Falcons a work in progress

Terence Moore

There are two ways you can look at the Falcons’ slaughter inside of the Superdome on Monday. You could say nobody was going to beat the obviously inspired Saints that night. After all, they eventually dedicated the game to the people of New Orleans for enduring Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

Or you could say: According to many, this was a Super Bowl atmosphere, and championship teams execute despite the heightened emotion and hype associated with such a big game. In other words, the Saints played like world champions (offense, defense and special teams) while the Falcons played like world chumps (offensive, defense and special teams).

That would mean the Saints are a championship team and the Falcons still have a long ways to go.

Hmmmm.

I think it illustrates how important getting off to a good start in a game is and how demoralizing special teams debacles can be on an entire team. Plus they stopped trying to run with Vick. If the read option isn’t working, then run a sweep with Vick, or a simple draw. Once he gets outside and gains 10-15 yards the defense loosens up. Plus, Crumpler had hands of stone in that game. What’s up with that? And they called a go route deep for Lelie that worked, but they didn’t go deep the rest of the night. Knapp’s play calling is baffling sometimes.

When they interviewed the Saints player who blocked the punt he said they detected “communication problems” in speaking about the Falcons during preparation for the game. If other teams can detect our communication problems I certainly hope we can as well. This game looked a lot like last year when were trying to run plays that took to long to develop. If eight guys are going to rush we need to check off to a slant pass or some other counter measure.

Evolution is a true “work in progress”, but ultimately natural selection takes place, the fittest survive, and the process continues. The Falcons branched off long ago into a dead end kind of like those humanoid-like fossils the Leakeys keep digging up in Africa. Those guys will find the missing link before the Falcons ever do.

Terrence, you can’t say that was a Super Bowl atmosphere…All 70,000 + were cheering for 1 team; a Super Bowl crowd is usually split down the middle. Also, will somebody please tell the Falcons that they should wear the black socks with the red jerseys! We have the ugliest unis in the league.

Oh now there a work in progress! Give me a break Mr. Moore all you do is ride ship. When ever our teams are doing good you ride ship, but when things are bad you jump over board anybody can WIN A HOME GAME WHEN THERE’S 72,000 FANS GOING CRAZY. BEWARE NOV 26, 2007 THERE’S HELL TO PAY!!

Those sceaming fans were not the Hurricane victims. Those people were saved from the 9th ward/Superdome debacle. Next time I hope the Hurricane tears through the burbs and washes those screaming ba%^ards away. Plus I hope the Saints fall back to earth in a hurry. Go Panthers!

Another thing that is a work in progress is Knapp and his ability to adjust to different defenses. As an OC, he needs to be prepared to make adjustments when defenses stop a successful attack. If they take away the run, he has to be ready to attack another area.

What is so hard about handing the ball to Warrick Dunn inside the 1 yard-line. Why run another bootleg right there. The Falcons did not play well, but they could have performed better with execution and making simple adjustments.

I will say this again: The Saints win against the Falcons was due to the field.

See, the Saints are a SLLOOOWWWW team. These guys shouldn’t have hung with the likes of Michael Jenkins or Ashley Lelie. The defense shouldn’t have beaten Mike Vick to the corner. Warrick Dunn didn’e have the footing to make any cuts. It was terrible!

The Superdome’s slow, slippery field plays right into the hands of the Saints. And it was a great story.

But the Saints won’t like Chapter two which is in 11/26.

I am a SAINTS fan. Yes, it could be said that we had the edge due to Katrina sympathy, home field advantage, over-the-top media hype etc. And yes, the Saints probably would have beaten ANY team on Monday, due to the emotional significance of the game. All that being said……We won. We beat the Falcons in GRAND style. Be a good sport, accept it and move on. Heck, the Falcons have been beating us for years and we still love ya’ll on any given Monday…Stop bashing the Katrina victims. Show us how bad ya’ll are in November. But for now WE GOT BRAGGING RIGHTS. THANK YOU

the fix was in. that punt block was so WWF scripted, the NFL should be ashamed of themselves… . . i defend MV7 more than anyone. my previous posts will show that. but games like monday night can drive you crazy. i sometimes can not tell whether he truly is a great player or whether he is merely a hot and cold player. sometimes, i think he is the greatest player in the league and then there are the times where i think how is this guy even in the league? but i love the guy to death and i hope he is the QB of the falcons until he retires. but soemtimes i feel like i am watching the football version of john starks out there. it is like one day he can score 45 points and challenge MJ and then the next game he shoots 2 for 18 and you think that you will never win another game with this guy as your QB. oh well, MV7 keep being MV7. as much as i hate all of the lows you can provide us 2-4 times a season, i love the highs you can provide us the rest of the season much more.

Hey gang, it all boils down to one thing. The Saints were ready for primetime and the Falcons were not. It was only one game, lets fix it and move on, I have all the confidence in the world that Joe D has the ability to fix the special teams short comings altho, I am disappointed that it needs fixing.

How could the field be that bad after American taxpayers were forced to cough up 185 million for that craphole called the Superdome? I think New Orleans should never be rebuilt and their priorities are all wrong as usual. The Saints will not make the playoffs, the Falcons will.

Geez, Y’all; I was brought up to love the Falcons and hate the Saints as much as anyone, but wishing that the city doesn’t get rebuilt and/or a new flood comes through to wash the rest of them away is a bit harsh, don’t you think? How about we just kick their a*******es in our house come November and call it even. As for our offensive woes being due to the players, try again. Knapp comes up with some halfway decent plays during the week, but gets totally stymied during games if they don’t work. I’ve never seen an OC less adaptable on the fly and MV7 is perhaps the most underutilized player in the history of the game. Remember how good he was in his rookie year when Dan Reeves let him do his own thing? That team didn’t have half the talent this one does. When you look to Reeves for an example of creativity, you know Knapp’s a stiff.

Did you not notice the sympathy card being played from the time this game was announced. No team could have or should have one in that environment. It would have just been wrong. If that’s how I feel, could you imagine how some of the falcons felt. There was no GRRrrrrrr factor within any falcon I seened. My hats off to the saints because they are a mucch improved team, and deserve it. GO FALCONS

You hit the nail on the head Mr. Moore,,,,good job. Let’s see what the Falcons do this next game…..it will show just what kind of team we have….

As long as Vick is the quarterback, the Falcons will be inconsistent and mediocre because, as a quarterback, that is exactly what he is and all he ever will be.

The Falcons will have to be very lucky and win on defense if they are to finish over .500 this year. With Vick as quarterback, we have no offense. Note the 12.33 points per game average. Note how we choke in the red, dead is more like it, zone. That is all on Vick. Vick makes me sick.

Know something? If you don’t like a writer then why do you stupid idiots still read what he writes? You come here just to try and put somebody down as if you’re so important that what you say is somehow going to hurt him?

How much are you paying for the blog or your right to put it down? It’s COMMENTARY. If you don’t like or understand the concept then stay way.

The Falcons won 2 years ago with defense. The games they won last year they won with defense. The games they will win this year will be with defense. The Falcon defense played well on Monday night. Well enough for the Falcons to win with a decent, not great, just decent offensive effort. Vick says he does not care about his stats, just wins. How convenient for him. He gives a sub par performance but it is ok as long as the team wins despite his performance. A big deal is being made of the 5 dropped passes. What about the dozen other passes that hit the ground, would they not helped the team more than the 5 that were dropped. Lets balme the offensive line, receivers, play calling, anybody but the Falcons poster boy. How many years does he get to play in the NFL before he is held accountable for his play.

I love the Falcons, but I felt that game was over after U2 finished the tribute, but I stayed up and watch every snap. We are not mature enough as a team to handle that envinorment. It is good practice for the SUPER BOWL though. SEE YA IN FEB.

I work overseas and got up at 2AM to watch my team lose. I think Vick os very over rated and will never lead the falcons to a championship. I Would like to see him lined up as a running back or receiver. He would be better suited to help our team this way. As for the defense, why can’t we make adjustments at half time? The same could be siad for offense as well since we always seem not to be able to adjust to the other teams. Why?
