reverses the past 4 years? One win, over a down team, reverses Reggie’s throwaway on 4th down to LOSE? One win reverses a 51-7 beatdown?
Mmmmk. Right. Tech may win….I don’t know….but I don’t think that will signal a changing of the guard in the rivalry. It’s easy to kick a team while their down…..sure. But…I think….Tech will go home….stingers between their legs….having nightmares of having to face the mighty #7 for the next 2-3 years!!!!
Go Dawgs…pound the Nerds…..

What makes it even better is that really it is more than 5 in a rown since the victories before that Tech was cheating and using inelegible players. If UGA plays like they did last week there wont be much of a contest becuase Paul Oliver is going to shutdown CJ like he did last year and Ball will be good for a couple of DA plays. The dawgs roll in Athens.

I am not saying by any means that UGA has had a good year, clearly. The losses to Vandy and UK are ridiculous.
But UGA has beaten a top 5 team on the road this year. Tech has had an easy schedule and their biggest win was on the road at Va Tech who really isn’t very good.
Look, if the UGA team that played Auburn shows up, Tech will lose. Tech isn’t as good as Auburn, people. Any rational person would think that.

Not much of a column, Bradley.
I suppose Tech should be favored, but it will get settled on the field. It could be a blow out either way (if one team doesn’t turn the ball over), or it could be very close. That is why we play the games.
No doubt the Dawgs have dominated recently, something like 13-2. Maybe Radakovich (an alum) will step in for Coach Gailey to fire up the players a little more. Gailey seems to take the approach that it is just another game.
Of course, we are overlooking the Duke game. Always a dangerous practice.
Tech would be better served to limit Reggie to the starting 3 possessions, then rest him. Too bad Chan does not subscribe to this theory.

This game wont be fun to watch. A so-so Tech team against a really bad Georgia team that should have lost to Colorado, Miss State and Ole Miss along with the Vandy and Kentucky disasters. The Auburn game was a mirage. The ACC is down this year and has one or two good teams and Tech is just ok to average. Every team in the SEC except Arkansas is over ranked. The best football played Georgia this season was out at Norcross. Ill just rake leaves and won`t miss much.

The Jackets OUGHT to beat the ‘Dogs this year. A four year starter at QB, the best wideout in college football, and a decent defense. What will be interesting to watch is whether the Jackets come out “tight.” I mean, if Chan and company can’t beat the ‘Dogs this year when will they?? The heat is on the Jackets. The ‘Dogs don’t have all that much to lose. After losing to Vandy and KY, the season remains a bust no matter how well they played at AU.

Wow, Bradley… I thought only the retarded Carter Strickland refused to back down from his mistakes.
You’re sticking to your guns, even though the Bugs are QB’d by Reggie Ball?
Even though the Bugs have played no one this year (I don’t count the most overrated team in America, Notre Dame, as anyone), while the Dawgs have played a much harder schedule, and yes, in a very down year, underperformed, but did just beat the No. 5 team in the nation on road?
You’re sticking with the Bugs, even though Mark Richt has never lost to the Bugs?
You’re sticking with the Bugs right after Matthew Stafford has his name-making game, a la David Greene’s Hob-Nailed Boot?
And all you Bugs congratulation in winning a division in the worst BCS Conference in football. Yeah, that’s a real accomplishment.
The only thing better than beating the Bugs, which we will, is watching them lose to Wake Forest in Jacksonville, and then watching them lose in the Meineke Bowl or CooperTire Bowl (because BC will go to the Gator Bowl) while we beat Clemson in Atlanta in the PEACH Bowl.
Yeah, that’s a down year for us, but for y’all, being able to stay on the East Coast makes this the greatest year that most of you Bugs have ever had after that year you stole half a title from Colorado.
And the best part? We finish 9-4, and y’all’ll finish 9-5. With a loss to us, making our down year (and the only one we’ll have in a long time) still better than your best season.
Oh, I can’t wait, because this is the only way it can end.
So this will make it 3 straight Bug senior classes who’ve never beat the Dawgs, and something like 11 straight Bug senior classes who’ve never beaten the Dawgs according to the NCAA. Because those 3 games y’all won, you cheated and they took those victories away… so there’s like 11 straight Bug senior classes who’ve never beaten the Dawgs without cheating.
Awesome!!!

this will be another year that UGA reminds Calvin Johnson that he made the wrong decision. we’ve needed 1 big time WR over the last several years, he could’ve been it. but he opted for the easier way. he wanted less competition in practice, less in the game and with that came less victories and a couple games in December on a blue field. oh, and having to play with Reggie Ball instead of the all time ncaa victor champ in David Greene. good-bye calvin, you could’a and should’a but you will go down in the books as just an average player in college. my what could’ve been. and Bradley, to say UGA has no chance is just plain ignorant. No chance, wow. You know we haven’t been blown out this year right? we’ve played to the level of competition each game right? so yeah, we’ll probably play poorly this weekend, but to say we have no chance indicates we’ll get blown out, which isn’t what has happened at all this season. you must have needed to get your blog response quota up so you threw that out there.

First of all, doesnt Mark Bradley say this every year? So basically his opinion means nothing.
I also like how UGA fans are using the Auburn game not as a barometer of how good their team can be, but how good their team already is. Sorry, but I prefer to look at the other 10 games you’ve played this year, not just the most recent. Likewise for Tech, a team who finds a way to win in 9 of 11 games this year. Yes, I’m counting a win against Duke. Sue me. So as long as Georgia has the same players that almost lost to Colorado, Miss. State, Ole Miss, and did lose to Vandy and Kentucky, we’ll be fine.
Furthermore, did everyone else see the same GA-Auburn game I did? As long as you can field 11 players on defense, you could have picked off Brandon Cox last weekend. His passes were so far off it was rediculous. Dare I say Reggie’s not even that bad. I think we all knew Auburn was overrated. I’m just not impressed. And if there’s anybody on earth thats not impressed with a win over Auburn, its Tech fans.

Letsseee, hmmm who would I think has the best chance to win??? At QB after last week I like Stafford as the most talented between him And Reggie Ball. The three senior linebackers—-yep I give the edge to GA…. Defensive ends-oops Ga again. OK ,I give in And give the receivers edge to Tech . Running back Lumpkin over Choice-Yes. Techies and Bradley just dont get it. If you play like you just played against powerhouse UNC you not only wont win-you will be embarassed. Win before you beat your little wings off. I promise its The Seniors last game in Sanford and its gonna be rocking. Id hope Reginald doesnt get stupid or something like Cox at Auburn or it could get ugly. My Tech Grad Dad and brother in laws have to leave the room each year as we stomp your asses. Havent you learned that even when these teams are about even what the dogs can due and have been doing for years. Go to the game and feel the different atmosphere in a real stadium- that of the SEC. Ah, you’d almost expect a Georgia Tech fan (tech1515 ) to spell correctly when they are making fun of a Georgia fan’s spelling (“Dawgs” is fine by the way). “Role” on, Tech! Go get that degree!
But this is exactly the type of article that I’d expect to see from the GT-biased writer Mark Bradley. He loves to take any chance he can get to put the Dogs down (he was probably rejected by a beautiful Georgia grad at some point), and once again his words are basically worthless.
This year Tech has the better season and a team that has been clicking in an average conference (along with one of the best receivers in the nation), and Georgia has the puzzle pieces in place but they’re not executing. Hopefully the team woke up..
Bottom line is if Georgia is playing on all cylinders like they did against Auburn, then it might be a while before Tech can beat Georgia again.
And AJC, can we do something about the sports column? Hell, hire Munson. He’d bring the right touch to the table.

I’m not going to act glorified by the fact that we’ve only beaten Georgia 3 times out of the last 15 years, but I will say that UGA fans who claim that those 3 wins were wiped out need to get their facts straight. The NCAA reversed their decision months ago - they are back in the win column for Tech.
I know, pretty sad that that’s all I can say, but at least be gracious and give us those wins, especially when they really are wins.

Stafford will get hit hard and often. KHall and Wheeler will scramble his little 18 year old mind so bad.

No way UGA beats LSU in the SEC Championship Game. No way UGA beats Auburn in 2006. This just gets old.
Of course, it will be funny that even if Tech goes to the ACC Championship game and to the Orange Bowl, the largest crowd they’ll see will be in Athens, Georgia.
If UGA wins, Techies will be hearing this for a year: “Number 2 in the ACC, Number 2 in the state!
ACC teams in the Top 10: None as usual.
SEC teams in the Top 10: 3, lower than usual.

thanks Mark - let’s hope the media keep predicting a Tech win, for that can only inspire the Dogs.
This Tech team is “really good”? Since when? Georgia will do what it generally does, and that is find a way to beat Tech. Tech fans will commence to blaming the officials, saying that Georgia “hates us more than we hate them” (the ultimate irony), lamenting our off week, and saying that we’re lucky.
You can set your watch by this stuff. Oh yeah, forgot one: “We were focused on the ACC championship game!” Hey, the nation is. Tech/Wake will get less viewers than Fox Sports showing darts.

Wow, I just want to be the mutts even more after reading all these ignorant rednecks.
Wow, good job dawgs. You got one win all year that anyone cared about, when the other team’s QB only threw four completions and three interceptions. Whoop-dee-freaking-doo. Say what you want to about about Reggie, but just look at his TD to INT ratio for why that won’t happen in Athens.
And that win somehow erases close games or losses against, well, just about everybody else except for Western Kentucky. What would you be saying about Tech if we lost to Vandy and Kentucky and nearly lost to Ole Miss, Miss. State and Colorado?
It wasn’t that long ago that the little sunshine Stafford threw eight interceptions in three games. Young QBs like him are the prime course in Tenuta’s buffet. See: Kyle Wright.
I distinctly remember Bradley picking UGA last year, so at least he’s right about something. Bradley’s logic has overwhelmingly played out in the history of this rivalry, whether you want to believe it or not.
We lost to Duke when we had a much worse football team in 2003 with a true freshmen at QB. Guess which team has the true freshmen now?
I just really want to shut you puppies up for once. I’m well aware of the streak you guys have, but you better see how long your dominance lasts with the type of recruiting class we’ve got this year.

Somebody better try to stop Stafford because he is feeling it right now. Did anybody read those stats that he was like two yards shy of Shockleys career high in rushing. I wish we would have let somebody, anybody run it those last few plays against Auburn. Im ok with the sportsmanship thing but to start Kneeling it out with three minutes to go just killed me. Especially when a kid like Jason Johnson was foaming at the mouth and was finally about to get his chance. That kid dominated two spring games and we go tree hugging and dont put 44 on Tubbybaby. Southerland was liking how it felt at the tailback. He would have loved to pound it one or two more times. If it was time to kneel it Auburn would have never gotten the ball back. Although it was sporting to try not to run up the score Its also like fighting the last round by covering up and never throwing a punch. Why put the defense back on the field?? Jus t run it up the middle if they stop the fourth stringer so what???

I think Tech should cancel the game because of Stafford. He is just the greatest QB that ever took the field with his 5 TD’s and 12 INT. Too bad he can’t skip his last 3 years and go pro where he would be the #1 Draft pick. I’m sure Tenuta is shaken in his shoes trying to figure out how to stop him.

Three points: 1) The Championship game is far more important than a game against UGA, whose season is pretty much over (except for trying to get to a mid level bowl). So, while we should try to beat UGA it won’t be the end of world if we lose; our eyes should be on a much bigger prize. UGA can’t say that.
2) The ACC has more ranked teams (6) than SEC (5), so it is not a “creampuff” conference. I’m pretty sure a couple of our lower echelon teams, Miami and FSU, could beat Vandy and Kentucky.
3) Bradley’s prediction should hold some weight since he correctly predicted we could get to the Final 4 early on in the NCAAs.

A Georgia grad and a Tech grad were seated next to each other on a Delta flight.
A little into the flight the Tech grad remarks, “You must be a graduate of the University of Georgia.”
The Georgia grad responds, “Why yes I am. How did you know?”
The Tech grad explains, “Well, you’re wearing a very expensive suit and Rolex, you’re reading the Wall Street Journal and I saw the picture of your wife you showed the stewardess. She’s very beautiful.”
The Georgia grad thanked him for the compliment and they continued the flight.
A little while later the Georgia grad turned to the Tech grad and said, “Well apparently you graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology.”
“Yes I did!” the Tech grad beamed, “How did you know?”
The Georgia grad replied, “I saw your class ring when you werepicking your nose.”

History repeats itself. The past 4 times Tech’s played UGA with only 2 season losses, we’ve won (2000, 1998, 1990, 1985). 3 were in Athens. The 1990 team was the only one nearly as bad as this one, and they got destroyed against Tech. 2000 was again total domination on Tech’s part. If history repeats itself, it should be a pretty good Thanksgiving week.

So everyone thinks that Auburn is so much better than Tech, so that automatically means UGA’s king of the world. Look, your blowout win over Auburn isn’t a foreshadowing of what’s going to happen when you play Tech. How many times did Auburn turn the ball over on clearly BAD throws? We’ve seen how bad UGA’s QB’s are under pressure this year. I assure you, Tech’s gonna be bringing more pressure than anyone UGA’s played this season.

If UGA plays like they did at Auburn ??? What happens if they play like they did at Vandy or Kentucky? Or even Mississippi State for that matter. Last week, I think they simply swapped the quarterbacks between Auburn and UGA. Auburn’s quarterback was doing the throwing to the wrong team instead of Stafford doing it. One “not bad” game does not a quarterback make. I think Stafford has all the tools, but am not buying that he improved that much in one week. Trey Battle won the game, not Stafford. Or should I say that Cox lost the game. And just maybe, the SEC is very overrated? What big wins does any SEC team have outside their own conference? Tennessee beat Cal in the first game of the season. Other than that, you have Auburn beating a very mediocre Washington State team. Or maybe UGA’s tremendous win over Colorado? No one in the conference has played anybody outside of the conference, so how do we know if they are good or not? The SEC complains about the Big East teams being ranked highly without playing anyone … how is the SEC any different?

to GREG i like how you think the ACC is a joke, thats real funny to you it wasnt so funny when W.Virginia came and handed it to you guys last year. it wasnt funny when Colorado almost beat you guys at home, it wasnt too funny when Vandy spoiled your little homecoming and you guys thought the world was coming to an end and it dam sure wasnt funny when Kentucky one of the worst D-1A schools in the nation handed you your 4th lose. you guys make fun of us by barley beating N.C and you acually managed to lose to Kentucky…come on its Kentucky, i mean they were probably so ready for basketball i heard they were calling basketball plays in the huddle and running layup drills at half time. come on man freaking Kentucky and you laugh at us. you guys are truly pathetic. one win over Auburn doesnt define a season. And you can stop trying to analyze the ACC and SEC. so what you have more teams ranked higher than the ACC, the ACC have knocked each other in and out of top ranked positions all year. some may even say the SEC is down this year, and guess whose fault it is. Yup you guessed UGA. To come in with a preseasoned ranked as high you guys and to fall completley off doesnt plead a better case for the SEC. We came in unranked and fought for where we are today.
so get off you high horse guys. because its a long fall from up there these days, but you should already know that by now..

Bradley…UGA finally found some confidence and you think Tech can overcome it? On the road? With Ball at QB? Nah. It won’t happen. Tech can be run on, and I’m sure they will be a little cautious w/ their blitzes after MS ate Allburn up with his Vick impersonation. Dawgs 27-13. Wake Forrest wins the ACC title and Tech plays on the blue turf in DEC with 4 L’s. Honestly!!!

Wow this is hilarity. Even before UGA beat the crap out of Auburn I never thought Tech was going to beat them.
What is Richt 5-0 against Tech? 5-1? Tech beats mighty UNC by a whole 7 points and it’s an incredible accomplishment.
UGA went through growing pains with a freshman QB against much better Kentucky and Vandy teams this year. Everyone but Tech fans know that those teams aren’t the same teams that they were in the past.
You think Vandy or Kentucky would only score 7 points on UNC?
You think Tech would beat Auburn this year?
No.
They won’t beat UGA either.
It’s not even going to be close.
55-7 UGA.

well guys…here we go again…every time the Techies have a decent year(not very often)they have to talk it up quickly as they know deep down they could easily lose this one, too.
The dawgs finally had the game where they clicked and it was Auburn that got hammered. If dawgs are “on” again,Tech is in big trouble.
Since Mark Bradley already knows the dawgs will lose, why don’t we just forfeit to Tech and we all take the day off???

Maybe Mark saw UGA against….well everybody with the exception of Auburn. Maybe he saw how overrated the Auburn team was. Maybe he saw Cox throw the ball right to UGA defenders. Maybe he beleived all the fickle UGA fans talk about how bad their QB has looked (last week he was called everything in the book. This week he’s the “Texas Gunslinger”). Maybe he’s trying to get UGA fans riled up like an old lady at a Georgia Championship Wrestling event.

Only time-will-tell the outcome of this game. The one thing that I know is there is not a team in the SEC or ACC that could or would beat the Georgia team that played Auburn last week. What finally happened was the leadership that was missing appeared and everlthing fell in place. Auburn was the whipping boy. Stafford has come into his own because there is no more who is the quarterback and Lumpkin put up a 100 yard game because he was the man. For all you that can’t get over losing to KY you mite stop and think that KY mite be a pretty good team. Let’s see they lost 4 games this year. 1st to #13 Louisville, 2nd to #2 FL, 3rd to SC, and 4th to #14 LSU. SC is ranked but lets see who they have lost to. 1st #12 GA (by 18),2nd #2 Auburn (by 7), 3rd #8 TN (by 7), 4th #12 AK (by 6), and 5th #6 FL (by 1). Vandy on the other hand has not done so good so the started their season by losing to Michigan (they were only rated #14 then) went down to AL, AK, Ole Miss, SC, FL, & KY. Thats six loses to three teams that are top 10 now plus SC who was played everbody tuff except GA. The bottem line is in the game of football somebody wins and somebody loses. For all you young whippersnappers out there who are not old enought to remember when a game could end in a tie, it just means somebody is going to lose. I’m sure the real GA fans who read these bogs remember Vince Dooly saying that on any given day any given team can be beat. Lets hope for a repeat of the Auburn game when we play Tech and against whoever we play in a bowl. GO DAWGS

I still can’t get over the fact that a school who has lost 12 of the past 15 games to Georgia is coming in here with these comments. The game is played for bragging rights. Generally, it’s the team that wins that has the bragging rights, but I guess Tech got tired of waiting their turn. Most of us know better than to go talking trash to Florida fans, because Florida absolutely owns us. By the way, losing to Vandy and Kentucky has been such a big deal because it NEVER happens. I remember in the past (every year but this year) Tech would lose to Duke, North Carolina, Wake, and whatever other basketball schools they played. See you in Athens. 12 of 15.

I’m going to give credit where credit is due, tech has had a good year. Calvin Johnson has given the nation a show with his spectacular talent, but how did this come about? His last minute decision to go to tech may have been a good one. I say this not because they are FINALLY winning, but largely because he is the strong man on a weak team. I feel as if he knew he would have been a not so bright star at UGA (little did he know…). Reggie Ball is still Reggie ball, he plays great not until you get out of a zone, but until you get in between his earpads. He lacks the same stability he did as a freshman and it is his ever-loving downfall.
Chan is still the same coach, mark my words, he hasnt gotten better, and all the hype about Nix is unjust as well. Yes, he is a better playcaller than they have had in the past…but that is a classic case of the headcoach taking the headphones off…a lot like what Richt needs to do.
UGA is winning where they need to be, in the helmets of the tech players. They are part of the sub-par team in the state, and they know that even if they are better this year…there is a sinking ship right near varsity…and to tell you the truth they stand a better chance in Athens than they do in that cracker box of a stadium in Atlanta. Georgia’s fans continue to disappoint, as we are not the rowdy ones of old, we are mild and pose a problem not to opposing teams but to the thoughts of our beloved Dawgs…largely in part to us having less of a set than Willie on third down.
To sum this up…Reggie still sucks, Calvin is good, UGA still better cause we’re big time and Tech is the equivalent of Arkansas…winning when others arent.

Obviously Dog Spawn is referring to the climax of the Dog Nation after an utterly grueling season. One in which many young players have gained a TON of game experience.
CMR will follow what worked against the over-rated tigers as far as game plan, and run to set up the pass. Oliver will be all over CJ. Ball will get flustered.
Plain and simple , UGA 31 GT 13.

dude, Tech is going to roll all over uga. uga might be able to beat auburn(which is overrated), but they cant beat teams like vandy and kentucky. also the Acc is not a cream puff conference. we rarley have more than 1 team with an 0 and something record(only duke). when the sec always have their bottom teams messed up. The past couple of years the ACC has at least 3 more ranked teams than the sec. and casey, how can a team thats like 6-4 be mighty and a team thats 8-2 be weak? they arent mighty and i cant belive that u actually spelled dog right 2, did a Tech grad tell u that?? and for your 2nd comment, this is sure not a magical year for uga. doesnt matter what record yall have, losing to vandy and kentucky in the same year is anything but magical. its downright embarrising. And basketball?? yall lost to wku!!! Come the 22nd, the 23rd(for now) ranked Jackets will roll over uga!!!!! so in conclusion, Jackets win big time over uga!!

Are we going to have a UGA vs. Tech Blog every week? This seems like at least fifth one in recent memory which just degenerates into an open forum for insult. Honestly, the game isn’t that important for either team with the exception of the fact that the winner will likely go to the Peach Bowl. Tech is already in the ACC championship game and UGA has been out of contention for the SEC title for some time. That being said, GT should win the game. They have a solid running game, stout defense and the difference-maker, Calvin Johnson. Just a quick note to add: I wish that UGA fans could possibly step outside their drunken stupor and realize that who won the last 5, 10, or 100 games even has almost no effect on the current game. Since rosters are completely recycled every 4 years, citing these stats to back up your argument is stupid. Of course, stupid is just what we expect from most UGA fans.

At least DragonCon isn’t coming to Atlanta next weekend so the Star Trek Tech nation can actually watch their boys come put short.
Reggie Ball in a big game on the road? I think I’ll take the Dawgs (and by the way, UGA will be favored by the oddsmakers.)

UGA is down and you know it. Admit it. It started last year at the Sugar Bowl where the Mountaineers whipped you! I’ll never forget the look at the fans faces. Yes you beat UAB, Western Somebody, USC and CU. You know that UF, UT, LSU and yes AU is better. AU beat themselves. For goodness sake play somebody before mid season for a change. Even though Tech beat UNC by seven, Tech will still kill UGA. Lets not forget, Georgia has lost to Vandy and Kentucky. And Stafford is playing QB. Have fun trying to run away from KaMichael and Phil Wheeler the whole game. My prediction: Calvin has 10 catches 220 yards, 3 scores and Tech wins by three touchdowns.

There’s a flag on the play, let’s go to the ref for the call:
“We have an illegal use of the Vulcan Death Grip on Georgia Tech. The penalty is 250,000 light meters…or 15 yards. Automatic first down.”
Tech’s not a bad team. Good defense, great WR. And sure it’s exiciting to have the opportunity to play for the conference championship (even when that conference is the ACC). But still. Let’s look at the ultimate and deciding facts: Their QB is Reggie ‘friggin Ball. Their coach is Chan Gailey. They are Georgia TECH. Come on now.
Georgia’s won 5 in a row, and, I think, 13 of the last 16. There’s no need for Tech fans to be all cocky and run their mouths like they are. It’s ridiculous. I know UGA’s having a “down” year (for us, at least, 8 wins is a down year, even with a freshman QB and a rash of injuries). But I guarantee you we won’t be playing a bowl game on blue turf or losing to Fresno St. in some bowl game in San Jose. I hope Tech wins the ACC, goes to the Orange Bowl, and then proceeds to get embarrassed; which is what’s gonna happen come next Saturday between the hedges.
I liked that question by the way… What’s the square root of a blowout? A: Georgia OVER Georgia Tech. Goodnight nerds, go watch Battlestar Galactica.

I can tell you right now that calling the Yellow Jackets bugs and the Bulldogs puppies doesn’t do a ton to strengthen your argument, it only makes you look like a complete moron. Georgia Tech will win because they are a better team; it’s as simple as that. No one cares who won last year or ten years ago. Believe it or not, games are independent of one another. It doesn’t matter if your team won by 300 points 5 years ago, those points don’t go towards this game so citing those facts only lets us know you have a decent memory, nothing else.

I never predict the outcome of a game, I’m just a Grandmother who loves her Bulldogs—win or lose. Like to take issue with Tech fan “atljacket” that we GA fans consider Stafford the “second coming of Christ”, and by the way was at the Ga Tech game back in early 80”s when Tech played Notre Dame ( at Tech ) and fans threw rotten fruit on Irish players calling them “Dirty rotten Catholics” And how about the game Robert Jarase spit in Herschel Walker’s face on the field and like a “real man” Herschel just walked away! Of course Robert was reprimanded and finally thrown off team because of academics. Can’t you folks leave religion out of a football game ??? And to Reality, you plan to leave with our “hedges ” —-again . Doesn’t Tech have anything on or around the stadium you’d like to take pride in taking home as a fond momento instead of trashing an opponants field for something pretty ??? Like I said just a Grandmother sitting here wondering ?? Better check those stats when you call Georgia alumni stupid, bet you’d be surprised !Win or lose, Bulldogs, this grandmother has alot of precious memories of the games you’ve played. I know I’ll get flack back, but I always just smile and consider the source. Age does that to some people ! Sure bet Auburn loved all the comments about them !And the comments about Dog fans being crybabies about “supposed ” bad calls that cost us the game, are you forgetting the game we “lost” to you where every official was fined and not allowed to participate in a Bowl Game that year because the NCAA reviewed the game and the awful truth came out——we did win it, just not on the books. But guess that’s what counts, not how you play the game !!!

UGA has no hope of beating Tech. We dog fans must come together and face the facts. Our season was nothing short of impotent. The humiliation it is to be a UGA fan is reason enough for us to cry ourseleves to sleep every night. There is good news though! The season is almost over and then we can fade into the earned mediocrity. I hope the rest of dog nation has a sister to sleep next to at night so you have a shoulder to cry on…redneck inbreeding losers

I am sick to think that UGA even has a small chance of doing anything other than making Athens into a laughing stock. Tech will pound us into the ground. Our season is a loss and I wish that the dogs had even a fraction of the talent that the mighty GT Yellow Jackets have displayed in their dominating performances. Why oh why can’t we be in the SEC conference championship? Because we are a gimpy joke. Shreveport here we come!!!!!! SEC fans are ignorant. When a 5-4 ACC team beats another better team, you say the conference is having an off year. When UGA blows out Auburn, or Florida survives lowly South Carolina, you say your conference is balanced. We’ll see what happens in the bowl games. Play some decent out of conference games in addition to Arkansas’ thumping at the hands of USC.

Auburn did not see UGA comming and that win brushed aside any idea UGA is off its game. Tech will not make the offensive mistakes Auburn did because they haven’t all year. Last year UGA had a better team and it was close. This year the way Tech has played on the road they will win.

Keep that confidence up after than impressive 7-0 win over Carolina last week. Maybe you will be able to score more than once over that powerhouse Duke thsi weekend. You have so many top 20 teams from your ACC conference that you should feel proud of yourself for the one victory over VTech this tear. Aww bless. It is truly cute to see the Tech football fans come out of the woodwork whenever they have a decent season. A couple more like this and they may actually have a fan base big enough to fill their high school-sized a stadium. Anyway, even if they do manage to win this season (which I think they might — they are due), it won’t make any difference in the long run. Tech is a mediocre ACC program that will make some noise about once every 6-8 seasons and then go back into hiding (unless they can find another decent coach who knows how to cut corners). Georgia has the ability to be a top 10-15 program EVERY season, which is why, even if the nats manage a win here and there, Georgia will dominate this series (and has since 1964). So if the nerds do pull off a victory next week (and celebrate like they’ve won a national title), you’ll have to excuse them, they know it won’t happen again soon.

TechGrad If indeed you actually are a tech grad, and I’m having a hard time believing that a school that is purportedly such an educational mecca would produce idiots like you and your fellow posters. Let me tell you something, you and everyone of your fellow smack talking tech friends look absolutely silly. You make gross generalizations, you cling to this idea that people who support the dawgs neither attended the university nor are capable of a career in which they do not report to a techie. Its very easy for people like you to spout off these types of stereotypical comments. But the truth is you’re a simpleton. Your team ,more times than not, is mediocre at best, your degree outside the realm of a job specific to engineering means nothing more than a UGA degree, and your school will always be the redheaded stepchild of our state. Of all the fans of all the schools that we encounter I can say that yours are the absolute worse. The most pathetic, the most ridiculed and the least respected. Other schools talk smack, others enter into rivalry games with us and engage us with some pre and post game “chats”. But you guys just don’t seem to get the big picture, and never admit when it stares you in face year in and year out. Auburn fans are classy, they are proud yet humble, FLA fans talk smack and back it up. UT always admits in the end if they were wrong or right. Alabama fans god bless them ,just think that they need the Bear back and they win the NC. Kentucky and Vandy took pride and the highroad in their victory against us. South Carolina; the endlessly optimistic. Even BSU fans who came to Athens last year drinking the orange and blue koolaid actually have a decent sense of reality regarding their team, the football world, and their place in it. But Tech Fans live in this world, a constant state of sad denial. A world in which a perennial average team, who most recently has suffered defeat to the dawgs on a regular basis, continues to talk this uneducated, ignorant and profoundly stupid smack talk. And by the way, as if your credibility wasn’t already in question instantly because of your name techgrad, your comments that Athens is the most disgusting city in the world instantly renders you as both a complete moron and an irrelevant waste of space on this blog. Regardless of what happens next Saturday, I can say honestly that after reading yours and the rest of the smack talking Tech posts, I’ve never been more proud to be a DAWG!

Being such an apparent southern gentleman, didn’t your mom teach you better manners? I guess it’s hard to teach your son things like that from jail. Third, GKP, I could pull many ignorant and asinine (look it up) comments from your post, but my favorite is “but you guys just don’t seem to get the big picture.” Oh, I get the big picture all right - this game means squat, we are headed to Jacksonville on December 2, and the green-eyed monster has never been more alive and well in Athens.

But, my undergrad school didn’t have a football team, so by default I am a Tech fan. And I definitely think Tech has the better team this year. I love how U[sic]GA fans either make up facts or excuses. GT has 3 national championships in the strictest sense (chosen by the prevalent ranking organizations) by the NCAA record books and 4 by the loosest. UGA has ONE by any standard. They have never received even a split championship with support from a lesser, outside ranking organization.
And last timed I checked we won a National Championship 10 years more recently than the Puppies only one for all you crowing about the “modern era”.

To Jaxbuzz Wasn’t me or a Bulldog fan that wrote about Stafford being the “second coming ” ( of Christ ) Also , please check again , was not me who made the joke about the “picking the nose joke !!! If you want to address my comments, stick to them , but don’t use me as saying what was not in MY comments. I’m the first to admit Georgia has not had a good year, but my comments were I’m behind them win or lose, and I stick to that. I also did not say anything about the greatness of Matt Stafford, I do think he has great potential and he is young, I believe he will be better as he plays and learns more. As for this Bulldog fan, since GA is out of it, I’m really pulling for Arkansas and hope they win the SEC Championship. I do think MC Fadden is a great player ! Would love to see the Bulldogs come out with a win over Tech next week, but I’m not predicting that as I said at beginning of my comments. To repeat- if you want to address my comments, feel free to do so, but don’t use someone else’s comments and attribute them to me I’m hoping Battle plays as well against Tech as he did against Auburn, Kregg Lumpkin also. I love it. I have never seen such agitated and hysterical UGA fans! All season I’ve watched your team unravel and it’s been satisfying. However, I’m smart enough to realize that football isn’t the most important thing in the world. To see your fanaticism taken to such extremes is utterly hilarious. With that being said, here are a few notes:
Mayretta_Dawg: “We’ll continue winning SEC Championships by defeating the LSU’s and Arkansas’ of the World.” Yeah, let me know when that happens. I’ll be sure to send you a card.
Spanky: I’ve been to every Tech game at home since my freshman year, and about half of the away ones. I grew up in Tallahassee with season tickets to FSU football. I love Mark Richt and I think he’s a quality guy. He’s just at a school whose fans are so arrogant that he inherently cannot be successful. He will never be good enough for UGA. By the way, when was the last time you guys had a coach that you truly loved? Also, I really hate to stoop to this level, but “this doesn’t change the fact that we’ve beat you 5 years in a row” is horrible grammar. Funny, since you were the one correcting me awhile back.

It took all UGA had to beat Ole Miss and Colorado, but then they lost to Vandy. Where’s this going, they all have one thing in common with Tech that Auburn does not. They all have a QB that can run the ball. That’s why Tech will win. To all UGA fans bashing Reggie Ball, here’s something to ponder. Reggie Ball’s 2003 stats (fresh year): 181-350 completed/attempts 51%, 10 TD, and 11 ints. Your golden boy Stafford: 110-206 completed/attempts 53%, 5 TD, and 12 ints. Looks like we have another Reggie in the making, stats don’t lie. You see UGA fans, Reggie had games in his career where we thought he had turned the corner but never did and I don’t think the Auburn game for Stafford is anything to hank your hat on. To big dave and your comments earlier in the blog. You claimed that you have not been blown out this year. I recall Tenn. hung 37 points on you in the second half alone.

wmmmci your fans are making a lot of noise about UGA losing to Vandy & Kentucky, but I don’t hear many discussing the debacle in Clemson South Carolina.
Try to downplay the Auburn victory all you want, it makes no difference. Anyone with half a brain knows that any time you go on the road and face a team with a Top 10 defense it isn’t going to be easy and if that team comes out as the victor it’s a solid win. Given your 70 year old logic, would you discount your victory at Virginia Tech, because as it turns out they’re not that good of a team? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oh Sweet Jesus!!…Okay! If I make the correction, will you answer my question?..Probably not! My mother could have taught me that, but according to you, she was in jail.
This does not change the fact that we’ve beaten you five years in a row, does it?!
This should be interesting. Let’s hear it, She-nerd!

I’ll defend wmmmci: We will discount every win and loss by both teams up to this point. We all know that none of them matter in a true rivalry game anyway. We will STILL leave Athens with a piece of the hedges.

ronmexico,
Here’s another stat for you: Reggie is 0-3 against UGA. How bout them apples?
Stafford is about to be 1-0 against your beloved maggots.
And wmmmci, what the Hell is a “Quarter Back?”

For my poor friend spanky’s sake, I’ll make him happy and admit that yes, UGA has beatEN us 5 years in a row. It’s OK, every streak has to end sometime.

If GT plays like it did vs. VT, it will not be close either. Look for Stafford to have a Reggie type game, much like his entire season has been.
Who would have thought that after years of making fun of Reggie they would get a Reggie like performance out of their stud QB all year?

Mark, I hope you are right. I think “No way” may be strong…I do think Tech has the talent to win. But, we’ve made some bad teams look good, and some good teams look bad.

The Dawgs will win this game by 3 TDs. Auburn was the turning point for this team to go undefeated for the next 30 games. We let Vandy and Kentucky win to keep them in the SEC vs being considered for the acc when Miami and VT get asked to leave. Gailey cant hold Richt’s jock[even tho he’d like to] and the entire coaching staff will be given a 2 year extension for helping fake those losses. Richt for Coach of the Year—-!!!

Mark, ease up on the hair jell, I think it is soaking into your brain.
For all the GT fans out there, here is some stats for you to look at:
Ball 10 for 24 (78 yards) Choice 32 carries for (119 yards) CJ 3 reps for (13 yards) All this great offense against NC!! Do you really believe that you will come to our house and blow us out? If you guys play like that agains us, our stadium staff will carry your team out in garbage cans.
Gooo Dawgs….Sic em!!!!!!

The Jackets will win the game by 4 TDs. North Carolina was the turning point for a program that has won so many National Championships after WWII. We let Notre Dame and Clemson win to sneak up behind people and shock the world. Richt can’t squeeze Gailey’s bra (even though he’d like to) and the entire staff will be given a 6 year extension for helping turn a program around after a decade of disillusionment and despair. Gailey for Coach of the 21st Century!!!

Oh Mayretta Dog, you silly boy. You think just because your golden boy beat Auburn he is going to beat Tech. Hell Reggie beat Auburn both times he played them, how about them apples! Like I said before, Stafford is riding the Reggie Ball highway and it is a rough highway might I add.

OK the sh-t talking is fun but some people need to know a little about football before they come on here and make fools of themselves I have now heard from 4 UGA fans that tech does not have 4 national titles 1917 1928 1952 1990 so know your facts before you post. Also i dont care if you are tech or uga fan go back up and look at how JONNY HOTROD spelt win he aparently thinks it is spelt when. I didnt go to tech so i can say tech does have some pretty nerdy fans that have no clue when or how to cheer for there team but thank god for the budweiser song they always get into that. So as a non tech grad but big tech fan ill give yall a heads up when it is 4 and 1 and the other team has the ball and the game depends on this play dont sit on your hands make some damn noise. NOV 25 will be a hard hitting game but please dont say oliver will shut out calvin our OC might shuit him out but no defender will shut him out .

I love when the rednecks finally win one against an over-ranked Auburn team. The tobacco spittin and yee-hawin start up again. Fact 1. Tech beat aurburn twice in a row at their place the last three years too. Fact 2. we havent lost to a team the caliber of KFC or Vandersloot this year…..least of all @ Homecoming. Have you hicks no sense of shame?

Tech fans and alumni sleep well knowing that all these UGA posters know that Tech is simply better and more respected both athletically and academically. They know it and it thus elicits these types of responses. They wish that they had the national prominence of Tech, Texas, Michigan and Florida. What is UGA known for? Only one thing….woof.

Will UGA ever admit it lost two additional games during the 40’s?
I doubt it. denial is always the way of the dawg.
